V20 H990 Single SIM
CAN be Rooted in near future
H990DS Dual SIM
Im not sure in near future
The V10 dual sim (H962) did get root, but to my knowledge, the bootloader never got unlocked. It'll probably be the same situation for the V20.

Seems like not root for us.
The thread does not include the h990.
Bummer.....

Take a look at the message right above, on that thread notice this message.
The more interesting question at this point is bootloader unlock. Given how generalized the Dirty Santa technique is, I'm pretty sure unlocking the H990DS bootloader is merely a matter of a little bit of time.
The lack of a bootloader unlock for the H990 so far is the reason I haven't got one.
The US996 is missing three bands that are used where I live (band 1, 28 and 40). But if the bands can be unlocked I'd consider getting one.

H990TR ?
Kardeş uzun süredir takip ediyorum bir hareket göremedim TR yi gören cevap vermiyor zaten @ahmetoguz8
Guess it is past time to add a mention on this thread (in case anyone subscribed and didn't notice other threads). Took a while, but root is available for the H990. The major limitation is it requires a publicly known KDZ which is old enough to allow DirtyCOW to inject the unlocked bootloader. H990DS and H990N have been shown to work, though the root isn't 100% stable (there are miscellaneous reports of difficulties and the procedure is complex). This includes bootloader unlock, so you can do pretty much anything you want.
The oldest H990TR KDZ is January 10, which is a few weeks too late. Someone might try it, but I'd give poor odds of success. I'd give good odds if a 10a-10d was known, but no one has pointed towards one.

Yes. The method is quite complex, but does work. There are a few reports of camera difficulty, but most people appear not to have any problems other than the instructions being complex.

I have successfully rooted and everything works except voLTE. So i am trying to flash another Indian firmware via LGUP. So do i need to follow the "Going back to stock:" instruction from the rooting thread ? Or should just flash the firmware via LGUP ?
Copying my question from the n00b thread.
Hi Guys,
I recently got a H990 DS and I'm loving it. I was wondering if root is possible for it? The Android patch level states June 1, 2017 and the build is NRD90M.
Thanks!

And funny enough, you look at the source of the information and an answer is readily available. That build can't be dealt with, but for most H990 devices earlier KDZ files are available, so downgrading the image allows the root process to proceed. Afterwords getting back to a current image isn't yet a science, but is doable.
Does anyone know why the TWRP thread has been locked? I was trying to find out if the lg g6 H870 Dual Sim version was capable of being Rooted.

H870DS? Nope, no root for this model. Only for the European H870.
Regarding the TWRP thread maybe the dev asked to mods to close it as some users had problems, who knows...
Hello Good evening guys,
I just sold my Nexus 6 and looking at LG V20. I usually customize and flash ROMs. I am looking at two different LG V20 models.
1) South Korean F800
2) Unlocked USA models (VS995, US996, H918)
3) Any European model? (Do they have great ROM support?)
I want to make sure that phone is able to unlock bootloader, root, and have great custom ROM support. Which model is best suitable for me?
Thank you and sorry for creating a new thread. I searched info but couldn't find much details.
I believe a big factor is the patch level... right now mine is on 10R which I believe is un-rootable.

H918 would be the best bet. Just patch lvl is what will kill you. Need anything below 10P
Sent from my LG V20 using XDA Labs
Is downgrade possible on F800L April 2017 patch with F800L10y build?
Hi guys, thinking of picking up a V20. Been looking at Chinese phones but keep coming back to the V20. My only concern with it is the carrier check to toggle mobile hotspot. Seems I would need to root to bypass that, and the last phone I rooted was a Note 2 back in the day. I would be using it on cricket, so an AT&T (910) or unlocked (996) variant would be my choice I believe. Anyone give any suggestions or work around besides rooting to get the mobile hotspot to work?

I suggest if you want to root I'd go with the 996, because unless the security patch is 12/16 or earlier you won't be able to root the 910, no kdz available to roll back.
@cnjax While it is true that no KDZ is available for the H910, the H915 KDZ works just fine. The H910 is rootable on the latest (v10t) firmware: link.

Thanks guys, I've found a local person selling a US996 for $200. Gonna go check it out and make sure it looks good. If I get it i'll look into rooting it. So the 996 doesn't matter what security patch it is on correct?

My mistake, based on what I read in the dirty santa thread. Glad you found a work around for later versions.
In the market for a LG V20 in the UK.
Only reasonably priced model I can get my hands on is a AT&T H910.
I have a couple of questions with conflicting answers so thought I'd ask here to get a definite answer.
Can H910 be flashed to another stock from for example H990 ROM?
If not H990 ROM can I flash US996 ROM?
Will flashing US996 ROM unlock Band 20?
Can H910 have Band 20 enabled on Stock/Custom ROM?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure I can answer these satisfactorily but can give some information that might be handy, possibly. I'm using the H910 version on the 3 network here in the UK, signal isn't too bad. Currently running stock 8 with MK Kernel. Ive tried a few Roms; AO, Super, Lighthouse. Might be worth joining the LG V20 Telegram group to get specific answers possible, good luck.
