With the release of the LG V20 just around the corner and it's showing earlier this week, is anyone jumping from the G5 to the V20? I really like the new design and having Android Nougat out of the box. Looks like I'm definitely switching once it releases. What are your thoughts?
I don't really feel the need to. Using android devices since eclair - and the G5 really hits the "sweet spot" as far as hardware/performance is concerned. I don't even mind that root hasn't been achieved for the variant I own. There really isn't anything with v20 that to me, warrants upgrading to it. And we will be getting nougat/7 soon enough. I'll probably be perfectly happy riding out the next two years with the G5.

For the rich guys, they'll probably do. I'm just a college student and got rewarded with this phone because of the honors I got. I'm very happy and satisfied with my G5 and will probably use it for the next 1 1/2 years. The V20 is indeed great, the design is a whole lot better but it doesn't make me regret my G5. The G5 is very good, but LG failed to make more modules. Apart from that, the phone without any modules already works great. I just hope LG will bring Nougat fast.
I don't even find reason to update to v20, G5 is fast smooth with great camera, removable battery, micro SD and will get nougat faster than any other oem.
Tell you the truth I don't find any reason to update to any phone.
I don't really see a reason to upgrade unless it's a bigger screen you want. That alone doesn't really warrant an upgrade (for me anyways). the guy above me said what I have as well, the G5 has hit a sweet spot for me. Although root hasn't been achieved yet for my variant, I still am in love with this phone.
V20 is a G5 with 5,7" and a better audio chip.
Just if you need/want big screen. Otherwise they're pretty much the same phone.
V20 is too wide for me to use single handed and disappointed the battery isnt going to be 4000ma
After having lg g3, g2, and nexus5, I truly miss having root....
I think I will be moving on to one of those refurbished note 7s or just take a oneplus 3 since they both have root and great dev community.
Op3 camera is slightly worse and not sdcard but daytime pix and very close to g5 and with 64gb built in that should be ample to all my needs.
Already posted my g5 on CL.
Very good phone but doesn't fit my needs.
I might, have to see some reviews first and actually hold one. I am with T-Mobile, my phone was a note 5 that had some charging issues. I called to exchange for another and the rep suggested using my score upgrade, getting the g5 and keeping my note, which I did but even with its limited charging ability(only charges wirelessly) I still find myself using the note every couple days. The g5 is just a tad too small for my liking. I think I'll go Nexus or v20, depending on real world impressions. The g5 is nice, nice enough that it will make a great upgrade for my wife coming from the g3.
What is everyone's views about the secondary screen, audio recording enhancements, and the camera/video? Just a gimmick or worth it?

I have, I'm just asking if that would be a factor in people deciding to switch or not.. This is just a open end discussion. I'm currently using the G5 and of course one size doesn't fit all but it's just to share people's opinions so other can make a decision to switch if they feel like they want to upgrade or not
The V20 is basically an oversized G5 with better audio quality.
Same performance,display,camera.....
I haven't really looked into the v20 tbh. I [email protected] g5 The two lg phones I've had were great, and I love them. (G3, G5) Both of mine ran/run hot though. Either I have really bad luck or lg needs to look at their thermal controls. I might move to another device after I pay off my g5, but I'll always hang onto it.

Exactly... and is the Audio quailty worth another £500 on top of what your paying for your G5.... I think not.... However, Im in the UK, so we wont even get to see it.. Unless its imported, but will it support the UKs GSM and UTMS bands
I don't. It's too big for me. And for the music I use iBasso DX80.
The reason of why I chose the G5 over all the available smartphones is because of it's "little" 5.3" screen (+hardware + removable battery + IR Blaster + Dual camera). No thank you I'm not interested in a big 5.9" screen .
External speaker,what about it??

