[Solved] Accidentally flashed forced encryption boot.img - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 6P running the 1st beta of 7.1.2 and in attempt to update the next one I flashed the update again and I forgot to flash a custom kernel after it. My data partition had about 70gb worth of files and it was previously unencrypted, my phone has been booting for the past 15 minutes or so and it's really hot, does that mean that it's currently encrypting my data and that it'll be done eventually or is my data screwed? (This happened to me once before and I rebooted to recovery thinking it was bootlooping and it said that my data is corrupted because I interrupted the encryption, so I'm afraid that'l happen again again all because of the encryption that I don't want and I never asked for)
Edit: after 25 minutes it finished booting and all my data is still alive but encrypted. It was worth waiting and not corrupting my data.

[Q] Filesystem corruption on reboot unless cache/dalvik wipe

So I have been having issues with random hangs during boot and subsequent filesystem corruption. I say filesystem corruption because TWRP prompts me for a password because it thinks the drive is encrypted and certain partitions/directories fail to be restored to with the dalvik cache failing to be wiped seeming to be a consistent.
So in a nutshell rebooting my phone without first going into TWRP and performing a cache/dalvik wipe inevitably causes filesystem corruption. I discovered this pattern last night when flashing a zip, booting the phone and setting things up, rebooting directly into recovery and making a backup and doing nothing else, rebooting, noticing the phone hang after a few minutes of the "Samsung Galaxy S4" splash screen, then rebooting in recovery being prompted for a password, then formatting data, then restoring the backup I had just made, and having the phone bootup successfully after that. Since then a bit of trial and error has only demonstrated to me that without wiping the cache/dalvik some filesystem gets corrupted rendering the phone unable to boot.
So I am curious if anybody has any idea what might cause this except maybe a bad internal SD card. I am pretty tech savvy but I do not have nearly as much experience troubleshooting these phones as many of you guys.
I have tried everything short of restoring to stock which I am going to attempt later if nobody is able to shed some light on this issue.
Thank you.
Try re-loading recovery via Odin.

I am attempting this now. I did not realize that you meant stock recovery when I first wrote this post.

I'm having this same issue on my gf's Kindle Fire I w/CM10.2, but without the prompt for password. So annoying! Did you ever fix it? - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563695

Massive softbrick (haven't found a solution yet)

Hello everyone,
So here's my story: I got a 6P short after release and it's been amazing. After switching from a S6 I couldn't be happier until 3 days ago.
I was playing around with my phone (checking for updates on the play store if I recall correctly) and I was going to switch from 4g to wifi. I went ahead and pulled down my notification shade and went to press WiFi but misclicked and hit Hotspot which was below it. My phone suddenly froze big time and this is for the first time ever since purchase.
At first I thought I'd wait it out since the device was completely unresponsive, home button didn't work and neither did anything on screen. Buttons didn't make a difference either. 10 minutes went by and I ended up force restarting by holding down power + volume up. First part of my bootup went fine but when it got to the android boot animation after I put in my pin to allow the device to start it dropped from the smooth usual framerate down to 1 frame every 10-15 seconds and it slowed down further until it came to a complete halt around the time the android letters appear.
My first thought was corrupt rom so I went ahead and wiped data from the stock recovery. I was running completely stock with no modifications whatsoever. That didn't do anything. Phone still froze in the same boot phase. Desperate I unlocked bootloader to flash a clean fresh image to try to fix it and to my surprise that didn't change a thing.
As I was getting pretty desperate already I had one more idea and that was to flash up to the Dev preview. To my huge surprise it booted and I jumped from excitement. So I started setting up my phone again. I got past the prompt to insert sim card and I was now at the screen to choose a wifi network. As soon as I clicked into that the phone froze up again and at that point I lost all hope.
I wiped data in stock recovery and shut the phone down for the night. On day 3, today I woke up and tried starting the phone and it worked as if nothing had happened. I went through the setup and set up my phone on the N preview. At a certain point I was planning to go back to the latest official build but for now I was happy my phone was back from the dead. Later today I tried to restart my phone to clear all running apps etc and it froze up on boot.
I'm losing all hope that I'll be resolving this myself so I'm reaching out to the community to see if anyone's had this happen to them before and hopefuly for a solution. It's still under warranty so I can eventually send it back to the retailer but I'd rather not have a phone for 3 weeks.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you for reading through my long and probably pretty boring story!
Have you tried flashing the factory image? If yes, did you made sure to wipe/erase the system, boot, vendor, and cache partition before flash the corresponding img files?
To the OP, is there any reason you did not flash to release version 6 instead of Dev preview ?
Also, any reason you can not simply do the "unenroll" from https://www.google.com/android/beta ?
It will require you to setup certain settings again as you will be back to a "factory reset".

DJBhardwaj, i haven't specifically erased those partitions. I was under the impression wipe userdata along with reflashing did that. I will try that tonight when I get home!
Xdafly, I only updated up to N as a last resort because at first I had a locked BL. I was planning to unenrol but that would've been too late as it self bricked after a restart.

