Not Daydream capable. I have the device and the headset and it doesn't work.
It will work with some generic VR headsets out there, but it's not Daydream compatible due to the LCD display. OLED isn't specifically required for Daydream, but the low latency and low persistence requirements essentially make OLED a requirement at this point.
Ive read on another post before that someone was able to use their G6 with a Gear VR using a USB C adaptor. They said it worked just fine. Ive been tempted to buy a Gear VR and try it.
I think someone will make it Daydream compatible sooner or later by root+mod.
Once root is avail, there is this which may work to enable daydream.

I have a oculus rift cv1 and tried connecting it with usb c adapter and it seems the g6 does not suppprt slimport or Mel, only wireless stream to stream phone display.

Please...., MHL doesn't work in G2, this was tested many times..., only Slim Port
thank you for help
but how i know the slimport model will work with G2 or any model will work
Slim Port work with G2, G3 (and more high-end LG phones - for all of these models try search in google) and Nexus series smartphones and tablets by LG. This is all about I know, probably more devices from other manufactures uses Slim Port as hdmi output but you must search in google. Of course without samsung, their phones uses only MHL.

LG Optimus G / Nexus 4 used MHL. Have an MHL adapter at home that I used multiple times with my Optimus G and the wife's Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Was hoping to use it with the G2 ... but alas.
LG G2 / Nexus 5 uses SlimPort. Completely different adapter required.
This is stupid with different standards(money, money, money), something like many charging connectors, before microUSB standard, but Slim Port is little better than MHL, on Youtube is comparison

why bother with cables?
Why bother with Slimport or MHL cables. It has miracast. For around 30 bucks you get yourself a miracast dongles (ezcast most likely) and you stream everything you want from phone to TV. No hassle with cables.

Try to stream 1080p/4k videos or high res games you will need some serious ac based wifi equipement for that...

Practically I agree with you, even if in theory Miracast protocol set standards up to 1080p streaming, and considering that miracast is a sort of wifi on direct between those two enabled miracast devices, should stream as the standard says. In theory... Practically even between two miracast devices of the same manufacturer (LG phone and LG smart tv) can be some problems of incompatibility and "dialogue". But still, when is the last time you saw a hi res game worth to play on big screen? Or... to stream a 4k video to a TV you must have that 4K TV.
As everyone said, you need slimport adapter. I bought this one and it works without problems: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271571917451?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I recently bought a nice google cardboard cross oculus style chinese knock off. The lenses and fit are quite good for the low price point. Far better than the comical cardboard diy.
The only problem with buying this instead of the gear vr (not available locally) is that there is no content. So probably a dumb questiom but How hard would it be to rip the microsd card content from the grar vr and port it to cardboard? I know theres only a few apps and its almost all demos.. as i already have a note 4, it seems as if it shouldnt be too difficult to get some of these vr experiences working even if its with more limited sensors.
Possible? Pipe dream?
Your best bet is to ask twistedumbrella as he has the vr and is developing for it
You can get the Gear VR installer here but the problem is that the software is trying to detect a Gear VR and won't do much after installation.
So as the title stated, I cant use my Galaxy A5 with MicroUSB to HDMI so I can display my phone to my monitor / TV.
I have read everywhere that Galaxy A5 can't use this feature. But is there I can do to enable it? is it disabled at the kernel? will I can use it if I root it and change the kernel?
Thanks before..
+1!!!
as far as i know, the A5 doesn't have hdmi capabilities.
you have screen cast lol, just buy miracast for tv, ts like 20€ from ebay and it works
I have checked the android.hardware.sensor.hifi_sensors support on the Galaxy S7 with the latest official Android 7 beta and it's there:
FeatureInfo{10031f9 android.hardware.sensor.hifi_sensors v=0 fl=0x0}
So it looks like as the hardware could support Daydream but it is also possible that this flag is reported incorrectly due to the beta status of Android 7.
I have already installed the Daydream APKs and the Google VR services from apkmirror and the app crashes when I try to start the VR mode.
Code:
final PackageManager packageManager = this.getPackageManager();
final FeatureInfo[] featuresList = packageManager.getSystemAvailableFeatures();
for(FeatureInfo featureInfo: featuresList){
if(featureInfo.name != null && featureInfo.name.equals("android.hardware.sensor.hifi_sensors"));
{
Log.d(this.getClass().getSimpleName(),featureInfo.toString());
}
}
YouTube Vr reports incompatible device:
Could somebody remove this check? In the background it looks like it is working.

