Edit tried and it didn't work, rebooted cleared Google app cashe and data.

I don't see why not. When it comes to summoning it, it doesn't work any differently than Google Now.

Lame. I don't know what changes he makes, so I can't speculate as to why.

Wow downloaded and installed stock ROM, installed both files rebooted and still no assistant.
I about to give up.

Really? Wow. Maybe I just got lucky. I'm not sure why it doesn't seem to be working for anyone else. I installed the appropriate packages on my girlfriend's S6, and that didn't work either. Sorry if I mislead people.

Out of curiosity, does your phone pass safetynet?

Not sure Sir, after it didn't work I went back to my backed up CF Rom.

It's enabled on the server side.

So has anyone else got it to work?

Has everyone set up google assistant voice recognition?
Open up the google app and say "OK GOOGLE"
It should open up setup for google assistant voice recognition.
I use apex launcher and holding home opens apex settings for me.
However saying OK google on any screen now opens google assistant for me.
I'm Running AOKP with the newest version of the google app and google play services

Some more info about my phone, if it helps anyone:
Before I installed the packages, I had just about everything enabled that could be enabled for Google Now. On tap: on, feed: on, OK Google everywhere: on. The first time I started it was by holding down the home button, not by saying OK Google (but that works too).

Well after flashing stock Rom yesterday and installing both apk's to no avail.
Switched back to CF's 1.7 mm Rom got off play services beta and Google's beta then called it a night.
Woke up this morning and had gotten the official update while I was asleep ?.

Got it working on my stock turbo. Although I didn't download anything. Just woke up this morning and it was on my phone.
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

Ah okay. So looks like it's a moot point now.

I got it working by uninstalling updates to Google app and Google play services, and updating the Google app through the play store.
The next time i held the home button i got the assistant

Is it safe to manually install new version of Play services?

Hello,
Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask, sorry if it isn't.
I've noticed that after the lollipop upgrade I don't have the "smart lock" option in my settings->security. After digging through the www for a while it seems that I don't have the latest Google play services update (which brings the "trusted places" feature).
Is this correct? This is the reason I'm not seeing the "smart lock' feature?
Play store says I have the latest version (I currently have 436, which is NOT the latest version). Why? I got the play services update this morning and yet it's not the latest version. Should I wait a little longer for the update?
Is it safe to update the latest Google play services manually? apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-6-5-87-1599771-446-apk
Thanks in advance.

apk mirror is a site of android police to upload their apk's. i trust them and i installed stuff from there a lot of times. the apk signatures are correct and the apk update correctly to newer versions after the insallation. so it is a matter of trusting the source. i trust them so a lot of other readers.
android police is a serious site. so do your research about the site and decide for yourself if you are willing to trust them or not.
P.S. the reason that you don't have the latest version is that the roll out is usually done within the span of a few days to weeks depending of where you are. so the update will come eventually.

I always prefer to do the update the "regular way", via play store, so according to your advice I think I'll wait a little longer for the update.

for me the only reason to update via apk mirror is if i want to check something immediately. for example when the new google apps with material design was out i updated from there instead of waiting. i couldn't help my self

Well, in my case it's just a cool new feature I want to try out. I'll give it a few more days and if it won't come on it's own then I'll update it manually.
It's basically just getting the apk and running it (wherever it's located), correct?

you download the apk on your phone and install it like any other app. it is called side loading. there is an option under settings/security to allow you install apps outside the play store if you haven't done it already you must unclick it.

glad to help
For the Nexus 4 (with Lollipop), I believe this is the version you want from apk mirror:
Google Play services 6.5.87 (1599771-436)
Edit: the notes section on apk mirror explains the version naming/numbering for the Play Services apks. The last three digits indicate which version of Play Services is right for your device.
I was notified immediately after upgrading to L that my Google Services are outdated and I was redirected to Play Store before even could get to home screen. Maybe it only happens after standard OTA...?

