Hi everyone. Do you recommend to pass from an LG G4 to a Nexus 6P? Do you think that 6P is still a good smartphone in 2017? Thanks in advance.

Personally I would hold off. Seems there has been some quality issues with the Nexus 6p. Have a look at this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/boot-loop-death-nexus-6p-t3533528
Even the Nexus 5x has a bootloop of death issue. I'm a die-hard Nexus fan and currently I'm on a Nexus 6 and was thinking of continuing to the Nexus 6p but after reading all these quality issues and Huawei giving bad support, I'm going to hold of. Many of those who can't afford or who can't justify buying the Pixel devices are moving to OnePlus 3/3T.

That option exist only if you are not Verizon. The OnePLus is not Verizon compatible..
That said, I don't have any issues with my 6P.

I don't have any problems with my 6P either but that doesn't change the fact that there are build quality issues with this phone and that an alarmingly high number of people seem to have serious issues with the 6P. If you buy one of these without warranty you are taking a serious chance. I personally wouldn't buy a 6P at this point. Too many potential issues and poor support from both Google and Huawei.

I do not know what carrier the OP has but even if OnePlus is not an option, I wouldn't jump the gun on the Nexus 6p. The device is no doubt a great device but as @jhs39 says, there is also no doubt that it has quality issues. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted that device but buying it now when warranty will be limited is a huge risk. Even with warranty it feels not good to know the phone is a ticking time bomb that might stop working when you least expect it. I'm glad it works for you of course but I wouldn't recommend anyone to get it in these day and age. From the stories I've read from the link I shared it seems like Google is pointing on Huawei because it's a hardware defect. Huawei is giving their customers the cold shoulder and the RMA process has been a nightmare. Just that feels disturbing. So that's the reason why I can't find myself choosing the 6p. The 5x is also a ticking time bomb. Really sad that both Huawei and LG messed up on the last Nexus devices.

Granted I wouldn't buy one without a warranty.
I just did a warranty claim with my Google Warranty. No isses and I had a replacement in 2 days.
Once the current Google warranty gest close to expirations, I'm going to get a SquareTrade plan.
On any modern phone, it's crazy not to have some kind of extended/warranty and damage replacement plan.

Hello everyone,
I have been aiming for the OnePlus Two for a while now but since I didn't get an invite and the 6P got announced I thought I'd have that one. Until today that I have received a OPT invite. Now please help me pick which is better, do I get the OPT right now or do I let the invite expire and wait for the 6P?
I've got less than 23 hours to use the invite please help me pick quick.
Thank veeeeeeery much
From a developer stand-point:
Both phones are development phones. Both the Nexus 6P and OP2 are going to have support for almost every rom that exists. Here's the difference, the 6P will have longer support for every rom (As in for years). On the other hand, the OP2 will loose rom support of a fraction of the roms it has right now after CM 13/6.0 source is out. Also Nexus devices are home to new non-ROM/Kernel projects. These include multirom (dual boot), WuguFresh toolkit, etc.
Also Google will support the device for much longer than OP will ever support the Two.
My vote: 6P

Yes, you're right about that but the one thing that is scaring me off the 6P is that it might have problems when it launches and there are no in-depth reviews yet of it

This is a valid concern, but there's nothing you can do about it at the moment except pick your priorities.
There is a method you can use that can help you decide...since all of the facts known at present are the only ones with which you can work. Example: you'll likely not find an in depth review until the actual units have begun shipping...many companies have pre-release devices, but likely agreed to not complete a full review in exchange for physically having the device (ie, away from Google) prior to launch.
Let me know and I'll walk you through it. It's a pen & paper version of conjoint analysis. It'll only take a few minutes, and you'll have your answer.

I've watched every single hands-on video about the device on the launch event in an effort to gather as much possible information about it but I'm afraid it might not live up to the hype. I hear for example all reviewers say it's got one of the best panels, an awesome camera.... but those people only had a short time to assert those things.

No, but I know of no one who has the device and can rightly use their experience with the device to assist you without breaking the nondisclosure agreement they likely had to sign.
I can help you with your decision using only the facts available as of this writing.
Would you like such assistance or not?

I feel Google will be a lot better to rectify defects of a 6p before op would. They were terrible with customer support and I think still are. You have a great backing with Google.
If you got the $$, the Nexus 6P is a no brainer.

