Voice input buggy after Nougat - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

A few days after a fresh install of Nougat on a new device, Voice Typing started acting funny. It's inserting ALL of the likely variations of what I'm saying in one run-on sentence. (See sceeenshot) Tried wiping cache through recovery. Have not yet uninstalled Google app. Reproduced bug on stock and 3rd party messaging and keyboard apps. Ideas?

It's not nugget, it's Google assistant

That's what I suspected. Any work around?

I have to say things 3 and 4 times with Google Search. First time it doesn't hear me the second time it doesn't hear me and the third time it's just here's the first word....

Tried uninstalling Google App and Play Services updates, and turning off assistant. The only thing that works for now is disabling Google Voice Typing. Which then defaults to your keyboard apps built in voice to text, which is far inferior. Maybe wiping Dalvik cache?

Apparently I'm not the only one. The reviews for Google App on Play Store have plummeted since the update. Multiple users have the same complaint. Thinking about starting a petition...

I think I have a workaround, at least until Google fixes the problem. Find the Google App under Settings > Applications and Unistall Updates. This rolled me back to ver 6.7.21.21arm64. Next you're going to have to roll back Google Play Services. Download from Play Services Info app from Play Store and check your version. DON'T update through Play Store. Use APK Mirror.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...s-10-2-98-440-146496160-android-apk-download/
Select "Google Play services 10.2.98 (440-146496160)" (this one is dated early February, before Assistant role out.) Side load and soft reset phone. Just make sure you do NOT accept any updates to the Google App for now and you should be good to go. Google. Voice Typing works as expected again.
I'll keep you all updated on how this works out.

How I got "OK Google Everywhere" back on Kitkat

What I did was download a rooted stock ROM that I was already running (cnk2). I dirty flashed it onto my tmobile s5. Surprise! OK Google Everywhere! This confirms for me that Google has deliberately killed this function on their updates, I don't know of course which updates, but I would guess very possibly the search and Google App itself.
At this point I will continue to use the un-updated Google Apps, and report back on whether this adversely affects my use of the Play Store and so on.
Anyone not using Kitkat may be able to locate a ROM that contains Google Apps old enough not to have been damaged by Google. You of course flash that at your own risk. I was already using a stock ROM and flashed the same exact ROM, original version, over my running system.
If anyone would like, I can list whatever version of system app I am using that you think might be of interest in this situation.
Update
Yesterday my phone was getting really hot and the battery use showed that Google Apps was accounting for 16% of battery usage. I did some googling and found others were having this problem. I decided to see if updating Google play services would make a change. I updated:
Google app
Google play services
Google play store
Google text to speech
Google+
Afterward with testing, I still had Google Now Everywhere. My theory now is that an update of some kind that I have "leapfrogged" in this manner may have caused the loss of Google Now Everywhere. I can go into the Google app, select settings, and under voice/"ok google" detection/ I can still retrain the voice model and select "from any screen".

Latest Google Play Services update breaking KatKiss 4.4.4

KatKiss 4.4.4 has kept our TF101s going for years, but the latest Google Play Services update seems to not be compatible and leads to constant "Google Play Services has stopped" messages, along with occasional, similar messages from gapps, and Services Framework.
Clearing caches and data, rolling apps back to factory will stop the messages. But make anything Google more or less unusable. Updating Play Services again starts the "has stopped" messages.
We have 2 TF101s, my wife keeps her auto-update on, I don't. Hers started first, so I went ahead and let mine update to see if it would have the same problem. As soon as Play Services updated, the errors began.
I know there are KatKiss versions for 5/6, but have always seen 4.4.4 recommended as the most stable for the TF101. However, we mostly use our tablets for reading with Play Books, so if there's another KatKiss version that Play Services still works with, I'd consider taking a performance hit just to get things working again. Or if there's another ROM someone can recommend that's confirmed still working with the latest Play Services update, that's stable on the the TF101, I'd be down for trying that too.
It's amazing how many years these tablets have worked for us. Obviously we are approaching the day when they will just be too old for most things, but I'd like to get a little more time out of them as our eBook readers.
TIA for any tips and assistance.
It's doing it on all versions of KatKiss.