LG G5 is a hot smartphone. its a modern marvel
lg g5 is packed with latest hardware and features. One does not need to move on to upcoming ones without need. see our review on g5. Mathew, choozurmobiledotcom
As these leaks start flowing I'm only getting more and more disappointed in this device. Have really been hoping for 1)A very high end device or 2) An affordable device with flasgship-esue specs. Both of these look like they will not be happening.
- Should be getting the 821 at this point. Yes, it's just an OC'd 820 but it's late in the year. 820 is already months old.
- Waterproofing. This should be standard at this point. Not a huge factor but this is now a premium device, it should have all the features.
- OEM Unlock? With Verizon as a partner as well as the XDA article yesterday on root with multiple partitions, looks like this may not be as easy as before.
- Very bland looking. If I'm going to be paying $700+ for a phone, I want to be proud to show off the design. So far it brings nothing to the table.
In short, this is looking like the exact same specs as the HTC 10/S7 with Pure Google software. The hardware on its own doesn't excite.
Redeeming Areas:
- UFS Storage. Would love the speed and wouldn't mind losing an SD card slot for faster read/write speeds.
- Financing. This would soften the blow of a more expensive phone.
- Quick updates. This is a given and the best part of the phone.
- OEM unlocking. Ensure me that this phone will be the best developer device on the market.
Open to other's thoughts.

1. 5.5 inch screen why go small i love N6 size
2. Bezel is too big looks like apple crap phone
I am agree with All your point, it's true that the Google pixel doesn't have a design to proud off with the price range
I don't feel premium and confident for my daily work especially when I am bored and look to my phone trying to admire the engineer of beauty behind this masterpiece
so far, I don't have good feeling with Google Pixel..
it's like, comparing macbook and chromebook..
Pretty sure it's 821

The pixel phones are ugly. The huge bezel and nav bar will use up like 2cm of space at the bottom. It's clear that they aren't competing with samsung in the design department. Price to performance is also off. The main reason why most people preferred the s7 or note 7 over the oneplus 3 is that it looks better and has a better screen. The only real difference in specs between the pixel (not xl) and the 1+3 is the screen resolution. When we compare the regular pixel phone with the 1+3, it seems to offer even less for the 650$ price tag.
To summarize, why would I buy a big ugly note 7 (the pixel xl) for the same price as the original note 7? Does it make sense to pay $250 more than the 1+3 just to get a pixel phone with stock android?

Right!
I just don't understand why bezels have gotten larger since the Note 3 from Samsung which had amazingly small top/bottom bezels.
AND... phones seem to be getting heavier instead of lighter.
5.5" vs. 5.7" phones and yet the 5.7" phone is smaller and lighter.
Even the Note 4, Note 5 and Note 7 are all taller & heavier than the Note 3.
Qi wireless charging
I want Qi wireless.
1) it's very convenient
2) I have too many 3-coil tilt chargers just to throw away
3) Google's excuse last year for dropping Qi because they included Type C plug was idiotic. It's not either/or Qi or Type C. You can have BOTH, just like the Samsung Note 7. If I don't want to plug my phone in when I get home, then I don't want to plug my phone in. Again, you can have BOTH Qi and Type C in one device.
My LG Nexus 5 had Qi and my current Moto XT1225 has it.
Yet, Google dropped it and now Lenovo/Motorola also dropped it as a built-in function -- making you buy a silly "mod" in their Moto Z series to get Qi wireless charging. I'm NEVER buying any mods or any phone that requires mods. The LG G5 failed spectacularly and I hope the Moto Z does as well.
I've had my current phone since 2014, and I'll buy next year's Samsung Galaxy Edge 8 or something to get Qi if I have to. Samsung is smart enough to realize people still want Qi wireless charging, even if no other manufacturer seems to have a clue.

