Nougat has killed ACR on my g4, help - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

The title says it all really I have been using ACR successfully on my Moto G4 while but when I upgraded to Android 7 ACR stopped working and I went on to the ACR forum and was told that Lenovo have blocked all of these programs from this handset. I have looked at regressing back to marshmallow seems very complicated and beyond my technical ability can anybody suggest a way forward. Is it just a matter of time before someone developed a workaround to the Lenovo block or do you guys think this is a permanent problem for the G4?

I wonder if rooting will make it work.

Huawei P8: to Root or not to Root, thats the question

Hi everyone,
Ever since my first Android device one of the first things i did after unboxing was unlock and root
Now with this device i dont see the necessity of rooting it, because everything i needed root for is adjustable.
The only thing i miss it for are the ads in the apps.
Who is gonna convince me to root it?

Just think of: Adaway, Lucky Patcher, Emoji Switcher (if you, like me, hate the Android Emojis)... I have already rooted, and I'm super happy with it
install adguard. with vpn mode it can block adds in apos and browsers without root
i rooted mine but i didnt know about huawei devices, i was used to use cynaogen mods so was thinking i will be able to flash mods and apps there too. As the time showed up, Emui is highly modified android and with most of mods uncompatible , no xposed support, so i dont see much reasons to root device with EMUI yet, but of course, delete all useless google apps is good think
I have root on my p8 because i started using viper4android and I cant listen to music on my phone without viper anymore ^^
So root is a must have for me!
Good thread btw.
I would root it but can't do much with root on P8.
Any good mods working on P8?
I have already tryed the custom rom, but came back to stock
There are some guys working on porting CM to P8, but who knows when will e available.
Maybe OP can do a list in first post with working mods for P8
If someone has good mods for P8 post or pm them and i will put in the first post.

I have rooted mine. It's a fairly straightforward process although different then my previous Samsung devices. Unfortunately there's no Xposed support and even though I have TWRP no ROMs yet :crying:
There is only one custom rom: fRomFuture, based on Lollipop
Thread: http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/huawei-p8-rom-5-0-fromfuture-weeklys-kw02-2016.716941/
How to root this device?
@djg269, same here - no use for root so far since I purchased it in Feb2016, so haven't done it.

Anyone working on a Root?

I see theres but one root thread on this device and even that one is just for beta testing and not stable. Is there anyone working on getting this device rooted?
I haven't tested this so don't take my word on it, but a user on the Moto G4 Plus forums with a XT1622 (normal moto g4) used this guide and rooted their phone. This relies on the G4 Plus build on TWRP working on the G4 which I don't know if it does

I've done it according to the indicated link and it works.
how many new features we can get after root?

Is it worth switching from thea to potter and follow up questions

Hi, potter community,
I've been quite happy with my Moto G 2014 (LTE), however, the battery is slowly dying and 1GB of RAM and the old CPU is no longer a real pleasure. Furthermore, the maintainer has announced that he will no longer support the device and we'll thus most likely never see laos 15.1 (currently 14.1 is officially supported).
I've seen that @vache is building unofficial 14.1 and 15.1 laos (are there efforts to make them official?) and official TWRP support is present as well. Thus:
Is it worth switching to potter - it's currently ~ 240€ on Amazon Germany.
Follow up questions: is magisk working (To my knowledge potter is encrypted, right? Anything to be aware of with that and flashing magisk?)?
Is the xposed framework working on top (I'd stick with 14.1 untill there's an official release for 15)?
Thanks ahead!
If you want official support from the manufacturer, switch to Nokia.

I'm not sure how that relates to my question.
I was asking for official lineageos support which by no mean is a requirement for my decision.

Hi gothicVI - I see you have hundreds of Thanks from helping others on XDA, so please excuse jackass comments by those who don't. It also appears that you did examine the G5 Plus forums before asking your questions.
Yes, Magisk works very well (but not so much SuperSU which I don't use anymore) for both root and addons like Xposed/V4A/etc, the only issue being that on some ROMs a fix/patch is needed in order to pass SafetyNet. By now most ROMs don't need that anymore although the latest LOS 15.1 still does.
Another main issue has been with users going from stock Nougat to 8.1 custom ROMs and then deciding to go back to stock losing their IMEI settings and voLTE capability. You'll see threads about resolving that (backing up/restoring EFS partition, etc) but I think many still lost voLTE even after restoring their IMEI. Not using voLTE myself and not wanting to go back to stock Nougat, I suggest that you do more research on that if you think it could affect you. The hope was/is that this problem would be fixed by the promised official Oreo upgrade for G5 Plus, but now it's unclear if Lenovorola will ever release it.
In general though it's hard to beat the performance & value of G5 Plus which is still considered one of the very best mid-range devices even with the G6's soon coming out. I've been very satisfied with it and came from the supposedly better Moto X Pure/Style but I like the G5 Plus more with its excellent battery life and still very good performance for my needs. Definitely get the 64 GB model with 4 GB RAM though if possible.
There is still good Development support with many AOSP and LOS based ROMs which are mostly all 8.1 now, so if you're planning to root and use the latest custom ROMs with updated security patches & newest features, you should be happy with it, just be careful about reverting to stock Nougat if you ever want/need to do that.
Thank you @Dahenjo for your in depth answer. I assume you're not using xposed since caring about safety net
W.r.t. magisk: are there any special prerequisites? I never dealt with a encrypted data partition.
Pretty sure I'm gonna order this weekend.
Thanks again!

