If your shield tablet occasionally lags - Shield Tablet General

Hi guys! If you're like me who is forever frustrated with the occasional lags of this supposedly fast device (especially during wake up after long sleep scenario) and also afraid to change their settings during firmware updates, maybe you'd like to consider what I did:
Setup: US LTE device using RoW LTE ROM 5.1, unrooted, TWRP Recovery
History: would just passively update or restore old settings every firmware updates/flashing of mods since lollipop days. Antutu performance is between 60k-92k, with around 80k average in latest firmware (which is absurd). Occasional lags after using the device for a while
Methods:
Factory reset/DO NOT restore old settings and apps, literally start from scratch (you may back up your old data if that's important)
No Google now
No antivirus/malware apps
No Google keyboard
So far, didn't install Facebook and Messenger
Effects (after 2 days observation):
tablet is smooth, AND VERY stable (lagged only once, during initial setup, while updating Google apps)
Apps open quickly, chrome doesn't lag ESP when keyboard is activated
Battery life and management considerably improved
CPU use seems to have been more effective than before (used to be always at around 90-100%, and very hot). Antutu averages at 93k now
Gaming experience is much better
Connectivity is also improved, my controller no longer occasionally disconnects
Background and active App processes no longer crashes (I've always been hassled by app crashes ever since I was on nougat)
Post Analysis:
I suspect that I may have unwittingly installed malicious apps or used faulty settings in the past which persisted throughout my updates and that could have caused severe lagging and very poor user experience on this device. I'm just a regular customer with little background on computer processes, and my claims may be baseless in the eyes of hardcore developers, but my aim is to just provide alternative approach to other frustrated customers.
Ive always thought Nvidia native apps and processes might be causing these annoying lags, since everytime I use custom ROMs (which don't have these apps), the device would operate like a Nexus machine - smooth, snappy, and stable. But I'm a huge fan of the controller, video output, and the dabbler, so I'm stuck with stock (pun intended).
I've never been ON MY SHIELD TABLET for more than 20 hours straight until now. I've never enjoyed using it before. I hope this awesome experience continues longer and more permanently. For those who are interested, let me know if you've tried this and what happened? Maybe this can help rule out hardware issues or manufacturing-related defects.

Pretty sure removing Facebook would be enough, atleast for me...

The best way to remove lags is flash recovery images : https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload
5.0 images are available just flash it using fastboot adb flash.

I used to think that way as well. But since I played around with this tablet from its KitKat days, I noticed that it becomes laggy over a period of time. Everytime I convert this device to it's fresh state again (using recovery rom) and then restore my apps and settings using Google backup, same issues happen. The only time I was able to really achieve a stable and amazing experience was this time. Fresh from recovery, factory reset, and then installation of apps from scratch. Never had any lags or crashes ever since I posted this. Some faulty bugs must have been wiped out a long the way. I don't know. Lol
To conclude, congrats to Nvidia developers team! They nailed it this time! hope this tablet will reach android o.

Running latest Stock with root access I disabled some bloatware including official launcher and replaced it with Nova.
Things are smooth now.

I just clean flashed to 5.1 and all is well. How did you root it?
I want to change readahead which was most of the problem in the past, not to mention ad blocker! I love Nova.
I can't really confirm but I think the lags on this model are due to it using ghetto-slow nvram, and thermal throttling. Maybe readahead too and Nvidia "enhancements" or all 4. I can tell for sure the nvram is butt slow on this device, but I'll bench N once it settles down. Readahead has dramatically cleared up lags on my older devices, such that why buy new ones. 2Mb on Nexus 6 and that thing now flies and is buttery smooth. This tablet is an enigma, there seem to be many engineering issues with it.
BTW - I had some stuff left over from lineage (cyano), so if you guys are flashing to stock, I recommend that you get twrp (latest), boot to recovery and WIPE everything including userdata. I normally wipe everything first, then userdata. Once I did that (and wiped SD) everything came up like a champ.
Also I had a heck of a time w/ the drivers on Windows 10, but I installed the shield USB drivers, and then I used miniadb. I was concerned on sparse w/ system but it worked just fine. The Nvidia instructions are dated, you can just run the flash-all.bat rather than typing all of the fastboot commands. They also recommend you get fastboot from Google. Don't bother as they have removed adb/fastboot from the command line tools and you will need to download the entire SDK or install it via CLI.
Nvidia should really spend 10 minuted updating their documentation...

