Nougat lock screen swiping trouble - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

After my phone was updated to 7.0 (from fully stock), I have had trouble swiping to unlock my device, swiping to launch the camera, and even just swiping notifications away on the lock screen. The objects animate and drag with my finger, but it's like they're super elastic because they just snap back into place. Sometimes I have to swipe 4 or 5 times to unlock or complete an action.
I don't think this behavior occurs once it's unlocked, and I did do a factory reset from recovery after the 7.0 update.
Has anyone else noticed this or solved it? Thanks.

The factory update to 7.1.1 I installed this morning seems to have solved this issue. Hope it lasts.

Possible orientation issues after 2.2?

Sometimes, and I notice it mostly after unlocking it, the screen orientation is off (I'll be holding it "in portrait", but the screen is in landscape mode). Instead of switching immediately to portrait, or even after a couple seconds, I have to hold it in landscape then back to portrait for it to switch.
I only started noticing it after installing 2.2 last week, and it doesn't happen all the time. Has anyone else seen this behavior? I haven't calibrated the compass since 2.2, and after 2 minutes of rotating the phone around on 2.1, on at least two different occasions, I said screw it and stopped (before the calibration finished). Could that by why?
Also, maybe it's the launcher (ADW), but sometimes click-holding a widget/app shortcut on one of the screens is "wonky". Sometime I can click-hold it and the phone will vibrate and I can drag it to the trash or move it around no problem. But then sometimes it just won't activate. I just tried to delete a widget around 20 times. I click-held for anywhere from 1-3 seconds, and no vibrate. However, after I let go, it activated the program. WTF? Eventually it worked, but it really shouldn't take that many attempts.
Same issue. I have LP+. I disabled auto-rotation in settings\display as a temporary fix.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I have the same issue after unlock too. I've noticed that I have to hold it in portrait for a few seconds and tap the top to get it rotated. Quite annoying since it happens all day long. You're right, this didn't happen before froyo.
Anyone have skills with re-mapping buttons? I would love a dedicated button to rotate screen. I wouldn't mind the camera button remapped for that. Full Press=Rotates screen/Half Press=Locks screen in that rotation.
thats odd im on rooted 2.2 and dont have that problem with adw installed on it. it could be the accelerometer. i notice it other times not after unlock. usually i do have to wait a second and tapping it does help which leads me to belive its the accelerometer. however if this is a really big issue for alot of people then a button to auto rotate the screen would be very helpful.
Did anyone try calibrating their compass after moving to 2.2 and see if that fixes the screen orientation issues?
Sapo, I have. After doing that it wasn't happening for a little while (maybe a day or so), but it's back now for the last week, and it's happening more often. And I tried what someone else suggested, tapping on the top of my phone with a finger, and that flips it around to normal every time.
happens a lot with mine too, unrooted, still running moto blur...several apps open that way, email, messaging....not always though, so it's a bit puzzling.
I would try using the Stock Blur Home to see if its just ADW

[HELP] Unresponsive band of screen on D800 stock Lollipop.

Hi guys, I have experienced a number of screen relates issues on my D800 since the Lollipop upgrade. I am pure stock, took the upgrade OTA from ATT.
1. Knock on stopped working. Knock off works OK. I tried all of the suggestions online, update touch firmware, etc. but still no help. This is no big deal since I can use the back button to wake up the phone.
2. I noticed scrolling was unresponsive in Chrome but ignored it because I thought it might be me.
3. I was out and on the phone and I noticed I could not hear her well all of a sudden and then the call got disconnected. I tried to put my PIN in to unlock the phone but that area of the screen was totally unresponsive to touch. I could enter the numbers in the second row of the grid but there is a 1 in my pin and that would not register. I restarted a bunch of times which I had to do only with buttons because I could not click 'OK' on the screen to confirm the restart. I got a screen on the phone saying my screen was unresponsive and this is how to answer calls only with the buttons etc.
I got home and used by OTG mouse connection to enter my pin and navigate the phone. I did a factory reset which I had never done before. The responsiveness seems better now. There seems to be one section of the screen that is unresponsive, right near the middle. I can't click on any of the icons in the second row from the bottom. I can get to the notification shade which I don't think I could do before.
I am attaching an image of a memo where I just ran my finger up and down the screen without lifting it. You can see the dead area.
Has anyone had this problem or knows of any solution? Thanks very much.