Because 6" was a huge mistake, if Google was just going to release ONE phone. Even 5.7" is too big for a mainstream phone. That's why Samsung has different sizes for their "flagship" Galaxy 7 (5.1", 5.5") and Note 7 (5.7") series. Samsung realizes just because you want a smaller phone, you still want 1440p AMOLED, and fastest CPU/GPU.
In 2014, Google and Motorola had both 5.2", 1440p, 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 805 gen6 Nexus in testing (benchmarks were leaked) as well as the 5.95" -- and Google went with the WHALE. (Motorola said they cautioned against it, as most people don't want a HUGE phone. Google did it anyway.) Google should have released both sizes, the way Apple released two sizes in 2015. Google could have started the trend!
Instead, Motorola released that 5.2" phone as the "Quark". (Moto XT1225, XT1254, XT1250) 5.2", 1440p AMOLED, Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, 64GB internal memory, Qi wireless, Quick Charge 2.0, 3900 mAh battery, 21MP camera. Kevlar back overlaid with ballistic nylon. It'll stop a bullet for you in a bad neighborhood! :good: I own three Moto XT1225 and run them on AT&T. (LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17) It was basically the 5.2" gen6 Nexus phone Google should have released. Has almost all the specs of the Nexus 6 but a bigger battery: 3900 mAh. Because Google always skimps on Nexus phone batteries.
So in 2015, Google admitted they made a mistake with the too-big Moto Nexus 6 by releasing TWO Nexus phone sizes, 5.7" and 5.2" -- but the smaller one should have had the same specs as the larger one except for display size. Google screwed up again by making the smaller Nexus a "mid-tier" phone. No one wants a mid-tier phone. (My 5.2" Moto XT1225 has 1440p, so screw you Google! I got the gen6 Nexus phone you wouldn't release!) So, in 2015 everyone who wanted a top-tier Nexus phone had to get the 5.7" size. But it's too big for most people. (See Samsung above.)
Now in 2016, Google is downsizing to more mainstream 5.5" for their top tier 1440p phone, as well as a 5.0" 1080p phone. In reality, they should have a 5.2" and 5.7" series (both 1440p!). Or 5.4" and 6" (both 1440p!) No one wants just 5.0" anymore. If it's got slim bezels the smaller one could even be 5.4", and then for the larger you could have a 6" "phablet"

Agreed. bezels are way too big for no reason. If the bezels are that big there should be front facing STEREO speakers attached. See the excellent ZTE Axon 7.
THIS is the phone Google should be making!
ZTE Axon 7
$400 with free shipping in the U.S.
If gold is too flashy for you also comes in a gray/silver look.
5.5", 1440p AMOLED
Fantastic hi-fidelity stereo audio with front facing speakers
20MP rear camera + OIS
8MP selfie camera
Snapdragon 820
4GB RAM
64GB internal memory + microSD slot (128GB cards available)
(In China, there's also a 6GB RAM/128GB internal memory version. )
It is also among the first devices to support "Daydream" -- Google's mobile virtual reality engine.
And yes, I know Google doesn't do microSD cards. I'm just listing the specs of the Axon 7 and wondering why Google can't do SOMETHING as good for the Pixel XL for around the same price? It even uses the SAME 1440p AMOLED display the Pixel XL will have.
$400 for this phone.
Well I purchased the HTC 10 when it was released in April. I knew that the next Nexus (Pixel) was going to be made by HTC. I remember some of the Build quality issues from HTC and the company losing direction. I did not know what to expect. Well the HTC 10 was the best build quality phones that I have ever owned. The HTC 10 I believe is the best phone on the market today. If the pixels are looking almost identical to the 10. I purchased the HTC 10 with the $100 savings if you purchased directly from HTC. $599.00. I sold my HTC on swappa 2 months ago, knowing that the new Nexus (Pixel) would be coming. If it has the sd 821 I will be happy. I am hoping the $649 is for the 32gb Pixel XL ???? The $$$ for the Pixel seems high. Stay tuned. lol
I am thinking really exactly like you.
If it costs 650$ and has only 6 months old technic I wont buy it for this price. This is just overpayed...

