Is there an official Nougat for A2017G yet - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I know there's a B10 on the German ZTE site, but is there an official Nougat yet, its taking so long for the OTA, I've not even had a B10 OTA yet!!
Why do ZTE treat EU customers so badly?

There is no official nougat yet for the A2017G.
The B10 is MM.

I hope we will soon receive Nougat. Keen to play around with Daydream.

Hmm its a bit of a joke, I wonder why ZTE see EU as so insignificant.
I'll never buy another ZTE phone again, the EU marketing was also dreadful, I can't speak for the rest of Europe but honestly the ZTEUK Twitter feed was loaded with requests on when the phone will be available, they never gave an answer other than we will tell you when it is, I eventually got one off Amazon through a third party, I should have known it would be like this and could kick myself.
Customer service has to be one of the worst I've ever come across, and the sheer arrogance of ZTE as a company not listening to very high percentage of people on ZTEUS asking for a stock Nougat, they pretend to care, but don't give a stuff what people think at all really.
This has turned into a bit of a rant, sorry about that.
Its just so infuriating!!

You are better off on MM. Ask the US users about their B15 Nougat experiences, I am currently using Nougat on my EU device. It's very laggy (especially Whatsapp and Firefox, my main 2 apps).
I hope that ZTEMobileDE will be pushing the chinese 7.1.1 version instead of the buggy 7.0 US version.
ZTE as a whole has been very fragmented with their whole EU/US/CN market, but us Europeans have been better off in my opinion, our updates have never been buggy. US feels like a Beta test and chinese people weren't able to use playstore for a while .Let's hope us EU users will get to experience a polished nougat version.

Well it's not the same per se but I'm using the [ROM] Bad Boyz ZTE Axon 7 US ROM | N | MAGISK Root| MAGISK ROM | v 2.1| 3.2.17 By chas123 on my A2017G paired with 3/3/2017 || Axon 7 (msm 8996) || CPU, VM, RAM, IO "Tweaks" By warBeard_actual and [Kernel] BeastMode Kernel vR26 B15 based (A2017U) By freeza, and it works like a charm, zero complaints really.
It is worth unlocking the device just for this in my opinion.

In my opinion, since there's no Xposed for Nougat yet it can wait as much time as necessary. The most important thing is to receive the 7.1.1 version with no bugs.

Updated to B10, everything is pretty much the same, was hoping for the audio to have improved, but its still much lower than its meant to be, yes its OK, but really to have it in Max volume is more than doable, so their isn't any headroom. I have to have it on at least 80% for it to be normal.

Are you talking about the earphones or... speakers volume?

Oh sorry I should have been more specific, the headphones.
The external speakers are great and always have been for me.

Official one should be out in a month I think.
They're in beta testing now on 7.1.1, I haven't had any bugs or problems so far, other than the charging seems to be slower than 6.0.1.

So you're beta testing for the EU nougat?

Hi, A2017G model user here,
Would like to get some advice after my local service centre gave me really bad service.
-I am unable to update my software to ANY software version. Currently on B02. Got damn really pissed off when the person at the service centre said that B02 is the latest version.
-i cant update to any version- whether lineage OS, official software updates. NOTHING.
I live in Singapore, others who got the Axon 7 are already at B03 or higher, while I was told that B02 was the latest version when B10 is already out.
All I get it Error at side load installation aborted at 25 percent
Can a tech expert here help? OEM unlocking is already enabled

Download it from here: http://www.ztedevice.com/support/detail?id=98CEB24F9FFD433EA99EC424163149A6
Extract the update.zip from downloaded file and place on your sdcard. Pull down status bar and check for updates and install. O yeah don't unlock your bootloader!!!

I have already done that. Not getting any notification to update. It's in the root of my SD card. Force recovery wouldn't update either-or gives me a side load error at 25 percent

Beta is here: https://ramonkoopman.stackstorage.com/s/kym5c03hAejToNT

I downloaded and installed Nougat for A2017G directly after tthey announced it on the german homepage.
It does not seem to be a beta. . . or maybe a "final" beta.
The build.prop inside the zip shows Feb.15th.
It is running smoothly. No Daydream yet. Seems they focussed on the technical OS functions.
3G and 4G working far better and several other improvements concerning energy management and so on, as far as I can see now.

