I'm currently using Llama to automate a lot of settings on my Nexus 4. As I understand, its recommended to keep Llama's notification icon on, as this tells Android to keep it running even if memory is low. However, I generally like to keep my status bar as uncluttered as possible, so would ideally like to keep Llama's notification icon off.
Given that our N4 has 2gb of RAM, and I only generally use about 700mb, I'm wondering if Android will even get close to killing Llama indiscriminately.
Has anyone actually turned off the status bar icon, and had Llama automatically closed by the Android system? Is it really necessary to keep the status bar icon on?

I have just started using Llama myself and decided to "Turn Off the Notification Icon" for the same reasons you stated. I'll post back in the coming days.
If you have done so already, please let me know if "Turning Off the Notification Icon" affects the App in anyway

I've been using Llama for about two months now with the notification icon setting turned off, with no problems whatsoever. The N4 apparently has enough RAM that no processes need to be killed by the system at all, even after some intensive gaming.
Good to hear. I'm using Llama on the Galaxy S3 so there shouldn't be an issue either. I'll keep the thread updated if there's any issues.
Thanks for letting me know.

I was wondering if someone knows how to disable:
- Heads Up notifications (Super annoying when you're doing something and it pops up in the front of the screen)
- the Volume buttons changing the font size in Messaging (There is used to be a way to disable to in settings, but I cannot find it anymore)
Thank you in advanced!
I have exactly the same question, regarding text font size of SMS. In the past there as a setting, but on S7 edge it's gone. Pretty annoying
I know that this thread is old, but is there any way to turn off heads up notification? There is no option for that?

It's still there in three dots, settings. I'm quite pleased with the default though

I'm using shortcutter which allow us to toogle heads up in quick setting. Also we could add other toggles that are normally unavailable. It's pretty fun to play with even if you are unrooted. You should try it, seriously. Or maybe switch notification to show silently
Hi all, hoping you can help.
On my Galaxy S8 I've noticed a cool notification feature where when my screen is off and I receive a notification from a stock app (text message, calendar) the heads up notification bubble appears at the top of the screen as usual but the rest of the screen remains off. This is really good because it means I don't have to have AOD enabled which drains battery but I can get a quick glance at what the notification is. My question is what is this feature called and why does it only seem to work for stock apps? I'd love my Whatsapp, Twitter and Gmail notifications to show up this way as well but despite digging through all the notification settings I can't figure it out.
I have a feeling there is some feature which just isn't supported by non-stock apps but would be useful to know what that is...
TIA!
Settings > edge screen > edge lighting > manage notifications
From there you can enable the apps you want.

Well, I've just been doing some testing and with Whatsapp at least, I've managed to get this to work by enabling the 'Popup notification setting' in the Notifications settings menu and setting it to 'Only when screen is off'. There is a trade off though which is that you get an actual Whatsapp popup notification (not heads up) when you turn the screen on and I personally find that annoying but if it means I get the heads up notifications when my screen is off, then I might live with it.
Twitter and Gmail I'm still not sure about...

But that's edge lighting - that already works and is just a light based notification. I'm talking about a heads up notification bubble appearing when the screen is off so you can see who it's from and a preview of the message.
It's the same thing. Turn off edge lighting and you won't get those bubbles. It does require some tinkering though for most apps. Textra for example I had to change how it displayed notifications in order to get the bubble you are speaking of to work.

Also on the list under manage apps, there is a line which is bolder than the others. I think apps above that line are "optimized" to work with this notification feature.

Have you learned what the bubble feature with screen of is Called?!
Skickat från min SM-G950F via Tapatalk
I currently have an iPhone 7 and heavily use the notification functionality.
Let's say I'm in meeting and the phone is on the table, locked. If someone sends a me a WhatsApp message, for example, then the phone will beep and light up for a few seconds and I'll see a new notification on the lock screen showing that I have a WhatsApp message from the sender. The same applies for other applications like email.
I have a Samsung S8 Galaxy and am trying to replicate the same behaviour. The notifying app definitely makes a noise, but the screen doesn't light up to show the details. I have to press the button on the right hand side to view the lock screen notification.
Is this a setting somewhere or a deficiency in Android/S8?
You can enable the edge lightning feature, although this only shows the app icon and a lightning and not the notifications text itself.