The lag was fixed in the 5.2 update. It disables Doze by default now. Some even suggest that turning Doze back on works fine.

98419 on my stock k1 using 5.2, disabled unless stuff manually, and optimized settings.

hey i know the whole OMG APPS2SD WE HAVE ROOT thing is big around here. but i dont have use for apps2sd at all. i have 14 apps and i change firmware like 9001 times a day when something new comes out. but i have 2gigs of OGG music files. and every firmware i have used ends up bugging out when im playing music and i get a notifacation with the usb headphone adapter connected. could we get a firmware optimized for music and enjoying it instead of showing off our rooted phones with no real use behind it. redirect this post if you need to. i know the whole "WRONG FORUM TOPIC LOCKED" thing happens alot here.
you can try the getting the EQ mod or the Max volume mod as well
would there be any use in me attempting to set up the sdk and pulling an all nighter to learn how to make my own NON BLEEDING EDGE but very stable release? cuz i would love to just have a stable phone with every volume thing and EQ pre installed. and that pesky sound service bug, dats gotta get fixed.

has preinstalled max volume, also a selection of the roms
You don't need the sdk to use the audio mods. Read a little bit more, and you will discover that you can use lucidrem's script to download the the audio mods without a pc. It takes a little patience, some time, and using the terminal. But it is easy if you follow the instructions. Also the developer of the audio mods also has several custom roms with the mods built in.
Edit. If you want a stable Rom use jf1.51, thedudes 1.2b you can add the audio mod on top of the using the bat files that comes with the audio mods
i'll try out *** - JF1.51 CRB43 US with V2 then. im used to using the terminal, its not a problem to mod my own, but being able to just quickly flash my phone back is too tempting. and @ubernicholi, i was meaning the sdk to build my own firmware as a whole. i assume its going to take me a while to understand why this whole multiple firmware bidness is a good thing, when its basicly taking all the newest unsupported code from the tree, and applying it and modifying it for the Dream handset, and in doing so, giving it 3rd party support. like downloading windows xp black pirate edition on TPB, to me its useless. ahhh the beauty of open source ^__^
why not go back to stock? it's not bleeding edge and it'll play your music just fine.
theres no shame in that.
wait. no, no...there is shame. terrible, terrible amounts of shame.
yea, but then i cant use debian. which is pretty cool so far.

lol I apologize I couldn't resist. So if a music centric build is what you are looking for, then it would be possible to strip out a lot of unnecessary features. First off, I think Google sync which is constantly running in the background can be taken out. Applications that are constantly refreshing, such as Mail can be removed. I understand you have apps to SD currently installed. Try internalizing the Music.apk, moving it back into the faster more reliable internal memory. Moreover, a good place to start I believe would be with the Google Ion build, which is lightning fast.
if i knew how to do that, i would slim down a stock JF update.
I think you should start out by flashing to Google Ion. Then, using ADB on your computer, enter ADB shell and being to manually remove the unnecessary applications. Whatever you don't need, take it out. As for Google sync, go to settings and disable it. Also in settings, disable notifications. At a point, you can even just turn off the radio and switch to airplane mode. That way no other services are running and you can listen to music uninterrupted, at the cost of not being able to accept calls.
wow, thanks for the support. i was looking at ION and thinking that it would be perfect. but im not really sure how to set up the development on fedora 11.

