please help, headset dead?!

My MDA Compact was dropped to a floor from like a 0.5meter height and it had crystal "cover" on it which SHOULD protect it from breaking.
but now the headset is dead. i mean the phone works and i can send sms and call and everything and screen is normal but i don't hear anyone when i call or when i'm called!
what to do? software problem or hardware? is it really so weak phone? i can't belive...
Try using your earphones to determine whether this problem is due to a wrong contact in the speaker or a software problem.. if you can hear sounds while using your earphone.. then 90%: the problem is with the contact of the speaker it self.. this is a common problem with all magicians even if you don't drop it !!
any way.. if you are skilled enough, you can open you magician and solder the loose contact... I wouldn't suggest that thought, since it will void the warranty..
you can send it to your operator and tell them this problem happened out of no where.. if you like  and they should repair it for free..
if you can't hear anything while using the earphone... then you HAVE to send you unit to your operator or any service center....
a hard reset might or re-flashing might help if this is a software problem, but it's very unlikely to be.
best wishes
its a hardware problem, tested.
i'll try to ask them to repair it for me but due to its visible cracklings (the mirror is broken :? ) i'm afraid they wont repair it for free although the phone is old 3 months and i got the warranty
if i go then on solution by repairing it myself, where can i find screws and which ones to unscrew not to demolish the whole phone
thanks

Sound issues with the Wizard

My dear Wizard has broken. Again. In fact this would be the 5th time. But my supplier, 02, is breathing a breath of relief as I've just moved out of warranty and can't get it replaced again (ironically, the last send-in for repair was two weeks ago, which was in the warranty period.)
Anyway, the problem is this. The headset jack is borked. When headphones are plugged in, all the sound is horribly distorted - it sounds like I'm underwater. This is particularly pronounced for the speech part of the spectrum, leaving my music without lyrics!
This affects all headphones I use with it and isn't software as the speaker works fine. If I apply pressure to the jack pushing it up towards the screen, it can be made to sound ok. So I would guess it's a bad contact or some grime etc that's preventing a good electrical contact (the sound does feel like it's being put through a capacitance filter).
Any ideas how I can make it work again? If not, I'll have to go buy a bluetooth headset, but I'm a little skint right now..
No solution from me, but this might help. You can try checking with O2 regarding your current warranty as you have your phone just fixed 2 weeks ago. Some company will automatically renew the warranty period if the device is being fixed under warranty.
Good idea - but when I called up I asked about this to no avail. Turns out they don't provide a warranty on repair models. Arg.
you could try fixing it yourself, google for 'wizard service manual' there is a copy on another forum which you will have to register for, i don't know if there is one on this site
It might just come to that. I might just try blagging a repair - it seems a little out of order that they won't repair a defective phone they sent me somehow. Besides, if I have a phone that works, I can make calls and generate them revenue! But... if that fails, out come the screwdrivers.
Actually, the symptoms suggest to me that it's not broken per se, but rather dirty or similar. The distortion sounds like a capacitor which suggests the jack is being obstructed very close to the contact. Perhaps it needs a clean of a sort...
S*it the bed?
My phone has the same problem. But, i don't think an american carrier would be as understanding as a english carrier about modification, so you might have to do what i am going to do
1. Bribe someone at the T-Mobile store.
2. Bribe My Cousin at the Cingular Store
3. Check E-Bay for a cheep parts phone or a dummy who has a bad description for a phone.

[Q] [DISCUSS] HD2's touch not working, htc says due to usb connector !!!!!!!!

