Clean flash is recommended, since there are a lot of changes.
So I need to install each and every app again is it?

Backup everything using Titanium Backup app. And copy the folder to your PC.. After clean flashing the new room just copy that folder back and install Titanium Backup app in your new ROM. Run the app and restore them back. Make a TWRP (NANDroid) backup just in case anything goes wrong.

A few week ago, I ported my Kindle with Hascode's Ice Cream Sandwich ROM , But now I want to know if I can upgrade to his Jelly Bean ROM without wiping all my data again. Thanks, Aidoboy.

Is there a way to do it with TWRP?

You can backup with TWRP but that does a whole system back up so if you restore from that the ROM you put on will get erased and the old ROM will be back.
What you want is to back up your apps so Titanium Backup is definitely the way to go.

The paid version of Titanium Backup lets you restore an application and its data from a twrp backup. Still, I'd feel safer doing a twrp full backup and having Titanium Backup my apps and data.

Yeah. TWRP is your recovery. And Titanium Backup is just an app that creates backups (and does some other stuff)

Use the free version of Titanium Backup if you haven't bought it yet. It will backup all your apps to a folder. After that just move the folder to your computer and flash the Jellybean ROM. Then just restore the apps. Simple as that.
You could try a dirty flash (flashing without wiping data) but I would still backup since you're going from 4.0 to 4.1
Hey guys, I just did a fresh install of ROM and Kernel, and installed some basic apps.
Does anyone have experience with Titanium Backup ( I got the PRO) on the best way to backup this fresh install.
I'd like to restore to this state whenever a problem occurs.
Thanks for helping me out!!
OH and also, if I was to restore this backup on another ROM that I install, would it restore the ROM no right? sorry if sounds confusing..
:good:

You need to back it up in recovery, not in Titanium.
When you restore, it will return to the exact state of the backup; rom, kernel, messages, everything. Just like it was when you backed it up.

+1 You can backup via recovery all the rom n its stuff.. Titanium backup is just backing n restoring the apps..
You can use titanium backup later when you have installed some apps but to backup the factory settings use recovery

I am new to this rooting world....I rooted my nexus 4 a week back using Nexus root toolkit v1.8.
I then flashed cm11 onto my phone.
I have TWRP recovery on my phone.
I want a full backup of my apps+data+ROM. How's this possible?? Which of these backups allow this..... And how to do these backups.
Also can anyone explain what a kernel is??
Titanium backup can only backup part of your data. Simply because apps can't access everything.
If you want a full backup, you should make a nandroid backup. Which is simply the name for a backup you do through your recovery. (TWRP in your case)
And the explanation of a kernel is really easy to find. So you'll have to use Google for that (I can't really think of a good explanation atm)

Just use the backup toggle in twrp. And no, you can't backup direct to your pc. But afterwards you can copy the backup to your pc. It's good practice to have at least one recent backup there just in case something happens where you'll need it.

First, don't use rom manager. You don't need it
A nandroid is like a copy of the entire os and all your apps and user settings. If your running rom2 and you restore rom1 all your settings of rom 2 will be forgotten and the ones you had in rom 1 when you backed it up will be restored.

Although this is not really accurate, but this is as close as I can get to. Think of a phone like a car. The engine part which is essential to make your car runs is your kernel while the body, doors, sidemirrors and everything else are part of a rom. Kernel is in the deeper layer of the system.
When I install hyperion 8 pre gm and I restore my data via cwm, it always keep rebooting? Thanks for the answer
Is the data you restore made from the same ROM's backup?
Try clearing Dalvik Cache in advanced and then reboot.
My backup is from evo x rom . So it will cause problem?

The backup which you've made will restire Evo-X with all your user data. The backup is causing bootloop probably due to changed kernel or changed CWMR.

Yes, it will. What you can do is restore the whole ROM. Backup whatever you need with Titanium Backup and then restore it on your new ROM.

you cant restore data from another rom - it doesnt work like that
if you want to restore your apps and contacts and so on do the following
fully restore your nandroid backup not just the data so you do a complete restore - make sure you are on the same kernel and using the same cwm to restore the backup to which it was made on
then use titanium backup to backup all your apps
use super backup to backup all your contacts/sms
then you can flash any other rom you like
once you have done that simply restore your backups from titanium backup and super backup
both apps are available in the playstore

1)TWRP Backup includes EVERYTHING. It creates an exact image of your phone. All apps, their data, sms, call logs, just everything, lol.
2)only Zip
