Sleep tracking / Google Fit? - Other SmartWatches

Has anyone had any success with apps like Sleep as Android that can sync with Google Fit working with their standalone watches? The Y3 supposedly has the ability to track sleep but there's no built-in app for it and while the Sleep app can be installed on the watch, it doesn't seem to share data with the phone version, at least not without just using one or the other and just syncing the data to SleepCloud.

[Q] What happens with a smart watch when you're phone isn't there?

seriously tempted by the G-Watch, for no real practical reason! I was just wondering what happens if your phone runs out of battery or you leave your phone somewhere etc, will it still be able to tell you the time and appointments etc or does it do nothing at all?!
cheers
I would assume you would basically just have....a watch. I may be wrong but seems like its pulling notifications from the phone. So no phone no notifications. I could be wrong in the way I'm thinking.

That's what I thought, just wondered if maybe some bits (like the calendar) would also work if it had been "synced" with the phone but I don't know enough about them!!
I'd imagine the following thing's
1. Notification that the watch has lost sync from phone.
2. No new data will be received and therefor nothing would get updated since the last sync
3. Any reminders / Alarms / Meetings that are scheduled pre-phone death would still run on time as would be stored against the watches clock.
Don;t forget phone apps
We also know that apps can be written to live independently on the watch. I have to imagine these apps would retain some reduced functionality in a not connected state. For instance, I'm sure if you go jogging with the phone and watch, you'll be able to track GPS trails, elevation, etc. But jogging with just the watch, you'll still be able to use the pedometer, and sync it back to Google Fit on reconnection.

Can the watch be used independently from the phone at certain times?

Yes. I'm using a Samsung gear live from Google io with a galaxy tab 10 running KitKat.
Bluetooth range is pretty good, but the tablet is WiFi only so if i 'm in the car etc the watch has no Bluetooth.
It still works as a watch... Alarms, timer, stopwatch, heart rate monitor. It even still tracks my steps.
But of course no Google now, no mail notifications, etc.
(My phone is a iPhone.. The only android I've got is the 2011 Tab 10.1)
BTW, you must have a android 4.3+ device to set this up.

this is obvious! It can't sync with a device that isn't there or is switched off - that wasn't the question!
I am asking how much functionality remains, i.e. are alerts from say the calendar sent from the phone directly as they occur or are they synced to the memory on the phone so that they would be on there until the next sync..
Date, time, calendars, timers, alarms, apps not requiring a live data connection, et cetera, all continue to function when not connected to the paired phone.

[Q] Alternative to Android Wear, using a wear device without Play Services

Hi, I recently got a Moto 360 as a present. But sadly, I soon came to the realization that you can't run Android Wear without GAPPS installed (I'm running CM10.2). I'm not going to install Google's spyware just so I can use a watch.
Are there other Apps that work with AndroIid Wear Devices? My smartphone does support Bluethooth 4 and BLE. A little bit digging showed me that some dedicated people got some functionality to work on their Iphone without Google Services. Alos when I install the Pebble App it recognzes my phone (but can not connect)
I really just want to get notifications to my watch, control music , set an alarm and maybe get my pulse data on my phone. Are there third party apps that can do that?
The person who ported the Android Wear functionality to Iphone has a Github repository of his Iphone app under shiitakeo/android_wear_for_ios . If there is no option I will have to write my own app and I'm going to orient myself on what he did there.
So you are looking for an app to connect your android phone to the iOS wear connect app on moto360? And not android wear app?
I'm looking for a third party android app that lets me connect my Moto 360 with my Phone aCyanogenmod 10.2 without gapps installed.
Without gapps I can't install the offical Android Wear app. Taking a peak in the IOS world shows me that it' s possible to do that with a device that supports Bluethooth 4.0 and BLE. The Pebbles app also recognizes my watch but does not let me connect it, this tells me that they must use a similiar protocol or maybe even the same. My question is, if someebody already did write such an App, that lets you connect your Android phone with your smart watch (without installing gapps!), or if I have to do this on my own. (I'm a software developer but never did anything with Bluethooth or much in Android.)
I'd also like to find a non-gapps solution for this. Have you found one?

Android Wear Newbie - some (probably simple) questions

So... just got me a Huawei watch and while I love the look and feel, I have some issues/questions/hopes that i figure you guys will know
Just for detail, I'm using my watch with a Xperia Z5
1. Is it possible to hide notifications on watch face so that they only appear on swipe up? Failing that, is it possible to at least hide them on the 'deactivated' watch face, only to show when i 'activate it'?
2. When using voice I quite frequently get offline errors, despite being connected according to the phone and main screen - anything I can do here??
Related to this:
How can I stop the phone waking in my pocket when voice does connect? Leads to things happening in my pocket
3. Google Maps
- Can i get Google maps to default to walking?
- Frequently Google maps doesn't navigate properly at all - sticks on recalculating or just fails
- Can I get Google maps voice directions on watch not on phone?
4. I would like to set notifications on my phone to the watch - i've seen this option - but i still want to get the apps I've blocked notifications on the phone... possible?
5. App questions
- Is it possible to hide apps from the list at all? I tried a few of the other launchers but I keep getting Screen Overlay errors so have had to delete...
- Is there a better Agenda app that shows more than just today? (found Agenda Wear but can hardly read anything on that!)
- There seems to be a built in find my phone, but it doesnt work. Downloaded a separate app and it does does - any ideas?
- I seem to have three fitness apps on my writs... Google Fit vs Daily Tracking vs Fitness Tracking - do i need them all? Is one the core in which others are reliant?
- I seem to get a reboot when removing and often adding an app - is this usual?
6. How can I change contacts shown? Seems to be most recent except I alse get the first phonbook entry alphabetically who I rarely contact for some reason
A lot of questions I know - thanks in advance for any insight!!

Hi vaderag, i answer the first question:
Yes, you can set this from:
Phone -> Android wear app -> configuration -> moto 360 (established connection) -> cards preview

KW-18 (and others) developing app

Hi,
I have a KW-18 watch and I used for a while the Fundo Wear app to sync watch data (like steps, HR data, ...). I've found this app very poor and I was wondering if there is, or if I could develop, an alternative app to get this data, perhaps syncing with Google fit too.
Any suggestion for an alternative app or for where to begin to develop a new one? Like, the watch has a known comm protocol or an SDK?
Thanks.

Android Wear insists my Google App is not updated

Hi all,
I needed to do a reinstall of my phone in order to clean up data. (don't worry, this is indeef about Android Wear).
I couldn't set my watch up and it is syncing with my phone. However, the Android Wear app is insisting that I do not have a sufficiently updated Google App.
It is wrong as I even tried a Google App with a release date of 16-Jan-2018 from Apk Mirror, and yet the Wear app still gives this error in the screenshot, even after reboot.
I mean generally it's okay not to use Android Wear, but, that app has some functionality that I need. (eg Screenshot, Bluetooth Debugging from my phone needs to be enabled from that app, etc).
Anyone know what is up with this?
