Bootloader/Modem? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I'm fairly new here. But here goes.
I have a question, do I need to update my bootloader/modem to use the latest features on custom ROMs? Because my fingerprint sensor keeps on coming up "enrolment failed" on Lineage 14.1, but worked on CM13. If so, how would I go about a bootloader update?
Thanks.

Fingerprint problems after installing Nougat

4 weeks ago I was on a custom rom and wanted to try Stock Nougat Soak test but then I decided to go to a custom rom again. When I installed the Marshmallow custom rom I could add fingerprints from setting and would fail while enrolling fingerprints. Then I asked the Roms thread and the community told me that if you installed Nougat you have to downgrade to mashmallow so I did that and reflashed the custom rom but now I am noticing that the fingerprint is very laggy while enrolling fingerprints. Does any one have this problem with Marshmallow roms after installing Nougat?

I know this was a few days ago, maybe you've already figured it out?
Assuming you've already unlocked your bootloader and installed TWRP (custom recovery), than you can definitely flash Resurrection Remix. Our device codename is "athene" (that includes all variants of the G4 and G4 Plus).
Check out the development section in the G4 Plus forums. There you will find RR for our device and the latest build is 04/26. I've recently updated the OP of the thread with updated links to GApps and such. Also, don't worry about needing to be on stock Nougat as your device doesn't have a fingerprint sensor anyway. Good luck and lemme know if you have any more questions!
nice i have another question
the rom from resurection remix is stable? wich bugs have the last version?

None, it's very stable! They're official builds if that tells you anything. All features work great, even the stock Motorola features like "chop chop" etc. Motorola Camera can be a little tricky as there is a few options, meaning it can be a little confusing for some I think to get installed and working correctly. If you want help with that, lemme know.
Just make sure you take a backup in TWRP before you do anything and you should be fine.
what about
what about battery life vs the stock rom? and i know if i change resoluction from 1080 to 720 i can get more battery life? and the other thing i dont know is wich gapps i should download cuz when i enter in the link there is a diferent version of gapps aroma , aroma 64 etc etc

Your mileage will vary as far as battery usage goes. I don't know about changing your devices resolution from 1080 to 720 (not sure that's possible, but you can change the overall dpi. There are a couple options for doing this within the rom). As far as GApps to choose, in the OP (original post) of the Resurrection Remix thread there are recommended GApps to use. Open GApps is fine too, but just make sure to choose at most the "Mini version" for ARM. Whether you choose an Aroma version is up to you.
Just a word of caution
I have an xt1625 as well and I've tried ressirection remix rom and it runs great....for about 8 hours. Then my cellular data connection dies. I can't figure it out. It happens every time. My cellular data only comes back if I wipe and reinstall. It woks fine on other roms like Invicta os. I have no clue what's up with resurrection.

Nrml flashing couldn't make any problem that to be said from nougat to oreo since for now they have same baseband ver. but for you definitely flash stock rom first(nougat) via adb or twrp both work fine. There is difference between baseband in mm and nouhat and will create problem to you in future

As the post above states ensure you flash the stock nougat ROM before flashing nougat custom ROM. Flash stock nougat, reflash twrp, wipe system, data, cache, ART cache and then flash custom ROM.

Thank you, helps a lot!
As others have said, I would like to say you should update to N. As otherwise you might face a few issues namely baseband and fingerprint. The problem is a big MIGHT but I would recommend updating first

Oreo Update bootloader/Root procedures?

Hi all I'm tempted to update to the official Oreo rom but hear some negative things about it so two questions. If I update can I Root and unlock bootloader the same way as before? Also any improved stock Oreo roms out there? I really wanna try dotOS ROM but don't wanna deal with just one speaker working during calls and all the other issues roms had before the official Oreo roms. Glad to see camera2api has been open. Dying to try some shots with Google camera. Tia.

I have a Moto G4 (Athene). Now that LineageOS has stopped supporting my device?...

... should I continue using LineageOS 14.1 install on my phone, or should I find a new rom? If so, which one....or should I revert back to stock in the meantime? I am looking for some guidance as to what to do from here on.
I think there is an unofficial version of Lineage that is being maintained. Supposedly, the official Oreo update is coming soon so maybe going back to stock may be best.

You are using a nougat based ROM ,I think you should probably go for pie/oero based ROMs in our forums. And if you like it just stick to it, because it is been frequently updated with latest security patches.
PS: But make sure you fulfill all the requirements before flashing it. Because anything can happen, any time