I tried this Beta, and ran smoothly except that I could not get data with one of my SIM Cards (Prixtel.. an MVNO of SFR in France).
The other SIM worked fine (inc. data) - I tried taking one out and I tried swapping positions - but still no data with Prixtel.
APN is the one that was working OK in MM B10.
Hopefully I can fall back to B10 by rerunning the B1o update file.

Doesn't work i tried. Been a day since that update package is in the SD card. Does it have to do with the Google now launcher I'm using instead of the MiFavor launcher?

6.0 and emui 4 please

Well I just got my honor 5 and wanted to upgrade the software, emui says it's 3.1 and when I put the check for updates it says there are no available. Nether when I check my lollipop 5.1.1 to got to Marshmallow. No upgrade available.
My cellphone was one of the Prime Day 120 bucks, KIW-L24c56.
Is there something I should do? I know very few of cellphones, but at least my moto g2 asked me itself to upgrade to Marshmallow which I did, apparently this has Marshmallow upgrade also but nowhere to be found.
Than you.
Wait for it its not fully out yet.. it takes some time.

Check out this thread. It gives detailed instructions to download the official update and install it.
im checking the hihonor website and there is no 6.0 upgrade
Is it just me or no one else can see it ?
http://www.hihonor.com/us/support/
Well... so far no luck upgrading.
I'm new in this subforum (just got my KIW-L24 last night) and have no idea what the "-c56" on your model number is so hopefully I'm not wasting your time, but
I was able to update mine to marshmallow using this update package that was provided in this thread.
Just make a "dload" folder on your internal storage and extract the update file from the zip to it. Then in system update on the phone, hit menu and local update... should walk you through from there.
Hope this helps!
well apparently Huawei pulled out the update because there were some issues with the phones, they are gonna work on it and put the update on L24 with Marshmallow 6 and Emui 4 back when everything is resolved.

Did you hear this from Huawei? I'm thinking the same thing and posted this in another thread, but was wandering if it was officially a problem.
See below:
They have removed marshmallow from the site. It's not official, but I believe they are doing some work to it. It was extremely laggy and had poor battery life and performance compared to lollipop. I reverted back after running it.
You guys would be better off waiting to see what repairs are done to it.
When you click on the support site, look to the right under manuals
http://www.hihonor.com/us/support/
You will see how to rollback officially from Marshmallow, if there were no problems, I'm pretty sure that would NOT be listed the same day marshmallow was removed from the site

Yea, I wrote to them and they replied me that there were some issues regarding the update. One day there was the update and the other it wasnt, so I asked them and they said their engineers are looking into it and as soon as possible its gonna be back posted on the website.
amazing how these buggy updates make it through testing to get released, beyond belief & biggest drawback with current phones is crappy firmware & apps , programming, testing & design rules needs massive improvement ...
Android itself is big part of problem ...
Funny how CM has a better software compared yo such big brand Honor/Huawei
Just now at the Honor US support site.
There is this

yea I just entered the website and saw it too.
Im gonna wait a while to see if things are patched, apparently the patch is the same as the one before so Ill wait a bit until people test it out.

well I got 6.0.1 and new Emui in my cellphone OTA. Just this morning I got an update and after downloading and installing it was the new version.
Phone seems a bit laggy and not as fast as 5.0, is this normal for 6.0? Or just me?

Is this android N update legit?

