While watching this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWLsspDeQpU) on youtube I noticed a setting for Facial Recognition. The actual setting is called "Trusted Face". It wasn't mentioned during the video but it was a setting I noticed while something else was being shown. The setting is under security/smartlock. I set it up and it works great. No fancy animations or anything, it just works. Anyway, just wanted to point out that the Axon 7 has this feature.
There is also a setting called "Trusted Voice" in the smartlock tab. This sets up the "OK Google" command, which also works really well!
I am using the A2017U Axon 7 which has been updated to 7.1.1. (I also use it on Verizon with no issues whatsoever).
Feel free to delete this thread if everyone was already aware of these features. I was not aware of them so I figured there may be a few more people out there who didn't know about them either.....
Cannot find this option, where is it?
Trusted voice has been about for ages, and also face unlock.
If you look for the google app in the app draw, open it and its in the settings of that app.

I have a month old axon 7. I had the facial recognition set up, if worked fine, now all of a sudden it doesn't work and for the life of me I can't find the settings for it. I swear it was there and it worked (yes, after the 7.1.1 upgrade).

Absolutely no sign of trusted face. Must not be an option on A2017.
Not sure why it's not there for you?

Not sure either...it's just gone from the menu.
EDIT: NM, problem solved. I have a credit card app set up as Device Admin. As soon as I removed it as an admin, Facial recognition came back.

I was looking through the Nexus 7 manual in the Play Books app and one of the things it says for gestures is swiping up from the bottom on any screen and saying the word "Google" then your search will search for you. I've swiped up and said it, swiped then paused briefly before saying it but nothing works. Is this something that was taken out with the 4.1.1 update or has it always been missing? Failing that am I doing something wrong?
To clarify things I'm not talking about voice search. I can tap the microphone icon and get search results that way but that isn't what the manual says or what I'm talking about.
Did you elect to turn on Google Now at the first boot? If not, find it in settings and tick the box

I'm guessing you're not based in the US? Google now is pretty crippled when not using the US version. One of the missing features (at least in the UK) is the ability to activate the voice search by saying Google, also the pretty search results with pictures etc are not there too.

This seems to be the problem then. Curses! Thanks for letting me know.
I am US based, and have been unsuccessful with the "say google" voice command as well.
I launch google now.
I say google, and it starts listening for search and I can talk to it.
Works fine for me.
thats because in the second update on the nexus 7 it was taken out due to the court case!

That's a US court case though and only applies to the US. It's similar to how I can buy a Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1 if I want to regardless of what happens in the US. I would hope that Google would leave it in for all non-US countries.
Bielinsk, have you updated? Are you using the stock ROM? If you're using the stock ROM and have updated then something else must be causing it. If you haven't updated then it's clearly been removed.
Swipe from Home button, "Google", "[query]".

Where exactly in the settings menu? Google Now's settings? General settings? I've looked in all of them and unless I'm missing something it should be enabled.
Same question for those saying it works, have you updated? Stock or custom ROM? I'm on 4.1.1 stock

Just a bit of info i have found from research -
If you're in the UK and the pictures aren't displaying, you have to tick - 'search from google.com' in the Google Now settings, and not use google.co.uk.
Same thing stands if you want the cute female voice - You have to change the language to English US
Hope this helps
p.s - the only thing i am stuck with is how to set up 'my locations' - i have enabled this within the Google Now settings but on the Maps app, i cannot add 'my locations', which makes that part of Google Now pretty much useless. I want Google Now to give me prompts to leave, etc etc, its a pretty nifty thing they showed off. Anyone know?
To set your Home and Work locations you have to go to maps.google.com (or .co.uk or wherever you live) on your PC and log into your Google account. You should see the links under the Create Map button on the left.

Here's what I have found
UK nexus 7 on stock 4.1.1
Voice language set to English UK
Search set to Google.co.UK
Offline files for voice recognition for UK English downloaded.
No hot word option in menu. No response to "Google"
Change language to English us at Google now. Change search to Google.com exit from Google now go back in Google hot word works menu option there.
BUT voice recognition way off (was almost perfect before)
Change language back to English UK, exit, back into Google now, no response to "Google" no menu hot word option.
Seems to be the language rather than the search that triggers it.
Guess it will come when they have analysed enough voices to get it right. Although it seems a strange thing to leave out given the rest of the recognition stuff works OK.
I installed the GEL and search pulled from the nexus 5 that others use and say it works but the "ok Google" at anytime on the home screen doesn't work for me. I have it on English us and changed it then changed back cause I heard that helps but still no avail. Even when inside Google now I can't say ok Google, and I do have voice activation checked in settings. Any idea?

Yeah I am, I used the guide here, http://phandroid.com/2013/11/14/how-to-install-google-experience-launcher-with-ok-google-command/ before it refused to work for me at all, now it works every time it seems. Look for the first picture before the following paragraph:
"Once in Google Now, scroll all the way to the bottom and press the 3 dot menu to select Settings. From there, select “voice” > “offline speech recognition” (manage downloaded languages). Now, we’re going to work our way from the right tab, all the way to the left." Then follow what it says. Also running 4.4.2 on T-Mobile LG G2 (D801) and having the same issue. Worked before the 4.4.2 upgrade, now it doesn't. Still works if you click the mic icon and talk, but doesn't recognize "OK google" as a hotword anymore. Hopefully there will be a patch soon, as the update was only just released 5 days ago (not even OTA yet). If anyone knows how to fix, let me know as well. I have tried the same steps (uninstalling updates, clear cache, re-install updates). Checked settings and hotword is enabled. Thanks!
Make sure to enable Google Now and Hotword Detection.
Also make sure your system language is English (US).
Already checked that. Turned Google Now off and back on as well as hotword detection to see if it fixed it which it did not. I sent feedback to Google that is was not working via the send feedback button. Hopefully it is just a bug and will be patched soon.
Fix for hotword detection!
Go to system settings/General/Accessibility,
Turn off On-Screen Phone,
Google Hotword detection will work again.

No, I'm not I was using the LG launcher that came with the rooted kitkat I just installed... I like the LG UI, so if it requires changing that, I'll pass. Thanks for the info.
However, I'm still confused as to why "on screen phone" doesn't show up in my settings/general/accessibility. That doesn't have anything to do with a launcher.

Probably sounds stupid here, but what do you mean non-factory 4.4.2?
I'm using the current OTA 4.4.2 that was just modified to allow rooting, other than that it's the same as anyone that updated OTA.
But again, if it's a required install to get, why would not having it stop the "okay google" from working on the google mic ribbon on the home page? If I click the mic it works fine.

Another vote for Authenticator plus. It is a much better 2 factor authentication program than the google offering. I am stock and rooted and able to use it without difficulty. What error do you get? Could it be a Chroma issue?

I'm not sure where the issue lies. I never tried it on the stock ROM since I installed Chroma almost immediately after getting the phone. In the app's security settings, it says "Your device is rooted" on top and the fingerprint option is grayed out, I can only use the PIN lock.

So I guess that the only way is to disable trusted voice if one cared enough. Personally, I didn't search as I didn't really care but my brother opened my phone on the first attempt. This is definitely not secured.
I will keep it on as I like asking my phone questions while it sits on my computer desk.