Yup, I bought my HTC 10 through Verizon for a relative bargain at $550. However, the LCD (Polarization to be exact) display is what's been turning me off to it coupled with constant software bugs. I continually have to reboot my phone when it gets too taxed with Android Auto...
However, I may just bite the bullet and bootloader unlock it and slap CM on it when it gets stable for my "pure Google" experience.
I'm sure these will be good devices but as you guys mentioned....the price just doesn't quantify the "premium" aspects.

What people have had mixed reviews about is the SOFTWARE, not the hardware. For instance, the EU version has softer audio output than the crisp, clear U.S. version. Yet, this phone has already won awards for its audio.
Who cares about ZTE's OS when Google has their own?
What I am pointing out is the HARDWARE SPECS and the PRICE. This is the type of hardware and price Google should be releasing with their version of Android. Look at those bezels! THIS is what the Pixel XL should be! :good:
Google could buy this from ZTE for $400 -- slap their own software on -- and sell it for $450! I bet ZTE would even give Google a discount for bulk purchase -- like a million devices.
Yes, I totally agree with this. I mean, why shall I pay that much amount of money for something, whose specifications are nearly the same (or even worse) than a smartphone, which got released earlier this year, (S7 and S7 Edge 3/11/16).
I am really hoping for Qualcomm's S821 and a decent quantity of battery. A bad camera or quiet speakers would be a big no-go from my standpoint.
However, I am just agonising my head for random rumours. The 4th will tell me, if it is really worth buying it.
NUTS
What is with these vendors trying to shut down root all together? There is no logical reason to do so, I can't recall who but one provider claimed that rooted phones could jeopradize their entire network, are you serious?? what non-sense.
I was really under the Impression that Google was somewhat pro root, now this, a phone that sounds like it will be nearly impossible to root, or if root is achieved, a process (number of steps involved) that would send even a veteran rooter into a very nervous state of mind fearing a brick at the end of the root attempt.
There are some amazing developers on this site and in all likelyhood root will probably be achieved, but this whole us verses them were in now between developers and Manufacturer's will most likely never end. And it's all completely pointless as a rooted phone could never harm a vendors system.
Finance doesn't really make up for a big increase in the price. There has to be something hidden we haven't seen yet. google can't stand on stage and say "here is our new flagship phone, with the same price and features as a Samsung S7 but 6 months later, with the biggest bezels you will see this year"

