LG to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat update to LG V10 and LG G4 later this year
LG is said to roll out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for LG V10 and LG G4 in the second half of this year
South Korean tech giant LG will offer Android 7.0 Nougat update to two of its previously launched smartphones- the G4 and V10 in the second half of 2017.
As per an IANS report, LG is planning to offer the latest software upgrade for the V10 in the second half of this year and for the G4 in the third quarter of this year. The reports also says that the above mentioned timeline applies to the phones sold in South Korea, and consumers who are using the specific models outside of the South Korea will be notified in a separate schedule later.
However, this scheduled update applies the two LG smartphones sold in South Korea. LG G4 and LG V10 global customers would be notified of a separate roll out later.
LG had earlier announced to discontinue support on the two smartphone including OS updates, citing the two phones are not optimized for Android Nougat OS. (How shameless LG can be?)
While the report says that LG will offer the latest update to the dated LG G4, we have our doubts as the handset has already been updated twice in past. LG V10 is no different as the smartphone has also received two OS updates. So take this news as a grain of salt and wait for an official update from the manufacturer.
LG started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update for LG G5 in the month of November and the company has announced the latest flagship LG G6 in the MWC 2017 last week. The smartphone features a 5.7-inch full vision 18:9 ratio display, Snapdragon 821 SoC, a 3,300mAh battery and runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. LG G6 is packed with a dual rear camera setup with 13MP sensors 125-degree wide-angle lens.

Better late than never as I intended to stay with this phone till late 2018!! wohoooooooooooo
Was wondering why english was so spotty, checking the link shows it's merely a translation from korean.
Whata ya know.... time flies by
I'll believe that when hell freezes over and/or when I'll see it running on my 815p.
Anyone else been getting "software update has stopped working" whenever the wi-fi/data is enabled? Problem seems to have started in alignment with this LG announcement.
On the plus side, we'll have a later security update to carry us beyond 2018 and it's not as if android 6.0 to 7.0 was a huge upgrade compared to 4.0 to 5.0.
I will also stick to this phone for at least a year so i am kinda happy, but LG...
On plus side, it seems that they listen to their customers.

lol thats a long wait for a device that is riddled with hardware problems, I dont think most of us will see that day.
Well, if this works well & isn't riddled with bugs, I might just upgrade to a new LG in a year or two.
They shouldnt pretend that they are doing people a favor. And then saying it was optimized for Marshmallow. You should at least get 2 speedy big software updates. I can't trust these companies that just discontinues devices that are flagships.

Give them chance at least, in development there's nothing like speedy updates, even here on xda it's one of main rules "no ETA"
God it would be amazing if we could get real LG Nougat. We all know this device (G4) can run Nougat, I myself has been running it for several months now. I just hope they ad UX5.0 rather than leave ux4.0 look.
Either way im on a sprint g4. Im sure it will be u rootable too. Just like mm. And some of lolipop. Im still on the second update ever released just so i can keep root.
Be nice to some some unlockable or crackable bootloaders in these suposed updates...
will you all keep dreaming and writing your thoughts here until the end of the year when we get the nougat source ?
and then what ? rename the thread to "curse LG" and start writing about the bugs until we fix them ourselfs ? ..........
I don't think this phone is gonna get nougat. They launched g6 in same time they announced that there is no nougat for g4. All over forums there was complaining about their statement for g4 so it would mean loosing customers for g6 because dropping support for not so old flagship. Lg is already lost bunch of customers with lg g5 so this would be too much for them. That is why the statement was changed so fast,to save this few loyal customers...and i think when time comes to update it will just be flashed down the toilet... I sure hope i am wrong because i wanna buy g4 again. It is great device overall, with all it's flaws.
why does all other companies make 2 updates than? HTC is almost dead and they updated 2015 flagship first if i am not mistaken.
If your logic would stand, they wouldnt even update their phones, just buy new phone every year.
Why does the article in OP state the G4 has been updated 2 times? Didn't the G4 start with Lollipop? Now we're on Marshmallow, that's one major update unless my math is off. However, since I bought mine last year I've done 5 updates but those were maintenance updates the last one was January security patch for example. The 5x runs fine on Nougat 7.1.2 from my experience and it was launched with and optimized for Marshmallow.
Corporate turds. Just do it already. I'm glad I'm not the only one outraged by their stating there isn't plans to update. Now they're doing it? Dunno.
I know that with he hard work of awesome people like Codeworkx & Genesixx we know how awesome Nougat os on thos device. I'm just scared of the in your face bloatware that could make the system just awful.
Ah, feels good to rant and keep it on topic! LOL
BTW correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the G3 AND the G2 both receive Marshmallow? Those old ass handsets!? Psssshhh, give us us Nougat!