Ion FTW.
You set it up the same as you do on any other distro...
and...
what do you honestly do with debian on your phone?
As in on your computer? Are you running Linux or any operating system based on Linux? If so, unfortunately I can't help you there, I mostly use Windows and occasionally Wubi ):
(In all honesty I have very little knowledge when it comes to running Linux on a computer, so sorry about that haha)
I forgot to add, maybe increase your processor clock speed to 528Mhz. Look for an app called SetCPU. It is here on the forums for free, as the creator is among us or alternatively download it from the market, however it is a paid app on their.
if u use ion use R1 its faster than R2 in my opinion
i use um that overclock widget, i love that thing, works so well. umm. debian on my phone is pretty cool. it has potential. umm i might set this up and get a small release with just my name and roadmap on it.

Hmm.. looking at your signature, overclocking your PC, and even getting Debian to work in the first place, I think you are definitely capable and very experienced. Best of luck to you
Let us know if you are able to get that stripped down version of Google Ion working. I would do it, but I don't know how to resign updates and I just finally settled down on Haykuro 6.0.1 after a ROM struggle between JAC's Hero, TwistedUmbrella's Hero and JF1.51 where I was flashing a new ROM on a daily basis.
my only thing is my work ethic and lack of programming experiance. if anyone could help me get started. hell, i might actually post something in the android development outlining the project goals and stuff like that.

[ROM][BETA] EnergyExpressoXDA v2.2.1.0.022 12-11 (Sense 2.2,Smartass,Cache2cache)

This ROM is rather incomplete as it is part of a project to backport parts of other HTC Sense 2.2 (Froyo) MDPI ROMs in ordr to have an HTC based Froyo ROM for Eris. Unlike the CyanogenMOD ports which have provided versions for models of their Froyo ROMs which were much easier to work on the Eris and have had 5+ months of painstaking work where this is only on its first month.
I'm just trying to get the optimization aspects done while others get full hardware functionality working, although I may join them soon. So what works? Allot actually. What doesn't? Thanks to Tazz, Tenzo, Conap & Decadance not much (BT audio, camera and WIFI hotspot).
It is fully themed using a combination of contributions providing a clean and somewhat unique Expresso look as well as many common performance tweaks which, to me, have provided a smoother, less choppy feel when interacting with the UI when compared to its parent ROMs.
Please note that portions of this ROM fall under the GPL, Apache and BSD licences. You may find the details of these licences here.
Since I rarely use the camera and never used BT audio I am currently using this as my day to day ROM. That does not mean it provides me a full experience. It is still very bleeding edge.
Features
Fully Expresso Based Themed
Additional Eye Candy

etc...

NOTE:
Before releasing more updates I am moving my efforts towards helping Tazz & Tenzo with core functionality and take what I can for that and help Kaos with Gingerbread. Once all core functionality is in place for this ROM's parent ROMs I will get this going as a serious ROM with the same focus it has now. So development on this ROM is still 100% active but it is gonna take a bit before you see a new release.

I'm getting the same thing.
I'm getting installation aborted when I try to install it. I did a complete wipe and boot in recovery.
I tired re signing the .zip file I downloaded and even that wouldn't work. I opened it in winRAR just to check and I get a break operation where it says unexpected end of archive and it says there are 0 bytes of data. Properties says its 120MB but I don't have a checksum to verify that the file is intact. It seems whatever was uploaded has been corrupted.
The archive is corrupt. Please re-upload it.

Ditto here.
I downloaded it late last night and it took FOREVER! I see he updated the link... Anyhoo. I was able to get it to install and it seemed pretty smooth/stable. I saw a couple FCs.. one in particular was in Settings > Network > Mobile Net options. Each time I tried to get into that setting page, it would FC. I also tried to get Facebook from the Market and it would never download.
I like the new sense ui though! it looks really clean. I've not sampled Tazz's or Tenzo's yet.
No LWPs worked for me.
Switching back to XTRSense for now.
Keep up the work!

