Can anyone please tell me if there is a custom ROM available for the SM-T285 that will either remove or increase the tethering limit on this model. I had an older Galaxy that had a 10 device limit which was just about OK but now they've forced it down to 5 users.

No, this is not possible.
Unless of course you are going to extensively modify the firmware and drivers and everything. It's not just like adding ram to a computer.
I hope someone here may let me understad if tethering usb on N10 4.4.2 is possible.
I would like to understand too if it is possible without root by installing a proper app, but I think at the moment it is not, and I thiink that really incredible....

I saw a post of people saying that you can fix Note 4 RAM Managemente editing the system/build.prop but since it's diffenrece with DN 5 I don't know I have to tweak so I'm able to apply this fix.

I am really new to all of this customizing and rooting. I've read through a lot of the threads on the Galaxy j7pro and I'm not sure if any of the Roms will work for me and what I need. I need my phone to Ruth android wi-fi tether app (from android-wifi-tether.googleco...v3_3-beta2.apk) which requires a kernel which supports netfilter (iptables), so that i can connect via wifi (ad-hoc mode)and get access to the internet using the 3G, 2G mobile connection which is established by the handset.
I can already tether with my phone but... with this app I will be able to get UNLIMITED FREE data to my laptop which I can then share with everyone. So sorry I hope I don't sound like an idiot. So to the point. Which custom rom and kernel do I need to install if any?

In android 10 root is a joke.
You can't even mount system as read/write even with root! This is a new 'security feature' of android 10...
If you want real root with full system read/write access it's better to stay on android 9 IMHO until somebody figures out how to disable this shared_blocks 'feature' of android 10