Both mentioned phones received two major updates:
G2 from JB to KK to LP
G3 from KK to LP to MM
Following this logic the G4 should have the Nougat right about now without playing this "maybe we will update it by the end of year" bs....

I have posted this in reddit and wanted to share it here too. While I was browsing the LG SmartWorld site, I clicked the phone selection link on the right to choose the G3. After choosing the G3 and hitting OK, a dialog appears asking the operation system of the phone and there are options for Android 5.0 and Android L. I also checked this with other phones and these only appear in G3 models. Maybe a hint towards an early Lollipop update?
Now that's interesting. Hopefully it IS a sign we'll be getting it soon.
Interesting link i found
Came across this in a google search in regards to android l looks like early files for the new OS maybe just for the boot process so far.

Why when i go to smartworld web it says my device not supported?? I have d855 32gb
D855 shows Android 4.4 and ANL, I think that one big update is coming

dont think we will see L before 2015 definitely not before december 14
Do not expect many things.we are talking about LG the worst company in the updates. I wish to be wrong but something tell me that we will only see android L with the next release of lg g4. Lg usually brings the updates 3 months after Samsung and htc . Htc which promised fast update to m8 it states a few days ago that it will give the android L 90 days after received the stable version from Google. That means that the fast plan from htc is about 4 months from now. Guess now LG which slowest than a turtle.we are talking about 7 to 8 months. Which will be very near to the release of next g4. So it will wait a few months more to release the new g4 with the new lolipop experience. I wish to be wrong but lg has a very bad history.
LG G4 will be released with 4.4.....LG in a nutshell

Lol that has to be a joke from them. They can't even get the carriers to release anything. So yeah 6 month isn't so unrealistic. Even for canadien android releases

I have no faith in LG but if they update this phone to 5.0 it will sell more of these for them. So we might get lucky cause they are greedy.
I believe that it will take longer than 6 months to get out to carriers (At&t still is on 10d.) But it could be possible for the international versions.

I have been saying for months we will all be surprised (not just LG, but all major OEM's) about how quick Android L will roll out to the flagship devices, it will be the fastest roll out so far!

If all of these guys have not been working with the preview build code and getting all their ducks in a row, i would be SHOCKED. This is a new way for google to announce the OS and i think they did it to give OEMS time to get stuff ready for fast updates. Once final code drops, i wouldnt be surprised to see OEMS releasing for certifications from carriers within a month. At least HTC and samsung! lol But here is the thing i keep hoping for. Samsung used to be HORRIBLE with updates, then they figured it out and now are one of the fastest (HTC still has the crown). LG Could do the same. Especially with all the time they should have already had with the base code (not any MAJOR changes really even in this latest preview). Fingers crossed. As long as i have this phone long enough to actually see the update. My tmobile jump and a nexus 6 or note 4 are almost tempting me, but i love this phone!

Samsung will rollout Android M to Galaxy S6 in this fall
Galaxy S6 is the latest flagship from Samsung and is currently running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in some regions. According to reports, Galaxy S6 and Note 5 will be in the Samsung's top priority list to upgrade to Android M. Google is going to release the Android M OS in September or October. So Samsung will start building the Android M update for Galaxy S6 in October. The building process can take about a month and the South Korean tech giant will rollout the update to its latest Galaxy S flagship in November. But only Retail and unlocked editions of Galaxy S6 are receiving Android M update in November in some regions. Samsung may start the rollout first in Europe and North America.
Galaxy S6 with US carriers like T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint will receive the Android M update in December. Other carrier editions in Europe and North America may start the rollout by the end of this fall. In India and Middle east countries Samsung will start the rollout process in the starting of the next month.
Android M Release for Galaxy S6 Edge
Galaxy S6 Edge also receives the Android M update along with Galaxy S6. The South Korean tech giant will start the rollout of Android M to Galaxy S6 Edge in November. At first Retail and unlocked editions of Galaxy S6 Edge in North American and European countries will receive the update. Australian Galaxy S6 Edge users are also going to receive the update in November.
Carrier locked versions of Galaxy S6 Edge in the US and in some European countries will receive the Android M update by the end of this fall. In India and Middle East countries, Samsung will start the rollout in the beginning of next year.
Source?
I googled some of the content of the OP and the only return dealing with Android M was the OP itself. I wouldn't buy this rumor until we have a credible source like sammobile.
This is a given that Samsung will deliver M at some point but without a source it's completely unverified.
This is meaningless click bait written with zero specific information. Yes, the GS6 will get an M update at some point. Yes, Samsung will start working on it when M is finalized and available to OEMs in the fall. Yes, unlocked versions will get the update first followed by carrier versions. That's all just common sense. Everything else is speculation. I'm willing to bet that the update, once available for the unlocked S6, will be held up by carriers for at least as long as the 5.1 update has been.