Recently when I was searching for Android N update on ZTE axon 7 I found this site: a9droid.com/zte-axon-7-android-nougat-7-0-update . Android N is main reason I haven't bought axon yet so I'm really interested in installing it, but this website seems very suspicious. Is it even possible to install stock Android(that's what I suppose they do) on ZTE phone?
Words of advice: If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. Please be careful when browsing through questionable websites and do not believe everything to read. Stick to XDA-Developers.com and you should be fine.
That site is utterly untrustworthy. It doesn't give any info on how to update (hint: that's because there is no nougat update yet), tells you how complicated it is and how you need tech-savvy friends or a repair shop to do it for you and then says "if all of that is too complicated for you, there's this magic apk from our website "that will transform your device into latest Android Nougat interface". Best case scenario: they're writing a bunch of bull**** in order to get traffic to their website. Worst case scenario: that apk has malware instead of just Google's launcher.
Okey. So are there any news about the official update? Axon is advertised as first daydream ready phobe and android N is part of phone being daydream ready...
ZTE haven't released a Nougat rom yet so why would some random site have it?
Just got an update on the Chinese Axon 7, B10. Still 6.0.1...

US Tablet User - Can I get to Nougat?

Hi all, I'm a US user with W09 and would like to get it to Nougat - I have read the entire "Update to EMUI 5.0" thread and there appeared to be several possible routes, but most were regarding the European version.
I have a US Wi-Fi model and have no allegiance in keeping it a US one, if there's a way to remove the regional aspect to gain access to the update (BETA or otherwise).
I would greatly appreciate if someone who has some experience with or is very confident of the correct path would shed some light for me.
Thank you!

I've just finished reading the entire thread linked above that mentions that method a number of times, so I'm certainly familiar with it, but haven't tried it because sprinkled throughout that thread are plenty of issues encountered. Also, there's no mention of US hardware/firmware specific instructions.
I'm on W09 as mentioned in the OP - thanks for the reply!

I'm away from my tablet at the moment but will do later on when I get home.
We will see after that what we can do. I have updated my tablet to Nougat, but I have BTV-DL09 (4G European version).
To change region I think you have to unlock bootloader.

What's the advantage to switching from US to EU roms? I unlocked, rooted, enabled 5ghz band for wifi, and now only need nougurt but much like the original poster not sure the best route.

The advantage of removing the US stock rom is that the European one has a beta available that is very stable. My thread is seeking someone who's confident of the steps to 1st going European & 2nd installing nougat once there, as there was some debate of complexity to doing even that.
I've been through exactly what you are wanting to do @dutchdoggs54 . Unfortunately I can't tell you step by step how I got to where I'm at.
I was on W09128BXXX out of the box . Read the topic that you have linked in your first post and decided to do it using firmware finder to force the update to Nougat as they described. It actually went very well and Nougat worked great with the exception of Bluetooth not working.
I have to say during the upgrade when it booted into recovery and it was TWRP I was concerned. Believe it had an error but it worked and replaced TWRP as I recall with a stock recovery.
So after all that I decided I wanted my tablet branded as a BTV-W09C100B006. Below is the topic where a member thought they bricked their tablet.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m3/how-to/bricked-m3-btv-w09-t3612699
They were given directions to download the Full update package for the version I just mentioned.
This member got their tablet working again and in the process found that 5Ghz wifi is enabled on C100B006 by default.
That was the main reason I rooted my tablet.
I followed the directions knowing I force install a different version of Nougat from your link.
Downloaded the full version software and dropped it in the dload folder on my US tablet and did the upgrade.
Tablet rebooted and shortly after it rebooted again going to recovery (I tried may times to boot). Don't recall the error but after I unlocked my bootloader again it reset the tablet and I was able to access it again. I did relock the bootloader so I can see updates without any problems after that.
In the end I got what I was after. My tablet shows as a BTV-W09C100B006 and can check for updates.
5Ghz wifi is enabled by default. As I said I relocked the bootloader so I'm not rooted. Overall it's works so well I'll wait for Nougat to get released and then do the official upgrade. After the scare of booting to recovery it was worth every nervous minute of it.
Try to talk to OP from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/...-root-t3374068
Maybe he can make this app available to Mediapad M3, then changing OEMINFO will be easy.
I posted a question there.
No luck
Ok, so I tried following @Samavb's great instructions and guidance in the other thread last night. Made it all the way to the point where he says to install 009 from the Huawei website - got it downloaded and loaded up on the tablet only to find that it wouldn't install because the 009 file on the website is BTV-DL09 not the BTV-W09 version a US tablet would need.
So I got frustrated and tried installing the B301 build that appeared on firmware finder when I was on the W09-006 build...this was nougat and was cool but no keyboard and the play store wouldn't install anything, so I was forced to revert back to 006.
So, long story short, hours of work have confirmed that there doesn't appear to be a way to get a US tablet to fully functional Nougat at the moment. If there was a 009 or 010 build like Samavb mentions for the US model, maybe it would work, but those aren't anywhere to be found - firmware finder, russian site he mentions or otherwise.
So, I'll happily sit on 006 and wait for a US OTA update. That is unless anyone can tell me exactly how to make this US model into a European model.
Same boat as original poster. US w09 on build c128b003. Firmware finder just finds the same version. Anyone know when there might be a us version update released. I thought it was supposed to be may so have been waiting patiently.....but may is over.

