And here we are again: out of the blue, with no new apps installed, my phone started discharging by 1% or more per hour at night, while before I was getting a 3% in 8 hours.
Any tool to figure out what the culprit is?
I am rooted.
Thanks
install betterbaterystats or anything that can read wakelocks and alarms and check what's going on
Do you use Facebook app? If so delete it and you'll be back to 3% Over night. Haha. No but BBS is a great app like person says above my post. This can also be caused by your carrier maybe doing work on nearby towers giving you a not so good signal.. More than likely it's a rogue app or apps and if not then maybe it is signal... There's a VERY helpful thread on XDA for BBS. You can search and pull up just about anything there. A quick Google search will reveal it's location. Good luck. I'm sure you'll get it back down to 3%. That's exactly what I cleared when I woke this morning...

Are you running the stock ROM?
BBS or GSam. FB Messenger was fixed when they found the issue server side. What is your battery capacity (Accubattery)?
Stock rom, system less root but no changes and no custom kernel: need root only to use pixel launcher and flashfire.
No FB is not at all the problem. And nothing has really changed from a few days ago, just a few updates from plastered.
Capacity is being measured

It may take a few long charges ( from below 20%) to get an accurate capacity reading, but if it comes back with above 90%, you have likely ruled out the battery itself. BBS is from an XDA Dev and they offer help on deciphering the logfiles if nothing is obvious in the app's dedicated thread. Let it run overnight and don't use the phone for at least 6-8 hours, and then generate a log file in the morning when you first pick the phone up.
Maybe it's due to an update for Google Play Services? Just a guess...

I flashed my vibrant to bionix 1.3.1 a while back, pretty much a week after is was released. Its been great up to about 2-3 days ago. I had a full charge at work at today around 2 pm, I got home and checked the battery life at around 6 pm it was at 72%. I sent out about 4 texts lastnight. Got up this morning is was at 44%. I used to get about 2-3 days out of light use. It will probably be dead by 2 pm again today.
What gives?
Network data off -
Black background -
Brightness is the lowest -
Idk maybe randomly reading it wrong? P.s. Why dont people charge their phones at night?!?!? Thats what I do
Oh i do as well usually. But like i said, the battery is starting to drop so fast that by lunch that day it was already at like 49%. By 2 pm is was full and so on. I just dont understand why its dropping so fast thats all.
Might have something to do with the battery
Check what's running in the background. The other night I was just using the phone normally and put it to sleep, checked it a few times and it was dropping 1% every 15 minutes or so. Noticed it kept checking into something. VVM and Market Checkin was running, killed it and it seemed to help. Also discovered (might not be true) that the New MAPS and GMAIL apps constantly check in and drain the battery after removing the updates phone seems to last longer/as it did before..:/
oo maybe that might be it. I Just updated a boat load of my apps a few days ago. P.s. how do you remove just the update?

those are just a few tips , if You didn't install anything that would change Your battery behavior TRY TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE IN WALL OUTLET INSTEAD OF COMUPUER USB ,also did You flash any updates to Bionix that got released because of so some of them contain update to modem so if previous bionix was on JL4 modem which is fast and battery savy new update might off reflashed your modem to newer one as fast as old but with worst battery . good luck i can give u million tips how to save juice , oh btw :

also clean up Your battery stats in clockwork and recharge it with wall outlet Your battery might be recalibrated and when it shows 2% left u might have 10 really instead that's why clean battery stats and recharge.
or sadlly Your battery cant hold the juice anymore because it was recharged to zero few times too many , sorry
This is crazy. I just came to xda to post my bionix 1.3.1 battery problem. I been running it for a week and no issues. But this morning I took the phone off the charger and within 10 minutes of using it I was down to 85%. Usually after my morning usage I'd be around 93-95%. But that's not the issue I wanted to post.
I was trying to wait for Black Ice since Frost had the best battery life of any rom I've tried...just not feeling the Frost theme. So I started to download the Frost zip & got the phone on the charger.
Even after I put it back on the charger my battery life kept going down. Plugged it in at 85% and a few minutes later I noticed it was at 83%

I have the same problem. I have system panel running all the time. When I sleep, the phone sleeps too and uses about 1% of battery per hour. But when im actually using the phone, even if the use is minimal like sending a few texts etc. The battery consumption is far greater than the use. Top apps in system panel monitoring is usually system process and system itself. How do I correct this issue?

