I got myself a Moto G5 4gb/32 GB variant just yesterday from FLIPKART. As I opened the box and inspected the item, I discovered that there was a line/scratch on the camera lens of the device (see attached pic for reference). I then proceeded to set up the phone and check the picture and video quality of the phone whether it was fine or not and to my surprise, it turned out to be working okay. I have compared my handset with another Moto G5 Plus handset and that piece clearly did not have this line/stratch problem but the camera quality of that set was the same as mine.

Should I be concerned about this little problem and issue a replacement request on FLIPKART? Or just leave it be?
Here are some sample photos I've taken using the camera of this phone:

Replace it. As camera lens also do play an important role in taking pictures.

Hi. Just wanted to cross verify whether the scratch is on the lens assembly itself, or on the safety glass, and on what place exactly.. Asking this as I also have a very very slight mark near the two small sensors located on the right of the lens. Tried to get from your picture but didn't quite catch that, sorry.. If possible can you encircle the scratch in the picture?

Hi XDA,
I just bought my Xperia Z2 yesterday and i went to the batch numbers topic and checked for Issues reported by people there. Fortunatelly i dinot have any issues but today i noticed the front camera quality was very poor. There is a Yellowish reddish tint that appears on the front camera however the back cover is fine. The picture is like thousand of small dots flicker on the screen and if i keep it very close to my face then i can notice it. If I click the Picture the picture seems to be completely fine.
Can any one of you please check and let me know if you are also facing this kind of Issue?

I took it to the service center and they said it a problem. He asked me to come tomorrow and they would update the firmware to a latest build and hopefully issue would be resolved otherwise they would replace it for me
ok so i got the same issue but i dont know if it is firmware of the camera problem , but the pic taken out is completely fine

Yes the finished picture is fine but while taking the picture it has a lot of noise. I have checked it with service center guys and they have called me tomorrow to update my firmware to see if issue is resolved otherwise they would replace the phone. However, talking to few people here in XDA it seems that noise issue is there with Sony camera and if the finished picture is fine it is not much of an Issue. So, I am thinking to get the software updated to latest build and then dont take replacement and keep using it.
What is the batch number of your phone ? Mine is 14w19

If the saved picture comes out fine, how is this even an issue?

Of course it's an issue. It alters and creates an inaccurate preview. Why should it be flawed if the front is fine?

If you grab Front Camera Video it is also an issue because it uses the same Live-View as what you see on the screen.

Yes I agree. The video has hell lot of noise. But the picture comes out clear. I took the phone to service center and they reflashed the firmware and issue was still there. He told me he can replace the phone for me, but i refused as this is only the problem and i dont want to get a newphone which is of a different batch and has hell lot of other Issues.
Yeah, I've had this problem since I got the phone. I made a thread a couple weeks ago about it being an issue. I'm not updated to the current software, but I didn't think it would help, lol.
And it is very important to me as I'm a SnapChat whore in every meaning of the word, and, for some reason, the final image when taken in SnapChat is NOT made better as if it were taken with the Camera app.
I also have a 14w19, and I see what you mean. I don't mind so much as I don't use the front camera a whole lot (only with SnapChat, and the video quality isn't always the nest there anyway). I'm not bothered.
I'm bothered that for $700, the hardware and perhaps software in this case is so obviously flawed. I mean they really advertised the hell out of their camera prowess. But the front camera looks like the whole screen is dipped in sand.
It is clearly a software issue and I think it dosnt matter what batch you have, mine is 14W18 and in with really low light I have this issue but if there is some light left there is no problem at all and also the back camera did not have any kind of this issue in my case.
I'm sure that it's a software issue. Why else would the picture be correct after actually taking it with the built-in Camera app?

It's hard to tell what you mean exactly here. Are you saying the display on the screen has small dots on it or the picture it takes is not good.
is this something that comes across in a video chat or not as in the other person sees the same as well.
Can you post a screen shot so we understand better what you mean ?

Actually i wont be able to post a screenshot of it. I am talking about the front camera, when you start it the preview window that we see it is full of noise and it seems as if it has sand all over it. But the final picture is fine.

