Do not debloat new Nougat version - Galaxy S6 General

Just as a reminder, i updated to Nougat, and at first try i uninstalled around 10 apps, and after rebooting the system, bootloop occured.
So i reflashed nougat, and this time i decided to just uninstall few apps, like excel and gearmanager, and after restart again same exact bootloop.
At least before debloating consided a nandroid backup.

I extremely debloated and the rom works perfect

I am pretty sure there will be a lot of them that will get the bootloop as i did, so i wrote this just to let people know what happened to me, so that they at least make an nandroid backup.

I almost debloated everything and it works fine.
Please check your firmware...

Omg you are such a moron.
Did you read the OP, i said that after i reflashed that i only removed couple of microsoft apps just to be sure it wasn't because i removed critic app.
And exact same thing, next time read the op

Why not keep it friendly? Calling people moron won't make your good intentions work out well.
I also believe deleting non important apps could cause a bootloop. Something else must be wrong I guess.
Which firmware nr are u using?

I couldn't help myself, i explained well in OP that i tried two times, and he tells me not to be stupid and teaches me what to do..
Anyway i am using G920F France version

Just freezing/disabling normally won't do any harm as long as it's bloatware.
But uninstalling system Software on a stock rom will most likely cause errors even if it's only a minor system app.
So it is freezing/disabling apps or uninstalling the bloatwares that is causing the bootloop?
btw hot profile pic

No, you deleted required apps to get that.
It's not by removing Microsoft Apps then you can get a boot loop (btw you don't need to remove them, just disable them though settings -_-)

I'll pm the mod to close this.
I am not an idiot, that is why i double checked, when reflashed i again uninstalled microsfr apps and few gear apps. And restarted, again bootloop.
I just wrote this to let other people know this, so they don't have to go trough same as i did.
I did not post this so you can tell me that i can disable them... (-_-)

Dude we must debloat this weak rom I debloated it and it works but still bad rom it suck lag and speed WiFi battery...its suck before debloated and after...its just weak rom...

Thread closed at OP request.

You probably shouldn't delete stuff from /system after OTA...

Just my $0.02
I don't necessarily think it is a good idea to delete stuff from /system after applying the OTA. From what I understand, there is no (known) way to revert to the original firmware, and if you happen to delete something on /system POST-OTA, there is a very good chance that you will not be able to apply future updates, due to the recovery not finding the file(s) necessary to patch. Same issue people who deleted Google Goggles had prior to this OTA, however, in this case, we did have the escape route of flashing the stock firmware, then applying the OTA...
Best bet at the moment:
Temp-root via VISIONary, fire up adb shell or a terminal:
Code:
# pm disable [i]package_name[/i]
Or use the "freeze" function in Titanium Backup.
Thanks, rmk40!
yea thats what i was thinking also. paulobrien made a theard about titanium removing apps from /system but how would your be able to revert in case of an update?
I dont think you can because we cant downgrade
I agree.
Besides, using "pm disable <package_name>" via adb shell is just as effective as removing any app, without any of the risks.
its easy to revert back to stock... so its not really a big deal, I removed a Sh1t load of apps I don't use and will continue to mod anything electronic i own.. its called customizing and modification which this forum seems to be mainly for.. but u'd def make a good htc rep.

it was easy to revert....THIS TIME. from what i can gather, the g2 isnt able to be downgraded. witht he last ota...people flashed the base over to get the apps back to original....but next time you wont be able to flash the same file cuz it'll be considered a downgrade.
i'm definatlely gunna stay clear of /system til the great devs we rely so much upon finally scream victory against HTC/eMMC. then i'll be back to the heavy mods.
the stock rom isnt bad. its vinilla, and the hardware of the g2 makes up for it. everything seems to fly without a hiccup of anykind.

