I have a Motorola G4 Plus and I am getting ghost touches when I am charging and when I am not charging. It's really irritating and as of right now, I am waiting for my OnePlus One to return so I can use that phone and get a replacement phone (even though it's possible the replacement phone is gonna have the same problem) for this phone. Any temporary fixes besides turning off and on the screen?

This is completely wrong, calibrating your display does nothing as the display (frame?) is storing extra charge from the TurboCharger, resulting in "ghost touches".
Ghost touches shouldn't be an issue with this phone, and if they are, you should definitely take it to Motorola for a replacement.

I would return the Moto G4 for good.. the OnePlus One is a much faster phone, not to mention it has a better development community. Hell, it has a better battery as well.
Save the cash, and purchase a better phone- the OnePlus 3T and Axon 7 would be very good upgrades to the OnePlus One.

And yes **screen callibration** was the term coined by the service center guys. i visited the service center myself.
I believe returning the phone is a 30-day contract otherwise you can't return it passed 30 days, right? I already had it for a few months and this ghost touch started happening for a month. I asked to return it but they said that since I have a warranty on the phone, the only option is to get a replacement phone. I love phones suggestions so it's okay if you do bring them up. Once I RMA my phone and get a replacement phone, I am probably just going to sell it and get a better phone than the OnePlus One and use the OnePlus One as my backup phone just in case there are any issues with the new phone. Anyways, I appreciate all of your suggestions and thank you for all your help.

I have an athene m8. I'm simply stating the facts. The OPO is simply a better phone- more ram, better cpu/gpu/battery, etc.

I never really experienced any problems with the OPO. I dropped the OPO on my school messenger bag once face flat and like the bottom portion was not responding to my touches all of a sudden. Only issue I had and I already sent it in for repairs. I plan on buying the OnePlus 3 or 3t as soon as I get this phone rma, replaced, and sold.
Flashing a custom rom could solve the ghost touching? Do you know?

2 months in, and tmobile is already taking $120 off the retail price. sales must be horrendous
I bought my G4 about 1 month ago and mention this discount to a representative who credited my EIP $60 as as courtesy.
Through my trials and tribulations with the G4 I was able to submit three different rebates for both the extra battery and the 128 SD card and sold them all on eBay for an additional $270 minus fees... So all in all I'm in the G4 for dirt cheap but I'm still not satisfied with this piece of crap phone.

This root less phone is just not worth anything.
BAD ASS NOTE 4 & LG G4
every day I use the phone I find more bugs. I can no longer type fast because it misses so many taps. My phone is froze every morning from the wireless charger, so is my girlfriends. half the time double tapping the volume down won't open the camera. if I get a text my screen will turn on and stay on. it will never turn off until I read the text message. If I have an app up that keeps the screen on and I hit the power button, when I turn the screen back on to check the time it will stay on and never go off, even though still at lock screen. I could go on forever. I bet root would fix 98% of this. I think the worst problem, missed taps, is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed with software or root. I'm afraid the phone is complete ****.
I think everyone that has issues should try one factory reset. I feel like that solved all of my problems. Root would be very nice but not a deal breaker like it used to be for me. Now that I have kids the number one priority for me is the camera, and this is about the best there is.

Root isn't gonna fix any of it. It's not some magic thing that does anything really but make your system partition writable. If you're having all of those issues (and the same to the other people having issues) you've probably just got a bad phone from a bad batch of them. I had to RMA my first one, no further issues. Rather than continuously dump on the phone (which, by the way, I don't particularly care for either, and won't have another LG phone in the future, but my issues aren't with bad hardware/software, mostly company dynamics), try and get it fixed/replaced. Your issues will probably be largely fixed.
The factory reset is also a good idea, and will tend to fix most issues...but in the event it doesn't, simply get it replaced. But honestly the hollering about how bad the phone is...? Overall it's a decent piece of hardware. Not the best, but not the worst by any means. Take matters into your own hands and get the thing fixed/replaced.
I have has two G4 devices, and both have been flawless. I have no tap issues and I'm a fast typer. Then there are the people that have been talking about other bugs. I'm just so happy with my G4. Of course every aspect could be bettered, but that's true with every device. I love the G4 and here in Europe the prices drop on every device sooner or later. Especially in down times where people aren't buying phones. Everyone here is getting ready to go on vacation ...

root will fix most of it what are you talking about. xposed framework will fix almost everything. And I don't continuously dump on the phone, this is a thread about the phone not being that great. If you love it and have no issues go find a new thread. I don't particularly care for your opinion either. I have already had it replaced once. I have every intention on changing it out again, but I'll wait a month or so for them to fix the bugs vs getting another **** phone. I might add that when I spoke to LG they said the Verizon ones are having the most trouble.....and that the only difference was software....so once again I believe root will help.

This thread is about the price cut. OP never mentioned anything about phone being horrible. Keep this stay on topic. Some of us were able to get partial refund. Please don't hijack the topic and steer into wrong subject.

