[HELP}Backlight turns off on boot - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hey,
I 've been trying to search for a solution to this for a long time but unfortunately didn't find anything/
Long story short, my moto g4 plus is having issues with its screen backlight, the backlight goes off randomly, the backlight would turn off but the screen could be seen and operated under a bright source of light.
The problem does not exist when the device is in recovery mode or bootloader and the screen stays on all the time but only when the Operating system boots up, the backlight goes off, right after the boot animation and some times before the boot animation too.
I've tried several things to try to fix this but to no avail,
The operating system history is:
(Issue first arrived)Resurrection remix >> Factory Reset >> Ground Zero Rom- Validus (New rom didn't fix the issue) >> Factory reset >> Stock Nougat firmware
I can't figure if its a software or hardware problem, if it was a hardware problem then the backlight shouldnt come on the bootlogo, recovery and bootloader shouldn't have come up but it turns off only when the phone boots.
I would be glad if someone here could help me out with a solution.
Thanks

NEED HELP
Bumpp! Someone help me with this please.

I'd send it to Motorola. You've flashed multiple ROMs and restored Stock N, to no avail.
Don't worry, Motorola will still take your phone even though you're technically out of warranty.

You sure, they'll repair it in?
The bootloader is unlocked and now the phone wouldn't turn on no matter what, it won't even go into the bootloader.

I also encountered similar problems, but i have no idea to solve it , is there any solution ?

It's worth a try. This definitely sounds like a hardware issue, and Motorola should honor the warranty regardless of bootloader status.

I get you, they should honor warranty if the hardware is defective but the employees at Indian service centers aren't helpful at all.
I won't even get recognized on a PC so I guess I'll just drop it off at the service center and hope for the best.
Thanks

Thanks for the tip, but I really think I hard brick my phone, he just vibrate when the battery is on, when I try to turn him on just with the charger I get no response, my computer cannot ever reconize him. An since it's a national model there isn't much support for it on the internet (now I do regret getting him). I opened him to try force the reconization, but I don't find the force preloader mode test point and there is no way I can get a JTAG on Brazil.
TWRP Recovery Mode f*** me really hard this time.
Now if someone could help me finding the colo/kolo/whatever point on my phone I would really appreciated.

Am not much sure if ti is hard bricked since you sayed that it vibrates lets look how much characteristics of a bricked device of which it posseses so as to conmfirm that it is hard bricked.
Soft Brick - Struck inBoot loop
2. Super Brick - Stuck atflashing Factoryfs.IMG in ODIN . Also called as EMMC Bug
3. Hard Brick -Dead / Costly Paper weights
4. Dead Brick - No chargingbattery sign also - Mostly = Hard Brick; But there is a window of possibilityby a USB JIG for SamsungPhones.
5. OTA Brick - Encountereddue to updating OTA on a rooted Stock ROM
6. CM12 Brick - when CM12encountered a /data write error. Worst is ODIN Flashing Fails
7. Pixel Salad: This is a problemof the graphics unit or the screen which fails to display correctly the imageand put instead random colored pixels on some areas of the screen or the wholescreen. It’s hard to even let the other members know what you are facing sinceyour screenshots would be just clean as it would have been. This also requiresa need for hardware checking if reflashing ROM doesn't work.
Soft brick means a temporary problem, which could be fixed. Soft brick usuallyoccurs after installing custom rom(s) or incorrect installation procedure whichinstallation/manipulation of files like permission settings, erasing systemfiles that is not compatible with each phone.
SOFT BRICKED
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS TO MENTION FEW ARE
Phone struck on OEM logo.
Phone struck on a ROM logo "bootanimation"
The phone does not simply power up
or any other you can add up
HARD BRICKED
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS TO MENTION FEW ARE
· No signs that can turn on directly
· The Charging won't work.
· Phone not detected when connected to a PC
· The LED's do not light up immediately
· No Sound / Vibrate
· Your phone completely off (Paper Weight)
Simply put it cannot be repaired using SEUS, FLASHTOOL, ODIN or even PC COMPANION.

Even if it's not hard bricked I had no idea on how bring him into life again, since the only signal of life he gives me is the vibration with the battery on.
It could make my computer detect him it would be much easier.

Ow, one year latter I don't think this will help you anymore, but just in case someone has the same question: I didn't solve the problem, I took it to the Samsung assistence and discover that the motherboard was damaged, they would have to replace it.