Android OS process eating away battery life

Hi all,
So, this problem appears common on other phones as well, and appears to be a Gingerbread issue. Drilling down further using Watchdog Lite on the phone, it appears to be a process called Suspend causing the high CPU usage.
There are a few threads on this:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=11126#makechanges
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15057
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10004299&posted=1#post10004299
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTouch-4G/quot-suspend-quot-linux-process/m-p/605813
Personally, I'm getting pretty terrible battery life out of my S2, and I can confirm that in the Battery Status menu, Android OS appears extremely high at around 40% (a friends Nexus has this sitting at around 2%).
Not sure there's much we can do about it but wait and hope for a fix from Samsung (or Google)... People are reporting that rebooting the phone can help, but it's only temporary.
Anyway, just something to check if you're having issues.
+1 second that.
Android os eats the most of the battery
Reboot helps temporarily.

OK. So now we have identified an "issue".
Could you guys post juiceplotter logs while phone is asleep and draining, and while in use?
For asleep, i mean literally not touching it for half an hour. On, just occasional tap to keep screen on.
What we are after is an idea of what is causing system to use the power. Can we compare configurations of push email etc, to see if anything differs?
Are we rooted? Etc

Hi mate,
I rooted my phone yesterday, but I don't think that's a cause as it was just as bad before. In fact I rooted it just so I could freeze some apps
At the moment, I only have my google account set to sync (calendar, mail, contacts), and I have gmail pushing through emails.
All the stock Samsung apps are frozen. No widgets are running (I'm trying to run it fairly barebones to see how long I can get out of it).
I don't have juiceplotter installed, I'll look into that. I do have Watchdog though, and from all the other threads on this issue the problem seems to be the Suspend process (confirmed by a Google employee).
I don't think there's much we can do aside from wait for a fix. The problem appears to have been around since at least September last year.
I had this the first few days I had the phone, my battery was being wiped out in hours.
I formatted both my mem cards and hard reset. Since then my battey life has been amazing (got through the whole day yesterday only using 25% battery), and os use has dropped to about 18% (still a bit high but better than 40%).
Same issue here, both new flashed roms and my own slim roms suffer from same issue. I have a look tonight if i can find any solution.

OK. I will see if I can think of anything, as I remember we fixed a similar issue when popping 2.1 onto it, when some binary was giving us trouble...
Root or no root don not affect this issue. Only time i dont get it: fresh flash of new rom without anything installed.
Same issue here and I rooted freezing load of Apps but still drain
*edit*
It seems to stop drain when using reboot the phone.. not yet confirmed just a speculation... Btw these processes eat a lot of battery never got these problems on sgs1 custom gingers rom

Haven't encountered the problem yet with pretty heavy use plus a few resets. It's probably a specific app or settings that you're turning on/using after each hard reset that causes it.
I'm still on the original firmware though, haven't flashed a new one yet. Might be related.
this is not universal, i don't have this problem. sgs 2 rooted with insecure kernel by chainfire.
*subscribing*
I also have the same drain issue. I have the S2 setup exactly the same way my Captivate was, and the battery life isn't the same.

Not really relevant I think - all Android users are going to have background data enabled in accounts and sync. Mine is enabled without the issue, anyway. I am only syncing a single gmail account though.
Have you tried what the linked thread recommends - going into manage applications and clearing data for the update system? You might want to try clearing data for all of the android system tasks.