I'm sure it's possible!:fingers-crossed:
You can tap on the app icon when the edge lightens and quick reply from lockscreen is enabled.
Here is a tutorial on how to enable quick reply for notifications on lockscreen via adb:

Hi everyone!
So, I recently got a Mi 9T.
I really like the device itself, but not having used MIUI in a few years, there's something that is really making me angry, to the point where I'm considering sending the device back and getting a refund: the way notifications are handled on the lock screen.
Basically, the problem is this: when you recieve a new notification, it only shows on the lockscreen ONE TIME. After that, if you turn the screen off and back on again, even if you didn't dismiss the notificaiton it disappears from the lockscreen. You have to unlock the phone and open the notification shade to read the pending notifications.
This is not how stock Android behaves, and is very annoying because I keep forgetting I have unanswered emails/messages/etc, since I don't see them "at a glance" when I turn on the screen without unlocking the device.
Is there any way to fix this?
If there isn't, does anyone know of any alternative solution? Maybe a third party app? At least a way to see that there are active notifications, maybe via an icon in the statusbar or something?
Ok, after some searching I've found that this Xposed module should have this feature: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-customiuizer-customize-miui-rom-t3910732
Now all we need is a way to root the device so we can install Xposed/EdXposed. Has anyone tested magisk/root yet?
On my previous mobiles, I've been using a combo nova/missedit
Nova folder, transparent icon with links to phone, messages, WhatsApp,WeChat, slack... Inside, with badges active. Any notification is shown only when present. Touch, open folder, touch open app. Fast and nice.
Missed it can be configured to show anything you want
But both are not working properly with t9. Bought Wednesday, not much testing still, but some annoyances found, like that.
Lock screen is just detected, I didn't noticed it until now. But may be dangerous.
And also, notification led (I love those things) does nothing but charge... And noled app doesn't works

LED is working for me with notifications (tested with WhatsApp).
Thanks for your suggestions, but from what I read it seems that those apps are for missed notification badges? I'm talking about notifications on lockscreen, that disappear after they've been shown once.
But the mod I've linked above seems to have the solution, just need to find a root method (there's a TWRP available, but not official, don't know if Magisk works on it or not, will test this weekend if I can).

Do you have any idea why my phone led wont lit up when it receives a message ,it only lights up at charge
thanks btw
ok, i understand your problem.
but for me is also logic to not keep same notification on lock screen always, even after you unlock and lock phone back.
there are up in notification bar, icons, or badges on icons in home screen, and they saty until you dismiss them from notification bar.

Different people use their phone differently.
Personally, I use notifications as reminders. For example: if I get an email that I can't reply to immediately I do not dismiss the notification, so when I turn on the display, maybe even hours later, I immediately see the notification and I am reminded to reply.
Note also that this is how notifications work in stock android, so MIUI should at least give the option imho.
yes i understand you. but this is not stock android.
and if you dont dismiss notification in notification panel, when you swipe down, this notification icon will remain there until you dismiss her. so lets say, this morning i receive email, and it was on my lock screen. i unlock phone, and use what i wanted, but didnt watch email. in notification bar i have icon that there is email, and on app icon i have notification number. so this notifications number and icon in notification bar will stay all the time i dismiss notification when i pull down notification panel. i hope you understand. so if you watch on app icon of email you will know you have email as there is notification number, and up in bar you will have also notification that you have message. It is that what you said notification shade.
dont be upset, just say that it is not exactly true that after unlock you lose remainder that you receive email or message.

Well, you lose the reminder on the lock screen. I'm resurfacing this thread cause I just got a Mi9 and this is driving me nuts. They didn't fix this, even on MIUI 11.

That's very interesting... is this a XiaomiEU feature or has it been added in stock MIUI beta? (XiaomiEU builds are based on MIUI beta if I recall correctly).
Anyway, I can confirm that I've been using the Xposed module "custoMIUIzer" on my 9T and it works perfectly, it has a fix for this problem (and tons of other customizations)

Edit: guess it's Xiaomi.eu. Not an official rom right?

Customiuizer does it.