If you aren't put off by the price difference then 6p all the way. I have the oneplus one (came from nexus 5) and since lollipop its became a rather poor device, mobile data will occasionally be unavailable once switching from WiFi or to a new cell tower and it requires a reboot to fix (this is an OPO specific issue). Still not fixed and it took them a year to implement a reasonable software fix for the flawed touch screen.
Updates were extremely late and never provided by deadlines they gave us and the hardware support is terrible where they generally seem to class every RMA as water damage and ask for money to repair a faulty device.
Gave up with oneplus, too many promises and they don't deliver on it. Oxygen OS is still alpha state (in my opinion), the hardware of the oneplus two is still lacking as again they said the camera would be awesome but its not.. They cut NFC which is actually used by a fair few people and that includes me so its an immediate no from me even excluding all the previous crap.
My nexus 5 is still fast day to day than my OPO, says it all really and I can't wait to get back to the nexus line. Was going to get the 5x but its too similar to the original 5 so I thought screw it I'll get the 6p as its pretty much the same size as the OPO but thinner and has stereo speakers and AMOLED display!
Fyi you will get a biased response here but my honest opinion is if the price is acceptable to you and the size is then the 6p is the vastly superior choice.
Enjoy either one

Hey guys, how you all doing?
Just wanted to know your opinion. Currently I am a phoneless guy since my Nexus 5 died a few days ago and since I gave up on the ZTE Axon 7 due to the lack of support from ZTE to the mod community. I am really, really, really eager to finally see what Google is up with the new Pixel phones. Some rumors say that it will be a tough phone to root and mod due to the two partitions for seamless updates and the startup check, etc, etc. That is worrying me a bit. But, since I am a bit desperate to get a new phone, the wait is just cruel, unbearable, excruciating! Yesterday I came across the Nexus 6P, the 128GB version to be more specific, at Amazon. Taking the Nexus 5 as reference, I know that I can rely on the support from the mod community to always have new and updated stuff, since we are talking of a phone that was launched just one year ago. SO, what would you do? Buy a consolidated phone that is the Nexus 6P with tons and tons of mods available, or wait for the Pixel XL?
Sorry for the long text!
Regards!
i would wait for the pixel xl especially now as the release draws closer. the nexus 6p is no doubt the best nexus ever made IMO but the pixel may very well be better. about modding, android has went through many changes that appeared as the death of the developer community but the ever so skillful and dedicated devs here at XDA always seem to find a loophole. it may take time, but eventually, root will be achieved!

Huh?
Root on a Pixel or Nexus device?
Unlock the bootloader and flash?
That is the one advantage that has always existed on Google/Nexus devices.
If the bootloader is unlockable, then root is pedestrian at best.
Here is mY 2 cents. I literally know nothing about the new pixel phone as I have no interest in getting it. The only thing I do know that I could suggest is number one HTC is a dying company and I believe that's who makes the phone. It seems to be a love-hate relationship depending on who you talk to but in my opinion they make some of the worst phones available. Number 2 the pixel phone is going to be close to $700 where as the 6p is now selling for under three hundred depending on where you go which is a gigantic difference in price. Again I don't know the specs the ins and the outs of the new pixel phone however a $400 price difference and the name HTC would lead me to say go with the 6p. Remember how well the last HTC Nexus device when? Probably not cuz it was basically a pos that nobody gave a damn about

Well I know I'm loving 6p big time after finally being able to get one a couple of weeks ago. It's the gold 64gb one and wow, what a phone that will be hard to beat. I'm working twelves and the phone makes it through the whole shift with ghostpepper profile applied. Anyway like previous post what a deal and for the price of pixel, what a steal. Good luck and thank you.

I just got a €390 128GB Nexus 6P, new. On ebay from a guy who bought it and had a problem. While he waited for the substitution from Google he bought a different phone and wanted to cash back as soon as possible. I was suspicious but the phone arrived in the box, completely sealed and everything was legit. Sometimes you get lucky (and considering I needed it to substitute my Note 3 who got destroyed in a fall, Spigen case and tempered glass protector notwithstanding... I sort of deserved it).
Pixel XL doesn't convince me. Smaller screen first of all. With screens it's relatively easy to go bigger... but going smaller? Not for me.

