can anyone provide some links or info as to combatibility with this phone, custom roms, maybe some type of upgrade from android 5.1 to 6 marshmellow or whatever it is, hard to find proper info about this particular phone, it's rooted with supersu, tried installing custom recovery, cwm, twrp, rom manager, its not flashing, not really sure about what i'm doing there, any help would be great

1. Install acer recovery installer from market. This apk is free.
2. Keep with you the .zip or .image file of recovery which you want to install and place it in sd card.
3. Run the apk and select install from sd card.
4. If apk do not detect .zip file in your sd card than extract recovery.image from that file and store it in sd card.

You can get custom recovery files from tegraowners.com or any other custom recovery in development section.

The real answer is if you have ICS, to install a custom recover or custom kernel you must have an unlocked bootloader.
The following resources are related to the new bootloader, a quick read of the OPs of the first two are highly recommended, even if you install with the third link. (This is to have a highlevel idea of what you are changing on your device, as it will help you find what you need to look closer at in future if something goes wrong, or possibly prevent a problem in the first case)
bootloader thread
civato's guide
Afterota tool (windows users bootloader install tool)
If you already have the unlocked bootloader installed, but can't boot into recovery:
This is likely because you have a stock ICS rom overwritting recovery with the stock recovery in every boot; either use fastboot or (if you have root) a program such as acer recovery installer to force the install of a recovery and immediately reboot into it. (Most bootloader installers will also install a recovery that you can immediately boot into)
Once in recovery you can backup/restore/or install a rom modified to prevent the overwrite of recovery. (More advanced users can stop this from adb by removing some files)
Personally I use a lightly modified version of the stock rom you are using now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661492
it ought to be safe to do a no wipe update to that and receive a more expected environment with a custom recovery, optional custom OC kernel, and busybox support.
However if you explore the dev section, many other (both more and less modified) versions of ICS roms exist. Themed and otherwise. So feel free to explore.

Has a method for rooting the zc551kl been made available?
Why is it taking so long? Is it because there is no bootloader unlock available yet? I've tried kingroot, TWRP, SRSroot, damn I think I've tried them all. Can someone help me?
No BL unlock, no root. It's that simple.

OK, Here we go; You downloaded bootloader unlock tool from Asus and want to root: https://www.asus.com/us/Phone/ZenFone-3-Laser-ZC551KL/HelpDesk_Download/
FILES TO DOWNLOAD:
-First you need to download the unofficial TWRP that works for this phone (twrp-3.1.1-unofficial): https://depositfiles.com/files/ux8w5thp6
-Second, you need superSU file (Many thanks and credits to @mauam for the links): https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/v2-64-2-66-supersu-mode-t3286120
-Third, if supersu doesn't work, you need Magisk v.15.3 (Lots of thanks and credits to @topjohnwu for providing us with these tools): https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
-Fourth, download ADB drivers and install them in your PC: https://gsmusbdriver.com/asus-zenfone-3-laser-zc551kl
-Again many thanks and credits to @Gt5228 for the original helpful "Idiots Guide" of how to root ZC551KL. If you have issues, follow this thread for info, links and solutions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/how-to-root-zenfone-3-laser-zc551kl-t3502606/page5
NOTE: For some phones, superSU doesn't work. I run Android Nougat 7.1.1 stock on ZC551KL, and using superSU soft bricked my phone. I had to flash the stock again and try Magisk instead supersu, which worked. Others used successfully another version of SU, so please read the original thread before you start if you still have questions. I am not responsible for bricking your phone or any other issue you may encounter. Just to be safe, make sure you backed up your device, and have access to the original firmware file just in case you need to flash it again.
HOW TO:
-Install adb drivers;
-Enable debugging on your phone;
-Copy "twrp-3.1.1.unofficial.img" on your installed ADB folder (PC);
-Copy "Magisk-v15.3" or "superSU" on your phone's SD Card;
-Go in adb folder where your files are and pressing and holding "Shift" right click on nothing inside your folder and choose "Open command prompt here"
-With your phone still on and connected to PC, type "adb devices" You should see a serial number, that means your phone is connected via adb and you are good to go;
-Next, type "adb reboot bootloader"
-Once in bootloader type: "fastboot flash recovery <file name>.img (fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1.unofficial.img);
-After Flashing, DO NOT REBOOT YOUR PHONE INTO SYSTEM!!! Reboot into Recovery!
-Using vol up/down choose Recovery and wait to reboot on TWRP. You'll be asked for your pin if you have one;
-In TWRP (Recovery) press "INSTALL" from main menu and navigate to your saved file on SD Card (superSU or Magisk) and select it;
-After the installation, clean cache and restart. Now your phone has TWRP recovery and is rooted. Enjoy.
This is not entirely my work, all i did was just collecting information and links from web and put them here together.
P.S. I used Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits, USB 2.0 port.