Thoughts? Ideas?
Forgive me.
I thought folks were on 1.30.xxx or even higher by now.
And my battery life is pathetic.
And i keep getting notifications about having connected to my home network without ever leaving the house, I get good signal clear to my car.
Many things to love about HTC 10. A number of things... not so much.
I don't understand your problem. Looks like your phone has the most recent Verizon OTA already.
I swear, I thought I read that a 1.30.xxx was available.
You're right, it appears I have the latest from Verizon.
I thought the newer versions I must have imagined (or maybe other carriers released) would solve all my stock HTC 10 woes.
I sincerely apologize to the forum for my version oversight. I expected to have another OTA by now, restoring my confidence in my flagship phone's ability to function as one would expect.
Don't go by software version numbers for OTA's; the numbers are for internal control, not external tracking. Currently the Verizon 10 is on 1.19.605.22. The 605 means Verizon (Spring is 651). The Unlocked and I believe possibly the Sprint versions are at 1.80 or something. As a sometimes software and hardware tester for HTC I can assure you, the numbers don't mean anything. I see issues with my later test builds that I never see on my retail handset, and the OTA's don't come down until the carriers have approved them, long after HTC is done building and testing.

I appreciate your advisement.
Why am I not surprised that carriers drag their feet to push valuable updates while urgently putting more bloatware and spyware on my phone...

Every Verizon 10 owner, whether rooted or not, should go into Settings--> App Manager and DISABLE DTIgnite. It's nothing but a bloatware engine. Disable it, remove whatever bloatware you can (or disable it) and you will be rid of it. I disable: Verizon Cloud; Verizon Navigation; CallerID and DTIgnite. I confess, I prefer Messages+ over the default messaging app.

Already annihilated DTIgnite in every way I could find. Man, it was stubborn! I've disabled all Verizon apps except "My Verizon Mobile", instead stripping it of every permission.
I use Signal as my default messaging app, as recommended by Edward Snowden himself! lol
I literally ripped out every bit of software I don't use/need. The default mail app, Zoe, NFL Mobile, Visual Voicemail, all the Amazon apps, the list goes on. Battery has been so poor, however, I thought maybe I broke it.
I unplugged 40 minutes ago and i went from 100% to 94% in that time.
Any idea what app populates /data/system/dropbox ? i found files there logging practically all usage. i have since emptied the folder and changed its permissions so that "system" user no longer had access.
adding that my remedy seems to have worked, and no weird errors have presented themselves

Well, I'd like to actually use the phone, so I don't go quite so far. Zoe I keep active, My Verizon I keep to monitor data usage, Visual Voicemail is now free and actually useful; Amazon apps are definite battery sucks but can be tamed. I didn't to into the way you can fix permissions using App Manager....that was not the point of the earlier post. I'm relatively content with my battery life, but I also run a custom kernel.

I didn't know you could have a custom kernel on stock ROM.
I'm patiently waiting for CM13. A thread was created to promote its development http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3410009

Sure, why not? If you're bootloader unlocked and rooted, go for it. Elemental X 0.6 is the last version for the current retail firmware. The later version(s), I think it's up to 0.9, are for the 1.8x base. I wouldn't run it on Verizon until post whenever the OTA drops.

I lack a proper education of how the software actually works at that level in a *nix-like environment, especially Android.
I have intermediate experience with *nix. I've set up DHCP servers and Apache servers, SMB servers and proxy servers. I use CLI or GUI, on x86, x64, and RPi (arm). Rarely, if ever, have I required modifying the kernel of an installation. Not since compiling Gentoo completely from source 10 years ago.
I would benefit from a "for dummies" video when it comes to the many aspects of low-level Android customization.

Well, there are plenty of threads on XDA for that. Bottom line is that once the devices are unlockable, some developers like to cook ROMs, others like to do kernels, still others focus on recoveries. If you stick around long enough, you recognize developers who move from device to device the same way users will through time. The developer of Elemental X kernel, @flar2 is a long-time kernel developer who has done solid work in the past, so I have absolute faith in running his kernels on my handset. The Elite kernel developer, @buckmarble, is also a great kernel developer.
I wouldn't presume to write or code myself. The most I ever do is put things in or take them out of custom ROMs before flashing, but lately I have stuck with stock ROMs until devices are "end of life," (which is why I'm running a custom ROM on my One Max, and will soon probably have to flash a custom ROM to my Nexus 7 FHD). And now that you can run Xposed without modifying system, I can do many of the mods that custom ROMs do.
Well, that was easy.
Elemental X 0.06 has been installed.
I'll report back on battery in a little bit.
changing kernels had no effect on the battery drain. still discharging just as quickly.

