G930A --> G930U Possible after nougat? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I've noticed several threads that its not possible to revert nougat to earlier version. I'm stuck.
Is there any hope the new security will be cracked? Or, what if G930U comes out with a nougat release? Would then be possible to flash with Odin?

You can downgrade from nougat back right pk1 using Odin.

So a two-step process... Install PK1 with odin, then go right back over it with the latest G930U build?
Think I found the PK1 stuff in this thread too.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/pk1-odin-files-t3522168
I REALLY appreciate the input!!

I was able to downgrade to PK1. This step appears successful but I get a msg on bootup/setup that 'unauthorized attempt to reset to factory default and connect to wifi to verify identity." I choose not to connect to wifi because not sure what will happen (this is my phone so I could log into google if thats all it needs). Instead went back to download mode and attempted to flash G930U. But got the following error. It looks like the same as when I tried to take device directly to G930U directly from Nougat firmware.
ID:0/004> Odin engine v(ID:3.1203)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> FAIL! SHA256 is invalid
Still searching around for solutions on this. Will post again if I find one.
Using G930UUEU4APL2 as firmware. I believe this is latest

SUCCESS!!
I used the Prince Comsy version from this thread

Yea i was fixing to reply and tell you too do that. Only use the official Odin for official firmware. All other firmware normally need the modified Odin

Your first tip got me rolling again -- thanks!!

I just did this, relatively smoothly:
1) Downgrade to PK1 using odin 3.12.3
2) Convert to 4APL2 using Odin3_v3.12_PrinceComsy
Exactly what I needed, thank you all!

So far I like this ROM way better than AT&T's. Battery drained 6% overnight with AOD turned on. Before switching I saw 20% drain per night, even after using No Root Firewall to detect and remove/disable intrusive apps. I haven't had any WiFi problems like I had on Nougat. Mobile Data quick toggle is restored (AT&T had removed the quick toggle). Samsung Pay seems happy.
Most importantly, I don't really feel the need to use PDP to debloat 97 programs on my phone. Manually disabling a trio of Facebook-owned apps should be fine. After the first boot, all apps fit on one drawer page. After getting my settings and most apps back all morning I still am only showing 29 apps in my Nova drawer with space for 35 on the first page.
The ONLY feature I miss from Nougat is quick reply. I've only had one night/morning with it so there's a lot TBD, but so far it's safe to say this was a good move.

Phone will NOT connect to kies, I get an error saying "This phone is not supported". My version of kies does see my att n3 just fine though. I can connect to odin it looks like. Cannot boot into recovery, it just boots into dl mode with the error message. Unknown how the phone got in this state.

Is the phone on 4.3 or 4.4.2 right now? If 4.4.2 which one? The full odin sxtp leak or the rooted leaked build by Beanstown?
Edit. I see your not sure what's on the phone now.
No idea. Installed the pit file and can get into recovery and download now but wont boot. Phone hasn't booted since I got it. Here's what I have...

[Firmware][Guide][Q&A] FIRMWARE MIRROR / OTA & ROOT GUIDE / TECHNICAL Q&A
If it works then you can root and do the build by Beans and flash the firmware to get on rooted 4.4.2
downloading mj7 from here, I'm just in the dark about what I have on the phone, it just needs to be stock non-rooted. Didn't know if flashing the .tar would break it if I have a different firmware. I don't know how to find out if the phone won"t boot.

Cool let me know. It should work fine. The only reason it wouldn't is if it was on the unrooted 4.4.2 build.

Thanks for your help @Harleydroid, much appreciated.

Download your rom of choice I recommend ( Jasmine Rom 2.0 ) but others might fit you better ...
1. Install towel root
first open it and click on make it rain in about 15 seconds your phone will reboot
2. download root checker from the play store and check to see if you have root access open it ..it will pop up and go ahead and grant permission then it will say congratulations you have root access ....
3. then download supersu from the play store install that(optional) ... Open it and and it will ask something about the binaries click OK and it should install them if not that's OK just close out Reboot:
3. Now Install SafeStrap: follow these how to instructions ...The latest is 3.75
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610
3a.(YOU MUST INSTALL THE NC2 FIRMWARE IN ODIN AT THIS TIME) unified kk firmware see below pic:
4. After you install safestrap successfully hit reboot to recovery button there in SS..
5. First thing you want to do is create a backup of your Stock Rom...***
6. Then Hit the Back key til you get to the tabs that say install ,wipe etc..hit wipe hit advance wipe check Dalvick, Data, cache, and system then slide.
7.then hit back again to get to the install tab..Now find the rom of choice I recommend dl ing (Jasmine Rom 2.0 awesome rom) or follow this...

Is your phone in download mode?
1. turn off the phone.
2. press "down" volume key + "home" button + "power" button. When you see some message shows up, hit "up" volume key.
I had the same problem with Odin when I first tried to flash my new modem. First, if you have Samsung Kies installed and are not using it, unistall it and the Samsung USB drivers that came with you phone. Install the latest Samsung USB drivers from the Samsung website and then Odin should see your phone and work like a charm.