I happened to click the picture from another phone. Just see the Noise. Even if i am under light then also the noise is there but is very minimal in case if I am in complete Darkness the screen is filled with Noise.

I have this too (and I suspect everyone does)
The front camera is quite simply not very good. The reason the captured image comes out slightly differently is most probably because it's a longer exposure (than realtime preview) and there's also some noise reduction in the post processing)
Hello all. I recently purchased an LG G2 VS980 second hand. I've got a question about the camera. I'm wondering if the camera in the unit I have is defective, or if that's just the way it is. It seems that any photo's I try and take with unnatural light, involve massive over exposure of that light if it's nearby and loss of detail. Lowering the exposure and iso setting does not compensate enough for this problem, either does trying HDR mode. I have enclosed a photo taken with a Nexus 5 which properly handles a particular scenario throne at it, as well as the same shot taken with the LG G2. There's a big difference between the two, and this is not what I was expecting given everything I've seen in terms of the G2's photographic capabilities. What are your thoughts? I have tried taking photo's on the G2 with the stock camera as well as Google's camera, but I could come nowhere close to the nexus 5 in terms of detail.

Solved, and nearly unbelievable to me. This problem seems to have occurred because the camera lens cover had "scratches" on it that were hard to see. Actually they were not scratches, but just a crappy oleophobic coating applied to the lens cover by LG that gave the appearance of scratches. To fix this, I disassembled the phone and removed the plastic cover that housed the camera lens cover. I then followed the instructions in another thread and used toothpaste and q-tips to clean the it. The difference in photo quality is astounding and now the photos of my lamps match or surpass what I was getting from the Nexus 5. It was very time consuming though to get it cleaned using the toothpaste method. Instructions for anyone else having this issue can be found in the following thread. I suggest though, if you need to do the cleaning, you also remove the plastic housing containing the lens cover from the phone as shown in this youtube video so that you don't accidentally get water or anything else dripping into the inside of the actual phone. I actually also used some distilled vinegar for cleaning and that may have worked better than the toothpaste.
Hi everyone, this is my first post in the xda-developers forum!
I dropped my S4 yesterday and a few hours later when I wanted to take a picture with the camera I noticed this horizontal line that goes across the screen (it even casts a shadow underneath the line). At first I thought I might've cracked the camera lens but I shined the camera under a light at all different angles and I can't see any crack. Can someonw help me on this so that I can determine whether I just need to clean the sensor or buy a complete camera replacement?
Try a different camera app. If it's the same then it might be the camera.
That doesn't look like a crack though. Even so, it still might be something case by the impact.

Bought lg g6 3 months ago, AT that time camera was very good, clicked decent focused pics, but now the camera glass got scratched a lot, the images and videos gets very blurred and was not able to focus far objects, all the time the focus was locked to macro mode, Then i replaced the back camera glass with a new OEM glass, even after that no changes seen, still blurred pics and videos, Focus locked to macro, Manual focus on manual mode doenst works most of the time , focus is locked, attaching image sample of new glass replaced phone,, image set to 13 megapixel . Tried reset , clearing data and cache of camera, Updated to latest sw
It will be from a spec of broken glass in the camera module.
Fixed many phones with same issue.
Remove the glass cover and use can air or carefully shake/tap phone on table to release any lodged fragments of glass.
It's stopping the image stabilizer from moving correctly.

visited service center and they denied to repair it and said phone's camera is opened by you. Can any one tell me where it get it replaced in Chandigarh , INDIA ?
You must done a bad job for them to see you changed it!
I'm telling you it's trapped glass or other small obstructions in the camera module.
Or you've damaged the actual lens on the camera

Was this deliberate or accidentally smashed it? I'm having the same problem you had with your g6.
Hello there everyone. Unfortunately, I've recently noticed an odd spec or bubble in the topmost camera of my Oneplus 8 Pro. It seems to be under and to the side of the lens and does not affect image quality. Still, I am considering whether it is worth returning the phone for a replacement. Everything else about the unit is perfect so I may just accept this rather than deal with replacements.
What do you guys think? Please take a look at the attached image below. It is the topmost camera in the center.
Thanks!