No, we have too many 5.5" 1080p slabs. Need more 1440p AMOLED, PLEASE.
It is time for a new phone, my Moto X Style (Pure) on T-Mobile is getting a bit long in the tooth.
1) storage is only 16GB so even with the few apps I use, I have to clear cache to update apps (photos, videos, etc all goto the SD Card)
2) signal is crap at times and call quality suffers
3) Lenorola is starting to slack on Android update time frames, they use to be quick with the last two Moto X and now they are getting behind (even with security updates)
I am on T-Mobile and I mainly do alot of audio (BT), some pictures and video, and the rest is just FB, Email, Text, Web Browsing
My choices are to go with the V20 and root it to get a few apps that I need
or wait and order a Pixel XL (128GB) and ride the google update train again.
I was faced with the same decision.. 16GB is just a non-starter for me, and I couldn't wait for the 128GB version to become available. Also Google's hardware didn't completely impress me.. I picked up the V20 coming from the Note 7.. honestly my plan is to run with it until the Note 8 comes out more than likely. I think the Google phone will have a longer lifespan and obviously quicker updates.. but I needed a phone and couldn't wait for the 128GB version to come out. Also the price difference was pretty significant compared the Verizon's price on the V20.. so that was a factor as well.
Overall the V20 didn't 'wow' me like the Note 7 did.. but its still a very good phone and for the $650 or so I got it for I am happy.. I don't think the Pixel XL would have wowed me either to be honest after having the Note 7 though.
The last LG phone I had was the G4 and that was a bit of a let down.
Since I am on T-Mobile coming from a Moto X Pure (3rd Gen) I won't get any trade in value at all (keeping it as a backup)
It is $30 a month for the V20 on T-Mobile, or I buy the Pixel XL and get $325 in credit over 24 months which will take away some of the hit over time for the Pixel XL
I am leaning to the V20 right now, especially because of how on top of updates LG has appeared to become. I just hate the bloat, hopefully there are good fixes for that or someone later releasing a cleaned up stock rom
I was faced with the same problem
Pick the Pixel for:
- better camera (especially video stabilization)
- fast updates and longer lifespan
- better one-handed usage
- fluid software experience
- looks (subjective I know, but I kinda like it and it has no camera hump)
Lg v20 for:
- removable battery
- better sound experience
- military grade drop protection
- manual camera mode if that's your thing
- expandable storage
- second screen is useful sometimes
I obviously went with the v20. Unlocked bootloader on T-Mobile and root on it fixes some software problems. Although I wouldn't complain if I had went with the Pixel either
I'm currently facing the EXACT dilemma.
After reading your comments, I think I might pick up the T-mobile version of the V20 instead.
Since we still do not have an official V20 root for the Canadian model.
Looks like I am leaning to the V20 as well. Mainly for the camera, screen, audio.
Even if we get a stock cleaned up ROM later then it would be perfectly fine.
Not sure about your options in your part of the world, but here in New Zealand the pixel XL is $1400 while i bought the V20 for $900. So yea, no explanation needed
Pixel is a ugly ass phone.

Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I came from the nexus 6P which I loved to this phone and to honest I love the battery life and everything it has to offer so far. Up in Canada they are offering the B&O H3 headphones plus 200 off which was 799 for the whole package which is a wicked deal
I have the Tmo V20 and I didn't feel like there was much bloat...well compared to AT&T's devices. Coming from the N7 my only gripe is the low light pictures come out gainier than the N7. I hated the edge screen on the N7 but I really dig the second screen on the V20. The screen isn't as saturated as an AMOLED screen, but in everyday use I don't notice it. Done call the V20 ugly, but I honestly love the looks. Of course most people throw a case on their device, so does that even matter?

