From Lineage Os 13 to Emui - Huawei Nova/Nova Plus Questions & Answers

Hello everyone !
I'd like to know the way to go back to Emui, 4.1 or 5.0, after a installation of Lineage Os on my device, a CAN-L01.
Can anybody help me and the people that installed Los and want to go back to Emui too ?
Thanks

How Did you installed LineageOs with fastboot or twrp and did you ever flashed nougat firmware?
You can flash stock firmware via fastboot you need to install on your pc firmware finder, huawei extract tool, fastboot and hisuite (for sub drivers).
So - open firmware finder and search fwd for can-l01 download it and extract update.app
- run huawei extract tool, open update.app with it and extract (with right click) boot.img, cust.img, recovery.img, system.img and userdata.img (cust.img and userdata.img are just in Marshmallow for nougat rom you only need to flash boot, recovery and system) in the root of fastboot folder
- run fastboot trough cmd and flash images you have extracted with huawei extract tool.
If you never flashed nougat you can flash marshmallows, in firmware finder marshmallow firmware is somewhere about 1.9gb.
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:05 PM ----------
Or you can try the other method, download fwd with firmware finder, extract update.app, extract with huawei extract tool recovery.img, flash recovery with fastboot, create a new folder in the root of your ad-card and name it dload, copy the update.app in dload folder, open the dialer app and type

Thanks for your fast reply !
I installed Los with TWRP.
In fact, I have tried for a week to install Emui 5.0, I flashed again and again changing my method but the best result I got was a bootloop, so I went back to Los. I did a full backup of my system running onto Emui 4.1 but to perform something like this I had to remove encryption from my /data partition, I did it with the command fastboot erase userdata. However, everytime I was booting the rom it encrypted the /data... So my backup doesn't contain /data and I think it is the reason I havn't been able to go back onto Emui so far.
Could you provide me a link to download a fullota of any Emui 4.1 firmwarefor CAN-L01C432 or C109 ? I already looked for it but I can't find anything.

Can you upload your backup? I was looking for Can-l01 marshmallow backup.

I can upload my backup if you want, but this is a CAN-L01C109, France version.
I'll share the link when I finish downloading the C432B100 and uploading my own.

Need help to create a TWRP update from OTA

I just receveid an OTA update, but the installation stuck because the system is rooted.
I found the update.zip file on my Handy, but it contains some directory (Meta-inf, patch and system) and a big file update.app that I believe contais all the update file.
Is it possible to extract the file from update.app and then create an update that can I launche from TWRP? And if so how could I do it?
Thanks
You can't.
flash back a stock recovery.
After ulocking bootloader and root the OTA didn't work with original recovery that's why I wanto to create an update that works with TWRP
did you try?

Yes I reinstalled the original recovery that you can find in t he root package and I completely unroot the phone using the unroot command in SuperSu.
Then I launch the update but after reboot it stuck at 11%, so I create the dload folder in my handy memory and copied there the content of update.zip and then forced the update. In this case, after reboot, it load until 99% that it reboot, but the installed version is still the 170 and not the 188.
Here worked, from post #393 to # 397 and #400
Stock recovery in root zip maybe too old.
Edit:
Ops perhaps it work on full update packages.

Sorry, forgot link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8l...-lite-android-6-0-marshmallow-t3305550/page40
You need the Huawei Update Extractor Tool, and do the following:
Load the UPDATE.APP file inside the HUET
Extract boot.img, system.img, and cust.img, from UPDATE.APP inside the HUET
Flash the respective files via Fastboot
so if I am on Marshmallow beta, should I flash the recovery that comes with the marshmallow or the recovery of the B052 rom ?