Well I just did the erase thingy and my phone booted but wifi won't turn on. Enabling hotspot doesn't brick anymore but I now suspect WiFi might've been the issue. Any tips on how to find out what it could be and possibly fix it?
Edit: 2 restarts and a factory reset later I'm back to bricked same way as before.
try safe mode

That was my first thought, that was the restart that bricked it again. Safe mode shouldn't have made a difference since I hadn't even logged into Google account for apps.
After reading the very first post; sounds like bad WiFi hardware.
All the hanging has been related to WiFi or Hotspot.
I think you should get a replacement

Is your phone rooted and did you install Xposed?
Over the weekend I shutdown my 6p (stock rooted with April security patch, Xposed v80) and charged it. When it turned it back up I kept getting "Unfortunately, nfc service has stopped". Long story short: I ended up factory reset my phone and reinstalled EVERYTHING and I still got into bootloop. Then I came across
https://github.com/rovo89/Xposed/issues/113
https://github.com/rovo89/android_art/issues/28
At the end of the second post rovo89 (developer of Xposed) fixed the bug in V83. I wiped my 6p once more and installed everything with v83. Problem solved.
Good luck!

Encryption not working with Oneplus One and PA 7.2.1

Hello, I have an problem with encryption stuck at "time remaining 00:00" forever.
I have tried to encrypt again several times and it won't complete.
A forced reboot results in a corrupted filesystem.
Is this a known issue?
I have the exact same issue with OnePlus 5. I installed LineageOS, disabled the forced encryption (flashed no-verity-op5.zip and formatted data) and then chose encryption from settings. The phone booted and started encrypting. It has now been in state "Encrypting. Wait while your phone is being encrypted. Time remaining: 00:00" for five hours. I already stopped it once after waiting for more than one hour and it resulted in corrupted filesystem. I'm not expecting this encryption phase to finish at all.

Weird bootloop

Have had my OnePlus 2 since 2015, and it's been a solid performer up to today.
I had the crDroid ROM (8.1) installed, along with Magisk, and it's been working fine for over a month with zero issues.
Today, I went to remove an app that was being troublesome, and then rebooted. And it just bootlooped. Animation is playing, but that's it. It sits there for 10-15 mins doing nothing. I hold the Power button to shut it down, and then try booting again. Same thing, just a straight bootloop for 15 mins. So I reboot to recovery (TWRP 3.2.1.0) and flash the Magisk uninstaller, to see if restoring the stock boot partition would help. It didn't, and just gave the same bootloop. So I go back into TWRP, wipe /system /cache and /dalvik and reinstall the ROM and gapps. Reboot. Same bootloop.
Now I'm starting to get a little concerned. Right now I'm restoring a backup from 10 days ago that I made before I last updated the ROM, but assuming this fails, does anyone have any good ideas? I'm not an expert, but I'm not a novice either, and this isn't making much sense. Unless my OnePlus 2 is getting ready to check out, which would suck...
idk if you had any mods like kernel or whatever or what app you removed (and if it had root acces) but first make sure you are on latest twrp, then try to clean flash a rom like normal. try to boot it it should work.
Thanks for the reply. No mods, other than Magisk. Just a stock 8.1 ROM with Magisk on top. Wiping /system, /cache and reflashing the ROM did not work. In the end, restoring a backup from a week ago was the only thing that worked. I have no idea why or what happened, but I guess it's yet another reason to keep a good backup on your phone in case of situations like this.

This means that a date/time overflow occurred in your system
You restored a backup from 10 days ago, I'm assuming an older version of the ROM? So the newer version has an overflow bug
Even if nothing changes on the system your system time is always changing and if the ROM or kernel is somehow messed up then this value can cause an overflow and if a security module of some sort (like fortify_source or stack_buffer_protection) finds out about the overflow it can prevent boot from happening
Note: below example not completely valid in the real world, I've removed some stuff and is just for clear understanding.
Let's elaborate, "signed int" accepts values from -32768 to +32768 (0 inclusive)
What do you think happens when a value below -32768 is passed? That's an underflow and it's not defined what would happen below that limit (actually stuff does happen but see below notice)
If you pass a value over 32768 you cause an overflow
Note: I'm not going to go into details about what exactly happens. This would add too much information and cause more confusion than it would clear
What does this have to do with the date? Well every second your system date increases and if you got one of these limits you're going to run into problems
This is the only possible explanation for what could have happened
Thanks for the explanation. i think I understood most of it.
The backup from 10 days ago was from an older version of the ROM, though I have since installed the latest ROM version on top of the restored backup without issue, as I did when I first made the backup.

XT907 bricked (probably partitions in read-only)

Good morning.
After almost 3 years with no problems with a XT907, I have again an issue with it (this time, my father's one). Again, I come to you requesting help.
It all started with all apps crashing over and over. With an old XT907 I have for emergencies, the common fix method is flashing VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_1FF.xml.zip with RSD Lite v6.1.5 and all solved.
I tried that method with my father unit, and when it started again, all process were still crashing. I thought it was still nothing (just a harder issue), and tried flashing VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_CFC_1FF_SVC.xml.zip, just deleting all his data, to fix it.
When the process ended, it turned on and it had still the same problem. In this point, I got worried the /system and /data partitions got locked
I re-started, went to stock Recovery, and wiped system and cache. Then, went to Fastboot a third time and tried again flashing VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_CFC_1FF_SVC.xml.zip. Guess what? Still the same problem
The phone turns on, but ALL apps keep crashing over and over. I can't even take an screenshot, as it immediately reboots.
Someone know what happened with it? And... how to fix this issue?