Strange display issues

So I have some problems with my OPT.
As soon as the system has completely booted the screen remains dark. Before this (boot animation, recovery, fastboot) the screen works fine.
I already tried all methods from Oneplus Two - Solution for Hard Bricked Device more than once but the problem could not be solved.
Current state: USB debugging disabled, oem unlock disabled. Fastboot and recovery work.
I flashed 2.2.0 full via stock recovery, then I wiped data and cache.
After booting I can see the language selection like the phone comes fresh out of the box but as soon as I try to select the language the screen turns black again. I can go back to language selection by pressing the back softkey and then the power button. When doing this the screen turns on again.
How can I make it work again?
Try flashing the Hydrogen OS.
Tried it but it the issues is still the same apart from the fact that it boots Hydrgen OS instead of OOS.

Is it a New mobile?
I had a remote service with oneplus today. They basically did the same like in the Oneplus Two - Solution for Hard Bricked Device thread and it did not change anything.
So it must be a hardware issue and I will let it be repaiered.

Soft Bricked my Moto X Pure - XT1575

Hi Guys,
I was randomly using my Moto X Pure phone for a while and shut down and when I tried to power it on again it was stuck on the logo screen. I understand that this is a Soft Brick and there's apparently a way to fix this, I'd like someone to help me out with what I should exactly do and what relevant files do I need to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance!

I should preface this with I don't mean any offense.. but I find it quite hard to believe you were just "using my Moto X Pure phone for a while and shut down and when I tried to power it on again it was stuck on the logo screen ". Did your battery die? If that's the case you need to hook it up to a charger for a while (30min-1hr) and then unplug it and then try to turn it on. I don't believe quickcharge works in the base states of the phone so it may take a while to get sufficient charge to actually boot android on the phone.
If your phone "suddenly" doesn't boot then 1(or more than 1 I suppose) of a few thing have happened. #1 your bootloader is corrupted (unlikely) #2 your kernel/boot is corrupted. #3 your system partition is corrupted(or you used root and did something bad, or flashed something not quite right with twrp) or #4 you have a hardware failure. Hopefully it isn't #4.
If you're unrooted then I bet your phones battery died and needs some time on a charger before it will fully boot again... or worse you have an actual hardware problem (hopefully not)
if you are rooted then maybe your kernel or system has been screwed up.. However, It's very unlikely even with root that either of those thing "just happened" though. You would have had to be messing with something in the boot and/or system. If that's the case tell us what you were doing.
If you are rooted though... your bootloader is unlocked. So grab the "factory image" for your phone and boot to the bootloader and completely reflash the phone. You can try not doing the "erase userdata" to keep your installed apps/settings, or just flashing boot and system and seeing if it works... but if it still doesn't work then nuke it all from orbit and start again.
@nxtime posted a link in the previous post with some instructions.
Good luck!

No joke, I was actually on snapchat for a while and it randomly shut down. I initially tried to turn it back on and it was getting stuck on the boot screen. First, I wiped my cache partition through recovery and it didn't work. Then I factory reset my data and same result. I left it on the charger until it was 100% and tried again, still nothing.
I haven't rooted it or tried to at all so I'll have to rule out #3, out of the other three which one could be the most likely?
If it isn't a hardware failure (sorry for being such a huge noob), should I restart bootloader in recovery or unlock my bootloader and reflash the software by downloading factory image?
I talked to motorola and they said they will issue a replacement, but I figured if it's a software problem then I could reflash it..so there's another option but I live outside the U.S it's gonna take while to process it.
Thanks alot dude Really appreciate your help.
You can get a factory image from moto. I would try that.

[HELP] Stuck In Factory Mode - Loop

Hey Guys,
I have a dead phone(kind of). All it displays is
"Have been in Factory Mode. long press power button and Normal boot"
And in very tiny font, there is a line saying
"=>Tool DL Image Load Fail!"
This stays for a few seconds then it turns off, and repeat, again the same this comes up on the screen.
What I have tried:
1) Flash the stock ROM using SP Flash Tools several times
2) Cleaned the power button from the inside a bit, because some thread said there might be a sticky button.
Flashing with SP Flash Tools shows that the flash is successful, but it didn't help.
EDIT: Now it displays something as "eFuse blow: Success". Damn!

Hey, Thank you for replying.
Have tried that method, its just the same thing, but now it is not displaying that tiny line.
Now it goes into the factory mode and shows some options in Chinese. And it stays there till i select something.
The last option, i know is "Reboot To Phone" (Via Google Translate).
When i select that option it goes back into the Factory mode again.

Tried to flash TWRP through SP, it returns an error:
ERROR: S_SECURITY_SECURE_USB_DL_IMAGE_SIGN_HEADER_NOT_FOUND(6045)
MSP ERROR CODE:0x00.
Make sure volume + button is not pressed.
During boot can you boot in to stock recovery,
press POWER BUTTON + VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN until Lenovo logo appear, then continue press VOLUME UP + VOLUME DOWN
Thanks all. I somehow got it to work... and now my phone is all good.
As crazylife told, there was some hardware issue. Apparently, there was a tini-tiny bit of a circuit which, due to water allegedly, got short. I had it cleaned by some local phone shop.( He also claimed that the phone work anyway ,though). After that i flashed the stock rom, and it worked.
And btw, how do i mark the thread solved?

