Did you download the version for arm64, android x.0+, and, no dpi devices?
I believe it's 440
I tried installing the latest play services and I can see google assistant already in the settings from the google app. But it still doesn't work. When i say ok google, it's just the same old google voice search. I'm also using nova launcher btw.

Same thing happens when I long press home or open google app or voice seach. In nova, I can set it to use google app, or voice search. There's no shortcut for google assistant.

Don't set a home button shortcut in Nova - leave it default. Clear all the data from Google app and the cache from play services, and then reboot. When it boots back up long press the home button and you should have either the assistant or on tap.

Try the Get Assistant app in the play store, or I think there's a Magisk module to enable assistant. I'm out of ideas though lol

Oh wow, this is hell man. not even a patch or any workaround? I happen to really enjoy the increased usability that comes with the custom dpi. I tried googling for answers but no luck.
Do you access the assistant through a long press on home button. On Chinese axon 7 this is not possible as the language needs to be set as Chinese
This is what I get

There's a adb command to set dpi.. haven't tried this personally on this phone but this should work on any android.
adb shell wm density DPI && adb reboot

If you have twrp, just go to terminal and type "wm density DPI" then reboot.
Now we just change the DPI in the command to our default value. 640 I think, not sure though.
You can change the DPI in settings>display if you're on nougat..
How do you enable the home button to open up Google assistant? Just says it needs Chinese language
I have assistant in Google app. Changed voice button to search but it's still the old Google home voice!!! Why no option to set up the assistant
Do you manage to say "Ok Google" at any time working? Here in my phone this option is greyed and I cannot use it. Google Assistent does appears in Google, Search options in settings, and it seems to be turned on, also Google is selected in Assist & voice input and My Voice is disabled. I cannot whatelse to configure... It seems that My Voice blocks long press home functions for me.

I am rooted, however, I cannot run Xposed because it borks games by SquareEnix, and I play FFIV lol. Thanks though!
Any other ideas?
very simple; Install home2 shortcut, assign double-click button to Google now. I have mine set to voice search, so I don't even have to hit my mic when I open google now.
Very convenient when driving
BTW, NO root required!
Even better for driving is to enable the "Hi Galaxy" wake command. Then use tasker to switch over to Google Voice Search each time S - voice runs. There's a 1 sec or so delay but it works and no hands required.

I now realize after switching to Nova launcher this disables the ability to return to your main home screen from another home screen. Is there any xposed or other solution I can use to avoid this issue? I already tried xbutton actions with no option to use double click home button to launch anything!
S for switch voice app in playstore. No root needed.
I really missed the Note 2 default of long pressing the menu key to invoke Google search. Here's the workaround I've been using today that I think is kind of cool:
Make sure S-Voice is enabled on your device. In the S-Voice app, use Menu>Settings to enable double tapping the home key to activate S-Voice. Also handy to set the "Hello Galaxy" command to wake the device into S-Voice.
Activate S-Voice by double tapping the home key, or saying "Hello Galaxy" while the device is asleep.
Once S-Voice is listening, say "Open Google".
Once Google search is open, you can say "Ok Google" as normal.
This sounds more involved than it actually is, and I now feel I have a way to get fast access to my preferred voice assistant again.

You can use wanam to remap hardware keys. So you can actually make it open Google now directly

Not rooted. Should probably have mentioned that.

Also should mention that, unlike remapping the buttons, this technique gives you a way to kind of "bootstrap" yourself using voice alone from screen off right into google now with the mic active.
Sent from my AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 3 using Tapatalk Pro
Another option is to use a custom launcher. Apex allows you to bring up Google now with the menu key. Don't know how you feel about ditching touch wiz though.

Hmm. I would love for mine to work that way, but when I go into the app info for S Voice, the button to clear defaults is disabled and it says no defaults are set.
I do have the option within S Voice set to activate S Voice when double tapping the home key, and that is working.
When I posted this, I assumed everyone not rooted had the same situation as me, where there was simply no way to have anything but S Voice be the default for a home key double tap.
Seems that's not the case, though I can't imagine why.

Unfortunately, this does not work for me. When I go into S-Voice, the home key option is already enabled. The option to "clear defaults" is grayed out in the App Manager. Disabling and re-enabling the home key in S-Voice does nothing. Same with clearing all S-Voice data in the App Manager.

Using Google now on tap, i was able to identify the products such as movies, gadgets and etc by opening the camera app and holding the home button
But with the google assistant it doesn't.. Anyone can use it!
Hey so I just tried and actually it does work. Just aim the camera at something (I used the game case for Mass Effect: Andromeda) and activate Google Assistant. On the bottom you'll see a little floating card. Pull it up and it should show you info about what's on screen. Like I said it recognized Mass Effect & also Destiny.

You just aim the camera at something and press and hold the home button to trigger assistant. Then on the very bottom of the assistant screen you'll see a little card bobbing up and down. Pull the card up with your finger and it'll show any relevant information about what's on the screen.
Actually I just noticed that you don't even need to pull it up yourself. You open the camera and trigger assistant with whatever you want in the viewfinder. The card bobs up and down for a couple of seconds before automatically expanding itself to reveal the information.

Is there a recommended app to use to for moto G play to disable certain apps? For instance, I use package disabler pro for my samsung s7.

One more question I hope you'll know... As I was closing apps from the square "recent apps" button, the google search bar now appears at the top (and is accessible). Any ideas how to get rid of it? We are using Nova Launcher instead of google's native launcher, which helped get rid of the original google search bar on the home screen.