What did you gain from removing them, though?
Nobody is saying you shouldn't remove them because it is naughty or immoral or icky. It's true that we have the capability of removing the apps if we want to, and that is a good thing. But, in practice, this interferes with upgrading when fixes come out and it may be a lot more of a hassle the next time than we saw with this OTA(*). So, for now, until permanent root comes along and we can flash whatever ROM we want, it's not a smart thing to do when there are other ways to achieve the same ends.
It would be one thing if you actually got the space back, but since the pre-installed apps are on a fixed partition that you don't need extra space on, removing them provides no more value than disabling them.
(*) I'd be curious, though, to know if anyone has proven that flashing the original stock system doesn't work after the OTA. As far as I know the Android update mechanism doesn't enforce strictly increasing ROM versions (people were flashing the original G1 ROM after several updates had happened - it was the standard way to root the device). All it would take would be one guinea pig to do the fastboot reflash of the original ROM on top of their OTA'd device to know if it will work.
Minimally, though, having to reflash the original ROM in order to add a patch or update means your phone gets wiped and you have to deal with the hassle of restoring it to working order - hardly a decent tradeoff if disabling the apps does the trick with fewer ramifications...

Being a devil's advocate here - is that really true?
Other Android phones have been able to flash back to prior ROMs in the past (the standard way to root the G1 was to flash one of the original shipped ROMs and it would flash regardless of which version you were on).
Having to flash the original ROM does reset your phone and that, to me, is a more obvious and practical drawback to removing built-in apps, especially if disabling them is just as easy (and you don't get any useable file space back when you remove them anyway).
Someone in the G2-Root channel tried and it failed. The phone checked to see what version it was flashing and if it was older than what is already on it, it will fail.
From what I remember... the hardboot/spl version has to be different (older) in order for it to fail... of course this is speculation.
In fact the hardboot version hasn't changed so it should revert. Weird that it failed... I don't understand why it would.
After applying the OTA manually, I just tried to flash back to the pre-OTA stock using fastboot.
I get an error:
FAILED (remote: 43 main version check fail)
**** lol. I've already used titanium backup to remove that damn photobucket app that kept posting notifications on why I should use their crappy service. Any hope for me?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
the truth is, in 6 months there will be a better phone... and ill end up getting it.. and if worse comes to worse, i can pan up $130 for a new g2...
i had to do alot of my **** to my phone inorder to apply the ota update.... i wil not remove one app of the phone until its rooted
I don't think it will come to that. I am currently trying to re-apply to OTA to see if it will just reinstall the missing apps and get it back to where it was.
If that doesn't work, I'll wipe through recovery, and then apply the OTA.
After that, though, I'll wait until someone smarter does something about it.
Will post results in a few.
EDIT: The OTA applied just fine, but the missing apps were not restored. Hopefully, since the OTA applied, even with missing apps, future OTAs will also apply.
Another solution would be for someone to extract the ROM and apply the full ROM, as opposed to just the OTA patch.
Already tried. You can't use hboot to go back to 1.19, you can't you fastboot-windows, and factory restore just deletes your data XD
Looks like I'm totally screwed. I hope paul (or anyone for that matter) finds a solution. I really don't want to be stuck with a phone that can't update, all because T-Mobile decided that they really liked photobucket.

i'm super confused with this thread. how could you have deleted a program from /system when we dont have full root yet? just powering down the device and powering it back on would essentially re-install that app would it not? unless you applied the ota before rebooting your phone in which case i dont know what would happen, but if you shut down your phone and power it back on on the original firmware, all modifications to /system should be undone. so after a reboot, applying the ota shouldnt be a problem
*sigh* You CAN make modifications to /system. There's no "restore" that happens on reboot, it's just that it appears r/w to android and android caches the writes to /system.
You can delete files(and apps obviously) from /system by telling android to restore off of that file. Here's how the restore process is supposed to work:
Restore recieves the .zip containing firmware
Restore verifies firmware
Restore flashes firmware
Restore deletes old .zip containing firmware
However, if you tell it to restore off of a file that doesn't contain firmware (such as an apk) this happens:
Restore recieves .apk
Restore verifies apk for firmware install
Restore says WTF THIS IS NOT FIRMWARE
Restore deletes the .apk even though the restore didn't work.
And that's how we are able to delete files in /system ^_^