Resurrection Remix 5.8.2
Samsung Note 8.0 n5110
Beta 6 - RR-N-v5.8.2-20170307-n5110-Official.zip
You've been waiting for it and I must say have all been exceptionally patient.
I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on an n5110 ONLY build of 5.8.2.
I would like a few n5110 volunteers to help beta test for a week or so <NO ETA's>
Plan being to get the current dev build updated with the February security patches when they hit with a view to that being release # 1.
It would be advantageous if you've used RGIB's CM14.1 / LOS.
The current n5110 build is pretty good, about the same quality as Roberto's great CM14.1/LOS.
There are a few minor known issues that are shared with Roberto's rom. Oh and full OMS7 implemented to support Substratum. So themes yay! Plus Pixel launcher.
I'm a bit hesitant to suggest it as a 'daily driver' yet, but it's damn close. I definitely need the viewpoint of a few more eyes to call that one...
So PM me if you want included in the beta group. You would need to setup an AndroidFileHost account and follow buff99.
n5100 and n5120 users... I'm a bit more hesitant this time to make blind builds, so will take my time. If I can find a couple of users of each to work with me pre-testing any builds before release then I'll be a bit keener..
I definitely do not want to release builds with major broken functionality this time.
There will be no more 5.74 builds, it is officially dead.
Thanks and regards to @rgib !
5.8.2 changelog
Current features
Known issues so far / FAQs
During Gapps setup
- The storage option with three stacked drive icons has no explanation text. Inherited from LOS rom.
- Just after entering google account name when restoring apps from google, graphic for next screen button corrupts, also on next page. No other obvious problems. Inherited from LOS rom.
- At end of Gapps setup an error message about MTP host crash occurs. No other obvious problems. Inherited from LOS rom.
General use
- With a substratum theme applied (S.i.X), the root authorisation toast displays too small. This means tick box for always apply cannot be selected. You need to go to advanced Privacy Guard and force Allowed to always have root on your app. Needs tested on other themes. Could be theme issue or Substratum issue with our dpi. Works fine without a theme applied.
- Screen wipes can be a bit flickery sometimes. Inherited from LOS rom. Noticed first use of camera can be flickery but calms down..
- Sometimes you see a line of corruption on left of screen when scrolling if you look really hard.
- I have seen a couple of non-repeatable instances of black screen flashes. An obscure graphics issue or my tablet going bad, not sure (game Unkilled when screen flashes red due to collision, GPS status when calibrating compass).
- Camera pictures (as of beta 3) - camera app allows pictures to be taken with front; allows change to rear and take pictures. THEN swapping back to front will disconnect camera
- Camera video (as of beta 3) - just selecting video will cause camera app to disconnect.
- Open Camera does record video if needed, possibly other 3rd party apps.
- Occasional toast stating MTP has crashed, but file transfer vis MTP not affected. Inherited from LOS.
- USBOTG doesn't appear to work yet.
General FAQs and comments.
- Substratum needs to be installed from Playstore, in case you wonder why it's not there. It's an option.
- Adaway and Kernel Adiutor are no longer included in rom.
- Doze has been working well since Beta 2. It minimises battery usage when tablet is NOT being used.
- Lockscreen current display was fixed in beta 2.
- Netflix playback works from beta 3.
- Use GPS Status to properly test GPS and re-calibrate sensors if needed. Disable wifi and bluetooth scanning in rom settings for accurate results!
If you want to send me a full set of logs for a bug, I recommend using Syslog.

