Great, but what about Capricorn (MI5S)? You found something about that?
Amazing, great news!
nice! pls capricorn, too
without source code ist hard
wow.... amazing
Hoping for capricorn (mi5s)
Good news as you can't rely on Xiaomi to release software updates.
Already forked for capricorn from @jpg3927 =)

As far as I understood from other people, they are using source code from mi5 for the build
Why capricorn_2 in https://github.com/nazunamoe/android_device_xiaomi_capricorn_2 ?
Is there a build ?

Hi,
From what I see here, it's too late...
OK, Xiaomi released some source code, but so far it still has to be confirmed that it can be used "as is"...
Which means : "Without dedicating too much efforts to fix what has to be fixed".
But it's been some days now, and... 14 posts on xda, and from only 4 or 5 different people.
Let me translate : "No one is interested in this device and, even if some custom ROM will happen eventually, they'd better be good out of the box because no one will care about fixing the bugs".
Sorry if I sound somewhat pessimistic, but this is the way I feel about this...
And I really wish I'll be proven wrong.

Hi,
What I mean is, that from what I see, developpers have lost interest in the mi5s and the mi5s Plus.
It has taken too long for Xiaomi to release source code.
So they turned to something else...
If there would be interest in development for those devices, this thread would be overflowed with posts already.
And don't give me a : "It's only been three days".
14 posts in 3 days, and that only from 5 people and only to ask things not really related to source and is it's usable or not ?
As much as I love the mi5s Plus (I even traded my 4/64 for a 6/128 one !) I think I will have to stick to MIUI (which won't be a really hard work... After changing the launcher and adding some XPosed modules, I don't even notice it's MIUI anymore ... or will have to use a "crippled" ROM.
But of course, I really wish I am mistaken... And would love to hear "Hey, the source is working OK. Build whatever ROM you want".
Regards.

I totally agree. I wonder who has info on this.
One of the major criteria for a device to have official omni rom is to have a dedicated device maintainer.. so if u have a dedicated developer who can participate ..... omni is open source ...

Yup. In the early days of omni, some guys were working on the d2 family, but I don't think I've seen any recent activity there.
I have been eagerly waiting for Omni Rom for the loving d2att devices. Have been requesting different devices for building something for our device, till date no success.
Hope someone stand up and do something for our device

I'm a developer and I'm building Cyanogenmod 12.1 for the Redmi Note 2 and FYI I compiled this myself . I'm not that kind of people that repack roms. I'm currently busy at the moment but I will try my best to release it on Thursday. I already have a successful build and everything looks quite good. I just need a add a few more tweaks before I release. Hope you guys are interested and I will make a post in the development section as soon as I get pass the ten posts threshold.

really interesting, you should be really a good dev if you made it to boot on a device without sources..or at least have some leaked source
Sounds great, really appreciate this work. Is there a chance we can have a nice detailed OP when it is ready (i.e. What's Working/Not Working or at least Known Bugs, Changelog, download links, install instructions etc.)? I've come to the RN2 from an S4 and the JDC Team were exemplary when it came to that (see here for an example), it makes it easier to see everything at a glance rather than searching through the thread. The thread about Bule's build (over here) is a bit of a mess...

Where is this repo? I thought nothing was released by the current devs.
Is there anything you plan to add to your build to set it apart from Bule's? I've been running his for a couple of days (12.1-20151211, not the one with additional stuff on NeedRom), and it's been virtually flawless. Apart from having to flash GApps separately, it has left little to be desired.
Hey, everyone.
I bought my Mate 8 about two weeks ago. After my personal HTC-Desaster over the last year, i couldn't be happier.
The only thing, that keeps me wondering, is this current OS...
Sooooo, i'm saying it out loud to start the discussion ...
Does anyone know, if and when cm13 for the Mate 8 will be released?
Don't be so much disappointed, if answer will be "never" ))

Maybe, they will change their mind? I mean so many producers first said, they would never share the code, and suddenly they did.
I guess this is the dividing line...
I'm usually the one recommending phones to people and this phone is a great one, however, if there is no potential to get any AOSP/CM based ROMs on this device, then it is doomed from my recommendation on a large scale.
We should start a petition to change this, but I don't know who will join and if we will be loud enough to get them to listen.
What is the main blocker in this? Source code, vendor blobs, proprietary something-er-other? Is the Kirin impossible to get working because of proprietary drivers? Sounds like we just need more higher level devs to crack this? Maybe we can start a bounty to buy a phone for a dev that has a track record of cracking this kind if issue? Just brainstorming.

I agree. On my last phone, HTC One M8, I have used CM for maybe a week TOTAL in 21 months. I have also used Google Play Edition ROM for maybe 2 months. I did not mind Sense ROMs as the performance was best with these, and they had good features as well.

Damn..
Have used CM13 on Samsung S4. Rom: great. Camera: worse.
Have used CM13 on LG G3. Rom: great. Camera: worse.
Have used CM13 on LG G4. Rom: great. Camera: worse.
Camera drivers are also often propietary. So if (will probably never happen) CM13 becomes a possibility for the Mate 8 there is always that issue as well.
I'd rather run a custom stock Rom with proper camera than an AOSP one without. And the Mate 8 is fast enough to be a great device, when using another launcher like Nova or Apex for example.
As always: YMMV, of course
have you guys seen this?
Lets get this straight! i really like the overal UI and its new notifications control, storage, PiP mode, multi windows, more apps advance control, etc, and wrapped up with nicely smooth and its fluidity! i agree oreo brings more complexity for user exp,, Yes, we've seen this yet on 8.0 and should be upgrade to 8.x.x periodically.
no, this isnt day dreaming,, i would like to know the chances we could have all the new android oreo running on our devices. 0, 25, 50% percentages, doesnt matter,, i really would like to know..so please share your thoughts! newbies, experts are always welcome, and of course active developers are expect to give comments or just their point of views aswell.
Be realistic is good , but there always hope!
**I dont see any insultments, sarcastic words, false argue or even play as mr. always right..between realistic, optimistic and pessimistic sides as usefull comments. so please bear in mind**
thanks a bunch!

Does this mean it will now be possible to have newer roms for this devices? (at least as recent as the redmi note 3 pro is getting)
it's funny how this got released ... 3 years late... not sure how many devs are willing to touch this with a ten foot poll at this point. but ok, better late then never i suppose
i'm glad to hear that. new hope for hennessy
I new custom rom for this device would be usefull. You can't even install latest google apps anymore. Mine is like brand new, new display, back cover and battery. It's about time someone would pick it up from the dust.
Anyone started a new project based on this?
