I was on b15 wanted to go to the new b19 7.1.1. I was rooted with TWRP with an unlocked bootloader. The easiest method I found was to use the Axon 7 toolkit and use miflash to flash stock b15 and had the option at the bottom to keep user data. It flashed and I booted it up all my apps and data was still there. I proceeded to take the b19 update and reboot. Everything ran fine so I reran the toolkit to flash back TWRP and rerooted....Mission accomplished.

I just got a new Nexus 7 (2013). I did all the OTA updates until I got on the latest 5.1.1 (LMY48G). I was able to unlock bootloader using Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit. I then tried rooting using the same tool but the process would freeze once it reached the step of temporarily booting TWRP. The window timed out while waiting for device. The tablet did boot to TWRP recovery. However, when I went to reboot to system from TWRP, I got a message saying No OS installed. I was able to reboot back to system despite the message.
At this point, I used Wug's tool to Flash Stock + Unroot. I then tried using CF- Auto Root which worked fine with me. I was now rooted but when flashing to recovery, I got the dead android. I tried downloading TWRP app from Google Store to updated recovery through that method. I did get TWRP flashed but again I still have the No OS Installed message when going to reboot. Finally, I used use Wug's tool to delete TWRP and go back to stock recovery (dead android). Then I tried flashing TWRP through Wug's tool but ended up with same result of getting No OS installed.
Any ideas why I would be getting this message when I am able to reboot back to perfectly working system? Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and been able to get TWRP working correctly?
Hello,
Now before you ask, I've been doing a lot of research though searching threads and post. I'm actually going to post everything I found so far. On my first attempt of getting Marshmallow a few weeks ago, I downloaded the OTA and installed it. BIG mistake as I had TWRP and stock update didn't know what to do. I had to use CLARK to go back to stock then restore my phone back to Lolipop. Then I had to fix my Wifi Issue. After that I started doing a lot of research.
Here's all of my research links:
[FiRMWARE] XT1575 PuRE FiRMWARE aNd STuFF
Already Rooted Moto X Pure 2015 (KitKat) - Upgrade to Marshmallow, How?
Marshmallow and root -pg 2
MXPE on the way. Root after getting M update? (POST #18)
I need some input on people who have already went though this. So, this is what I'm getting:
1) Flash/Update to TWRP twrp-2.8.7.1-clark.img
2) Download "XT1575 stock unrooted TWRP backup" (from the first link). UNZIP THE FILE and place it in the TWRP folder on your phones internal storage.
3) Reboot into Recovery. Backup, then Restore the "XT1575 stock unrooted TWRP backup" image
4) If TWRP ask to install SuperSU, DON'T INSTALL
5) Let the phone boot back up and setup Marshmallow.
NOW, in order to Restore your apps+data with Titanium Backup, your phone has to be rooted. Currently, your phone is not rooted so you have to do the following:
6) Download 2.62 supersu and move it to internal/external SD.
7) Reboot into Twerp.
8) Install 2.62 supersu
9) Reboot
10) Test Titanium Backup and you should be OK.
Now, has anybody used this method or a similar method? I think this is possibly a correct method. Also reading that there's no need to use the seamless root since you can use supersu 2.62.
Personally I would flash the full stock mm firmware in fastboot. Then flash twrp and root. I don't believe your method will update modem.

But if it doesn't update the modem, I could just flash that on there though TWRP right? NON-HLOS.bin?
If I can get some more feetback, it would be great. I'm going to attempt in one more day. If everything goes good, I want to make a quick guide since it's hard to find concrete guides for this situation.
Hi, I have spent about 3-4 hours looking for a way to get my B29 firmware to Nougat.
The only problem is is that the update won't take because im rooted and have TWRP.
My question is what is the easiest and safest way to get my Axon back to full stock rom and recovery so I can then go ahead and download the OTA Nougat Rom? I love this phone and nougat would be killer
do these files help? which ones in which order do I use? i was thinking the B29 to B15 TWRP but I read that there wasn't one made yet.

I was on B29 (actually I had ZAD v3), Rooted and had TWRP installed.....These are the steps I followed. It takes you back to stock B29 with the stock recovery. Then you can take the OTA.
MAKE SURE you follow the first step in RED... Once you booted to TWRP , Tap Mount and Check "Mount, System as Read-only", this is very important ...I skipped that step and my updates kept failing, once I did that it worked.
I'd also recommend a factory reset once the Nougat update completes, or before setting up completely (using the stock recovery)
I had rooted my moto g4 plus 1 year ago and was using lineage OS. And recently I restored back to stock rom. And now the OEM is unlocked but the phone is not showing root access. Is there any issue if I try to root once more by installing elementalx and supersu?
If you restored back to stock ROM via fastboot, then you will not have root - fastbooting a stock ROM will replace your firmware with completely stock (i.e. not modified) files, so no TWRP, no root etc. If you used a TWRP backup then the backup may have been taken before you rooted.
Rooting with ElementalX/SuperSU should be okay if you flashed the stock ROM via fastboot, just be aware that you cannot use OTA updates whilst rooted/with ElementalX/have TWRP.
Also, ensure that you've flashed the latest stock ROM for your device, or used stock Motorola firmware that is as new or newer than the stock firmware that was on your device prior to Lineage OS. Else, if you do take OTA updates, you may hard brick if you flashed old firmware.
Hi all, my phone is still on Nougat with SuperSU (I know, I know) and I want to upgrade to Oreo and also do a clean re-root with Magisk. Can I simply backup what I need, factory reset, take OTA update, and root? Will having TWRP, SuperSU, and the bootloader unlocked have any issues with a factory reset? Thanks.

An unlocked bootloader is no problem for taking OTA, TWRP and SuperSU are definitely.
You've got two ways to upgrade to Oreo:
- Fastboot flash the nougat firmware you're on and apply the OTA updates until you are on Oreo.
- Fastboot flash latest Oreo firmware for your region.
In both cases you will lose your data so back it up before.
After that you have to flash twrp again, decrypt your data partition if you wish to and reroot the phone, I recommend magisk 18.
Thank you, that's very helpful! Literally for no reason other than downloading podcasts my phone rebooted and is now bootlooping, so good timing to get a clean slate going!