I agree with you also. These guys must have some super batteries to get that kind of life out of it. lol.
Hello!
I rooted my phone as of yesterday, I charged it all night and when I took it off today the battery went from completely full to dead withint 3 hours of no use. I did not use the phone at all.
Any ideas?
If you just rooted your phone, you should not have battery drain... Try to temporarily disable root (with Voodo OTA RootKeeper for exemple)
Use better battery stats to nail down which app is causing the drain
Did you try wiping your battery stats in CWM - advanced?
There's also an app, Battery Calibration, on the Play Store that may help with that.
Not uncommon to get weird battery readings after changing rom's or rooting.

This is soooo strange. Not a normal behavior!! Before you root your phone, how the battery lifes goes??? Are you in a stock or modified ROM? Wich kernel are you using?
I faced this issue a couple weeks ago. Android S.O was the culprit and it was driving me crazy. I was using a custom ROM (RemICS-UX). I solved the problem returning to stock and erasing everything, then i reflashed the ROM and the kernel, in my case Devil3 0.79. If you want to give it a try!!
After that my batterys life is pretty fine, during at least 2 days!
Feel free to ask anything you want! Cheers mate
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Go through a couple more full charge cycles, if android os usage isn't very high then, it should be fine.
Edit: on second thought, draining the battery without use in 3 hours is extreme, and would suggest that the CPU is running at max speed all the time. If it doesn't solve itself or improve a lot after a few more charge cycles, reflash everything.
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.
Did you just root your phone or did you flash another ROM? Some ROMs have horrible battery life.
The stock battery usage monitor (Settings>Battery) should be enough to tell you what ate your battery. If it's a particular app you're running, try disabling that and see if it improves. If the usage is mostly "Android System", "Mobile standby", or something like that, then you have a tougher problem. The free app CPU spy will let you know if something is keeping your CPU usage high. Better battery stats is pretty cheap and will give you much more specific information.
+1s for BetterBatteryStats and waiting a few charge cycles before judging/debugging your battery drain, especially if you changed your kernel to root or flashed a rom.
I find that after flashing a new rom or kernel my phone, the battery level shown in recovery mode is higher than in the rom's settings, for a couple days. (You can see batt level in semaphore's recovery). I once dud a lazy search about this and found nothing, but I figure that's what is meant about waiting a few cycles gir your battery to calibrate.

There's no such thing as "calibrating your battery". It's a myth. Wiping your battery stats file doesn't do anything other than reset the tracking of what's using power. It doesn't magically fix your battery meter. Flashing a new ROM doesn't leave left over data, again a myth.
Battery life is never consistent after flashing because your ROM needs to "settle" for a day or two first and during that time your ram and cpu usage are all over the place.
The rest is a placebo effect.

Currently I'm experiencing a huge battery drain too. I used both tools which where mentioned here in this thread and when the drain occours, CPU spy reports that my SGS didnt go in deep sleep at all with turned off display, it was at least at 100mhz all the time! I attached 2 logs from better battery stats and it seems like the NotificationService is causing it?
I'm using JW6 PDA JW4 Modem and JVC CSC in combination with the MNGB 0.5.8 Kernel.
Definitely, now you got to find out what is causing it!

I've just flashed PA latest build (dirty) and my battery stats are pretty messed up, apparently Bluetooth was the biggest drain on my phone, 57%, and it was on for nearly 50 days.
I don't use Bluetooth and obviously a battery lasting 50 days is nonsense.
I've had a search and found people experiencing high drain from some services, or reporting 100% charge as soon as plugged in, but can't find anything resembling my problem.
Is there a way of resetting these stats without having to do a full wipe. I tried charging to 100% but they remain.