S7 Edge (Sprint) stuck in boot loop after attempting to root using Odin

Welp, I'm pretty sure I messed this up. Found a YouTube video (not even sure which one at this point, sorry) that was recently uploaded detailing how to root a Galaxy S7 Edge. Downloaded the firmware, opened up Odin, put it into Download mode, selected the Qualcomm firmware version for the AP field, and click start. It flashed correctly (according to Odin) and the phone began restarting and didn't stop. Just show's the "Galaxy S7 Edge" screen, goes black, and starts over.
I tried downloading the stock firmware for Sprint, load the appropriate files into Odin, and click start, I then get this output:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",

}
And on the phone, I see:
My build number is NRD90M.G935PVPS5BRA1, kernel version 3.18.31-12623509
I'm fairly certain this is entirely something that could have been avoided had I read more guides or instructions. Unfortunately, here I am! I really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I've been Googling and reading all morning, and I'm sure the answer is there, but I'll be damned if I can see it.
While I don't think there's much important info here, I figure it's at least showing some more in terms of version and name:
Your binary boot is v5. It won't work and you can't downgrade at the moment. What are you trying to do with root? There are many non root alternatives. To fix your bootloops, odin the stock firmware again.
Make sure you have the special version of odin too.
Also, download the stock firmware again. Try updato.com or plug the firmware version into android file host

I don't know why I did not put together the relevance of firmware and the build number, but that was the issue all along it seems! After a dozen different cables, ports, and firmware versions I finally realized I needed to plug in the whole build number to find the firmware for that build specifically. Once flashed, the phone rebooted, asked to restore the backup based on the Google account, and it can text and make calls! Thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to read and research a lot more before the next attempt to root a phone.

Glad it worked out...we all have been there at some point. Any reason you wanted to root? There may be some non-root alternatives available.

Unable to flash stock rom via Odin from custom ROM (Renovate ICE)

Hello,
I have on my S8 (G950F) Renovate ROM for almost one year, I will switch to new phone soon and I want give my current phone to my sister, so I wanted flash stock firmware and unroot device. Unfortunatelly I am not able do it. I tried manage it on two laptops, I use originanal USB-C cable, I tried few different last firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/, and this one as well- https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/rom-galaxy-s8-t3749171.
Odin software is 3.13.1 and drivers on my laptops should be okay because I am able flash TWRP. But when I tried flash stock firmware, I am getting some errors:

On screen on phone in Downlading mode after failed flash is showing:
sw rev. check fail device: 4. binary: 1
or
sw rev. check fail device 3 binary 2
Everything what I can do is flash custom ROMS from TWRP but I really want go back to Stock ROM so only Odin can do it I guess.
Thank you so much for your tips and help.
Veronika
Just a hint:
a had a similar behaviour on my Samsung tab S2.
The only thing that helped was flashing an really old stock ROM, specifically that one which was on the device at the time i bought it.
Maybe you could try it with an 7.0 Stock ROM.
You can get them from Here: https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=SM-G950F&rpp=15&order=date&dir=asc&exact=1
Thank you.
I already tried flash custom Nougat ROM but I got same errors in Odin later.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/rom-batstock-rom-v1-0-t3598853.
So now I will try download first stock Nougat ROM from my carrier on sammobile site

Your issue is you are trying to flash older firmware (bootloader) version than what is on your phone. You will need the latest version with boot loader version 4
The firmware version should look like this G950FXXU4CRI5.

As long as it is for your region ( and carrier ). If not sure I would.use a program called samfirm. At the moment I am having issues pasting links so you will have to do a search or use sammobil or updato.
Done, firmware from link was correct and I was able flash it.
Thank you so much for your help.
There is a simple reason for this. If you came from TWRP as "reboot to download", this creates the problem. Turn off the phone. Go to download mode with Vol_Down+Bixby+Power and then press Vol_Up button. When I enter download mode like this, it flashes without any problems.

I have some t350's with issues recovery/MDM/black screen and bootloops

I recently found at the dumps a box of t350's 6/18 didnt like combination flashing the mdm away/new firmware install. 3 failed the same way while putting on newest firmware with odin now they say mdm mode in odin again and i have no debug access. 1 black screens in bootloader and when booting no debug access mdm mode in odin again. BUT ! I have 1 with debug access and see it in ADB BUT it fails to install due to signature verifcation of the ROM's I've tried. I think the later is savable EZ just need a a little help getting TWRP onto it I guess and I'm good. I'll worry about the others later but any ideas ? my brain hurts from trying cables/roms/adb versions lol
Maybe the rom is incorrect have you checked the region and model number etc?

hmmmm how can i fix it ?
It could be hardware issue, I'm not sure how to fix hardware issues. Thats probably the reason they were all together in a box.
no they where in a box because they came from a school and they didn't take knox off, there was 1000+ of them I just grabbed a tray full they have these crazy polycarbonate cases on them too with security screws. they all worked until i flashed knox away with varying results 12/18 working fine 18 worked prior but in knox
Oh that info is noted.
May I help you later. Its pretty late and I have to get off.
Ill help in the mornin