Nice ROM no problems so far everything works great
@Buff99 So far for day 1 of testing everything went smooth as far as flashing goes, I used pico gapps which flashed with no issues. As far as the usual apps I normally use so far are running good but I did notice I lag to the system itself I didn't change as far as any mods I'm using it as is, on a couple of games I notice some frame drops that I didn't have on 6.0.1 it's only day 1 so I wanna let it settle in before I give you a final report. As a whole, though this Rom is awesome other than those couple of issues the battery so far isn't bad at all as well. Great job @Buff99 thanks again for letting test this awesome Rom.
Also is there an option for folders on the pixel launcher? Or should I use Nova? I have Nova Prime. I also don't see an option to add extra desktop pages as well. I wanted to test as is, but I really like my Nova setup. Thanks again for advice or help you give us.

that's some great feedback Phil, thanks.
I wish I could find the link where I read it but Nougat, even more so than before, optimises more as it goes on-the-fly and apps will get quicker the more you use them.
Doze looks like it is working now on next version, so much better battery life when in standby, though I may have slightly broken the compass...

Pixel launcher doesn't have folders or more pages I'm afraid.
I always used to use nova, or more recently new adw2, but I am not missing them and am quite enjoying the basic-ness of pixel and the sliding up and down to open the drawer..
Oh and should have said replacing launcher and using nova is all good and part of normal usage patterns
cheers

Great, I set up Nova & so far I'm loving my tablet all over again lol! I like the cleanliness of Pixel too! Don't get me wrong, but there's something about Nova that I just have to use it lol! So far from what you've said about ver 2 can't wait that build is complete lol! I'm just grateful I have the opportunity to help out. Good night my friend.
Beta 2 is now in download folder RR-N-v5.8.1-20170208-n5110-Official.zip
- lockscreen charging current fixed (shows actual mAmps now)
- Doze seems to now get deep sleep whereas it didn't before
- Tried to fix compass, seems to be in general correct direction but too sensitive (not sure how this compares with LOS rom)
@Buff99 Just wanted to let you know I'll have a report for you in the morning really busy at work. Didn't want you to think I forgot lol! Thanks, bud. So far though really nice especially Doze!
Not that I really believe it....

Hi, I'd love to help with this beta too... I am however using LOS version and can report that the compass seems to work great there, I've tested using google maps, not sure if it's the best way...
would you mind if I join the beta? I've got n5110!
Thank you and keep up the good work!!:highfive::good:
So far so good, with exception of Netflix that is not working. Error 0013. Great job :good:

Fixed for beta 3. Which may escape the test facility later tonight.... LOS security patches have not been released yet.
Anyone tried built in camera? Video seemed to crash for me.
Really interested to hear whether video chat and 3rd party camera apps work OK?

Encryption Unsuccessful.
Hey, @Buff99 I was just about to give you a full report when I went to use my tablet this morning, I had a full-screen warning about encryption unsuccessful & that if I wanted to use my tablet I had to perform a factory reset. So I just went into recovery to do a full wipe 3x & flash everything again. So in the middle of me trying to select the beta v2 my sd card was corrupt as well. SO I had to format the card put everything on it & tried to flash. After all that it still gave me the same warning again! So I had to Odin the original firmware did the whole root process with Odin, then I was able to go back to recovery & flash beta v2 & success lol! The things we go through to be up to date lol! So let me finish my tablet & as soon as I finish setting up my tablet I'll give you a full report bud ok?

Codecs had a re-working to fix netflix, so should be returned to same state RGIB left them in cm13 / RR-M roms.

Woah that's just bad luck on top of bad luck. I've not heard of encryption kicking in like that and it's a bit concerning.
So TWRP said the SD card was corrupt? Try formatting on a pc to see if it concurs.. A corrupt SD card might explain the encryption failing, but not why it started in the first place. I've seen corrupt SD cards fly under the radar. With me I usually hear mp3 files start to sound weird with clicks of digi-noise.