Well it looks like it will get it by year end...so OPs timeline is kinda right

Speculation for EVERYONE!!!!!
I'll get the champagne.....ok sparkling wine
ok maybe just a bottle of soda then
So what if you can get Android M on our S6? At first you'll start rejoicing and showing off to everyone that your S6 has Android M, then you'll start complaining about how your old mods/**** that used to run on Lollipop don't work on Android M. This will be followed by complains about bugs, poor battery life and poor performance overall. Most consumers should understand that a new Android version will bring about bugs and in compatability with existing mods. So if you're going to update to a new version of Android, expect these kind of problems to happen. Don't go and complain about "this mod doesn't work" or "battery life is terrible". If you still want to use your existing mods you might as well stick to your current version of Android where everything works fine for you instead of updating to Android M and start complaining about it.
Android M, N, O, P, Q...who cares when all of it is [email protected]? We have nearly reached the end of innovation on smartphones and the software that runs them. Just look at PC's! They keep trying to put faster CPU's in these little things and they get so hot you can use the Gorilla glass as a frying pan! Maybe they should stop trying to waterproof them and make them Grease proof, you know, to keep the oil melting from our fingers from seeping into the electronics. They can't even get Lollipoop to work and now we are going to slam another worthless upgrade on top of it? And then you "probably" have to do a hard reset in order for it to even work at all? What a joke! And iOS is just as bad. All they all want is your $$$$$$$$. New phones, new Apps, new features, they don't work but NEW MONEY in their pockets. We're all suckers and we know it.

Marshmallow will start rolling out around the end of May/beginning of June.
But it's your choice. If you are considering the 5.5" variant, then it's the best out of the three.
Same if you are considering the 4.7" variant. It is still better than the G Stylo and Escape.

Idols are pretty solid phones for the price, it's gonna be kinda hard to beat them. Don't let the android version stop you, marshmallow or not they are great.
I personally have had really bad experiences with cheap lg phones, you'd be lucky if you get what you pay for.
If you do go for an lg other then a g3/4 I'd really suggest looking up multiple reviews first.

I have the LG Stylo from T-Mobile, and the idol international version on cricket, but using AT&T Apn with great success. In my opinion, the Stylo is a much more solid device, with removable battery, incredible memory management, and already has marshmallow. The idol can't be beat for music though, and hopefully marshmallow will fix high all the time memory usage. Just don't get the cricket version of either of these, as the hardware and software are lesser. I happily use both, and have Google voice for handling the number integration. Have the idol on cricket's inexpensive plan, and it comes in handy when I travel to have AT&T service [emoji51]

I have had this phone through Cricket since Nov. 2015, and i loved it until the patch came through. I have now had to have it replaced twice because it will turn off on its own, when i try and use Google play music it locks the phone screen immediately. I think all of the bugs are A) due to Crickets bloat wear or B) due to the bugginess of 5.0.2. Has anyone else experience any flaws and glitches? I LOVED this phone up until this point and now i want to throw it at a wall, or move back to the ZTE Max Plus (2) since it just dropped.
Been reading through xda and other websites for a while now and i gotta say, I'm very disappointed with how long it takes LG to release oreo for the G6. No beta program, no info of when they are planning to release, not even a leaked oreo for LG flagship device. Last year LG was one of the first to release Nougat for the G5, this year pretty much every mobile phone manufacturer has already released oero for their phones (final or beta) and LG... Well... Hasn't!!! Maybe we should remind LG that they released the G6 phone, cause they're so quiet about oreo update for it, it feels like they've forgotten they put a flagship device called LG G6 out on the market. Soooooo disappointing :/
Mind that they released no update for European G6 for more than 4 months, maybe in April we will receive march patch, and Oreo when P will be announced... Lol

Now that's more like it. Has it been released in Korea for beta-testing or anything like that?? Those screens.... Are they made by LG or someone from outside the company got the ROM for testing and shared the screens?

Any KDZ Link of Android Oreo Beta For G600K. TIA

Nope. On android 8.0 we will stay very long time.
I'm not holding my breath for 8.1 on Verizon. This will be the last non Google phone I buy. I almost bought the Pixel instead of this phone. I bought the G6 on launch day.