If you listen to BT audio a lot stop hesitating and go get the LGv20 and grab a pair of BT headphones with Aptx support (lgv20 one of only a couple phones that support it.) I have these and they are awesome.
https://www.amazon.com/Monster-SuperSlim-Bluetooth-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B015EGRK9S
Honestly paying that much for a mere 128 gb is outrageous. For $400-500 like the old Nexus phones... sure I might be convinced to give up the extensive list of V20 features some of which were not even present in the Note 7. I see the Pixel XL like the Android version of the IPhone 7's business model: add a camera that's nice but doesn't blow the others out of the water anymore, give it a short shelf life with limited storage and non-removable battery (so that you MUST upgrade after 12 months), put a lot of emphasis on zippy when the competition are pretty zippy already. Overall a pretty meh exterior design like the V20 and Iphone7. The Note is prettier but that finger print magnet back is a chore and I had enough of TouchWiz lagging down the experience compares to the V20.
I have a YouTube Red account. With a 250 GB Samsung micro SD ($70 eBay) and 64 GB on board I have so much content I don't know what do with.
I picked up two new TVs on black Friday. I use the V20 IR blaster with both. Same for the Kinivo HDMI splitter, no more fumbling with that little easy to lose clicker.
The V20 has Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, which the others don't have, is like one of the best V20 features. I use a 3.0 Anker PowerCore+ 10k mAh power bank ($40 Amazon) with an iOrange-E type C cable and the V20 absolutely flies from 40%-80%.
The second screen is probably the most useful feature I can switch to different songs on Amazon music app, use it as the zoom wheel in video recording, allows for more fluid app switching than interrupting the main screen just to use the multitasking soft button. And the quad DAC actually drives my V-Moda M100s. I wanted to test this against the Note 7 but the Fire Department said no can do homey. And rumor is no more headphone jack on new Samsungs. You'll have to spend $300 on Bluetooth Bose headphones with as good a sound as upper mid tier wired cans.
Honestly...even if V20, Note 7, iphone 7 and Pixel XL were all priced the same it would be a no brainer for me as far as useful features I rely on every day.
For me, it was a price per gb difference, and a looks thing. I came off an S6 Edge, and for me, the Pixel looks like an iPhone minus the home button. Yeah, it's on 7.1, and will get updates sooner (but I'm on Verizon so it's bound to be slower no matter which one). The smaller capacity model would never work for me, I download too many movies and stuff for that. My Edge was 64 and that was a decent balance between saving until I downloaded it off to the computer. Plus I get the expansion slot for more just because you never know. Could care less about the removable battery, but to some it's a plus. The camera seems to be subjective on video reviews, between people that prefer one over the other. I use a DSLR for anything important, so it's not a deal-breaker for me, and it takes pictures just fine for my eyes anyway. I didn't buy it as a camera, I bought it as a phone. And I know the LG G2 I had was rooted pretty quickly if memory serves, and just browsing seems like we've got a good group tackling that now (missed that on my S6). So in the end, the cost savings, and the aesthetics won me over between the two, with everything else basically being a wash either way. Plus, coming from the other phone, every time a gal looks at it, they always seem to say "Wow that's big". Simple pleasures, but it never gets old
By the way, NetFlix now has downloads. As does Amazon video and YouTube Red. I see no win with a phone that kills micro SD.
I bought V20. And I love myself for that decision.

Believe it or not I returned the S8 and got mine. I'm freakin stoked by what LG has to offer. This my 1st non samsung phone and its rooted.
I ended up selling my V20 it was glitch fest everywhere even after several factory resets and the batter drain was bad.....I do miss the extra camera and the DAC but outside of that I love the S8+. This is my first Samsung phone since the note 3.

I am kind of on the same page. I jumped on the v20 from a note 4. My note 4 had less bugs, better battery life, and a better screen. "Auto" picture quality was much better on the note.
Things i will miss about the V20/Pros
~ Full manual camera controls and the wide angle lens
~ DAC
~ Second display
~ Build Quality
~ Removable Battery
***Biggest complaint by far is Battery life.. From my Pokemon Go experience specifically, my Girlfriend has a iPhone 6s. My note 4 battery life was better than hers. My V20 is literally half that of hers now. Same apps installed across both phones. Phone gets HOT.
Hello all.
I got the LG v20 but my wife really wants a new phone.
Should I get the 6gb version for myself or should I get her the 4gb version.
In terms of camera and UI speed. How do you think all compare? Meaning the v20 and both axon phones.
Any other aspects I should be thinking about?
Thank you.
I think the LG V20 is a superior phone to the A2017, but that's normal, it's a phone double the price of the Axon. If you already have that, I don't see a real reason for buying an axon 7. If I were you I'd keep the LG V20 for yourself and ask her what she would use her new phone for. Unless she's someone who really needs the best of the best, loves tinkering with phones and needs all the newest features, I doubt she would be disappointed by, let's say, a nexus 5X...
The Axon camera is no good, really. Much worse than my previous N5X. I doubt the 2GB RAM difference between the two axon versions is noticeable. ATM there's not much use for the Force Touch feature of the most expensive model, as well...