Well, that's good to know, though bad news to hear.
Subscribing for updates as well...my transformer is still doing duty as the slingplayer -> chromecast and netflix -> chromecast hub but seems to be extra broken with this last google play services update.
Same problem here on two TF101, one 4.4.4, one stock.
I did factory reset and not registered my google email.
After this I disabled all Google on my tablets using Advanced App Permisions and now I am using Youtube in browser and the rest of my app from Amazone Appstore.
Shame on you GOOGLE!
I have some apps not free from Playstore, I spend my money and now they are useless, should I sue Google for this?

I did the same but after a while google play services found a way and did auto-update
Me too.
Hopefully somone can find a fix.... or is there another stable ROM we can go to?
OMG, Saturday I got the same problem and thought I had made some mistake. Then I spent most of the weekend trying to get the unit working. And it turns out it's Google who messed up?
I tried KatKiss 4.4.4 and 6.0 and huge problems with both.
I am now flashing with Asus stock. Are you saying that too is broken?
Do you have auto-updates enable? Since I've posted (a few hours ago) it's been running fine.

I installed fresh new 4.4.4. After installing, Google ask for Google account. Few minutes later, problem start. I have no time to disable auto-update. And, if somehow I can manage to not let Google Play services to update (how?), I can not install Youtube, Gmail etc. Please advice. Thanks.

Try to skip adding a ggogle account on startup. Add it later and immediately disable auto updates. Not sure if you can set up google play settings before adding an account, but you could try.

will try right now, thanks.
I managed to uninstall updates on Google Play services and Google Play store. But, every time I uninstall updates, in Google Play settings I found checked by default the option to auto-update! So, I must be very fast: uninstall updates- go to Google Play settings - uncheck autoupdate!
ANYWAY, Youtube and any other app related to Google wont start "unless you update Google Play". And, after installing Youtube, the repetitive message "has stopped" strating to appear again. TABLET USELESS.
EDIT NOTE: every time Google Play find a way to autoupdate EVEN I check in settings to disable autoupdates. I think is refer to disable autoupdate for other apps, not for itself.
About the Asus stock ROM:
Good: no popups!
Good: much faster than the KitKatt 4.4.4 that was installed for a couple of years. (Is there a way to take an installed ROM and make it fresher? For instance cold boot, or what?)
Bad: I had to download an APK to get Google Play running, so I could download Kindle app and a decent web browser.
Bad: After I updated the Gmail app, that app dies randomly when I read mail. So I reverted it back to the stock app again. Odd that even Google's own apps are not stable.
Happy now that I have my belowed TF101 running again. I will put KatKiss back again, soon. What's your experiences with KatKiss 6 vs 4.4.4?
Could someone explain in more detail how to stop the auto-update once I'm in KatKiss?
Same Issues Here // B80 TF101
I've been battling this as well. I just pulled out my TF101 from the drawer its been sitting in for two years. I was stoked when I saw the 6.0 KatKiss! Put TWRP on and flashed it right away. Started getting the dreaded "Play Services" errors and issues. I've since reflashed twice, tried the 5.1 version (twice), the 4.4.4 version and back to the 6.0. Each time wiping, installing the rom, superSU, the correct Gapps and then wiping cache/dalvik.
Seems the only thing I can do is uninstall the updates to Play services to keep it stable, until it auto updates. I'd like to use this in the truck this summer for Google Maps or Waze, but if I can't get it stable back in the drawer it will go.
Kind of crazy that a 6 year old tablet still runs this well!
If I find anything I will post it for others to take advantage of, and if anyone finds something, even minor, please post it! :good:

Try to uninstall the play services updates while offline and alter the definitions of auto update. Mine is running stable since yesterday.

Issues with Google apps. Anyone else???