In Firmware Finder select the menu in the top left corner. (3 bars)
Right below your model number, select change model and enter BTV-W09C100 and then search.
You should see B301 and it's a full OTA. However, as I understand it this is just a beta/test release.
Only issue I had with it, bluetooth didn't work. Seeing as how I don't use it, didn't bother me.
I highly recommend you fall back to the other topic about forcing the upgrade to Nougat.
Only difference from my tablet and yours. I was on C128B002. I had already rooted and couldn't get that update.
Also US 64gb version here and hoping for an update to Nougat and EM5. Would love to see it!
Huawei have been quite attentive for updates in other markets which is great. Too bad the non-LTE version in US doesn't get the same love.
Buying this tablet was a roll of the dice for me, banking on the hope that Huawei would be attentive to software updates (for all markets) and custom ROMs could serve as back up/enjoyment. This tablet has solid hardware and with another launcher it is decent.
Sadly, my experiment to try out a non-Nexus device without the latest (or close to pure) Android version is coming to an end. The last M3 sold on Swappa went for around $300.

from what i gather. if you're going from MM to Nougat, you need to install the Full OTA. for that, there are 2 files, you will need both of them. from there, i'm not sure.

A2017G updates?

Hi,
I just received my A2017G from Gear Best a week ago to replace my crappy Asus Zenfone 3. So far the Axon 7 has out performed the Zenfone 3 in a number of important areas and I mostly like it. However, it is still on Android 6.0.1 with B11. That is nearly a year old now but I cannot find any OTA updates. I had found the B05 update on ZTE's site, is that safe to install? Any show stopping problems or bugs with that? Is there a newer and/or better one? I do not want to screw up my brand new phone that is bought to replace a screwed up Zenfone 3 which had bad updates and Asus not fixing the bugs their updates introduced. In the past, I had phones and tablets being turned to crap after updates so I am weary about applying any updates.
Is it possible to install the A2017U firmware onto my A2017G phone without root? I do not want to root as I had bricked a brand new phone in the past by rooting.

Look, you should have no problem updating via official channels. If anything does happen, simply with a 4gb SD card you can fix it. And if it bricks you can use MiFlash most of the time, so don't worry about official updates. The risky part is TWRP and that kind of thing, though basically that's what we are here for...
ZTE's OTAs are hopelessly broken, they only work if you are on certain locales and system versions, but fortunately they made a pretty okay update system.
Before doing anything, check that your phone is an A2017G by looking at the back. If it's from GearBest it should be an A2017G, but many times people bought an A2017 with A2017G firmware and lost the signal while updating with an A2017G package.
The latest version is B09 for the A2017G. It's from Sweden but it works on any G.
DO NOT INSTALL A2017U or A2017 UPDATES ON YOUR PHONE UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE SIGNAL AND MAYBE YOUR IMEIS.
There is a special method to install U firmware on the G but it involves modifying zips and unlocking the bootloader.
For the A2017G B09 update, simply go to raystef66's Download center and download the B09 update zip. Then just put it on the root of the internal storage and go to Updates, and it should pop up as an OTA
For the future: If you download one of these update zips from ZTE, you will get a zip with a bunch of numbers as the name. The actual zip that you want is inside that zip, and it's called update.zip.
What Raystef66 does is get that zip, unpack it, rename it to something understandable, and upload it to androidfilehost. So you're better off geting your updates from there

Thanks for such a detailed answer. I can confirm that mine is the A2017g version as it says so both on the back and on the box.
Is there any major problems with the B09 update? The reason I am very weary about updates is Asus broke the Bluetooth, camera focus and even the phone's charging with their updates and did not fix it for months. This is the reason I got the ZTE Axon 7 and I do not wish to break it as it is functioning perfectly at the moment.

