My phone is on 7.0 and it's rooted but there's no Xposed support yet and it was the only way I knew how to block out youtube ads on the app. Has anyone discovered a way to successfully block them out? Bonus points if it can also allow for background play if I back out from it.

I have 2 more questions.
1. Is there an app to check what CPU architecture you are running? (arm32, arm64, x86) Its a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge from AT&T but I'd like to know how to check if I use other Android phones.
2. How can I check if the bootloader on my phone is locked? It has nothing to do with this but I'd like to know how to check this too.
Everytime I attempt to install a .zip from recovery it formats my phone. Is there any other way to avoid this?

Since you are using AT&T I will assume you have a Qualcomm device. You cannot flash zips from the stock recovery, you will need to use an app such as Flashfire to flash zips.

This information is very valuable and I thank you greatly for sharing.
I finally installed that ad-free youtube. The hardest part of that guide was where to place the apk, I had no idea that the internal storage is also treated as the "sd card" so it really threw me for a loop on the correct file path placement.
Thanks for everything.

It would appear that even on the website (which shows At&T blocked apps) that the sideloading wonder machine is gone.
Dang! wish I had got the sideloading machine.
isnt it still available at android central? Those are the guys who wrote it, I thought...
if at was at androidcentral then you would have to sideload it, completely defeating the purpose.
Why don't you just put the .apk on your phone and install it?

that's sideloading. Anything other than a direct market download is sideloading, and blocked by At&T

Yea...that's what I'm saying. Enable side loading it takes like 30 seconds. It's more of a hassle to use wonder machine.

lol....The Side load wondermachine stays on your computer. You download an .APK file oyu want, plug the phone in and it will side load it to your phone for you. You do not place the APK on the phone at all.
There is also a video on how to use the program:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzs_1DeSgWI&feature=player_embedded
Quote from the website:
"Installation:
Unzip the SWM folder to a conveinent place on your Windows computer. The program, and all files inside the SWM folder need to stay together.
You will need to install the USB driver for your model of Android device. Information about this can be had from your carrier, or from your device manufacturer.
Usage:
Ensure that USB debugging is enabled on your Android device. For most devices, this can be found in menu>settings>applications>development
Plug your Android device into a high speed USB port on your computer.
Start the application, and browse to the apk file you would like to install by clicking the "Choose a file" button.
Once you have chosen the apk to install, the "Go" button will be enabled. Click it, and you'll see the command window which prompts you as it installs the file. "

Root the phone. It's completely safe. If you follow DG's instructions on the thread it's pretty much idiot proof too. And then sideloading will be enabled!
edit: a bunch of other things will be enabled too. and he also has an unroot script there for you.
Yeah, I don't really get this. Download SuperOneClick. You can root your phone and enable sideloading all at once. If you ever want to go back SuperOneClick will also unroot your phone as well. There's no danger doing it this way.
SuperOneClick isn't the best way to root and enable your phone. There is an issue with Busybox. Designergears recommends using aroot to root and enable sideloading. If you used SuperOneClick to root...simply unroot it.
I'm afraid I don't know enough about software to use superoneclick and such.

Hey, i think the best way for you is to do it like it says in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=981866
except if you have a bell atrix, i think than youll have to wait a bit so the devs make it for it (im not sure if its a problem tho)
use aroot. I rooted with super one click and also clicked enable outside apps but it didn't work. I then used aroot and everything worked fine.

Seriously, he posts that the SWM is down but I don't think he even knows what the SWM is.
And for everyone telling him to root, transferring files with SWM is so much easier that rooting just for side loading is kind of a waste.
You can also sideload via adb without root.
I've used wonder machine and worked beautifully.
you can always use Droidexplorer or adb
and if you can navigate this website and consciously comprehend what is being discussed (aka process the text on the screen in your mind) you should be able to follow DGs root method

A simplified answer:
Google changed the permissions of third party apps regarding external storage due to security concerns.
In KitKat third part apps aren't able to read/write to sdcard unless the apps are updated and they generate a folder separately for that app. Even then they only have access to that folder and no other. System apps will still be able to read and write so stuff like My Files from Samsung still has full control.
This is what it means in a nutshell.

So things like downloading a ringtone from the web browser or using my otg cable or using a torrent client will not be affected? I also noticed that in application manager if I click on some of the apps it shows the move to sd card as greyed out and others it shows it as highlighted is this normal? And also I noticed that when I go into my sd card the folders for a lot of my apps are there but the size of my card for storage amount has not dropped is this normal and does it really affect the average joe who's not big into tinkering with Android os?

The torrent client and browser will need to be updated if they aren't already or you can use the stock (system app) browser. But no, basically those things will not be affected and should work just fine.

Ok dudes I will just go about using it like as per usual. Thanks for the help guys!
If you have rooted your note 3 then it is possible to modify a system file to give all non system apps that for example you have downloaded from play store to behave as they would before kit kat changed write permission.
See this post for details of how to edit the file to allow apps to be able to write to your sd card.
Fairly easy to do, just have to use any file editor to add a single line in a system file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51036231&postcount=482
Alternatively someone has posted that they have written an app to do this on play store.
I can't find link to this at the moment.
Will edit this post If I find the post.