Any other issues that anybody encountered?
Was considering on the 6p or z5 but I'm not liking the fact that on the Sony phones when it get to a certain temp it won't let you operate the camera,it'll either shut down on you while using it or won't let you open the camera app. So now I'm thinking of getting the nexus 6p.
Would like to know some pros and cons on what everyone has on this phone. Thanks

It was a honest question. Hope you get answers you are looking for.
So far for me, the only thing I don't like is not being able to tweak the way Ambient display works. It's only on or off. But I'm nitpicking here and it isn't really even a con, and certainly not a hardware thing.
Otherwise, I've been loving it! I don't believe you'd regret your decision if you choose the 6P.
---------- Post added at 06:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:36 PM ----------
*Additional notes:
- For video: I have taken a few videos with my 6P, and they haven't been jittery and look smooth for a phone camera.
- For battery: I don't know what you classify my daily usage as, but so far, starting with a full charge in the morning, I have not had to charge my phone before bed even once. Most of the time, I have around 50% left when getting ready for bed. If it's more heavy usage, it'll be lower, but still not close to dying. It's a fwiw kind of thing.
- Build quality: No issues here for me so far, although I am using a case. Someone who rolls with a naked 6P could probably give you more pertinent information on that.

You really have nothing to lose. Why don't you just buy it and give it a try? If you don't like it, return it. I think my advise is the best. You can get everyone's response but in the end...your feelings about the phone will determine if you keep it or not.

This is very true. The things one person likes/dislikes about a phone, you may feel differently about. I gave some of my impressions above, but you'll ultimately have to get some hands-on time with it to know for sure.
Yep, buy it, try it, then make your own decision...

Cool! Welcome aboard.
If there is one thing, I really change on the phone is the buttons placement for power and volume. Other than that, this is a solid phone. Yes it does have its own fare share of issues, but most of them will/can be fixed with a software update from google.
Title says it all, do Refurbished 6p's from Google come with new batteries? I did a search on Google but couldn't find too much information.
Thanks,

Based on the refurb I just got, they do not.
However, no issues with early shutdown, battery appears to be in better shape than my old one.
Thanks for the responses. Anyone else have experience with a refurbished 6p? If so, do you think the battery was new?

Nope, they do not all come with new batteries.
I went through 3 reforms.
1st -> Bad screen. Had a band about 1/4 inch at the top that was not responsive.
2nd -> Bad battery and would shut down early
3rd -> The one I have now. Not sure if the battery was replaced, but I don't have issues.

Unless it was refurbished BECAUSE of the battery, it's best to assume that it has the original battery when the device first was made.
Mfgs don't care about their consumers enough to be proactive, unless the battery is busted, there's no reason for them to change it/assume it should be replaced, even when It's a known fact a lot of them have been an issue. Don't fix what's not broken, even though it's very possible it will be eventually.

And I actually just came across this that touches on what we 6p users are going through.
. They cover huawei's actions, and well Chinese companies as a whole. Kinda off topic? But interesting none the less if you are interested in electronics and want to see the perspective of people that actually live in China
havent been on here for awhile but anyways....
So i work at my electronics department at Walmart. beginning of last week we got some new AT&T prepaid phones in for a new mod that we are going to be setting up. well one of the phones was an Huawei Ascend XT2 (H1711). i search, and search for info on this phone and couldn't really find anything about this phone besides being able to download a user guide for this phone.
well i bought one knowing nothing about it what phone, and or chipset it uses etc etc...
To be honest been using it for a day now, and i'm simply amazed of the quality/feel/looks of this phone, and i'm really shocked i can't find anything about this phone anywhere.
have you guys heard anything about this phone?
if this thread is in the wrong place please move it.
I picked one up myself. For my father, but I've been playing with it for the last few days. It's really a decent device..
I haven't been able to find anything on it either.
Thanks for posting about this new phone. I was wondering if there was going to be a successor to the H1611.
How much are the H1711s currently selling for?
freakshow11582, I would recommend pulling your images with the phone IMEI shown and repost them with the IMEI whited out.
I'm not sure I trust CPU-Z as the H1611 is ARM64 and gets reported as ARM architecture by CPU-Z. I'm guessing it's doing the same for the H1711.
Your one image shows 3.76GB free - did you already load up a lot of files into internal storage?
Thanks again for the information and I think this is a perfect place for this thread right now until we see how much interest there is for this model.

I just noticed that the H1711 is smaller at 5.5" vs the 6" H1611.

Will probably be like the H1611. First only Walmart had an overpriced TPU case for $20. Then a few months later other reasonably priced cases showed up for much less. I'd suggest to keep checking eBay.