That happened with the first 3 Nougat versions. B01 was somewhat okay, B02 broke a couple things, and B03 fixed those but destroyed Google services. Ever since B03 we've been mostly bug-free, and they weren't too slow to fix stuff anyways
I've run B04 B08 and now B09 and to be honest, not seen a real difference between them, all stable. Phone works good. I did have to fix my APN settings a little after the B08 update but that's easy.
Nougat B09 wifi issue
ello everyone, my name is John, live in Romania. I own an axon7, A2017G from Gearbest, just updated from MMB11 to Nougat, B09, using info from here, thanks. One problem though, onMM it would connect at 866 mbs to my 5GHz network, and test just below 400mbs. On Nougat, it connects at 433mbs and tests around 260 mbs. No change tot the router, not even restart. Do you know how to correct this? Maybe older version of N? Have a nice day. Your help here is invaluable...
Maybe check settings for location as different countries have a different range of channels etc.

Hello,
What do you mean? Like regional settings (language)? There are no location related options in wifi settings... Maybe I could find some settings in hidden menu, but I don`t know how to access that... In developer options, I couldn`t find anything related.
Have a great day

Nah, I think it's a known problem. Maybe make a thread about this, I remember that there were some people talking about this before

Thanks a lot! Just updated to B09, everything seems fine at the moment. Took no more than 30 minutes from starting download to finishing. Very easily done. Just need to relearn all the differences, luckily I only had this phone for a week now only.
Anyone tried Pokemon Go with B09?

Yeah, I already tried 3 versions of Nougat, B06, B08, B09 and it is the same on all if them. If i flashed MM B11 again, then it would connect at 866mbs again. I have sent an email to zte support... Anyway, now I am on B09 N, but it seems phone is a little warm all the time...has anyone else experienced that?
Thanks for answer, have an interesting day.
Different between Nugat B09 and B11

Basically the differences are Nougat, improved camera with RAW, Daydream, and maybe some more stuff but i don't remember.
I can't live without the double tap on Recents and I believe performance is better on Nougat, but aside from that and security patches MM is still okay
Oreo seems to be confirmed.

Hi, 260 mbs and 866 mbs are the same speed actually, so there is no need to worry about the sideload speed. Thanks!

Hello William, thanks for the answer.
I reversed to MM B11 now, but there is a problem in the mi favor launcher, when accessing google apps folder, the launcher crashes and after 3 crashes it resests all view and icons? Why?
I will flash Nougat, I live in Romania...which variant should I flash, the B05 which is for Romania, on ZTE support page, or B09 (Sweden)?
Thanks have a great day and happy holidays.

Salut ciumurel!
I'm using the Swedish B09 with digi.mobil and I have no network connectivity issues whatsoever.
Hello rzarechta,
I am also using axon 7 on digimobil...do you have a 5GHz wifi network? On mine, it connects at 866mbs and scores around 350 mbs in speedtest, on MMB11 but on Nougat, it connects at 433mbs and only scores around 250mbs. Do you have some advice, an alternative for the gallery apk, for the axon? It is horrible, does not show which albums are on sd card and which on phone storage...I also don't like google photos...
Thank you very much for helping.