First question is your location. If you are in the USA then the Axon 7 is the way to go. The Chinese and European models seem to have more bugs and less frequent updates. As far as the 4gb or 6gb versions I would have to say the 4gb wins. 99 percent of smartphone users have no use for the extra ram and the other bells and whistles you get with the 6gb version doesn't justify the price increase.
Gotcha .... thank you
The Axon 7 can't compare to the V20, they're not in the same league. You get what you pay for, at least until OnePlus get their act together. The camera specifically is by far the weakest point of the A7. As far as flagship level phones go the camera on the A7 might actually be the worst one around. In anything but straight up brightly lit areas the camera produces garbage. It's utterly useless in low light, forget ever taking a photo at night with it. I'm not sure if the sensor is actually that horrible, or if ZTE's trash tier software is the main culprit.

Yeah you are right. Spend way too much on a phone. Sure beats spending half that on a phone, 150 on a decent camera, and still having 200 or more play with in your wallet. If you hate the axon 7 so much why are you in axon 7 forums?

He already owns the V20, no one is telling him to go out there and buy another one. Just because I own the device doesn't mean I'm going to pretend it's magic and sell false ideas to those asking questions. The camera is flat out the worst of anything out there targeting the flagship level overall.
You people who get angry and defensive over any non-endearing words towards your mega corporation built devices are something else.
First of all, you don't need 6gb ram. I would wait until next gen that uses 830 snapdragon processors, maybe even next after that. Right now it probably only drains more battery.
I only own an axon7 4gb(for less than a week). V20 was my second choice but decided to go with axon 7. The following might be a little biased.
Screen - Axon 7 has better screen. Lg v20 still uses LCD which will have more issues with to much light. You won't find a better screen on any phone within $400. v20 has a bigger screen but that might be an issue for some people
Camera - Axon 7 has a terrible camera. It's not that bad tough. It only suffers in low light scenarios (night time). During day and with manual mode the camera can take decent photos, as well as other phones. It also have problems with focus. A software update might fix all the issue tough. The best camera out there, I think it's on samsung galaxy phones and iphone 7.
Battery - LG has removable battery which was the main reason I considered LG v20. Axon 7 battery is better tough (almost last twice as long according to reviews)
Performance - they should be equal. Lg v20 has 135k score on antutu benchmark. Average axon7 should be on 135k ish as well. On my Chinese axon 7 I got 142k .
Durability - LG v20 is better, but axon 7 is no joke as well. The quality is at least as good as other flagships, if not better
Audio - Both lg v20 and axon7 have the best audio on market. Lg v20 might be better with headphones while axon7 is better with speakers.
As you can't see lg v20 isn't much better even tough double the price. No matter what flagship you buy, there aren't that much differences and there are always compromises.
I chose axon7 because I don't take picture to often and it can still take average-good pictures if i want to.
Something significantly better than both of them would be iphone7 and that is about it.
Something interesting, but not necessarily better is "Xiaomi Mi Mix Mobile Phone Snapdragon 821 6GB RAM 256GB ROM 6.4"Full Screen 2040x1080P FHD Ceramics 4400mAh Battery"
Hmm Ceramic. But was to outside of my price range. Nearly 1k euro.
I am currently using a sprint LG G4 which unfortunately I can't root because of the revision that came preloaded on the warranty replacement of my original that had some sort of bootloop defect that I guess never got a recall. But that's a story best left for another time. Suffice to say that since getting the replacement I have not been completely happy with the G4 any more and get increasingly frustrated with it. Should I replace it with a V20 (price $552 [24 monthly payments of $23)? I mainly play games like simpsons tapped out, avenger's academy, and a few similar games. The rest is your typical productivity use and web browsing. Thanks for any feedback.
so no interest for music whatsover?
in that case, I would say no, you should choose a different phone, depending on your budget, say a samsung s8 if your budget doesn't have a roof, or a g6 if you like Lg... or anything of the kind.
the v20 is a mean beast, I love it, but if you don't care for its hifi dac capabilities, why bother?? you get a sd820 SoC, which is the same you had on the Lg G5... If gaming and browsing is all you do, pick something else.
s8 if you want a sleek device with top tier features, or g6 which you could probably have for the same 550 usd you're willing to spend on the v20. g6's screen is technically improved (ratio is different, so that's something you need to consider), soc is slightly better and more efficient, looks better, better grip, no camera bump.
otherwise if the lack of b20 isn't an issue... mi6 its performance/price ratio is awesome!
bottom line: I'm into music, a lot, and I enjoy the big screen for netflix 1080p, so that's why I love my v20, it was the only possible choice I had. if you don't care about music, I think you'd be better off with some other device
You shouldn't get LG V20 because i don't think LG care about LG V20s software update anymore. So please don't get it. All the other phones are getting Android 7.1.2 we are still stuck in 7.0 .