Yes, some times you get lucky. I didn't! I started asking questions and out of the blue I received an email from Amazon telling me that the guy canceled the the sell because he didn't have the phone . So I promptly bought a 64GB that is fullfiled by amazon, of course.
Got mine less than a month ago. 390 Euros .. the 64Gb version all bran new.
I don't think it's worth paying 700$ for the Pixel XL for the 32Gb version. Didn't see anything worth wasting money on. No major hardware changes that will make that a good deal.
Is the Nexus 6P bootlooping as much as the Nexus 5X? Is it strictly a software or hardware problem with the Nexus 6P? I need to look for a new phone and the only choice I have is a Nexus 6P but I'm too afraid of it bootlooping like my Nexus 5X.

To be honest if you look through the help threads you will see the amount of phones getting hit by this bootloop bug, here and on Reddit there are numerous devices. Now there are some that do not have those bug but it's a chance that it can happen. I fell victim to this bootloop fiasco and was never able to recover from it no matter what I tried, and I tried everything there is. I wound up doing an RMA as I was still under warranty.
Honestly I would only buy the 6P if it comes with a warranty or something. I've been blessed with mine never experienced any of the boot looping that a lot have.
But I been thinking of getting the OP3T as I'm having the New Phone Itch. But it's not much of an upgrade IMO. So I may wait for the OP4 then upgrade.
Good luck on your hunt

Hi everyone,
I currently own a Galaxy S6 but since the custom development is poor and the battery life isn't what I desire, I'm looking for an upgrade. My eyes fell on the 6P, but also the new midrange of Motorola, the G5 Plus.
The two things I mentioned are urgent in my search for a new smartphone.
I hope someone can help a fellow flashaholic out!
I don't recommend a 6P nowadays. It's a great phone, but it has the 810 bootloop issue and the although I think the battery is great, it can fail at any moment and you'll have to replace it - these two behaviors are well documented here.
I'd suggest a Pixel or (like me) wait for the Pixel 2, it's around the corner.
And if you can recommend me any phone around €250, what would you recommend right now? Because that's the price range I'm looking in.
Moto Z play or play 2. Have great battery life, development should be good too because vanilla Android on moto devices.

Same recommendation as the guy above, don't get a Nexus 6p. I've got two of them and both suffer from a range of issues, including the early shutdown problem and the bootloop issue (one of them). You're better off taking your money somewhere else

So if I get to choose between a Nexus 6P, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X and an iPhone 6 64GB. Which one would be worth the money considering my points of battery life and development?
IPhone and 6P would both be at a price of €250 and the Xiaomi €170.

Nope, and at this point it probably isn't worth your time. While there still have been security updates, Google's commitment to provide any updates ended before Christmas, so I suspect we're pretty close to EOL on this. I just went back to my 6p after an unfortunate 8 months with an Xperia ZX Premium, so now I'm hoping I can suck a few months out of it while I ponder my next device.

I just went back to my 6p after an unfortunate 8 months with an Xperia ZX Premium, so now I'm hoping I can suck a few months out of it while I ponder my next device.

That really sucks. I never gonna go buy Google Hardware again, it's not the first time they let old users down (multiple new launchers and minor tweaks never came down to Nexus or older Pixel) even with the promised of latest software always. Then N6P was QC screwed everywhere.
Going to a OnePlus now and being very sad of having a $500 paper weight on the drawer
Thanks for the answer and best of luck with your new device

Well, to be fair, the biggest issue with the 6p device was the battery failures and early on, Google was swapping devices, but the service sucked in getting Huawei to do anything after that. However, yes, the software lifecycle on older Nexus devices is weak. I suspect the main reason is that Google has moved to a 'more' closed ecosystem with the Pixel line. Nexus devices were always supposed to be more open, easy to hack and reasonably priced. The Pixel strategy is to more directly compete with the Apple iPhone model. Premium everything. Whether they'll support those longer? Who knows.
And, my new device is already toast but thanks. I'd buy a Pixel way before I'd buy another Sony Xperia. They allow unlocked bootloaders and claim to support development, but the minute you unlock the BL it renders the camera unusable. Devs did develop a patch, but there was virtually no development for the device. I've already had 6 hardware feature failures in 8 months of use and I bought it as an unlocked int'l version that would have to be shipped overseas. I doubt they'd do anything because it's been rooted and flashed, so I'm just leaving.
I'm back to the 6p for a while. So far they are still providing security updates, but since no Nexus devices are part of the Android P developer preview, you can bet there will be no Android 9 for it, so I suspect that's when the security updates will stop too.
Hi,
Do you have tried remove de back case and after that the battery?