Next time read before doing With 7.1 there is no longer bootloader mode. Downgrade to 6. Also you dont need to unlock it, there is no better ROMs for this rom. Official one is best. I tried them, so you can save time and use official one.
ALso root not working well with it. I had root but somehow i couldn't delete system apps.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread, if so, I can start another.
I recently purchased this phone (B2017G) from Gearbest as well.
It is still on 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I have been searching for the right update file, starting with the US version, since that is where I live, but no go. The bootloader says
"E footer is wrong
"E:signature verification failed
"E: open file /cache/fota/error_code error erno = 2
'Installation aborted'
Am I right in thinking I need to find the update with the right signature? I have tried US, Austrian and Russian official ZTE updates with no success so far.. Am I on the right track?
US ZTE Support was as helpful as they could be, but were not familiar with the GearBest global variant. They sent me to the global support site, which won't let me use it, since I'm from the US, lol
Any suggestions? I'm going to try the German update from earlier in this thread after I get home tonight, by the way...
I also purchased mine from Gearbest (B2017G). I believe the phone is for the European market as it comes with a EU plug in the sealed box, but not sure for which country. I tried the firmware for the Spanish model http://www.ztedevice.com/support/detail?id=D4454D33442F45E192A95718509F4586. The update failed.
I just flashed the Nougat 7.1.1 an hour ago from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73257562&postcount=13.
It already looks promising - the phone is very cool after update. Previously the phone is always warm, even in standby. I hope the battery life is a big improvement.
If you intend to flash this zip file, make sure your phone is a European model B2017G. As posted before I got this phone from Gearbest as many others.
Hi,
Updated to 7.1.1 by OTA 3 weeks ago when i bought the phone from Amazon.
It seems that we'll get Oréo later...amazing ! thks ZTE !
It is not official that Axon 7 Mini (B2017G) will get Android 8 aka Oreo. ZTE should do the update to Oreo as this is one popular phone still.

In a chat with ZTE USA assistance last week, the tech mentioned that Oreo will be rolling out for the Axon 7 Mini in the US.

Once you downgraded and rooted can you upgrade back and keep the root?
Root is needed for this phone because it doesn't allow to move ANY app to SD.I sort of recovered the backup of my apps and data with Helium without root, but I need more internal space: with root you can even enable adoptable storage.
If only we can get access bootloader and flash modified boot.bin with magisk...
At the moment I can only use it as backup phone, my everyday phone LG G5 has 7gigs of whatsapp stuff that can only be internal, but most part of the 130+ apps I got are shared in the SD card.
I don't even need TWRP actually, just root to move apps to SD (or a firmware that allows it, since it's a firmware option...ZTE decision)
Flashing nougat 7.1.1 is the best thing I've done - it basically fixed the battery drain. I had to charge 3 times a day before the update. Last night the battery was only down 3%. This morning I recharged it to 93% before I left for work. At 5pm after a days normal use, it still had 55% left. It's just amazing. I think the update flashed out all the nastiest including the suspicious apps that come with the phone. I have no idea what they are - 99003, 99033, 99035 and more. I suspect they are malware although I cant be sure. They consume battery and keep the phone awake. The phone was warm even in standby.

Stock one
Got the 7.1.1 update...
... in a round-about way. Went here http://www.ztedevice.com/support/detail?id=6CCC18CC9451416C8A01BED5174B5762#software and it downgraded my phone to a December 2016 security update.
Flashed the Russian 6.0.1, (had to use the bootloader method for both), then was able to run the Spanish update from ZTE, directly from the System updates menu after extracting the 'update.zip' file from the package and placing it in the root of the SD.
Now running 7.1.1 and happy. I can still access AT&T's US network perfectly, so I didn't destroy the usefulness of my new phone as a phone.
I may eventually put a second T-Mobile sim in it if I think I can live without the SD card's storage...
Edit: I am running a GearBest-purchased phone with 'global' firmware, meaning no official updates available. It is possible that I could have tried to use the Spanish 7.1.1 directly, but I didn't try that before taking the route I did. Just happy *something* worked!
Still no root? Even a firmware where I can patch boot.img with magisk and repack and flash?
I did it with Ulefone S8Pro, but because someone here posted the firmware and it was editable and flashable without getting errors! No TWRP, but who cares, I have adoptable storage and Is essential with those "low" internal memory phones....
A ZTE moderator on the official US site has disconfirmed my report of Oreo on Axon 7 Mini:

Please disregard my earlier reporting. Although my report was accurate as far as what I had heard, the rep I chatted with was likely mistaken.