I just RMA'd it. It probably is the same problem you had but I am pretty sure I am still under warranty so I just sent it in.

5.1 Touchscreen unresponsive with flip cover

EDIT: ok, touchscreen unresponsiveness after long standby happens due to flip cover. so this could be a major bug in the 5.1 update that needs to be fixed. i hope we will get a few ota updates with fixes for our problems.
yeah, as the title said, i can't use my tablet after it was in deepsleep/standby for too long in android 5.1 lollipop.
Scenario: after long standby/deepsleep time i pressed the power button to turn the screen on. the lockscreen (swipe only gesture) appears. i want to unlock the device by swiping up but it doesn't work as if i didn't even touch the screen.
only workaround for me at this moment is to hold the power button for a few seconds so it shuts down (NOT Force reboot, it still says "shutting down" or something like that). after that i turn it back on, let it boot until it finishes. now the touchscreen works again.
short: long standby/deepsleep equals touchscreen completely unresponsive
rebooting equals a workaround solution that is really anoying for me everytime
did anyone experience this problem, too?
does someone know how to fix this?
EDIT: BTW everything works just fine and runs really smooth except for the unresponsive screen while too long in standby.
it could be that my flip cover causes this to happen.
I CANNOT confirm anything yet.
i will try it a few times more with flip cover on top of the display and without the flip cover on display. (could be bad calibrated magnetic sensor or just bad programming overall)
maybe i will know more after that. i will report back in this thread if anything happens.
seems to be solved due to clean restore of 5.1 (READ FIRST POST RED COLORED EDIT LINE)
back again, thought it went away. in the last hours the unresponsiveness bug happend again (2 times; probably due to flip cover)). my thought is that nvidia went on to the flip cover bug from kitkat, tried to fix it and made it worse instead of getting rid of it.
OMG, really? This bug not only still exists but has become even worse? Ridiculous... glad I don't even use my cover any more... I'm not even sure where I put it ^_^ It's stuff like this and the issues with the Shield Tab that kept me from buying the Shield TV, even though I really really want one.
not flip cover issue... its happening ever since i updated to lollipop. only stylus works and finger touch is unresponsive.. sometimes the stylus also doesnt works
Same problem here Blaze! Sometimes finger touch is unresponsive, only works with the stylus! This is terrible [emoji17]

E-ink Lock Screen

Hello everyone,
So, I'm having a bit of a strange problem with my Yotaphone 2...
I did a factory reset on it a while back, and everything went fine, except now, when the screen is locked, I can no longer unlock the e-ink screen by dragging up the lock icon on the bottom of the e-ink screen. I have to use the hardware power button, which is a little bit inconvenient at times. I've spent quite a while trying to locate what setting got effected to make it not function, but with no luck. Anybody have any idea where I can turn this function back on?
It happened to me too, I think it was something related with the Lollypop update, but could be some setting that has changed and that I cannot find. However, I found that if I double tap before tracing the finger motion, it usually works. That's why I didn't look further into the issue.

No luck for me. I'm still on Kitkat anyway...
Looks like I might be stuck...

Actually, scratch that... after your double tap suggestion, I started randomly tapping around managed just once to get it to unlock from a screen touch, but have not been able to replicate the movement so it happens again. What movement exactly do you use to get it to unlock?
Update:
Seems to be some kind of sensitivity issue. I can get it to unlock about once out of every 50 swipes. Less than ideal.
I leave the phone with the E-ink screen facing up (to prevent the gyroscope from switching sensitivity to the amoled display instead), then press twice the lock icon, and on the second time my finger touches the E-ink, I drag it up to the center of the phone. It took a bit of practice but now I can get it to work consistently. The double tap is because if the phone has been inactive for a while, it enters sleep mode, and it looks like that turns off the finger gesture recognition. Other possible explanations are that maybe you don't press the screen firmly enough, or maybe you placed some plastic sheet over the back display and that reduces sensitivity.
I noticed that the unlock gestures on the EPD work only when the phone recognizes that you've it in the hand or you're using it. So I take it and I unlock it effectively. Trying to unlock when it lays down and you haven't moved it for a while brings to your experience.
Thanks to both of you for the advice... unfortunately, neither seems to be doing the trick. Just a caution for any other people who are thinking of doing a factory reset - it seems to seriously impact sensitivity for the e-ink unlock, so be aware.
I never succeed to do slide up unlock even within 1st tutorial. Double tap unlock was the only workaround for me. Also activated glove sensitivity mode.