If you have to, flash the B052 recovery... you can always flash the Marshmallow recovery if it doesn't let you update.
I only flashed boot.img, cust.img, and system.img, when I upgraded; didn't flash Marshmallow's recovery at all.
Don't think you can even get OTA updates on the Marshmallow beta anyway (even via a normal bootloader-locked device).
Sorry for my late answer but I was travelling only with a Mac and I couldn't use Huaweu Update extractor.
This are the file that you can find in UpdateApp 188:
00.SHA256rsa.img
01.crc.img
02.curver.img
03.verlist.img
04.efi.img
05.fastboot1.img
06.boot.img
07.recovery.img
08.recovery2.img
11.cache.img
13.dtimage.img
14.dsp.img
15.fastboot.img
16.hifi.img
17.mcuimage.img
18.modemimage.img
19.modemnvm1.img
20.teeos.img
21.trustfirmware.img
And also the following directory:
META-INF
patch
system
Which file should I install, I didn't find a system.img and there are two different recovery
Thanks
You should not install any OTA with TWRP...
Flash back the stock recovery, update, then flash the twrp again, it's way easier and more secure, than doing a flashable zip from an OTA update without knowing what to do with the file within.
The OTA updates usually doesn't contain the SYSTEM.IMG file you are looking for, it contains individual files and scripts to patch up the current system partition to work with the new update.
From the two recoveries you should use the RECOVERY.IMG (the one without the 2 in it).
But again, I do recommend to flash the original recovery(not the one in the update), do the update, and put twrp back.
Where can I find the original recovery from ALE-L21C432B170, so that I can flash the original recovery again?
TIA
I found the original recovery and flashed it then I did a complete unroot and tried again to do the OTA update but it stopped at 11%.
Is there a different way to update?

[METHODS][Getting Back] to STOCK ROM after flashing Custom roms

This is fully a noob helping guide , Am just trying myself to help noobs instead of explaining them each time .
Method 1 :
Make a twrp backup soon after unlocking boot loader .
Am not going to explain how to unlock bootloader and also twrp flashing ,you can search different threads available in the same section .
Soon after unlocking bootloader , Just boot twrp before flashing it .
This can be done this way , Once you unlocked bootloader .
Upon firstboot ,just goto developer options and enable USB debugging and then Open the folder where you had setup minimal fastboot (Mfastboot v2 google for it) . You should have it as you can't unlock bootloader without minimal fastboot .
In any empty space in minimal fastboot exrracted folder , just press shift+right click and select "Open command prompt here" .
Now copy twrp recovery to Mfastboot folder .
Connect your phone to PC.
In command prompt type the below command
adb reboot bootloader
Hit enter ,
Now your phone reboots to bootloader .
Now type this command .
mfastboot.exe boot twrp.img
(Just rename the recovery to twrp.img before flashing )
Now just take a backup and keep it safe somewhere to access when required .
This is easy , but many may loose their twrp backup for some reasons or forgot to take a backup before stepping to custom ROMs , move to Method 2 if your in such group .
Method 2:
Download update.app from official site .
Extract and put dload folder in root of sdcard .
Power off the phone and press vol up+ vol down and power .
It will now fully flash stock ROM with all stock files .
(This method requires stock recovery so keep in mind to flash stock recovery before trying to update as twrp can't perform these tasks )
Method 3:
Its not hard and not easy too but you required to download some tools .
Huawei update extractor tool (google for it)
Once downloaded open the tool and choose the path where you placed update.app in your PC .
Now the tool opens update.app .
Extract system.IMG and boot.IMG from update.app
Put them in the minimal fastboot folder.
Boot your phn to fastboot using command adb reboot bootloader .
Now connecting your phone to PC in bootloader mode , type the below commands
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe reboot
That's it you are on stock ROM.
Method 4:
Flash the stock rom flashable zip posted by devs in your device specific threads and flash it .
Fully for noobs : METHOD 5:
Download the twrp backup posted in device specific threads and put it in sdcard and restore it. Its easy though .
Now your device is ready for flashing official updates "if you get them"[emoji14].

Cache & Cust partitions need wiping and reflashing. Had the same issue when I reverted a Modaco rom back to stock.
Easiest method for L21 users is to flash this stock ROM: http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/377002-r3-custom-rom-starter-template-honor-5x-kiw-l21-b130/ then replace TWRP with the stock recovery image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/repository-honor-5x-file-depot-t3328288
yes, the rom says "custom rom starter template" but it's the stock B130 UK ROM repackaged into a flashable ZIP. Much easier than messing around extracting system images.
---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 PM ----------
I should mention one thing. If you have gone back to stock after a custom ROM then you may find the internal storage partition is the wrong size. Just do a full factory reset from Settings to resolve this.

