Alright, so I don't know what happened, my axon 7 got bricked for no reason at all
I unlocked the bootloader using Axon7Toolkit v1.1.0 method here > https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/tool-axon7toolkit-t3573108 it got unlocked and whenever I boot I get bootloader verifying, the screen that says "software corruption failed, please lock the bootloader"
I asked Bkores about it in zte community he said it was all normal
everything was good until I decided to flash twrp 3.1.0.0 official image using fastboot flash recovery command on bootloader, twrp was flashed successfully everything was fine till that moment
I reboot to twrp, twrp's working fine, i reboot the device using twrp, the bootloader verifying screen appears, I wait 5 seconds...NOTHING! No bootanimation, nothing just stuck on the bootloader verifying screen, can't use the volume buttons to navigate (unless I use it before the 5 sec. period to reboot to recovery, fastboot, etc)
I reboot to twrp, try to perform factory reset I see "can't mount /data device or resource is busy"
since I am very familiar with this error (due to my older experience with older devices ) I thought this was "lulzworthy" and I only needed to wipe data by advanced wipe (without changing the file system, kept it ext4)
data is usable now, I reboot to system...same issue...
I tried deleting cache, dalvik and internal, same thing, nothing changed
why is this happening and how to fixit? I am downloading the b19 bootstack and b19 system for flashing them, but that'll take a lot of time and maybe it's not a system issue at all can someone help?
That "Software corruption failed" message is NOT normal, but you should get a warning about "unable to check for corruption".
Had a similar issue after an unsuccessful attempt to flash TWRP 3.1. EDL was the answer. See HERE
I went through the process and even did not lose any data, to my surprise. Decided to stay with TWRP 3.0.4-1 .. .. ..
Good luck
I think you need to flash an su/root or the no-verity zip.
^^Ding ding ding. I mentioned in one of the other threads, there really needs to be a sticky about this.
The phone is not bricked, it's just not meeting certain security standards that the stock rom is checking for, so it halts before it even begins to boot. Flashing supersu patches the dm-verity check. Or if you don't want root, flash the no-verity zip.

Not really it was just the verity check >_> and yes it was "Unable to check for corruption"

IT MUST BE A STICKY since I rushed downloading twrp from twrp.me and flashed it via Axon7tool thinking everything was fine, being unaware of verity check >_> but now flashed no verity zip and booted successfully
This is my first Arm64 device and things are a bit confusing for me, sorry for this post I should've searched about the twrp post >_>

I'm trying to install CM via TWRP.
First I had to unlock the bootloader, so I did, and since then I could not boot to my stock Android (although, correct me if I'm wrong, unlocking the bootloader should NOT delete the OS), it just sent me to recovery.
So I went along, flashed TWRP and got cm 10.2.1 for jfltexx. At first it didn't install well, because my data partition was not formatted correctly. So I formatted it, now TWRP sees it correctly and is able to mount it, enable MTP and everything. When I try to install now, everything seems fine and TWRP's log shows "Updating partition details..." and gives me the "Successful" message, offering to wipe cache/reboot system. (I did wipe cache and dalvik cache before, of course).
If I choose "Reboot System", it just boots back to recovery. The same happens if I power it off and boot normally, even if I pull out the battery and retry that way.
What can I do about it?

First I'd try a newer version of CM. That's an old one. It might not work and play well with a newer version of TWRP. Plus the newer version is a little more polished.
Second, if you must use that CM version, redownload it. You wouldn't be the first person who got a corrupted install file that causes screwball issues like this.
Third, if all else fails use Odin to reset back to stock and start over. Something might have gotten all borked up when you first modified the device that isn't letting the install work. A full restore to stock should correct that.

Thanks for the reply.
Regarding the versions of CM and TWRP, I deliberately picked these versions due to their high download count (A sign I can trust these builds, being not too buggy). I'll try a newer CM version and another TWRP version if that didn't help.
I will also verify the MD5 for the downloaded file this time.
If I restore to stock via Odin, wouldn't that override the recovery? I've looked on some tutorial on how it's done, and it seems like the stock recovery is flashed, then used to restore the stock. Is there any way to use Odin to flash other ROMs?
EDIT: Nope cm-11-20140210 also failed, and I did verify the MD5 now. My TWRP is the newest available for jgedlte in the download page (2.8.0.1).
I did manage getting into some sort of a boot loop (The initial "Reboot System" brought back the recovery, but after a full power off and a reboot, the screen remains black and the phone vibrates every 4 seconds or so.)
EDIT 2: I tried to flash the stock back, following this tutorial. I downloaded the Open European version, flashed the AP but it failed during the write of system.img.ext4, saying that the image is invalid. I tried again with the PIT file, but it failed too (secure check fail while repartitioning...).
So I installed TWRP recovery using tuliptool and all that, but didn't bother with bootloader unlocking since it said it's not needed. So I tried to install Magisk using the instructions on their thread but after booting it asks me to reset my phone because the data got corrupted.
Luckily I had backed everything up beforehand, so I restored boot image and everything works fine again. Just wanted to know what I did wrong here. Did I miss any steps?