ehm... just so you know, LG never cared about x.x1 and x.1 updates, so no, 99% we won't see 7.1.2 coming to our phones. but they usually grant 2 major updates, so android O and P should be the ones to keep an eye out for.
The V20 is a great phone and I do not regret picking this phone once the N7 debacle happened. That being said, if music is not a big focus for you, then the world is your oyster. My apprehension for you getting the v20 now is the cost ($23 for 24mos) and the standstill of development. There is not a lot of development for any LG device, but being this is becoming an "older" device, we will start seeing Devs dropping off to work on new projects for new devices. If you want LG, the G6 is a great phone and is $10 less a month on Sprint. Otherwise, the S8 is a hell of a phone for about the same price as the G6.

Yes you should. Lots of folks have gripes (maybe legitimate) but overall the V20 is the fastest and best phone i've ever owned. It's still right up there will phones just coming out. And for audio there's nothing like it. Put Viper on it and you're experiencing music the way it was meant to be.

add ons:
Metal Design (with removable back cover) (military grade protection)
Expandable Storage
Camera (wide angle fun option)
Knock wake / sleep
Removable app drawer
Launcher themes
Fingerprint Scanner (wakes device without pressing)
Android N out of box.
I agree with this list.. I did a ton of research to find a phone that had all the features I wanted... and this one fit almost every bill. I do wish Battery life was a little better.. but QuickCharge is amazing and i could always buy an extra battery to swap in at any time.
Coming from a g4? Absolutely the phone is a beast compared to the g4. The 808 processor is a piece of crap in terms of both performance and thermal.
I would pick the LG v20 if these features are the most important:
- removable battery
- secondary screen
- high quality audio
- want a highly customizable camera experience (lots of options to get that perfect photo)
Yes the processor isn't the fastest of the ones currently available but unless you have both processors in action in front of you you won't notice the difference between them in day to day operations.
The LG v20 is probably going to be the last of the removable battery phones if the preview of the v30 is any indication.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yeah, $400 to $425 with some looking should get you a new V20.

I should add that root is a must given my experience with the G4. The longer development support of roms for whatever device I get the better. Ideally I would only upgrade to a new device about every 5 years. If they could be upgraded internally like PCs can I could get 7-8 years out of them before needing a complete replacement. Also I can't stand laggy software. Currently my experience with the G4 is that several games I play I have to open the recently used apps thing and click clear all so that it doesn't feel like I'm running them on below minimum system requirements. Sometimes it is so bad it's like I'm running the CPU at 200MHz instead of the 1.8GHz.

Budget is flexible. Especially if I can root and there is a lasting development base for updated roms supporting whatever device I get. If this were the case for me with the G4 I'd not even be considering replacement this soon after purchase. But I've not been able to root the G4 because it came preloaded with a not rootable version.

To date I have had samsung devices. The G4 was my first LG device. The reasoning behind getting it rather than another samsung was it looked like samsung was pulling an apple and doing minor hardware bumps and charging a fortune for them compared to the going price of the previous model. My main objection to getting a G6 is that I'm trading off certain things: removable battery, camera quality, sensors, for only CPU GPU and RAM bumps. All in all if I'm going to upgrade I need the new device to improve upon most everything related to how I use it. I don't take a lot of pictures but enough that a dependable well featured camera be in the device.
