Adoptable Storage question - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

I've already configured my Samsung 256gb sdcard as internal storage using adb back on marshmallow. However, because of this method, my internal storage numbers are all out of wack. Everyone is aware of this, I'm sure.
My question is in regards to the nougat update. Did the nougat update bring built-in adoptable storage, or do you still have to take the adb route? There's an option I've never seen before in storage settings. It reads "Format as portable storage". Does this mean that there may be a "Format as internal storage" option? Can someone who has a clean micro sdcard laying around check? If I can set adoptable storage using a built-in OS level function, maybe we could get correct storage numbers?

Samsung couldn't care less about Adoptable Storage. So no, Nougat did not bring it.

I've read on other threads that adoptable storage actually slows the phone down. Is there any truth to that?

I'd guess that depends on the card to some degree
Sent from my Rooted Galaxy S7 EDGE on Android 7.0 Nougat, here's the instructions how to do it!

Galaxy S7 adoptable storage???

So with the new Galaxy I was Bumbed out that marshmallow adoptable storage was not a given out of the box, I at least taught that they would give us the user the option and make things just simple, but that is not the case but with the awesome dev community it was discovered that you could activate adoptable storage. But Their must be something that I am missing so I have a 200gb micro sd and partitioned the whole card for adoptable storage, but then when I start downloading all of my games I was getting the low storage message and the play store would not download because their was not enough storage why when I Have 200gb. Help!!!!
See adb option thread

Encrypt sdcard

I can't find an option to encrypt the SD card. Under Settings->Security->Encryption there is "encrypt phone", but it doesn't seem to affect the SD card. Anyone know how to encrypt the sd card on this device?
Bump
I think that you have to format it as internal storage instead of a external SD.
When formatted as Internal it's encrypted.
BUT SDcard cannot be used in other devices then!
Thanks for the reply coolhead.
That's kind of disappointing. Am i correct that on some devices you can encrypt the SD card while its still external storage? I am almost 100% sure that my HTC M9 would do that.
I don't know it's been a long time for me to own an android device.
So this marshmallow is really new for me.
I just hate the idea that i cannot use the SDCard for apps if i use it as external.
Maybe someone else can answer your question about other devices able to do that.

I don't like not being able to use for apps when its on the external either. I checked on a friends S7, and found directions for doing it on the M9. So you can encrypt sdcard when used as external on other marshallow devices. Foiled by Lenovorola!!
I think encryption is not working in general and there is an issue about it: https://jira.lineageos.org/browse/BUGBASH-253
I am also quite sure that this bug was already in cyanogenmod and also reported there.
This refers to the encryption of the smartphone, not to the encryption of the microSD by adoptable storage.
adoptable storage with encryption working fine on LOS 14.1

Marshmallow Adoptable Storage issue

After employing the tweak to allow adoptable storage after receiving the Marshmallow update I thought I had addressed the problem of running out of space on my 16Gb internal memory device.
The configuration I chose was to split by 128Gb external SD into 64Gb adoptable and 64Gb portable. Thinking that the adoptable would be merged with the existing limited 16Gb I wouldn't have to face the nightmare of space issues whenever I install a new app. At least for a while.
Well it looks to me that the adoptable storage concept doesn't work the way I thought it would. I can move apps to adoptable storage but I could do that already when I just only had portable storage (before this exercise).
Now when I go back on all the apps that I had thought I moved to adoptable storage it now tells me it's in portable storage (external storage device) instead. I thought that's weird. So when I tried to move it from portable to adoptable it does nothing and remains in external storage device. Yet when I inspect what is in the adoptable storage it lists all the apps that I expected. This is very confusing. But what is more frustrating is that I cannot install new apps as my internal memory is almost full and Android appears to be ignoring the existence of the adoptable storage. So unless I delete apps from the internal storage I can't install any new apps which is ridiculous as only 4Gb out of 64Gb adoptable storage has been used.
Am I missing something here?
Use Apps2SD in order to do the split and to move apps. It's the only way that I was able to achieve the proper functionality for a partitioned SD card and move apps entirely on it.

Can you elaborate on this "split"?

The following seems to be your best bet that, apparently, works on the Galaxy S5 Snapdragon devices with MM installed.

I can't actually endorse this since I've never used this myself but, don't be afraid to ask for some member guidance within it too.
Good Luck!

Adoptable storage with Oreo.

Have anyone tried enabling adoptable storage with Android 8 on the G6?
I tried it, which works, but the phone display the wrong storage size. Also when I connect the phone to the PC, it only shows the internal storage with it's original size, not with the sdcard size added.
Also when I try to select Migrate data, the Settings crash. I try copying files to the phone and it only goes to the internal storage.
I don't know if this is something LG don't give a crap about or going out of their way to make it not work so people have to upgrade to larger storage option. I'm inclined to never buy another LG phone if so.

Same problem (the answer of Flashing_Expert is the general procedure to format sd as internal storage but it does not solve the problem)

Custom ROM with adoptable storage for P580?

Hi all, quick question. I previously followed the "adoptable storage patch" instructions on the forum, but am having all sorts of problems with the system still filling up the 16GB of true internal storage (and flashing all sorts of warnings) even though it's got a 256GB card that is supposedly adopted as internal storage.
Question is, do the custom ROMs on the forum include a better implementation of adoptable storage where the system recognizes the entire 256GB+16GB=272GB as internal storage? I'm ready to wipe this thing and start over but not sure I'd be any better off. Thx in advance.