Yes, if you just flash that rom then you'll be fully restored to stock, but with TWRP still in place. If you flash the stock recovery.img after then this will put the phone completely at stock and you should be able to apply future updates as the rom is completely untouched.

Hi I went from Cm13 to stock with emui 2.0 by restoring my twrp backup before I flashed my first huawei gr5 custom rom.
Now i am trying to restore back to stock rom to fully use OTA updates. Here's what I Did:
1. Restore twrp backup (emui 2.0 not rooted)
2. Flash system img and boot.img via adb using img file from update.app also by using update extractor.
Now i realized that im still in twrp. Do i need to flash recovery img first? Then can i do updates without problem? Or do i need to use the update.app via dload updating too?

[Guide]Flashing stock ROMs of L24 on L21/L22

Once the ota's with security patches have been rolled out for L24 users Huawei Releases the Update.app in no time .
So its easy to flash the otas leaving modem files .
Just follow below guide to Update your phone (L21/L22)to latest rom available for the opponent (L24 lol ).
Download the latest update.app (probably b151 is the latest for now with march security patches).
Put the update.app file to desktop .
Download Huawei update extractor (google for the link)
Now open Huawei update extractor and navigate to open update.app .
you will see a list of files shown .
There just select system.img and boot.img and extract them to the desktop.
Download and extract mfastboot v2.zip to desktop .
Put the extracted system.img and boot.img and move both to mfastboot folder , now in empty space in same mfastboot folder., click shift+right click and click on open command prompt here in the drop down menu .
(before starting install Hi suite first for installing specific drivers)
In the command prompt type these commands after connecting your phone PC when command prompt is opened.
Adb reboot bootloader
Now your phone is at bootloader .
Type this commands
mfastboot.exe flash system system.img
mfastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
mfastboot.exe reboot .
That's it now you are on stock ROM with latest security patch with improved performance as of the update change log[emoji14]
NOTE:
(It may take up to 5 mins to flash the 2.5gb system so have patience) .
Arobase40 said:
That's looks nice, but which profile do we have to use as there's no specific one for the Honor 5x : the default one ?
Then what tool can we use to extract the content of the system.img file for those who have a deodex version such as with Xposed framework ?
I could only find a very old version for ICS/Jelly Bean which does not work with the newer firmwares... I think...
Thanks

Be clear buddy , there is a tool called ext4 extracter to extracting system.img . what do you mean by profile ?
Stock ROM is odexed , you have to deodex yourself .
I will post a guide on deodexing the ROM .
Keep waiting

I know we have to deodex the files ourself...

System.img had a size of 2.4 GB .
So the version you find in forums works but it takes time to load . you can first try Cust.img to open first .if loads faster as it is 300 mb
Arobase40 said:
Well, I guess what you mean is that we're working with the same ext4 unpacker version but we don't have the same behavior... ^^
I can open the cust.img but not the system.img file as it simply crashed after a while (with Win7).
Then we don't have the same size as The Huawei Update Extractor shows me the system.img as a 2.26GB file (dated 2016.03.19). So maybe we don't use the same firmware...
But whatever, the ext4 unpacker can't open any system.img file reliably as it simply crash all the time.
So maybe I'm missing some dependencies ?
As Clsa has done most of the work, we could probably simply use his custom ROM as a base ???

Ofcourse , I just wants to make you cook the ROM by yourself . moreover there were multiple ways extracting the system.img . I will explain it with an in depth tutorial have some patiance I will include it though

Yeah, I'd love to spend more time on cooking itself than wondering where to find the correct tools and why they are not working, if you understand what I mean...

The answer is in the first post here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/stock-kiw-l24-l21-t3312684
The way I get the system.img is I dump it directly from the phone with the instructions here >
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/custom-rom-starter-template-honor-5x-t3328809. this leaves you with the system.therest.tar.gz and system.apps.tar.gz
that you copy to your PC and you can edit / open with 7-zip
it also contains the core files to build the rom - META-INF and inside is the updater-script that you edit with notepad++ to match your needs
Arobase40 said:

If the Huawei Update Extractor is working fine now, I still have problems with the Ext4unpacker which still crash with the system.img file.
Any input on the issue ?
I can't work the same way as with the second link as I can't directly flash a KIW-L24 firmware onto a KIW-L21 to then dump it as it will simply brick my Honor 5x... ^^

Their is no need to unpack the system.img you can flash it directly to your phone with fastboot
or you can use the HUE to create a flashable zip.
Arobase40 said:
Problem is that you can directly flash the latest firmware just because Huawei/Honor is better supporting KIW-L24 than KIW-21 and one part of the Android Security patch is in the boot.img file (the kernel), that we don't have... ^^
We don't even have the latest Kernel source code yet to recreate a correct boot.img...