You probably didn't miss anything if it's the "Your device is corrupt. It can’t be trusted and may not work properly” error, I get the same thing. You messed with the files in the boot partition so ZTE's "safety" features in the stock ROM automatically call them corrupted. I simply hit the power button and continue to boot, my device works fine (actually much better than before being rooted with Magisk). I'm the one who "corrupted" the phone on purpose, so I'm comfortable it's fine. If you're getting another message, I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe try ADB sideloading Magisk in TWRP, it's what "worked" for me.

What do you mean by "hitting the power button and continue to boot"? When I hit the power button on the "Decryption unsuccessful" screen it just locks and unlocks like normal, but stays there.
Ok I managed to install Magisk after factory reset, but after that my sdcard is not being recognized anymore (but is recognizable in TWRP). So I decided to restore the backup i had, and rebooted. But now I'm stuck on the ZTE logo during boot. I can still open TWRP, though. I've tried wiping system, data, and cache, then restoring the backup, also no good. For now I'm downloading the stock firmware and will try that. Any ideas on how I can fix this before I flash the stock firmware?
EDIT: Ok I managed to fix it by installing the no verity boot image instead. Boots again. I'll probably refrain from trying to root for now. Thanks for the help.

Well, I wasn't much help, but it sounds like your overall problem was different than mine. My only advice is if you attempt to root with Magisk again, is to connect to your PC/Mac/etc with a cable, use the Advanced menu in TWRP, choose ADB sideload, and sideload Magisk from your PC/Mac/etc. You can find a more advanced explanations on various websites how to use ADB if you don't already know how. For some reason that worked for me and gave me full Magisk and phone functionality when nothing else did.

I didn't have to, but I can't guarantee it will work for you. I had previously factory reset my phone but at the time I sideloaded Magisk I had been using the phone for at least a week. Just make a backup of everything first to be safe. *edit* I am using the beta version of Magisk (16.4), not sure if that's making a difference.
Hello everyone.
Today I decided to wipe my phone and install NucleaRom on it. Everything ran well for a few hours but eventually the device froze, so I rebooted into the bootloader and then into recovery to wipe and restore my backup. The problem is, when the phone tries to wipe the data partition it reboots back into the bootloader.
At this point, I cannot wipe the phone, restore a backup, or reinstall NucleaRom. I just want to get back to stock rooted 7.0, which is how it was yesterday.
Can anyone help me figure this out? I do not have a backup phone and am pretty desperate at this point!
I tried to reflash the stock NPH25.200-22 image using fastboot but I start getting errors and the phone freezes on the bootloader screen. Just completely puzzled! I've been tinkering with Android phones since 2010 and have never run into something this bad before.
I think your problem might be caused by how f2fs is implemented in unofficial TWRP and NucleaROM. It does something to the data partition that doesn't always play nice.
Warning, what I suggest here is going to format your whole data partition. If there's anything on it you'd like to keep, I'd suggest backing it up with TWRPs built-in file manager or over USB to a computer before attempting this.
If I were in your situation, here's what I'd try:
1) Download the latest official TWRP
2) Flash it with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
3) Don't reboot normally. Use the volume rocker to select recovery and boot into it.
4) In TWRP select Wipe -> Advanced Wipe
5) Tick the Data box and then hit Repair or Change Filesystem
6) Select Change Filesystem
7) Select F2FS and let it format data
8) Reboot to bootloader and fastboot flash the full firmware package you were trying to. If you were already on that firmware or higher it is normal for bootloader and gpt.bin to fail, you can ignore those errors. Make sure every other step exits successfully, if not then repeat the step.
9) Reboot to system and cross your fingers
I'm not certain this will fix your problem, but if your phone is already non-booting, it isn't going to make it worse.

Thank you for the suggestion! I made the attempt but once my phone tries to format the data partition, it vibrates for about 5 seconds and then reboots back to the bootloader. It has been doing this yesterday every time I would try it. Do you have any suggestions as to why this is, and how to correct it?
I've pretty much given up hope at this point and was going to order a new phone. But it would be nice to get this back in working order so I can resell it or trade it in for a discounted price. The phone has been really good to me over the years and, besides a slightly worn down battery, still works fairly well. Hate to see it turn into a paper-weight when the hardware is still working!
EDIT: Tried the same thing, but this time using ext4 and it worked! Going to try and manually flash the firmware and see what happens!

Did you format with the latest official TWRP or the unofficial version of TWRP linked to the NucleaROM OP? There are differences. If one isn't working, try the other. I think it is just a matter of finding the right TWRP version to work with your data partition and reformatting it to fix it. I've also seen formatting it to ext4, then formatting it back to f2fs as a suggested fix for this.
If you just want to try different TWRP versions without constantly flashing new recoveries you can just boot into an image without actually flashing it with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
Others have had this problem of not being able to wipe before and solved it. Don't give up. I think you'll find the answer you're after in the official LOS thread or possibly the TWRP thread, but unfortunately with forums there's a lot of noise and the information is quite disjointed.
I've steered clear of the nougat firmware and rebased custom roms myself because it still seems to be in somewhat of a state of flux, so I don't have any firsthand experience with this.