Touch Screen Unresponsive

I don't expect there's much that can be done if the hardware is to blame. This reminds me of my Galaxy S3 -- so it's a problem that everyone else fixed ages ago. When I touch the touchscreen, very very often, it doesn't register that touch at all. Sometimes you get a delayed response. This leads to all kinds of fun where you tap the screen again at the same moment that PH-1 responds to your first touch, so it applies your second tap to whatever is going to come up on the screen a half second later.
Does anyone know if this can be fixed by firmware updates or is this a hardware issue?
same here! my huawei honor 8 is much faster
Touch Screen unresponsive is a hardware issue. I had the same problem with my HTC U11 until it was replaced. Essential phone does not have this issue assuming screen is working properly.
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Touchscreen responsiveness, having to tap more than once for the screen to register a touch and awful light bleed caused me to send it back. But it was from the first batch that were manufactured. No issues on my U11, but I bought it in early August.
Confirming u installed the most recent OTA (NMI64C)? Because that fixed my touch issues.

Yep that's what I currently have. I think the phone found that update on its own a few days ago. Touch issues seem to be hit or miss and maybe less frequent since that update. We'll see how it goes from here.
touch unresposive is due too thermal trottling or like me the launcher stock.
Solved with Evie launcher
Using a different launcher and such didn't help me out, unfortunately. Besides the tap issues, scrolling through a web page in any browser or with apps was extremely slow and laggy. My PH-1 was already being returned, so I couldn't test the latest software update they pushed out. But my device also had some horrible light bleed all along the left and right edges.
No light bleed here. But [email protected], the responsiveness of this touch screen is worse than any other phone I've had. And the new software update hasn't helped at all!...
Same issue!
I too am having touch screen issues. Today, I was on the phone and went to go back to the screen and the screen stays black. I tried everything including pressing the power button and I got no response from the phone whatsoever. The only thing that finally worked was to press the power button and the volume down button and hold them at the same time to shut my phone off after the call already ended. In addition to that issue , I also use Swipe to type and when I do so it often skips over letters and types words that I am not even trying to type . It should be mentioned that I'm a very experienced swipe user and I have not had this problem with my S7 Edge or my Wellington . Also, I should mention that I have the most recent OTA. Also, has anyone else noticed that the camera shutter has a serious delay in it even with the Google camera mod?
I've noticed my touch screen freaking out sometimes. It has more to do with the screen having too many prints on it. Guess it's a bit too sensitive. I wipe the phone screen off and it's fine. Doesn't happen very often. I have one of the latest batches, pure white.
Already looked into this?
Sensitivity:
1. Tap on the "Settings" icon on the home screen.
2. Tap "Language and Input".
3. Scroll to the very bottom of these settings and tap "Pointer Speed".
4. Increase the slider to make the touch screen more sensitive and easier to tap. Decrease the slider to make your touch screen less sensitive and more difficult to tap.
5. Tap "OK" and then experiment with the results.
Essential Support still working on that and they send me this instructions for now.
I think it makes the user experience better.

Same.
Hope it will have a fix soon.
Early on I got the black screen that required a power hold reboot, since moving to Oreo I've not seen that

edit : solved with oreo beta

When I touch some letters on my keyboard, it's unresponsive. Same with some apps. I don't know why this phone is so frustrating to use even if it's a very good smartphone.
EDIT : I'm on Nougat's lastest version, not on Oreo beta.

Had it on both versions to be honest, but hoping it's getting resolved as time goes on!
Just got mine..same thing but...
My screen was doing fine until i installed "All in one gestures". I was messing around with side gestures and this caused the screen to be non-responsive. I un-installed the app, reinstalled it and set it up differently and now it is fine.
I hope this helps.

This helped me. I have mine set at approximately 3/4 and I'm happy one day in. Seems to work great now. I would still like smoother scrolling though. Thanks a million.
I was also having trouble with Android Pay and then found a post about the NFC being located near the bottom of the phone as opposed to the top as on my Nexus 6p.
With these problems fixed I'm completely pleased with this phone.
ugh! Flashed back to stock on 7.1.1/NMJ32F/436 as that is how my phone came, and now I have no touchscreen after re-boot?!?!?! any advice? Please?
Thanks,
DJ