Paul came up with a method that tricks the phone into thinking something is an update.zip, which, when it cannot be applied, is then deleted. It's creative, but many of us jumped the gun, and deleted a bunch of stuff, which me might regret later. See this thread on MoDaCo.
Great, i hope we're not screwed because i deleted a bunch of the bloatwares =/

HELP Recovery doesn't load (is installed) & when it boots up a S.Screen-Loop appairs
Hey
Wow, having a hard time now without my new galaxy s4.
Can't get access the recovery mode anymore and when it boots up, a screen of death appairs in a very strange way.
It seems that a script, can't load properly, because I deactivated something, that's why it allways resets itself after it's finished to display the loading samsung screen again. I can go into the system for 1-5 seconds only, then the loading screen appairs again - all the time.
I allready installed everything and it worked fine, with wanamlite rom and phil'z cwm.
But I did some security finetuning, removing (mostly freezing, but then uninstalling) lots of the bloat and spying system apps... thats why it happened. I know what I was doing, but not exactly (new apk's, new JB). Trial and Error. Allready got the results I wanted, but it wasn't finished and I messed up something.
This is fkn crazy about Android 4, coming from 2.3 - the new smartphones send ALL YOUR PRIVATE DATA EVERYWHERE (google, samsung and LOT's of other companies) in stock and even in all the roms, by default. Even Snapshots and Voice-Recordings in backround. Just go to the Options/Security/Certificated Authorities... or check the triggers with autostarts or just use a taskmanager.... 99,99% of the people aren't even aware of this.
However, I before I go crazy about all this I want to say, that I want to use the phone and all the priviledges and functions of course, but without all the spy****, that is also reducing my batterie like hell. It's not about, that the accu isn't strong enough, but it is used all the time by many different things
Ok now, what can I do ? I have a working cwm backup, but I can't access the recovery anymore!
I have access to the download mode.
I allready tried a different rom (this one) flashed with odin, after it finishes, it loads to recoveryAUTOmode, but after that, the same problem persists.
this one=this version:

because I wanted to use the same version as wanamlite and I don't want 4.3 yet, because of app-compatibility and some more... it's just getting worse, (android 4.4 is reallly ****ed up with wlan-on all the time..rumors..)
My Question to the developers here is exactly does Recovery need to work properly ?? (systemfiles, apk's,scripts)
Why the Samsung-Screen-Bootloop appairs and what script triggers it ?
Tried with ADB-GUI - but it doesn't seem to connect - but testing is needed, didn't try everything yet

You know, I don't have nothing to hide, but I want to have my privacy and freedom anyway - I just want to have a clean, secure Phone as possible and I disable and uninstall everything I don't need and will never use all the bloat ****, also I don't want to send ALL my data to google, samsung and all the other companys and CA's.
If I where a developer I would probably bring out a great, clean and secure rom for everyone, however that isn't wanted by google and the big companys and the nwo agenda.
However, it seem's that allmost no one (developers and users) cares about security and privacy at all.
You can only be secure, if you root your phone and modify alot of settings, triggers and remove lot's of apps (apk's) and use several apps to do so. It normally cost's you hours to get everything in place and more hours to figure out all this stuff... but a very advanced good script, could do all the modifications in seconds. Whatever, that **** is to big for me now, I will get over it... will you get over it ? I would like to join this big elite group, if I could, because they have everything (allmost. Also I don't want to sell my soul... what a dillema
Now seriously please - I really need some help by a pro
Hope you can help me.
I think there is a good solution, it lies in downloadmode and flashing the right thing or using adb the right way.
Ok that's it. thanks for reading.
I wish you a good day and all the best.