So people that have bought Ascend XT2 H1711, what do you guys think about it?
Seems like just the two of you have the H1711 here so far.
What other phones did you consider in this price range before deciding on the H1711? People who bought the LG Phoenix 2 got updated from M to N, while our H1611s are still on M.
How do you like N and what phone were you using before?

i went to pick up XT to unlock for my uncle. I was paying for it without even knowing i was getting the 2. Came out to be like 120 something. I told the guy the price said 49.88 and talked to a manager and got the phone for 49.99. Came to find out dang AT&T stopped all the unlocking unless you paid 6months of service. Now, i have a good deal on a phone but cant really use it.
You can still use it on any AT&T based MVNO or AT&T itself. Which carrier were you planning to use?

Loving mine so far, bought 10/13. Only complains are how easy the screen is to smudge and nearly impossible to keep clean. Also since I bought it Ive been laying it camera down on tissues because I don't have a case yet like everyone and don't want to scratch the camera lens. I was wondering if anyone can confirm or verify that the raised ring around the rear camera lens is raised higher than the lens, because to my finger and eye it feels flush, I'm afraid to set it down and scratch the lens.
Also I've messed with just about every setting/option there is on the phone and custom launchers so if anyone has any questions about stuff like that I can probably help.

So I can't find a definitive answer as to wether ghost touches are one of those quirks that I have to deal with on an essential (due to it's crappy panel) or if it's a defect that can (possibly) be addressed with a RMA. Anyone on here have first hand experience on this? Happens to me at least once ever 1 to 2 days.

I am dealing with the same issues on my original unit.
It is a manufacturing fault so just do an RMA, contact Essential and they will send you a replacement after you provide some information to them.
Personally I recorded this happening on my PH-1 display with another phone then uploaded the video to my Gdrive and sent them the link when I created my RMA case. After which they contacted me and asked a few questions. Like whether I have a screen protector on or not, it was happening for me in both cases.
To be honest it's been nothing but pleasure for me to deal with their customer service team, they're great and they seem to he aware of the ghost touch issues.

Would I be able to RMA the phone if I bought it from someone else.
Obviously when I bought the phone it seemed perfect, in fact the ghost touches didn't happen for well over a week but not they seem to be happening more often that not.
Never done an RMA so in aware of the whole process, also in UK.
That's a tough one Primey86, I knew this phone had it's faults before I purchased so I made sure to purchase it through Amazon and sold by Amazon for this very scenario. I'm assuming essential is going to ask me for date & proof of purchase before helping me. Good luck to you.

Would I be able to RMA the phone if I bought it from someone else.

Don't suppose anyone is willing to help a brother out and use their proof of purchase for my phone do they?
Will they having matching IMEI with the receipt?
I really want to keep this phone but the ghost touches drive me insane sometimes lol .

I bought mine from an eBay seller. It was in a brand new unopened box and the seller bought it from Amazon US, so they provided me with an original purchase receipt.
Yes Essential will request it, so I suggest you contact the person you bought it from to see if they don't mind supplying you with their original purchase receipt. Once you get past that stage you should be all good.
I think even if you can't get the original receipt from the seller it's worth a try to ask Essential if they will replace it since it's confirmed to be a hardware issue.

Just an update on the situation.
Doesn't look like essential want anything to do with me despite numerous emails back and forth.
It's a pity that they are well aware of the hardware fault on a batch of essential phones but are not willing to help fix it, shame on them!!
Disappointed would be an understatement as I love the phone, just wish I didn't have these damn ghost touches.
Peace.
I have this issue occasionally. If I just turn the screen off then back on it stops it. I've had my PH-1 for a year now and it happens so infrequently I never bothered to do anything about since I can make it stop just by turning the screen off then on.
Do we know what the manufacturing fault is that causes the ghost touches as I may look to fix this fault myself.
Is it just a dodgy screen panel or something completely different?

I heard someone say somewhere that it's a dodgy ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard. Although I'm not 100% on that.
It still happens on my grey PH1 but only like 1-2 times a day if I'm using it. As soon as I found out about the issue I contacted Essential and they sent me a replacement after going through RMA.

So even though they've replaced your handset the ghost touch still occurs?
Do you think replacing my screen will sort the problem?
I really want to keep this phone but it seems to be getting worse.

They sent me a white Essential phone as a replacement, but I didn't have to send the faulty Halo grey one back because they messed up on the first replacement they sent me which had a stuck pixel on arrival.
You cant replace the screen afaik because there are no spare parts for this phone, the only 2 things you can do is either open a case with Essential and ask that they RMA it. Or just live with the ghost touch issue, if it's not happening that frequently.

I've found some replacement screens on eBay but they're quite expensive that's if the screen isn't the problem towards the ghost touches.
I seem to get more ghost touches when the battery is low, not so much when it's fully charged.

Well they kinda had to be, I provided the original purchase receipt showing the device was bought directly from Amazon US in the summer (by someone else). Also I said the ghost touch issue seems to be well known and documented across the Internet, plus I supplied a short video of showing touches happen while I wasn't interacting with the screen itself. So I kinda put them in a position where they couldn't say no.
Personally I wouldn't advise to replace the screen yourself, you're likely to do more harm than good, but it's up to you. There's a reason the Essential phone was given a score of 1 on the iFixIt website lol