GearVR has extra sensors on the visor, Daydream uses only the sensors available on the phone.
I got it working after modifiying the /system/etc/permissions/handheld_core_hardware.xml as stated in this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/5hno6u/got_daydream_to_work_on_my_5x_might_work_on_other/
Some stuff is working, but the AAA+ games like Need for Speed either get stuck at the loading screen or immediately crash.
I just need Bluetooth joypad to work. Not got another phone to use as controller.

I was surprisingly underwhelmed by the daydream view. It performs in ever metric right between the cardboard and the Gear VR.
The daydream drifts constantly the gear VR doesn't at all.
The daydream's FOV is a strict right angle while the Gear VR is 96 - 100°depending on the phone.
The daydream can't keep up with rapid head turns and you notice obvious black edges creeping inward toward your turn, the gear VR has flawless time warping no matter how rapidly you turn back and forth. I suspect the design of the daydream i.e. It's missing 3rd strap is meant to discourage you from turning your head too fast lest it fly off.
The day dream has lower resolution on the regular pixel but the same resolution with more SDE on the XL.
There is a ton of light bleed under the daydream view unit itself whereas the Gear VR is completely flush against your face.
The daydream doesn't have any adjustable lenses so if it doesn't work for you there's nothing you can do. The gear be has fully adjustable lenses and is designed to fit glasses. With the lenses being adjustable however you don't even need your glasses.
Although the daydream api support 3D binaural sound the pixel can't handle it and just collapses everything to stereo. Things are either to your sides or sound like they're in front of you even while behind you. There's no impression of anything above or below. Distant objects are played at a lower volume, closet at a high volume. On the Gear VR, it uses Samsung pro audio to create a completely convincing 3 dimensional sound field where you can not only hear all around you, where things behind you actually sound like they are, but above and below you too. It also processes doppler effect filtering so that objects far from you sound farther and not just softer.
The pixel also gets skin blistering hot after 30 minutes and will overheat not much longer after that. The Gear VR doesn't get phones nearly as hot and especially with the S7 with its vapor cooling system you can play through an entire charge and it'll only get a little above room temperature.
The daydream also crashes or fails to load at all pretty often as you can see from reviews. In my test the pixel would randomly reboot between changing titles at least once every 4 or times.
On the plus side the controller is fun and does add more possibilities. But unfortunately the controller and the headset both drift all the time and often in opposite directions. You have to press and hold the home button to re-center it a lot more often than is comfortable. If it wasn't for the controller the daydream would have no chance at all. It feels much more like a tech demo and isn't anywhere nearly as refined as the gear vr.
The gear VR also annihilates it in quality and quantity in terms of content.
It may seem like I'm being really hard on the daydream but for something as pricey as the gear vr it's really disappointing and annoying. If you try it you'll see exactly what I mean.
If I was coming from cardboard I'd be impressed but it's practically unplayable coming from the gear vr.
If anything it just demonstrates what a marvel of a piece of tech the gear vr really is, while even being 3 years older and performing on older hardware.
Hey guys,
I could not find any suitable product on amazon, because this phone is simply to long
Nevertheless, I am here to ask, whether someone of you owns or knows a fitting VR Headset / Glasses for the OP8Pro.
Cheers.
I have the Oculus for my VR needs but I'm pretty sure the newest Samsung devices are about the same length as the OnePlus 8 pro, might help with searching for a VR headset to fit the 8pro. If it fits the ultra it'll fit the pro.
Check Amazon Q+A section for headsets, ask the question to see if anyone knows.