Did you just smash your keyboard typing all this? I hope not.. because its quite irritating to see someone oosting such things on a updating guide. You can pm me if u want help. But since u asked here.
Here you go.
Download adonis.pit from my second post
Flash it in odin as pit.
Flash a stock 4.2.2 firmware package
Install whatever recovery you want.
And you are done.
You can go back to recovery.

Ok f*ck that.. lets get a life and just fix the problem
Still the same thing...
I need to clean everything, except my data, like photos and my cwm backup. and to install a clean system.
How can I do this with only download modus avaiable?

[Q] Bluetooth doesn't turn on

Hey guys,
I searched the web already but I can't find a solution. My S5 won't turn bluetooth on anymore. It's rooted but after rootprocess, BT worked fine. I can't remember that I've done something around BT. I've deleted Data and Cache already and rebooted the phone afterwards but still no Bluetooth. I opened Quick Connect and a Toast appeared which said "Bluetooth activated" but there wasn't the logo in the status bar and the icon in the notification center was also grey. Hope that you can help me.

Any solution yet..?
Mine wont turn on still.

Maybe the cause of the problem is that you downloaded an invalid root and it did something to the bluetooth. I highly recommend reflashing a stock rom. See if anything changes. Thank you :victory:

For the gentleman with the stock rom - you can try rebooting into service mode (holding home+volume up and then pressing power) and wipe your cache there - and then try to switch on bluetooth. If that does not work - warranty claim.
As for the rooted phone - you cannot be sure how stable the implementation of bluetooth drivers etc on that rom is. It could have worked at first and later - due to any number of reasons - could stop. I'd really suggest flashing a stock rom and checking - that way you'll be sure the hardware is ok. If not ok - warranty claim.

Yes, it could although that wouldn't be a normal result. But yes, it's possible. Depends on what you did with the Busybox configuration.

Just installed the 1.22.1 version of Busybox with the pro app that's all. Maybe it killed some symlinks.
Well if you practice safe mods.. you'll have made a backup before installing Busybox. So temporarily restore your backup and see if the issue resolves?
If you don't make backups, then you have a lot more work as you have to look for a pattern and /or guess at the cause.
.
I usually always make Nandroid Backups but in this case not. I'm afraid that Busybox will kill my S5 if I deinstall it. What if I flash a Stock Custom rom via CWM? Of course with a full wipe
I doubt Busybox is the cause, but I cannot rule it out. Only because it was a recent change does it move up the suspect list.
Still way too many variables in my mind. I'd probably start by installing a 100% stock firmware temporarily, just for troubleshooting. Confirm that bluetooth works i.e. not a stock issue or hardware failure. Then install your core apps one by one.. see if you can narrow down the conflict fairly rapidly.
But that is hardly the only way to go about it. As you like.. you have to start somewhere and either cull a lot of possibilities or wait for a pattern to emerge. Search the forum too, just in case it's some issue affecting a larger number of people - which might offer more clues.
Good luck.

What LS997-compatible ROM contains *all* working LG Stock Apps?

So the whole reason I rooted this damn phone was to be able to install working stock apps. Not just the Music and Gallery apps either--ALL THE LG APPS. Which LS997-compatible 100%-working ROM can I flash and get them all, if any? I keep hearing one exists, but no one bothers sharing that info and when I search I find nothing.

Im the only person developing a STOCK LS997 rom currently.. It contains the LG base apps and all the removed ones that we didnt get shipped with out model . Includes a ton of extras as well, alternatively we have 3 or 4 aosp roms you can use, but make sure you use twrp and backup your efs before flashing as it tends to jumble your programming up and cause issues. Otherwise you can flash the stock rom the Dev who provided the dirty santa unlock method.
Theres a good bit of info here to locate everything you need to have a awesome experience with the LG V20!

Other than DirtySanta, this is the only other one with LS997 in the title on that page. I'll give it a shot, and thanks for answering.