I'm using the NotSoStock ROM for the T-Mobile V20 version 6.5. I haven't had any issues this entire time but of recent randomly my Google app won't work. When I open it the wheel just spins with no message or indication of connecting to Google. Google Assistant will not respond to OK Google. Voice to text won't work on GBoard. The Google search bar won't work. My play store is fine Gmail is fine just seems to be everything related to the new installment of Google Assistant stops working. I'm not using greenify. I haven't installed anything different since getting this ROM running. It hasn't been updated since I've rooted. Only thing I've downloaded was a theme from the playstore. I thought maybe that was it so I removed it and went back to stock but it did it again later on in the evening after being perfect all day. Sometimes if I close all apps it will connect when reopening. But other times I have to reboot the phone. I've wiped cache and dalvik cache. Wiped app data and cache. I've tried changing the ignore status of Google services framework so it's never put to deep sleep in the settings baked into stock LG UI. I can't figure this out and it's frustrating. Can anyone help or at least let me know I'm not alone and maybe this is a Google server issue.
I have had similar behavior with Google assistant acting up, again just very recently and it used to be flawless. Must be Google update version issue. Maybe we can roll back to previous version?
I'm having the issue with the missing voice to text on Gboard. It's also missing from lgboard and I'm not able to add it to the board under settings because the mic icon doesn't exist. I know gapps is the issue, but I have no idea why. Looking for a solution.
What solved it for me was signing up for Google play services beta and the Google app beta. Been flawless since.
I'm on a stock Verizon Google pixel. W/ unlocked bootloader. I started having this issue as well. Will try to see about the beta thing you mentioned.
The only short term solution I've found is restarting my phone. But otherwise it's really inconvenient.
Hasn't seemed I've been happening as much. But my Google assistant and or Google Voice search would freeze I would have to reboot the phone to get it to work again. I'm stock Verizon v20
Gotta be an issue on Google end. Hopefully they fix it soon

Apps won't appear in the updates tab of the Play Store

Hi guys.
I thought it was strange not having updates for a while on the Store, so today I checked with a friend of mine and I saw that he had a lot of updates this morning, same apps that I use on my phone.
So I checked manually if there was any updates, but I had no items in the list:
As you can see, my list is completely empty (it says "No update avaible" or whatever... in italian), so I manually searched for an updated app. I tried Instagram and:
The app can be updated... how odd ("Aggiorna" is the italian for "Update"). So I've updated it and it appeared in the list of the up-to-date apps right after.
I erased the data of every single Google app, Google Play Services too, but I had no results.
How can I fix this? It's a pretty annoying thing.
Hi,
Did you use microG?
I have the same behavior with microG.
Or maybe you've restored apps with something like Titanium?
Once you updated the app on play store, future updates for this particular app will be shown on the update tab.
You made all the proper actions to try solving it, I guess.
In Titanium Backup, there's an option for linking apps to the Play Store. Maybe it can help.

Suddenly apps crashing; wipe storage to fix... seems to be Google issue

Hi folks,
I've got a stock 6013, fully up to date on Android 10, never rooted or anything, and suddenly the Gmail app started crashing. Every time I would open it, it would crash within a second. At first I thought it was just that app. I wiped storage for Gmail, and things seemed back to normal. Then I noticed certain other apps... but ONLY CERTAIN APPS... started doing the same thing. Wiping their storage restored them. Even going into the Google Search bar results in a crash within a second or two.
It's not a hardware fault... I just finished a half an hour of Angry Birds 2 ( ) with no problems. But now Gmail is acting up again. Tapatalk was a problem once, but clearing its storage restored it and it seems stable.
Anybody else seeing very weird repeated app crashes that happen within a second or so of starting said app?
Marc
I'm having the exact same problem. This started 4-5 hours ago. Before noon PDT, a game I was playing worked fine, but by 1pm, I saw the same symptoms. Gmail is also crashing for me, as well as Oxygen Updater and the Amazon Shopping app.
Clear system cache.
Try using factory load for gmail and Google Play Services. Clear the latter's data.
Delete Google account and recreate if the above doesn't work.
Google Play Services is probably the culprit.

Thanks. Did that and went through https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/9037938?hl=en as well. Once that was done, uninstalling and reinstalling the offending apps seems to get them working. It was definitely Google Play Services throwing a huge tantrum. I haven't messed with Gmail yet, but Pocket Casts and Amazon shopping are back up after uninstall/reinstall. Thanks!

Doesn't hurt anything to clear Google Play Services data, I do it weekly.
I also package block it except as needed like for Gmail.
Disable Google Firebase if you don't use it; data miner and a resource hog.

Not good
I rarely update OS's anymore, even with app updates I keep backup copies of the older version(s) if needed.
Since Q, Google has been on a downward spiral with Android. I'm not impressed.
As long as I have a fast, stable platform that fullfills its mission, I leave it be.
Even a malware forced factory reset be less time consuming then trying to adapt to Google's concept of "improvement".
Thanks folks. It was the issue @meowingtv cited. Last night I found a temporary fix was to roll back the Android System Web Viewer app, which I did. This morning I saw the all-clear that it was ok to re-update it and Chrome at the same time. All good now, but this was a SERIOUS CLUSTER.