Hope I find an answer to my problem, so I'll be as quick as I can.
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S4 on Kitkat 4.4.2, International Exynos Octa core version.
My problem is that, after I have installed Switchr and Clean Master, and whenever I perform a "deletion" of junk files on Clean Master-which includes four main categories: 1-Memory boost
2-Cache junk
3-Residual junk files
4-Obsolete APKs -
I get the root permissions for apps forgotten in SuperSu -so apps need to be granted root access again- and the Switchr edge trigger gone -the latter is restored once I open Switchr, so I was wondering where the problem is. My guess is that the problem resides in "memory boost" section, but that means I'm not performing any other memory boosting in order too keep my apps' preferences.
Do you have a solution for me? Or an alternative to Clean Master that'll relieve me from this issue?
Thanks in advance.

hi mate,
let us know what you find out
Though it has been answered, I found the answer a little hard to find, so I thought I'd add this. I just installed the New Zealand version of MM on my T810 and to root it I used Odin to flash the CF-Auto-Root found here. Though is indicates it's for 5.0.1 it worked on 6.0.1. Had to install TWRP again through Odin as this reset "recovery". Now I have both root and TWRP with MM on my T810 and 5g wifi is seeing the U.S. channels.
All that is required is to flash the latest supersu with twrp.

Just googled "latest supersu". There were so many different links I couldn't count them all. Would it be asking too much that when you give advice like that that you actually give a link to the "latest supersu"?

If I use "Odin to flash the CF-Auto-Root" will I lose all my apps and settings? I just updated to 6.0.1 mm with odin but now need to root.
Update: Nothing was lost!
Hi guys
I've just dit it but the result is not complete root. I can grant root acces to apps when supersu asks for it but this acces is not complete, even though it's supposed to. For example, any app can read wifi passwords right, even with permissions granted. Or another one, Solid Explorer can write on any folder on the sd card but Opera can't download to sd card... I guess it will be fixed sometime...
Thx anyway to anyone involved

That's nothing to do with root, those are app permission issues.
Those apps need to ask and be granted permission to write to storage.
If they don't request permission they won't get it, that's how mm works.
Apps that don't request aren't mm compatible.

I don't mean supersu permissions.
Normal apps that want to write to storage will need permission to do so.
Go to app manager and look at the permissions for any app.

That's right. My mistake. The correct wifi passwords are hidden by Samsung. Opera though has the permission enabled but still can't write on th sd, I've just told them, let's see if they can do something about it. Thx ashyx
Hello everyone, this is the updated version of this guide. Most will stay the same as in the old guide but there will be a few crucial changes, both good and bad, so choose for yourself (you can always follow the original old guide here). Anyways, the major "update" to the guide will point you to install microG services onto your tablet. I'm doing this because I've noticed that it boosts performance and RAM management quite substantially and because I haven't found an active topic about microG on this xda subforum. Anyways, if you don't know what MicroG is, google is your friend and you can learn more here.
So, here are a few pros to using microG:
Better performance
Better battery life
Better RAM management
Also a few cons :
Many google services won't work perfectly (though most are at least usable)
Google Play Games won't work at all
So in order to use MicroG and lineage OS you are going to have to download a special fork of official LOS from here
This is the main difference between the old guide which you can follow and check out here, and the new guide. Also, if you do decide to use this and don't mind giving up Google play games (Youtube, chrome and other stuff works mostly) you shouldn't flash google apps.
Anyways, this update is going to be the most useful to people (like me) who use the tablet mostly for media consumption and some light games.
Also, you are going to have to make a few tweaks inside the ROM to get google apps to work :
Download F-Droid (very useful) and with F-Droid download Yalp Store (this will be your new Google play store)
Download Google contacts sync app
Give every google app you've downloaded all the permissions it needs manually (quite important, do it in settings -> apps -> some google app -> permissions)
Go through MicroG settings app self check tool and get everything to have a tick
That's about it, I found this to really boost my RAM performance to the point that I could have a few lighter apps open and when I would return to Chrome my 4 or 5 tabs would still stay open, though, your results may vary so please state your opinions about this in the comments. Have fun !
(Also, expect another update to this when we get fully functional Oreo, I will try the new Android GO then and report back if it works well)
Note : please don't hold me responsible if you brick your tablet or lose your data. Like with every other tech related guide, do your own bit of research before jumping into the guide. Blindly following this should work but if you want to lower the chances of messing something up, do your homework before hand, not after you do something wrong

You don't really get any of the extra features for it but it works. Palm rejection and stuff seems to be a little worse but stock seems to frequently have detection issues with the stylus where I need to turn the screen off/on to continue using it and los seems to be a little better about that.

Hi,
You have to go advanced wipe -> repair or change file system.
Make sure you flashed the multirom twrp (its the one with a dragon or something in its logo).
Also, there are hundreds of video tutorials for changing to f2fs, the procedure is the same on every device, so try making a few google searches if I was not clear enough.

It works on shield k1 (my tablet is k1), and in my experience it helps to come from stock because then you will be on the latest firmware which is good (better charging etc)
I literally came to the forum to do this. I was using the optimized stock ROM and it was just so bad, i think it may have been my adopted storage.
Anyhow installed this and instantly saw a difference.