Is it possible to update to B381 (via OTA update) having a custom recovery?

Hi all,
I currently have a P9 Lite with VNS-L31C432B371 firmware installed.
Recently, I received the VNS-L31C432B381 update via OTA. Unfortunately, when the phone reboots into recovery mode, the update does not even start; instead, I get redirected to the custom recovery (TWRP 3.1.0.-2, system partition read-only) "homescreen".
Is there a way to update to B381 without wiping the entire phone?
Thank you for your time.
The OTA update system uses the EMUI stock recovery so no, there is no way you can update your phone through the updater by using the custom recovery

Another question: is there a way to obtain the stock EMUI recovery and flash it to execute the update?

Yes.
Download your build's update.zip, extract the zip to desktop, you'll then have an update.app (you probably need the full ~2GB build, not OTA, e.g I use B370);
Extract recovery.img from the update.app via HuaweiUpdateExtractor;
boot to bootloader;
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Done.

Thank you!
I succeeded in extracting and installing the recovery from the update.zip. Unfortunately the OTA failed anyway.
At this point, I think I should just wipe the phone and install the complete update from here.

Well I , like you, had a custom recovery. The 3-button method didn't work for me and even after restoring the stock recovery I was unable to install the update.
I unpacked the Update.APP file and flashed through fastboot the BOOT, RECOVERY, VENDOR and SYSTEM .img files and I was succesful but now I have the Model number as generic_a15 and Build number NRD90M test-keys. I can only assume some of the other img files carry the information about my phone. At the moment is stable enough but I can't open the Security menu.
If someone has any idea on how to flash the other img files, please let me know

I only have old oeminfo.img packages, do you know how I can build one? There is a PRODUCT.img but it is considerably bigger than the oeminfo package that I have seen.
I flashed all the old B370 files, update.zip and update...hw_eu.zip, with DC Phoneix (a non free tool but saved me from.a bricked phone). After that, I flashed the new package and got the Security settings and Developer Options to work again.

Mate 8 not working properly after erase data from TWRP

hi guys, hopefully someone can help me with my situation. I try to explain as best i can.
My Device: huawei nxt-L29
Build number : nxt-L29c636b585
( I install right firmware for my phone )
1. i follow this guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-root-install-t3301371 ) to Unlock Bootloader, Root, Install TWRP & Decrypt.
All working perfectly until last step "Decrypt",
Instead of format data - type yes... I do my mistake by click Advance Wipe and click Erase Data. And the phone stuck on loop bootloader.
2. I try to flash stock recovery for nougat and flash UPDATE.APP on EMUi recovery but failed.
Then I follow this guide for huawei p8 because i cannot find any related entry similar with my situation in Mate 8 forum ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p8/how-to/guide-how-to-unbrick-huawei-p8-failed-t3260704). And use Huawei Extractor to extract boot.img, system.img and recovery.img and flash it in fastboot mode.
All work perfectly and my phone restart like normal.
3. The problem after my phone unable to lock gps correctly (cannot use all because always changing position),cannot turn on bluetooth and unable to change ringtone/notification, and maybe a few more problem. i think its because I didnt flash all file in UPDATE.APP.
4. The question is how do i flash UPDATE.APP and get it fully work, because if i flash on EMUI recovery it always failed on 1-5%? Just for info in Update.app, there is 2 recovery image which is recovery.img and recovery2.img, do i need to flash both to try flash on EMUI again?
Hope you guys understand me,i not english speaker...Thanks,
any question just ask below.
Opening one topic will suffice :good:
The mate 8 actually has 2 update packages, the undate.zip and the update_full_hw_eu.zip, both need to be flashed, can be done via twrp, I suspect you are also missing settings like update and apps like file manager, I've done it the way you have and ended up with that problem
Download and install data zip