It's perfectly safe, as it is the exact same version you will recieve from play store.
I'm not sure what the problem is anymore.
I looked at a friend's Nexus 4 that was also updated with Lollipop and he has the same Google play services build as me and he still gets the 'smart lock' option.
Could it be something with the settings on my phone? Maybe I need to do something in order to enable it? I've already tried enabling a security lock screen but that didn't help.

Just Got Update
I just received Beta Version N-MR1 (NPF10C). Settings-About Phone shows Android Version 7.1.1. Support is listed as another heading under Settings.
Came thru over OTA, install went smooth, phone loaded smooth. Used the fancy new reboot button once, stuck in a boot loop. Recovery will not load either, just boot looping the google logo. Oddly cannot turn phone off in bootloader, it shuts down then starts itself up again to reboot loop, sorta funny yet annoying to have to flash back to 7.0 some bad karma here.

It's specifically only for the Pixel at this point. You can flash the Assistant mod, wipe app data, and you should get Assistant.

I used the flash method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879
I only flashed the build.prop zip, not the velvet one. Couldn't get Assistant to work when I flashed both.
Just took OTA 7.1 smooth. Camera is a little different but don't see a focus lock.

This could be really annoying specially at a new phone.
I know this is very uncomfortable (specially if you have done all the settings etc.) but the next steps would be factory reset or flashing the stock Honor 8 rom...
I solved the issue now.
I removed my google account and signed in again. but for the first time I had unmarked the auto sync option(Cause I hate auto-sync It was draining the battery on my nexus badly). Anyway This time I chose auto sync when it prompt before sign in to google account and It worked.
Thanks for the responses again

Is the new "Messages for web" feature showing up for you guys?

I just received the new update for the Messages app. But the Drop down list doesn't seem to contain the "Messages for web" option on it.
Both my Nokia 6 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge are running this exact same new version on em'. But they do have this option. What's happening? Am I the only one who is having this issue?

Are you running a custom ROM? The people who have replied to say they have it have all said they have stock, don't know yours.
According to this it is being released by handset which would explain why a custom ROM can't get it yet and would also make sense why an AndroidOne Rom would be first.
https://www.androidcentral.com/youre-not-only-one-who-doesnt-have-android-messages-web-client-yet
Also check your Play Store and see if you are certified, this could also be a reason Google have decided not to push it to you yet, actually that would make sense for the rollout.

See me edit above, next thing is to see if you are certified in Play Store, for some reason Google are not pushing it to your phone yet and I can only think it's not certified (check play store(hamburger>settings>last entry)) or not passing safetynet (an app can check this).

Is your bootloader still unlocked, this will trigger safetynet but don't just lock it or your data will be wiped!
safetynet being tripped will stop you getting a lot of apps unfortunately.

Ok, I don't understand why but I don't have the option to use liveview. It's very useful to calibrate without moving a rotating the phone like a stupid in public.
Idk if it has to do with the fact that I have bootloader unlocked with root.
If anyone knows how to solve please help me!

I'm afraid I have to correct mayself - it USED to work on my unlocked + rooted 8P but when I tried it just now I also didn't get that option.
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with us having unlocked the bootloader + rooted the device ... but I do recall there having been 1 or 2 updates for Maps in the last few weeks and I'm guessing 1 of those removed that option, for whatever silly reason. It's Google after all and they don't need reasons to remove or cripple any app

No idea, esp. since I don't know when exactly the option even disappeared.
I guess there's no harm in trying, just remember to disable Playstore updates for Maps once you find a version that has it again. Let me know if you get it working btw, now I'm curious myself

I have the same problem. I remember the live view option working on OOS 11 , now, on the last version (12), nothing
I created a post on the official forum to know if it's my device fault, without answer: https://community.oneplus.com/thread?id=1143024798105337860
I remember something like this happened in the past with pixel devices, and was solved by google on a maps update, so... looks bad for us :S
edit: my Oneplus 8 pro is NOT rooted (never) and os version is 12.1 (c.33)
I'm rooted and with IN2023-11-C.33. Google maps with live view without any problems here (Europe)