I came from a Titan ( sister device of Thea, just dual SIM instead of LTE) to Potter and for me it was worth every cent. As you said my battery was slowly dying too and the device was kind of slow with every rom.
Now I have SOT from about 7 hours, no need to carry my powerbank around, battery lasts way more than a day. And with 3gb it's running like hell compared to my good old Titan, you can open apps from recents hours later. I bought it just after christmas for 192€ and I think the price will fall again now as the Moto G6 series is out.
It is the first device with an encrypted data partition for me too and the steps when rooting are a bit different but there is a very good guide in here and you can always PM me if you run into problems.
Basically you have to decrypt the partition once in TWRP after you have unlocked your BL. After that you flash magisk as usual and magisk also prevents the device from overwriting the recovery.
I can recommend this device, yes Oreo is delayed but there are monthly security patches.

No, I'm not using Xposed anymore simply because many ROMs now include the tweaks I needed it for. Also magisk provides add-on modules for features in a similar way that Xposed did, including for Xposed itself which I believe does pass safetynet on Orea if done correctly, but I haven't tried it myself.
I see @Wolfcity just answered regarding encrypted /data, although I would add to be careful using some of the guides here which give very outdated links and you don't need certain files/things anymore that they say to do. Just flash latest official TWRP 3.2.1-0 after unlocking then go to recovery and immediately do a Format Data (not wipe, it's where you have to type in y-e-s to proceed after warning that all user data will be gone), then boot back into recovery/TWRP and install a custom ROM and magisk, gapps too if you want and all should be good.
I had a dual SIM G 2014 and right now I couldn't be happier with my current G5 Plus. I haven't rooted this one yet, but I am planning to do so when the phone is left out of its two year warranty. I needed to replace my phone since I was unable to execute Android Auto, Spotify and Google Maps navigation with my G 2014 at the same time. I was worried if these apps would still be unable to be executed by G5 Plus. From my 1 year experience, one thing is for sure: the G5 Plus performs nearly like a flagship.

You´re right, there are some outdated guides, this one is usable: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/how-to-root-moto-g5-plus-t3579659/post74673573#post74673573
Just use magisk 16 instead of 15.3.
If you don´t want to flash a custom rom (potter stock is not that bad) you have to take care of the F2FS loopback bug which prevents magisk from installing modules.
You can flash a custom kernel or, as I did use this F2FS Loopback Bug Module. It moves magisk from data to cache and it´s a flash and forget solution.
Nope, not unless you wanna lose volte and IMEI among other things. Get a plus device or something. However, if you wait for Oreo, things might be different. If you do get one stay clear of Oreo custom ROMs for now.

Yoga Smart Tab

Hello,
So I got a Lenovo Smart Tab (yt-x703f) and really want to flash TWRP to it, so I can flash LineageOS rom, but it seems like there's no support for it, or even a subthread on XDA.
(I tried various twrp images)
Anyone got some experience with that tablet and have something working?
Cheers
For some reason this device gets the silent treatment on all fora. I can't figure out why, this could be a great multimedia device with some adjustments. batt life is great as is the sound. Screen is ok ish and the speed needs to be tweaked, but no one is willing to tweak
You can root the device and even flash a GSI on it. Tested myself and everything is working

Not sure if we are talking about the same device but lenovo does not support their mid tier devices with OS updates and would like to install a bloatless OS also pie is really dated and wondering if i will run in to issues with app compatibility. There is also that issue where it won't run HD in netflix because netflix is a static app and can not be removed and reinstalled. Hence bloatware and would love a clean google experience.

Flashing a GSI might help if the device supports Project Treble. Basically any device launched with Android 8 and above should support Project Treble.
Hi, I have a Lenovo Yoga smart tab (YT-X705L) and I want to install a new rom on it. I’m not an IT wizard so I need help with that. Would you find anyone who can give step-by-step instructions from start to finish with download links.
And if you can find experiences on how anything works (which is GSI). Thanks in advance.

A20 and phone number identifying and call recording

Hi Everyone,
Is it possible recording calls and phone number identifying on Galaxy A20 with root or stock rom like Lineage since it is not possible with Android anymore? I need some help in this case, because I've found solution for one or other need but it's not for both. I don't know what to do for both solutions. I will Apreciate hints that you can give to me.
Many thanks!
Axet's call recorder(magisk module) working for me
is there anything that works with stock? i see that boldbeast to work to some extent on android q without root?
