Hey, everyone.
I bought my Mate 8 about two weeks ago. After my personal HTC-Desaster over the last year, i couldn't be happier.
The only thing, that keeps me wondering, is this current OS...
Sooooo, i'm saying it out loud to start the discussion ...
Does anyone know, if and when cm13 for the Mate 8 will be released?
Don't be so much disappointed, if answer will be "never" ))

Huawei Mate 7, much older device, also Kirin cpu = doomed = zero custom roms.

Mate 8 will also remain without CM13 :crying:

I'm right there with you...
Maybe, they will change their mind? I mean so many producers first said, they would never share the code, and suddenly they did.
I guess this is the dividing line...
I'm usually the one recommending phones to people and this phone is a great one, however, if there is no potential to get any AOSP/CM based ROMs on this device, then it is doomed from my recommendation on a large scale.
We should start a petition to change this, but I don't know who will join and if we will be loud enough to get them to listen.
What is the main blocker in this? Source code, vendor blobs, proprietary something-er-other? Is the Kirin impossible to get working because of proprietary drivers? Sounds like we just need more higher level devs to crack this? Maybe we can start a bounty to buy a phone for a dev that has a track record of cracking this kind if issue? Just brainstorming.

I totally agree with you... This information is a huge game-changer. Kinda ruined my morning too... :crying:
Something needs to be done one way ot the other... petition, bounty. I personally am open to ANY solution.

This is the link to the Ascend Mate 7 thread where they discuss this exact same issue. Maybe we can get some of them on board or get on board with them to push HW!

Thx a lot. I just posted our discussion at their board, with an invitation to join us, if they wish. Since it's same problem, we are all facing, i thought it might help all of us to work together.

I honest to god admit, i'm not an expert, but is this what you need for the developement of a custom rom?

I agree. On my last phone, HTC One M8, I have used CM for maybe a week TOTAL in 21 months. I have also used Google Play Edition ROM for maybe 2 months. I did not mind Sense ROMs as the performance was best with these, and they had good features as well.

Damn..
Have used CM13 on Samsung S4. Rom: great. Camera: worse.
Have used CM13 on LG G3. Rom: great. Camera: worse.
Have used CM13 on LG G4. Rom: great. Camera: worse.
Camera drivers are also often propietary. So if (will probably never happen) CM13 becomes a possibility for the Mate 8 there is always that issue as well.
I'd rather run a custom stock Rom with proper camera than an AOSP one without. And the Mate 8 is fast enough to be a great device, when using another launcher like Nova or Apex for example.
As always: YMMV, of course
This seems to have the best specifications of Samsung and HTC combined, additionally offering dual sim. For that price i can live just fine with a non-changable battery.
Seems like a very nice device. If it will be available in europe, and there's good support for custom roms here on xda, then it would be an alternative to Oneplus 3 for me.
I'm definitely getting this phone when it comes out. Can't wait to get rid of my G5. The thermal mitigation screen dim is killing me!

I´ll hope that there will be some custom roms. On other ZTE threads here on XDA there´s barely community support. The specs are really nice and I have to decide between OP3 or Axon7

But the specs! I hope we´ll have some nice devs thinking twice of this beast

Updates are important, espacially if there is barely Custom Rom support. I'm afraid of latter, on the other hand the Snapdragon SoC makes it easier. Maybe this will be my first try to port a Custom Rom.
I'm sure it will be possible to unlock the bootloader, even though that's just my feeling.

In my opinion force touch is absolutely useless. At the moment we have 3 options, single tap, double tap and long click, and if you want even more, triple tap, etc. Why would you need force touch? That's just a desperate attempt for innovation.
At the moment the ZTE Axon 7 is higher ranked for me that the OnePlus 3, especially because of the front facing speakers! If you had front facing speakers before, you want nothing else.

Well in this point I disagree with you. Force touch could and should be a kind of new interaction. It´s a question of implementation. You´re totally right for the existing "gestures" but I think in combination of this we´ve got new possibilities. There´s a lot of potential. But pls note - I don´t see the the advantage only on my side - I´m working with handicapped youngsters - and by some clients the force touch engine might be a positive progress
Front facing speakers... Meh.... I never used it BUT! The audio-chips are totally great!!! I´m a little bit audiophil. And I think the upgrade from my OP1 should be working "nice" for my headphones - specifically for my B&W P5 wireless

It's OK, that's totally subjective. I don't want to discourage anyone from getting force touch.
I don't know anything about how this could help handicapped people. But I still think there's no potential.

It's funny, you want force touch and I want front facing speakers. So with the Axon 7 it's a win-win!
You're right, back to topic. I'm pretty sure I'll buy it. The only tiny flaw for me is the protruding camera lens. Unfortunately that's standard nowadays. But apart from this it's almost perfect in my opinion.
For those who bought this device here it is the first "International ROM" from an Italian Blog.
https://forum.gizchina.it/index.php?/topic/718-zuk-edge-gizrom-10/
Obviously you have first to Unlock the device and flash TWRP.
The site is in Italian but Google Translate will do the work

Yeah you're absolutely right. But i really like the Zuk Edge and i don't mind about picture quality because i never take a picture during the day (in the last 2 weeks i think i took 1 picture).
Modding is not so active yes, but a couple of Italian blog release custom ROM based on Stock ROM with GPS and multi-language. That's enough for me, ordered one yesterday!!

What I love the most is its size.
Camera is a real Con on this one. But as you said, if you don't take too much pictures, it's a great choice indeed.

Snap 821, UFS 2.1, ultrasonic Finger ID, 6GB ROM LPDDR4 for only 300 euro? That's a deal man. I owned for 2 years my beloved Nexus 6 and i was tired about modding etc etc, tired about stock UI. Tried a lot of ROMs but in the last 2 months i used my N6 original at 100%.
I just want to change, bought one Xiaomi to my GF and really appreciated (but not the unlocking BT method), try Asus from a friend. Modded a Xperia Z with Stryflex and try the last Xperia Home. "played" with Huawei and try out also one LeEco Le Max 2. Find the "chinese" OS funny and really smart.
I wondered about 1+3T but 170 euro more....i don't have so much to effort for a mobile.
I think this Zuk is the best for my daily use. Next week it will come to me, i will flash the international ROM and then give some conclusions.
Can someone post thoughts on battery life???
Thanks

Hi guys im planing to buy Asus pro m1 on current flipkart sale, since 4/64GB version is just rs 8500 its steal, but after reading most reviews, this phone looks like have lots of problem,my question is will this problems (touch lag, poor camera, poor battery performance) can be avoidable with custom ROMs? Or its hardware related problems? And finally can u guys also give me link to latest recovery which can backup data without problem? Thank you so much, all answers appreciated
Buy the phone right now. It is the best deal you will ever get and replace Stock ROM with your choice of Custom ROM. It is hardware wise a great phone. Or you could spend some more and get a Realme 3 or Redmi Note 7s.

As far as I can remember it only goes up to Balanced but with GFX tools you can run it on High. I personally haven't played PUBG for a few months now.
I would recommend AEX (some customisation) or Pixel XP (most stable) for Custom ROMs in terms of performance.
You can get 6/64 variant from 2GUD at 9k only