About custom roms, at this time there's absolutely none ported for ZenFone 3 Laser. I've been looking for weeks now, here on xda and everywhere else and found none to 0... No CM, no AOSP, no Lineage, no Viper OS, no nothing... disappointing, as there's lots of ZC551KL users waiting. As posted here, twrp, bootloader unlocking and rooting is possible, but beside the privacy apps we can install over root, we still have to live with all this blootware on Asus Zenfones. We'll get the Oreo update in August though, if that makes you feel better...
And here is the thread for How to download and install Xposed Framework. Must read as there's a different solutions for everyone. Works for my device. All thanks to @topjohnwu , @rovo89 , @wanam : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-systemless-xposed-t3388268

Hey so i just got this second handed phone huawei nova plus chinese version , but i dont get use to with emui and the os still stuck at marshmallow no update firmware available . so i decided to install a custom rom on this device , i already tried unlock bootloader with dc unlocker (since official huawei wubsite doesnt support unlockbootloader anymore). and then flash twrp , and then i just realise there is no custom rom available for this phone . ive tried to flash los 15 , 14.1 it's stuck at bootloop so i looked up in intenet to unbrick phone ,the tutorial suggest flashing a stock rom with download mode which required me to change the custom recovery to stock recovery (theres no other way using twrp , or fasboot mode , e recovery doesnt work for me), so i flash the recovery with fastboot from huaweiupdateextractor and it went back stock , but then when i tried to install stock rom with download mode it stuck at 5% and the update fails , this is because the rom is not compatible with my device .
heres my problem:
-i already wipe data and there is no rom installed
-i forgot my build number device , all i know it was bought at china 4/64 and the back of the phone say huawei mla-al10 c3874XXXXXXXXX532 (i dont know what this is, im afraid this is a private information) and the model is huawei maimang 5
-i look up in other forum someone also had trouble with his/her device which same as mine(bought from china with 4/64 variant) and he/she say its build number at the forum MLA-AL10C00B159 , i searched for the rom there is no full ota rom available ,only ota (ota file is only 300mb the full ota file is around 2gb)
and I need help for :
does anybody know what is my build number and what is the correct rom to flash and the file
my second option is flashing back recovery with twrp and i need ANY custom rom that compatible with my device
sorry for my english hope someone could find me the solution thanks

Hey guys, how are you? So, let me explain my situation - I have a Redmi 7A (the 16 GB version) and I recently unlocked its bootloader to root, and uninstall some bloatwares ...... I managed to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery, but I was unable to root, and i tried in a lot of ways, in a lot of times........... I'm on version 11.0.6 of MIUI, and I saw that some users here were having problems with this version too. Anyway, recently a MIUI update came out, and soon it will update to MIUI 12, but I'm not able to install the OTA update, after the phone restarts, it goes to TWRP recovery and shows an error message - so, I would like to go back to my original recovery and re-lock my bootloader, but for that I need the original recovery of the Redmi 7A, and I can't find it anywhere........
Someone here have this original recovery available to send or do upload? It would help me a lot! Thanks

Soo... I have problem too with root and I make temp root (unsafe method) . Patching boot img is idiot idea now , same as re-lock bootloader . I'm DEV and i'm know (look on my threads if you don't think). Better idea for you is download global rom or rom designed for your region . Actually i wipe my global rom and I install rom with android 10 . I have english only without polish support . All rom's is here : https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/pine/ If you want to unbrick your device , download correct rom , and flash . For your bricked device is only fastboot rom for unbrick . In google you find how to install adb and fastboot drivers , disable check signatures of drivers in your windows , adb and fastboot exe file (if you have windows as me) etc. . Good luck . Disclaimer: After re-lock bootloader , your software and data be bricked , you must flash all with data too . Make copy of data to google or sd card