Had my new OP5 rooted and almost everything was right in the world, but i flew too close to the sun by uninstalling a few apps I thought were expendable and eventually Google Play Services started crashing. When all troubleshooting failed I ended up flashing a fresh copy of OxygenOS (5.1.7) to my device, but every attempt to re-root the device has failed.
The first obstacle I ran into was that there was no access to Internal Storage in TWRP, I was able to fix that by Wipe > Format Data and then using Advanced Wipe to clean Dalvik/Cache/System/Data for good measure.
My next issue was that TWRP returned Error 7 when attempting to flash the stock OOS rom... after some digging I was able to clean the 'asserts' line from the updater-script file and now the rom will flash.
The headache has been getting the device re-rooted, and I feel like I've tried everything. I have to flash the SuperSU or Magisk zip (both fail to root the device) before reboot because the dm-verity encrypts on first boot and after that I can't access any storage to flash from internal memory. The three different dm-verity patches I've found don't prevent it. I also tried 'fastboot oem disable_dm_verity' to try and stop it but after talking with the device fastboot returns 'unknown command'.
My final effort to get around it was to flash a kernel that didn't force dm-verity (blu_spark kernel) but that returns Error 1: 'Unsupported Android Version' when I attempt to flash it.
I've tried dozens of variations on this, including a Lineage OS rom instead and also trying to sideload certain zips, but still no dice. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Hi, this one is because of your TWRP. Please flash Codework's TWRP and try that with it. It should solve your issue for sure. (same thing happened to me while I tried installing custom roms and every time I needed to wipe everything to see my internal storage again)
This guide can help you out with Error 7 on TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522762
I do believe your this issue you're having caused by TWRP. Also after rooting the phone, install magisk app. (you don't need to install supersu, it comes with magisk). After rebooting into system reboot your phone again once more it should show up on magisk app that you've successfully rooted your phone. Remember after flashing magisk you need to reboot twice in order for phone to realize it. Please try the steps I told you and let me know.
Also you don't need to flash dm-verity patch at all.
Try clean flash instructions with Codework's TWRP and root it with latest Magisk.

I actually really like the Oreo version of OxygenOS, so when I had to resort to re-flashing to fix this mess I dug up one of the stock (5.1.7) roms, it served me well (assuming I can get it rooted, lol).
I'd be willing to move to Lineage if I absolutely have to, but if not, I'd really like to keep Oreo if at all possible.

For 5.1.7 try this twrp https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UlTftbe6wooAs4Fp0cjwXlOKmfQHgdfL/view?usp=drivesdk along with magisk 17.1.
Clean flash is recommended. If it didn't help, please list your steps again(detailed).
Don't use supersu and skip the other suggestions for now please.

Odd. If I had to guess anything, it would be that not all the partitions were flashed when going from Nougat to Oreo.
I once flash a Nougat ROM from an Oreo ROM and I had the same encryption issue and lost everything.
That was the last time I would trust myself again and not do a backup.

I tried that as well. With stock recovery is says data is corrupted and doesn't do anything. I think it might be a problem with patched lg up because when i use normal lg up to flash oreo it works. But I cant root then.
I would try changing to 3.2.3-4 TWRP and then trying the procedure again. It seems that the 3.3.0 TWRP does not decrypt properly sometimes.

Hi
Looking for a way to keep TWRP and root ... any help appreciated
I've got a US996 with the same issue as the op. I have the latest TWRP 3.3.1-0. The phone was working fine until I upgraded twrp but I might have done a mistake resetting phone outside of twrp.
I can still get back into twrp but I haven't been able to install zip files without getting that decryption unsuccessful message when booting to system.
When getting back into TWRP using hardware buttons sometimes there is a prompt asking "keep system read only?" which I never chose and swipe to allow modification. I think this happens after
I pull the battery after getting the decryption unsuccessful message. There is a reset system that I could chose under the decryption unsuccessful message but I'm assuming that will make me lose twrp
...but if my phone is a us996 and is still
unlocked, would it matter if I did select it? Wouldn't I be able to reinstall twrp using adb again on a computer after Oreo is reinstalled?
To do Prowler_gr's suggestion which guide do I follow (sounds like I should do the second option)

Don't blame me if this goes wrong but I'm pretty much 100% certain that you mush press the rest button. This has happened to me a few times I'm sure. You won't loose twrp. Whatever resetting goes on in the background I don't think it's an actual Factory Reset.
Edit: Just to be clear you taking about a white screen with I think in dark blue or black text ENCRYPTION UNSUCCESSFUL and something like "reset phone" option directly under it, on the upper half of the screen?
Hi ezzony
Yes you are thinking of the right decryption unsuccessful page. I get it when booting to system
after installing Oreo and magisk 19 and having wiped everything (format data too). I will get the exact wording of it tonight
Thanks!
