To flash the newest version of the 935u firmware over the recent 935t release does the phone need to be unlocked first?
no
No. But it better to unlock first since the T-mobile Unlock App won't work on the "U" version.
my s7 edge running android 6.0.1 , firmware version (G935VVRS4APH1) and i want to flash firmware (G935VVRU4BQG1) this is android 7.0 nougat, both is stock verizon firmware, are any problem? may i flash this firmware with Odin??
Does anyone have recent experience flashing carrier firmware to the unlocked (U1) model, especially on BL5? Does it still require combination firmware or can I just flash the latest AT&T firmware from Updato using regular Odin?
It would just be regular firmware from at&t. The same way if you wanna flash back to the unlocked firmware. No combination files are needed.

As long as the firmware number is the same or higher, yes. You may need a custom version of ODIN that doesn't check the OS on the device, but any US model can run any US version of firmware. I converted mine a short while after I bought it and it's been running 935U firmware ever since. I would warn you that you can't downgrade the bootloader, but in this case the A firmware is almost invariably more recent than the U firmware so this isn't an issue. (That said, you will have to run firmware built around BL8 or later if you do the upgrade)
Would it be possible to run a Galaxy S7 G930F with say a flash of the G930U firmware and open up the other LTE bands to use with Sprint?
Either that or is there any news on a possible root with the latest G930P bootloader? I didn't think there was any root options for the G930P's previous firmware so I upgraded it as it came out...