My link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-ls997-stock-debloated-su-goodies-t3531923
READ THE ENTIRE FIRST 3 POSTS!!! A LOT OF TIME WENT INTO THIS TO CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION!
I also itemized a list of 15 or so mods and add-ons that we can use to increase our enjoyment with perspective links to their home locations and the devs that built and maintain them.

Hey thanks--I was fairly sure this was the ROM in question. Thank you for providing this! I was hesitant to flash because I'm always a little skeptical about the amount of help I'll get should I get stuck. I'm not exactly a noob at this, but I have plenty to learn. It looks like you've done a lot of work to provide a positive experience, so I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I promise to read and re-read the instructions on the first 3 posts, and to NOT bother you with questions that have already been addressed in the thread. . Thanks!!

if you made it through dirty santa the rest should be cake. 99% of the issues i covered for people were
after going to AOSP and not having a backup of their programing info in their efs and having to find a way to
manually go in and fix each fd up piece.
The other is being on older software and downloading a OTA and rebooting with it in your internal storage.
This one causes a endless boot loop into twrp, so be advised to delete the update if your on older software or be prepared to
hit my post # 3 for fixes and be near a pc as you need to fastboot erase the fota and misc directories to resolve the boot loop. A twrp wipe will not fix it and restores etc wont either lol.
Otherwise theres now a lil over 100 pages of chatting and troubleshooting, fixes and things that have gone on, and mostly its all outdated as ive provided the fixes for 99% of everything in the latest version 7.5
Just be prepared to take 15-20 minutes for the phone to boot up the 1st time. My rom is deodexed, and the 1st boot is doing 298 things before you get to the optimization part. There is not boot animations as the phone will always have the static screen issue on reboots so i went ahead a placed a disabled command there to just save time/batt life. The setup wizard is stripped and only there to give you the notice its done booting and time to get to playing around.
Magisk is kinda finicy being its systemless design. It takes some time to get used to it, and be aware that some older apps that dont support exotic root or systemless root may not request root and not fully work. Titanium backup is one i know is getting attacked by googles app scanning and needs to have that turned off before it will work, most of my apps have a option to set "force root" so it asks for a root request regardless if it understands MagiskSu's root methods.
just some food for thought. Hope everything goes well, and there is a ton of people on the forum here that have great knowlege and can help with troubleshooting issues you may have

Yeah, I didn't have many problems there, although I did get stuck in the TWRP loop once.

I am on the ZV3 version of the software. I do have the ZV5 update in my cache folder--are you saying it's a good idea to delete the update.zip file?

Appreciate the heads up. Familiar with the long boot process from DS, lol.

Magisk is a new animal for me, as I've had zero experience with it. I do have Titanium Backup installed, so I'll make a mental note on that.

Mi A1 persist.img - Custom Roms & Mac Change?

So it seems, some custom roms floating around out there can cause the WiFi Mac address to get changed, my understanding it has to do with the persist getting messed up.
There are a few tools floating around on XDA, one is the Persist_Resurrector.
But it's my understanding, if you have not messed with flashing another persist.img, then you are safe, and flashing back at Stock ROM will correct this.
I had one or two custom roms change my wifi mac, not sure which ones now, but I just flashed stock oreo back, and my original mac address is back, so I'm assuming I am all good, and this problem isn't bad, as long as you don't mess with another persist.img, flash stock back and you're golden?
How can I check if my persist partition is ok?
Thanks

I think he post on the wrong thread and ask mod to remove post
For your question I still don't know I'm really happy with stock experience and those persist partition froze me on moving to a custom ROM
But all MiA1 are not the same and yours seems to have survive also they have probably fix this problem on newer custom ROM build

Ok on removed message...
I like the Stock too, I just wish Xiaomi could of put out a ROM, that doesn't have Gapps, and allow the users to pick their own...
I personally don't want anything google on my phone, or as little as can be possibly had...

That would be bizzare if it happened for a AndroidOne phone not to have 'google anything' on the phone.