All of a sudden the Android OS usage of the battery shot up to 76%. I usually get around 2% per hour but now I'm getting a 2% drain in 15 mins. The battery page shows Android OS as the culprit, Wakelock Detector isn't showing anything up and BetterBatteryStats just says Android OS is the big user. Easy One Hand has also appeared although I don't have this switched on.
I have done a restart of the phone earlier this morning to see if there was a rogue app kicking around and I've just finished charging it up to 100%.

Well, with so many people in the same boat, i have been having the same exact thing, what i found that even with the Location services disabled, the Android System still shows as location "running" in App Ops.
Check for this, Download app ops starter from market and under location check the android system, if you see location running then just disable it. it have no effect on any apps. You will get your battery back
Same here
I have the same problem, I am 100% stock.
What I noticed is if I reboot my phone the battery will behave correctly for a couple of days then suddenly Android OS will take over and drain it
With Android OS drain I get
3% drain per hour with no use (Wifi on every 20 min to sync)
10% drain overnight (7/8 hours with wifi on every 1 hr)
sometimes I have like 30 mins screen on time and the Android OS CPU total and Keep Awake over 3 hours (lol)
Normally, I get barely 1% drain per hr during the day if not using it and almost no drain at night
I already disabled NewsStand and I am about to try to disable Google+ even though I like the Auto-Backup feature.

Ah you see this is where saying "Oh there's loads of stuff on this issue" is a bit premature. Yes I've read all that stuff and yes I got my battery life to a happy place.
Now since yesterday evening, I've suffered battery drain and was posting to see if anyone else had noticed a similar increase. It's a sudden change which would suggest that either Google have changed something or an app has changed in some way (although I'd expect an app to show up as itself rather than Android OS). A couple of months ago there was an update to Google Play Services that caused similar issues and was quickly fixed by Google. My not pointless post was to see if anything similar had happened in the last 24 hours.
OK then, I'm over and out. I had this Android OS drain just once. Didn't bother to look into it too much. I've let the battery drain till 15%, rebooted the phone, charged it till 100 and that was it. Hope you sort it out.

I think I've sorted it. It's early days yet but it appears to have been an update to the gReader widget. I've removed it and everything is settling down nicely. I'm going to let it drain though and then recharge it so I won't know for another day or so.
Greenify would be the best choice since you are on stock ROM. Disable some bloatware and you will observe improved battery life. Greenify requires root and Xposed Framework though.
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has experienced an extremely fast battery drain? I have had excellent battery life and just today I was at 100% and within 3 hours I was at 15%. I was barely using it and while it was sitting on my desk I could watch the battery life dropping.
I have had the V20 since launch and have not had any issues until today.
Just curious if anyone else has ran into this and if anyone knows how to fix the problem?
Thanks

I was thinking about the update being the culprit but, that was last week. I haven't had a problem until today
I just tried turning off my phone completely and let it charge. And it's charging very quickly.
I suspect Facebook and FB messenger is the culprit draining the battery. Could you guys try disabling it and see if there's any improvement?

I tried disabling them earlier and still no luck for me. I looked at the battery usage stats and FB is very minimal on mine. Its in the top spot but still very minimal. It seems like an internal problem on my end
Earlier, Facebook resulted in 31% of battery usage. And FB messenger 23%. After disabling FB and uninstalling FB messenger, "Android system" is responsible for 23% of battery usage.
I lost 40% of my battery overnight last night. Facebook and Facebook messenger look to be responsible.
I read somewhere that there was some bug reporting update in Facebook that's causing this. Amplify was suggested to stop the wake locks, but that app uses xposed, which I don't think we can do just yet... Anybody have a suggestion for stopping that short of uninstalling Facebook?

This was my battery drain this morning. Just nose dived for about 2.5 hours. I recharged it and seems to be stable now.
After reinstalling Facebook and messenger I've used 4% battery over the last hour or so with light usage, and both those apps are way down the list on consumption. Reinstalling looks to fix that up.

interesting this popped up as I updated Messenger last night and CPU usage was through the roof despite killing it... I downgraded to the previous version of Messenger and it was more manageable until this morning. I've always had FB installed, but not signed in so I signed in and CPU shot through the roof again with Messenger going haywire too. Despite restarting the phone these two kept misbehaving until I froze them both. I'm going to try re-installing those two after I update my device to 10i