Can someone download and upload it for h870 ?
In my humble opinion we shouldn't be holding our breath. Most customers of these phones are not techie freaks like us, and don't really care about the underlying OS version, especially because the LG skin provides a lot of additional features anyway. I think LG knows this, and what most interests their customers is that their phones just work quickly, reliably and smoothly, with the features they have. LG probably couldn't give a hoot about us nut cases who can't wait to get their hands on the latest OS version that somebody else has.

Funny thing... Not long after i created this topic, comes a post from liushangrong with screenshots of a 19a preview oreo build for LG G6. Korean website and screens from Korean G6 running oreo. I've never seen those screens before, has anyone of you guys? I can only think of 2 things here.
1. Coincidense
2. LG know they're late with oreo update and have their employee keeping an eye out for any signs of disappointment here on xda, and if such is seen, giving a proof of oreo update being worked on.
Sounds crazy? Maybe, but it's just something that came to my mind :/

They just don't know how to communicate.
Others are selling craps, but they are communicating, keeping hype alive.
This is a sad day to be sure. This makes users now totally reliant on custom ROMs to receive updates.
May the G5 and the V20 live on, better than ever before.

The most upsetting thing is that this post is not about updates to include new features, but safety patches: this means that a device like the G5, released in 2016, received only two years support for security. If we compare it to PCs, Windows XP was released in 2003 and it will stop this year receiving security updates: 16 years of security updates.
I'm glad they released first Nougat and then Oreo for the G5, and I'm ok if they don't release Pie, but only 2 years of security patches is far from being acceptable.
Very dissapointing. How can they be so blind and ignorant. I bought the LG G5 because it was the last flagship phone with a removable battery and expandable storage, also first one with the wide angle lens. With this phone, LG striked me as a creative and ambitious phone manufacturer that is not afraid to do stuff differently. In their last three flagships they just followed the trends, and didn't innovate at all. Suffice to say, I will never recommend someone to buy an LG ever again, as I may have before.

What's worse is not all carrier variants received Oreo, or even two years of security updates. If LG has fully abandoned the G5 already, that means the Sprint LS992 was left on Nougat with a security patch of February 2018 - less than two years after the April 2016 launch.
The unlocked RS988 was also left with only two updates ever, one for the KRACK security vulnerability and one for Nougat. The Nougat update was released very late in May 2018 but was only security patched up until March 2017 according to LG's website - less than one year of security. (I suppose LG expects users to take advantage of the unlocked bootloader to apply their own custom ROM and security updates, however those users who wanted this variant simply to be free from/compatible with any carrier are paying a premium only to get even less official support.)

My RS988 got the December 2017 security update on January 3, 2018 which is slightly better than your statement. Still makes me mad that it doesn't look like I'll get Oreo or even a final security update to plug any holes found in 2018. It's not a very popular device so I doubt the community will support many ROMs for it.

Thanks for the response. I double checked the website for that model number as well as the T-Mobile and Sprint variants (which I could confirm are accurate as I own those.) Indeed, only RS988 software info is inaccurate on their site, which is a roundabout commentary in itself on how little LG cared to support that version in any way, shape or form.

Totally agree. The RS988 has always been a low priority. LG probably should have never released it if they didn't have plans to support it. It just turns into another black mark on their already poor history of timely updates.
Really putting end to any hope they lg would release a bootloader unlock for their no longer relevant flagships, huh
Well, that's a bummer. I kept hoping it would get 8, but the software support didn't even outlast the original battery.
I now see that G5 and V20 came back to the list on the following page:
https://lgsecurity.lge.com/security_updates_mobile.html
My korean G5 was still receiving updates as of last feb. So.. it's not entirely true that LG is dropping support for it. And nothing to really be upset about. It may never get Pie and will never be root-able but at least it's up to date.

Yeah this is my last phone with removable battery. Now i'm moving with pixel 2
Still.on nougat with dec 1 2017 security patch , on 988
I will never buy LG again. I've owned 2 OnePlus phones. The OnePlus One and my current OnePlus 5. Tons of support! I have an rs988 but I don't use it. I use my VS985 G3 more than my G5 because I have more support through custom roms.
Update version Korea f700k
Good news ?

So glad I moved on with LG., that's a bad move from them. My G5 is now with my little brother for his casual needs. I replaced its battery so that the original longevity is preserved. That's one thing I loved about that phone, sadly it's the last of its kind.