As long as you have the original Xiaomi WiFi and BT Mac addresses, your persist partition is untouched.

Why not just disable the Gapps you don't want.
I have these apps I don't use frozen (updates removed first):
Google play games
Google play books
Google play movies
Google play music
korean input
indic input
pinyin input
and zhuyin input all disabled.
I don't disable them because I object to Google, I freeze them because I don't want them to update, once updated you have two copies on your device, the outdated original stays in system, the new uses your storage (for an app you don't want).
I have also removed the Xiaomi installed user apps I don't use, feedback, mi store etc

Hey joeyhuab, the persist got messed up, but I had the original WiFi Mac address from my router, LOL...
As far as the BT Mac, well, if the persist is messed up, is it going to change it too?
I figured out how to flash stock rom, using the persist.img with MiFlash tool and got it all working, I guess for now, not sure the BT Mac address was changed or not...
@kudos1uk, yeah titanium is good to freeze apps, I was doing that before in Stock...

You don't need titanium, just disable then in the app manager.

Yes of course the app manager, I just mentioned titanium, I just find it easier to scroll through it, either way works...

Titanium is great but it needs root and I don't know if you can use it without changing the system partition and stopping OTA, app manager is safer as you can't disable important apps by mistake, Google only allow you to disable non critical apps.
I only mention it as you can keep your phone 100% stock without root and disable most Google apps which can be easily turned back on in the future, of course things like Play Store can't be disabled.
Back to the original topic...
So my persist was messed up, and I restored it, but the only way I could figure this is with the image on xiaomifirmware.
https://xiaomifirmware.com/guides-and-tips/restore-persist-partition-xiaomi-mi-a1/
Hopefully this wasn't such a bad move, wifi works, and I see a mac address, but I'm not sure if they are the original, also I can make calls, so not sure if the imei is the original, or the network, just updated the phone to a new iemi.
How can I tell, or is there a way, if I have everything back to original?
Thanks

Is that way considered as flashing another phones persist file that not belong to our phone? Its just because we don't know where that persist (that available there) come from. I don't know for sure so CMIIW. Because i restored my persist by persist resurrector to get my original mac back. I don't wanna wreck my device by flashing another persist file that I don't know where it come from. One more time, correct me if I wrong.

I don't think by flashing with this persist.img we call the phone damaged, just that the mac addresses are changed, maybe the imei too, but I made calls and text ok, so if it changed my imei, the carrier picked it up no problem...
For now, I'm trying to get the phone booted into edl mode, and oh what a PAIN in the, you know what! LOL...
Just a few simple cmds and the hours it seems to take to do things, heck, running Linux is simpler then this, I could of installed several Unix/Linux systems, by the time I have figured this out! LOL
Last go, I installed the 15 Seconds ADB installer by Snoop, and adb devices wouldn't show anything, then I tried the minimal adb setup/installer and same problem. Now I'm going to try the android sdk and install and the platform tools and see if it works this way, mind you, all this time, to make sure everything is clean, I have been constantly wiping out my box, reformatting it, and putting back a clonezilla image I have for Win8.... OH BOY, so much bloody work...
The WHOLE goal here is, that supposedly, you place phone in; fastboot oem edl, have the oreo rawprogram0.xml edited, so it has 'persist.img' in it, then flash with MiFlash and this is suppose to flash the original stock persist.img
BUT, I see that a lot of people are saying the only way to get edl is to open phone, and short out a few connectors on the board, which put's it into edl...
http://en.miui.com/thread-1680467-1-1.html
Also I read, you hold both up/dn vol and power and wait for phone to vibrate twice and this makes edl...
So I've been going to all this trouble to try and run; adb reboot-edl because fastboot oem edl always gives me some failed...
Hmm

if you want to remove the apps, you can use the bat script,no root needed, put in the adb folder and give the necessary permission, run the bat script..mi launcher is disable by default