Hello guys,
I can't believe in my ears and I would like to discuss this with you.
My HD2 has the usual "touch screen not responding" problem.
When I sent it back, htc told me that my touch screen needs to be changed and that this is part of the warranty that they will cover but there is an extra cost (actually bigger than buying the phone) for changing the main board which cannot be covered by htc because "plugging and unplugging the device in power has destroyed it".
Is this even possible or are they trying to just void my warranty?
I should tell you that my usb connector cable was working fine when I sent it to warranty!
Did you sent it with the battery included?
If so, then if the battery had a charge on it, then that would surely indicated that it had been charged via the USB.
Now if the USB went faulty at the same time as the touchscreen, then it must be a fault with the motherboard. Since they have admitted that they would fix the touchscreen problem as part of the warranty, then the motherboard must be fixed.
They designed the phone to use the microUSB connector to charge the phone and knew that the phone would have to be charged almost every day. So it is their fault, unless they can prove that you were extremely harsh at inserting and removing the cable.
no the battery was not sent with the phone.
They didn't tell me that the usb is defective. They just told me that the mainboard needs replacement for the new touch screen to work because the connector of the touch screen on the mainboard is destroyed because of the usb unplugging which is even more outraging!!
I have watched the disassemble of the hd2 and I can't seem to find out how the usb charging could screw the connector of the touch screen on the mainboard. I think they are not even close!
Are they playing me?
I don't know how the display and the micro usb connectors are placed, but, because what you're saying, I would definitively say that they're trying to cheat you, I don't know where you live, but I would try to reach the HTC service center in your country or zone (in case you didn't), their representatives tend to be not very "correct" with the customers, I sent my HD2 to repair in warranty (wifi plus uneven display retro-illumination) and it returned jusk like new, I taked to one of their representatives, but they send it to HTC's main offices here, I contacted HTC first and they told me excatly what to do and how to do it.
The workshop where I took my phone to be sent to HTC is well known to be not very "honest" and most of the people who take a phone, pda or whatever there, finish angry and deluded.
good luck then.
From what I've seen and read in recent threads, broken USB connectors don't affect the touch screen in any way.
I will talk to the representatives today in my country and inform you. I really think they are playing me. I can't seem to find any reason how the usb connector and the touch screen are linked
Ok I just talked to the representatives here in Greece and they seem to be the rudest I have ever met. So I called the global HTC service. The guys there were more than helpful. I decided to send the phone to United Kingdom.
So let's say that the phone comes back from HTC's service in the UK without charge and I have an official answer from HTC's service in Greece that this cost is not covered by warranty what can I do to let HTC know that the service here in Greece works awful?
Write down an email explainig in detail what happened and send it to HTC's main support with the UK support and the Greece support in CC and see what happen.
Cheers

Back speaker dead, oxydation sign.

Hello,
After a sim reading problem, my phone was sent in a reparation center & come back with this problem solved (remplaced sim/sd module) but now my phone have an oxydation sign.
& now the back speaker is no more working.
I asked the reparation center to fix that but they don't mind.
So, I want to know if the speaker problem is due especially at the oxydation sign at this particullar place (can't post the photo: i'm not allowed to post links), or if I can fix the the speaker normally like it doesn't have any oxydation.
Thanks.
In your place I would contact an organization working in customer rights protection. If they really messed up the speaker during their repairs, they must fix it free of charge, definitely.

Help ! Water damage . audio wont work

Hey guys I'm new here. A few weeks ago i happened to not notice that some liquid spilt on my phone while driving and i left it there like that for a while . then When i got a call and answered couldn't hear the other person. Then i noticed water on the fingerprint scanner as i had a spigen case and it had managed to get into my phone. I turned off my phone immediately and disconnected everything. Next morning i happened to removed the board and dry it out as i have done this many times before when i changed the thermal paste. The water damage indicator was red. After ensuring everything had dried out i put it back together and my phone powered back on and it charges well. But when i go to play an audio file. I get an error Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file. The audio recorder hangs and i camera app also works but when i switch to video it hangs. Phone has been reset to factory. Same issue. Sorry for the long story. Need some Help on what part to replace. Is it the mic and speaker that's busted or some component like the DAC. If so where is the Dac located and how can i go about fixing this. Any part websites you recommend I'm from India.
Any help is nice guys. Please
My first V20 was one I bought on ebay that had sound not working. Also the camera was not working. I though it would be an easy fix, well, hoped actually, but it was not. I didn't pay much for it so I though it was worth the risk. The problem you have sounds exactly the same. Software reset won't fix it.
I did get it to work though temporarily. I put the motherboard in the oven for 10 minutes. It worked for a few days only.
The problem is that the DAC chip is now faulty due to water damage I'd say. You need a new motherboard. I would suggest buying a new v20 and keep the old one for charging your spare battery on quick charge! Or you can buy a new motherboard only on alliexpress for about 50/60 euros.
Thank you. I did consider an industrial oven. Could you please help me with temps you used? Was it the same error you got while trying to play a track?