Even the lenovo service center guys raised their hands saying it's an hardware problem and I've to replace the entire PCB to slove the issue. Could you be more specific on how to resolve this issue? if possible could you please let me know at which place you got your mobile fixed? Thanks

I had a problem with the Motherboard due to water getting in, and apparently it caused a short-circuit near the power button module. Actually speaking, I was really dissatisfied with the kind of service the Lenovo guys give to its customers, because first they told me that they will clean, and claimed that the board must be changed. The only thing which needed to be done in my phone was to clean that part of the board with White Petrol(you can ask the local mobile shop guys, they will have it, but just be careful). That solved my problem. And thanks to few threads, i got it working.
P.S: I am from Hyderabad, so had it solved here in a local shop.
Hi, Thanks for your reply. Was able to come out of that situation after 3 days, but had left my mobile with the local service center for 2 days (At the time, when i took my mobile from service center, my mobile was not working, was informed that the mobile is dead) I thought of giving a last try and plugged in the charger on 3rd day it started working . My mobile had a new problem display was broken (from inside) and speakers were not working, when i asked that guy his reply was " how can i know, your mobile was dead, when u brought in hear, my job was to fix it, why will i break it?" though my mobile was back to normal I had to pay a huge price of display and speakers. Hope everyone got to know the take away from my story. Crazy world; lesson learnt.
The same is happening to me!
And my phone keeps vibrating, also I don't know how to select one of those Chinese options, can you please help me sir?

Hey!
My phone had some water damage issue, hence the loop. Opened the phone and cleaned it a bit. Yours might be different problem, try flashing stock firmware, or going into fastboot mode and flashing recovery. Currently don't have this phone so can't help that much.

Oh. Yes my phone too got wet in rain. I went to some shop and they helped me out. But thanks to you I realize that it was repairable and that too without loosing any data. Thanks so much for saving my thousands of ruppees that'd have been wasted to get a new phone. Also yes this model in general is pretty old so I can understand that most of the people don't use it anymore. Again thank you very much for saving all the stuff I had on this phone and the money. ??

Moto G4 Plus didn't boot up after official security update installed itself

For the past few days i had been postponing a 40mb security update that came on my Moto G4 Plus. Finally today i decided to do it and it was downloaded as usual and the phone rebooted and it started installing the update. It was all going fine but as the progression bar filled all the way through the phone black screened and has not yet booted up. When connected to a computer the white notification LED light keeps blinking continuously. Please help.

He bricked his phone and its also blinking. Did you do the same with your phone?
If your phone had been modified in any shape, then that's the result. You need to start by flashing a standard ROM in fastboot (or rdslite if fastboot mode is not working), maybe directly the last one:

The phone was fully functioning before the small official update. The bootloader is unlocked. It's running the official Android N for Moto G4 Plus. There is no custom recovery installed.
Boot issue

My issue is somewhat similar but whenever i connect the phone to a computer and hold the power button or any other combination for few seconds the computer recognizes the device for few seconds and then it disconnects due to unsuccessful boot.
Even a custom logo will trow a stick in the wheel.
Try to enter fast boot first. If that doesn't work, tray the RDSLite path.

I visited the local service center for Lenevov/Motorolla and they have checked the phone and come to a conclusion that the motherboard indeed has malfunctioned hence the battery power and the software isn't working properly. I've been asked to replace the motherboard. Thanks for your help.

It means that your battery is not functioning well. In case if it is not a hardware problem
Try the below step.
Plug in a charger of another phone with current output greater then 1. And then press volume down key and power key simultaneously. If the device woke up in fastboot mode then you are lucky. If this does not work leave the phone in charging for at least one and half hour. Then try the button combination again.
Battery working fine

The guy said the battery and rest of the parts are functioning well and do not need replacement and i don't think using another charger is gonna do anything in this case. Thanks anyway.

Did you downgrade or flash an older stock ROM at any point? Which update was this, and what stock firmware did you previously have on your device?
If you plug your device into your computer, is it still recognised or is it detected as a Qualcomm HS-USB 9008 or similar? If so, you may have hard bricked your device. Try this blankflash in the following link to repair your device bootloader and then flash the latest stock ROM (September 2017 patch) to fully repair your device. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-hardbrick-solved-guide-t3657761 for the blank flash, https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138 for the September 2017 stock ROM.

In my case the phone didn't turn on because the motherboard died for some unknown reason while the update. I did take it to authorized service center and he told me it was the motherboard and would require replacement.
