Hello to all,
I have an issue with my P9 Lite, since some weeks if I use youtube or spotify the process Media Server starts to drain a lot of battery
Normally it is active some minutes.
I tried to uninstall/install the apps, delete cache/data of the 2 apps, I delete all the photos/images in the gallery (to correct some corrupted images), but this not solves. The only solution that I found is just reboot the phone, but it is unconfortable, everytime that I watch a video or listen a song should I reboot the phone?

Love the phone, However I am going crazy after loading my mp3s. About 2 gigs worth. They all freeze about 12 seconds into playing. However if I dig deep with windows media player into files they play fine. Is there an update ?
Thanks
give this a read, Usually connected to a bad file somewhere, or a track (tracks) with odd tags, or v1 tags, or all tracks in one folder
There are several threads, not just the one below that i listed to get you started.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640948
EDIT - also worth letting your phone run through updating all teh album art and what not without disturbing it. connect to wifi, start teh update and leave it till its finished.
EDIT EDIT - heres another thread, same symptoms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616814
still no luck.I did check mp3s, removed album art and any files in folders not music. Let it download album art. Still freezes after a few seconds. this sucks
I'm guessing there is a song with a name that uses a character which is unknown and even if that's not it, then it's still likely it's just one or two files that are causing the problem. You can go through your songs and see if you see any weird (foreign) characters or boxes and if so get rid of them.
The other way:
Move half your songs over to the device, if problem occurs than there is an issue with a file there. Remove second half of what you moved to the card (aka, you should only have first quarter of the songs on your card). Check if error persists, if so continue in said matter. If no error occurred with your first total half of music, add half of the remaining songs (for a total of 3/4 of your music). Continue in that manner until you find the file or files that are causing issues.
Depending on your amount of music this might take a couple minutes, but buy doing half the remaining songs at once, you're going as quickly as possible.
Hope you find the problematic file/files.
Good luck
same ANNOYING problem, on many roms even on my TP2 with leo roms.... freezes and in artist section shows no artist but in all files they are all there. freezes sense whole most times... really annoying. i have 5 gigs of music and im not going through them all so sense music player is happy. i have to use sub par Win media...
Thanks for the help. This is total crap! I thought I had it licked as I deleted all music and playlist from SD card. Then used Media Monday to load about 2gigs of MP3s. checking after each one. The H2 downloaded artwork and was working! Or I thought. I added one more CD and wammo there it was freezing again. So I thought it was that one cd. Deleted it and still freeZing. So I then loaded just that cd after formating again. The CD worked fine on its own. So I then deleted it and loaded everthing again with media monkey. Everything worked.
So I then copied a avi movie to its own folder on SD card. Went to play music and WFT its freezing again. Deleted avi but still freezing. Too late tonight to format and load 2 gigs again. Plus this is crap. Now I have to delte and load everytime I want to put more mp3s on card>?
Plus if I put any video file or any other file it seems to throw it into freezing again. This player is too temprementel. Too many of us having issues with the player. They need to upgrade it to work properly.
Had that problem yesterday after I loaded music several times after finding duplicates (I hate it when I have duplicate songs), so the stock media player kept freezing and not finding all the songs. so I opened Total Commander and went to
\Aplication Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\
and deleted the AudioManager_Eng.vol file there and rebooted, and then went back to the music tab and within a few minutes all my media was loaded, and my freezing problems went away...
I tried deleteing the HTC eng file you mentioned. Soft reboot and then when I go to Music player it searches and still plays a few seconds and white circle spins and then freezes. These MP3s worked and now dont. Just can not figure this out. No duplicate files, No long names. Loaded with mediamonkey. I did not convert to all 192 as I can not find auto convert freature in media monkey gold
I am having the same problem. I downloaded some music and the music player worked fine. then i downloaded some more music and tried to use the player it it freezes my phone and i have to do a battery pull to get back working. I have deleted all my music thinking there was a bad file and even that didn't work. this phone is garbage....i should of stuck with my BlackBerry or got an iPhone....this phone may have a place on Craigslist soon if it doesn't start working right
i'm new to this site & the hd2. i'm having so many issues with some songs "buffering". it didn't start till today & i've had the phone for 2 days now on the 3rd some songs just don't want to work. i haven't downloaded anything new so i'm not sure why this is happening. i was told that there's a free media player that's better then the stock. does anyone have any suggestions on what it may be or where to download a new media player?

Hey circles, welcome
The issue with the stock music player and freezing etc is well known, you'll find at least 6-7 other threads besides this one on the same subject.
There's different things you can try to get around the issue, but none of them work in all cases for everybody, so often the easiest thing to do is just use an aftermarket player to sidestep the issue (which has to do with the HTC player built-in to your interface). One of the most common free alternatives is TCPMP...the newest official versions are paid software now, but there's still previous versions available here, the link below has one of the latest builds:

If I start music up then hit home or back then the task gets killed. I tried a reboot and this sometimes cures the problem, then after a while it comes back.
I also tried killing all processes and this has worked but doesn't every time.
I googled the problem but it only really came up with a thread on this forum for another device. Aldo that user had installed other task managers. My device is only a couple of days old and has just had some apps installed, no hacking or such like.
Any help appreciated.
Hmmm.
I've noticed that the tab comes with 2 apps. Audio Player and Music Player. Music Player works in the background. Audio Player doesn't.
You can also try Winamp. I think that works in the background
Hitting the back button will kill most apps, even those supposed to run in the background. But the music player should run when you hit home. Winamp does run in the background, use it all the time to listen to radio stations.
Thanks guys.
On my UK unbranded sim free Tab I have two music playing apps called "Music Hub" and "Music".
"Music" will in fact run in the background whether you use home or back buttons to leave.
"Music Hub" will not. In fact it will not run unless I have a cellular connection to verify my locale.
Earlier I was sure neither application would run in the background but perhaps I was just tired ?
Anyway...thanks for your attention, now off to research how to remove useless core apps.
Hi guys
I have the same problem, I'm pretty sure that at the beginning music was playing in background when I swiched to another app, now the music stops! I tried different players (winamp, audio player) in my branded "Tim" (italy) tab...
any new ideas or solutions???
Thanks!
I just couldn't sleep so I tried along until I found a solution!
The first time I used my Tab I connected it to my pc using the usb cable, and tranferred the songs as normal files in mass storage device. Everything worked ok and music played in the background..
then I formatted the memory, and today I was testing a new program to send files to my tab without using the usb cable (Wireless File Transfer).
The first problem I noticed was that when I opened "Music" or Winamp the songs weren't recognized, and so I used ES File Explorer to open the directory and launch a song... the second problem was related to the music not playing in background!
The solution is related to the fact that the phone doesn't scan for media when I transfer using wireless... so I downloaded "rescan media" and now everything works GREAT!
I simply launch the application, the phone searches for new files... they are recognized in my music progs and they play in background if I swich app!
I hope this helps!
I have the same Tablet. Have solved the issue. At first I thought I just needed to download Samsung Music. Well that was a start. Don't try and play tracks straight from that app though. Once you have downloaded Samsung Music, then go to the widgets and place Samsung Music on your interface. From there you will be able to listen to music and do other things. My Tablet is called, Galaxy Tab A.
Hi all , the "mediaserver" drains my battery so much , i have searched for the solution but nothing can solve this problem. That was not happening before, as i listen music daily. What is solution for it ??

There is or are corrupt music or video files on the device that force mediascanner too keep scanning because they cannot be recognized or filed.
You could try installing startup manger (or some similar app) to disable mediascanning at boot and Rescan Media Root to enable mediascanning if needed.
Both are in Play.

Check this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050252
It works for me. i'm at 92% battery remaining after 14hrs of standy by (with wifi) now. :good: I've also launched Google Play music and Gallery just to see if it will actually kill it when not in use.
The media server used to take my battery 20% out only after 2-3 hours of stand by.
try it out
Doesn't have any solution ? I have tried delete all my media file (mp3, video, picture,...) and delete all storage but it still scan .When i reboot , it stop scanning but if i take a picture by camera , it scans again
bump

Requirements: Rooted phone WITH init.d support
How to install init.d support
Then use this media_kill zip file and the media server process will be killed every hour (it will not pause music, just kill when there is nothing playing).
And this will solve your problem... I've had it too with corrupt files etc...
Good luck!

Weird. Worked for me.. Do note that it only does this once every hour so you can still have the wakelocks just not as long.
Sorry that was my two cents
Media Scanner drains your battery becasuse youve either just downloaded a photo, copied music onto your device or videos, movies etc. so it keeps trying to scan them and think its corrupt.. kinda
so to overcome this, download this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clypher.mediascanner
what you do is after copying or downloading any media file onto your device, open that app and refresh....
or better still add its widget to your homescreen and just tap.
This way, it refreshes your media library and media scanner wont deplete battery..
OR.. just reboot your phone.. but that app is way better than rebooting your phone all the time you add new media files to it.

did you recently do a backup? back in the day if i made a backup i would see the backup images in google play also ,, of course none played as they were just backups, if this is the case find the folder location of said backup and put the .nomedia file in the folder so the media scanner doesn't include in track listings
I don't have the songs anywhere else, they're just in the music folder
This happened to me too, I was using PowerAmp and Play Music. just deleted the cachè of both and restarted my nexus and it was solved. You should first do a ReScan of your library in your music player, then erase cache if it didn't fix the problem, and finally o another rescan.

I use PowerAmp.
Check your microSD card if that is where your library is.
I haven't had any issues.
try rebooting your phone. I had issues before my replacement that every now and then the android media scanner would stop working and newly added music, ringtones, photos, etc wouldn't show up in the apps or settings until i rebooted the phone. that includes poweramp. it wouldn't' see the new stuff either till reboot. if that's the case maybe a reset would fix the problem. i hadn't had the problem with the replacement phone.

How to know background media files indexing process is complete ? No notifications shown.
I waited for 3 minutes to let that thing happen in background if it's happening at all. I noticed in same settings the data gone up from 0bytes to 15mb and i guess it's done..
Still Poweramp after doing rescan and waited for 20minutes don't really show a change. Songs are seen under all songs. But empty under artist album etc.
Under folder option it shows something else... Attached pics below
Do you see all your albums listed on the LG music player?
