If you all are having a hard time looking for root on 7.1.2 nexus 5x I have the solution.
I confirm this works on my nexus 5x running 7.1.2 NPG05D currently
-Download SuperSU SR3 here: https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip
-Then flash in twrp
-Profit!
Kudos to Chainfire and everything he has done.
SR3 fourm: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Thanks,
Thanks man. Just flashed this and so far everything is working perfectly
Now NPG05D is missing from https://developers.google.com/android/images#bullhead .
I can flash in 7.1.2 N2G48C, but failed in installing SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742 and SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.
Do you have to wipe? When to wipe?

Hello everyone. I recently installed Pure Nexus Project and the Elemental X Kernel. Left everything Stock while Installing. Flashed SuperSU.zip as last. Never accepted the offer from TWRP to install SuperSU. So, when I install SuperSU off the Playstore, it won't appear in my App-Drawer. If I install the .zip, it won't appear too. And when I would try Systemless Root, I can't find a Rooted Boot.img for PN. What shall I do. Thank you.$
Edit: I'm on the newest Pure Nexus Version, and the newest Kernel Version. TWRP is also up to date.

FIXED: Tried some other SuperSU Versions. 2.76 Worked for me.
Just bought a XT1575. I followed this link to get it unlocked, installed latest stock rom (6.0 MPH24.49-18-4 from here), and I installed latest TWRP recovery.
Then I tried to install root and Xposed framework. I tried several methods from this link :
Install superSU 2.62-3, my device goes bootloop. I have to recover from my TWRP backup.
Install SuperSU 2.78 with "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu" before install. bootloop again.
Please help me on this, thank you so much!
Try this for forced systemless root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/wifi-wont-root-t3463656/post68764815
Then flash Systemless Xposed by topjohnwu, attachment named "xposed-v86.2-sdk23-topjohnwu.zip": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67074428&postcount=2
Or romracer's version named "xposed-v86.1-sdk23-arm64-systemless-by-romracer-20160928.zip" in sdk23 > arm64: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/super-alpha-posted-permission-xposed-t3072979
The systemless method you noted is correct. Did you boot fully on the 6.0 ROM first, before trying to flash SuperSU? If you did, verify in the TWRP terminal 'cat /data/.supersu' contains only the SYSTEMLESS=true string, and when you flash SuperSU the log says something about systemless installation.
@acejavelin I did checked there's only SYSTEMLESS=true before install. Very weird.
@pshadoww I know it works... I literally did it this morning to test the lastest 2.78-SR1. It will bootloop twice, then boot after a very long wait that seems scarily long.
@Spasticdroid Greate resources. I tried the systemless root installer you mentioned and it works.
That might be it, I guess I waited for too long and think it's not working. Anyways I used the forced systemless root installer and it works now. Thank you!
Updated to 7.1.1 Beta. Flashed twrp. I then flashed magisk and then phh. I get stuck in a boot lop. I tried twice but each time I keep getting stuck in a bootloop. Does anyone have a work around? I've looked around and seems like everyone is getting it to work but me and a few others? Any help?
Not sure why you want magisk if xposed isn't supported on 7.0+ ? Just use superSU instead.
Edit: There is a (no longer a) benefit in using Magisk/phh, since magisk hide and using xpropset magisk module is detected by SafetyNet already, but see post below for the latest approach (if any):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/help-pass-safetynet-rooted-7-0-aosp-t3486834
suhide is not compatible w/ 7.1.1, so SuperSU is not an option for the 6P on the 7.1.1 Developer Preview
Flash magisk and phh su, works fine, but supersu get bootloop, something like this
7.1.1 with supersu (stable or sr1) boots fine, the problem atm is suhide, flashing suhide causes bootloops
Way possible, but without suhide is not very convenient, banks apps not working properly
So the latest superuser by chain fire works? Cause flashing magisk v8 then phh su just sends me to a bootloop.
I'm using magisk and the latest phh su on 7.1.1 and no issues what so ever even have it passing safetynet
All I did was flash the factory image, then two, then flashed phh su, magisk and then rebooted and installed xsetprop through magisk.
how are you getting this working? I haven't tested, but doesn't the 7.1.1 need a custom kernel to bypass safetynet? Kernel source isn;t out yet?
Edit: Flash latest beta SuperSU from Chainfire thread, that'll work.
Currently I'm on Stock Nougat, installed element kernel but I don't how to root it. I have flashed SuperSU 2.79 but I got bootloop any help would be appreciated.
Twrp installed.
Stock Nougat NPJ25.93-14
ElementX Kernel installed (1.01)
Thanks.
Flash the superuser zip file from the thread below and then install phh superuser app from playstore.

Not working, flashed beta SuperSU from chainfire thread, now working perfectly.
Did you flash supersu in systemless mode? For me it won't even try to boot. I have to restore boot from a twrp backup to boot again.
I didn't found here something for rooting Nexus 5x with Oreo 8.1 Security Patch February 2018 just with SuperSU and Magisk isn't always an option(for me).
Required: unlocked bootloader, TWRP 3.2.1-0 installed
Go to Playstore and install Chainfires SuperSU v2.82. Download the attached file and put it to your internal storage. Reboot to TWRP and install SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip. Reboot to system. After two reboots you will be back in system and SuperSU is working. If you don't install the app first through Playstore, you won't find any SuperSU in your app list. I don't know why, but this way worked for me and i tried it several times, because i didn' want to have Magisk on this phone. Viper4android is also working without any problems. Hope this helps anybody with the same problem.

Thank you for your post.
I've tried several times to root the Nexus 5x only flashing the SuperSU by fastboot but I never rooted the phone.
I followed your suggestions and now it works.
Also the version of SuperSu to flash was different. I kept flashing an S3 while the one published by you was an S5.
Thank you.

Your very welcome. Nice to see that I could help you
It works like a charm, thanks so much!!
I failed in the past because I installed SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip first, then install SuperSU app. SuperSU app then needs to update binary, then the phone stuck.
Funciono en mi Moto G4 con AOSP Extended 5.6/Oreo 8.1, no crei que me fuera a funcionar y probe con el root checker

I run on my Moto G4 with AOSP Extended 5.6 / Oreo 8.1, I did not think it would work and probe with the root checker
Excellent! Thank you!
