Hi all,
I'm very new to that scene so sorry if it is obvious but I can't figure out what roms actually can run Pokémon go. Does anyone have any feedback on what roms work / don't work? Picked up an s7 G935F and didn't get warned it had SU already on it. Figured might as well get a better rom while fixing it.
Any recommendations on a rom, or even advice on how to tell if a rom can indeed run Pokémon go currently? Is it just Magisk compatable that I should watch for? I'd rather keep the root if I can and play around. Already got Odin and Twrk working
Found the below link from 130 days ago... Is this still the fix most people use? If so any rom should work right?

Hi peeps,
I know these plenty on theards on all this but they all seem to be outdated and not sure if they're all for the right device's etc.
I have already rooted with kingroot but not sure how to install custom recovery. All the youtube vids are in different languages.
So if someone would be kind enough to put a fresh tut on a custom rom pref android 5.*.*
Also the bloody memory thing is doing my head in. Ive installed app2sd and a few others and cant seem to get them on my sd card.
Thanks in advance and I'm sure others would be intreasted as well due to the price of the Blade L2 now. Got mine for £59.99 which for the specs is a bargain, It just can be so much better with the right rom on it.
Ive managed to install a custom recovery, not sure which one but seems ok. its not cwm or anything.
Just want the most up to date rom, also if anyone could list the handsets that roms are cross compatible with would be great.
Thanks once again
I am currently on MIUI 7, the one just before it updates to MIUI 8. What I want to know is, what is the best possible custom rom I can flash to that will work with this device? I have Team Win Recovery 3.0.0.0 installed.
I have installed Redmi 2 2014811 for my casual user (no root or else) with this base rom : miui_HM2XWCProGlobal_V8.0.7.0.LHJMIDG_3240991baf_5.1.zip via CWM

Cool thanks, I will look up the rom. I thought about Android 6 or 7, but see those still have some major issues here and there.

Major issues?which ROM r u talking about?there are so many ROMs those are pretty stable.Only minor bugs(miui also have this)
BTW devs work very hard for these ROMs and they got nothing but our thanks and encouragement. These custom ROMs are way better in performance and customization than sluggish and heavy MIUI rom.
My phone is 8months old and this phone is still with me because of efforts of devs.
So don't be so demanding about 200% no bug and be thankful to them.

Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful. I worked on Windows Mobile roms back in the day so know what type of work goes into it. I have only started to look at custom roms today and am so completely lost, guess I chose the wrong word being major. When i said major I had camera and Gps in mind, as I saw some of those roms had issues with those. So again, no disrespect meant from my side and I apologize if It came out that way. I was just kind of hoping someone could bump me in the right direction. The last time this phone was flashed the previous owner flashed it in such a way that the sim card could not be detected, after fixing that I flashed a MIUI rom, but that was sort of the Chinese version and stuff like google services did not work properly and push notifications would not work unless you turn the phone on and go into the app. So yeah if you can point me in the right direction I will appreciate it a lot.

Video recording was a issue for Nougat based ROM but it has been fixed. And about gps, it is working fine (i like to use waze)with Marshmallow based ROM.I don't know about nougat as I didn't fully moved to nougat.I have downloaded Tesla (N) and sodamod(cm 14) today .So I will report you soon about GPS in Nougat.
Till now I have tried cm(M),RR(M),DU(M),Tesla(M),orion(M),zephyre(M),AICP(M),AOKP(M).Most of them has kept my expectation. Now I am on project-x(M).It is also suberb with almost no problem.
If you want to stick with miui based then there is also"thunder-miui" by @gkalen.
Try these ROMs and see which is suitable for you.I like to stick with cm based for C.M.T.E.
Edit:-GPS works fine in nougat.
Lollipop (5.x) - CM 12.1
Marshmallow (6.x) - MoKee
Nougat (7.x) - I only tested Suda not good for daily driver
Hi People
Unfortunately not had any replies to my 1st post about what bloatware and preinstalled apps that I am able to remove from the device after rooting it.
Could I try from another Angle could anyone provide a link for a custom rom that I could try and install which would remove it by installing a custom rom?
Sorry guys but I'm desperate to get the crap off and free up the device storage!
Thanks
Paul

If you goal is to free up space just removing preinstalled apps won't help that much since you are only modifying the system partition which is fixed and readonly. As for custom ROMs, since you are a T285 user you have the benefit of a wide range of ROMs to choose from, for 5.1.1 you have the tinker edition roms, on the other hand the 6.0.1 (CM, Omnirom) and 7.1.1 (Lineage, Omnirom) based roms allow adoptable storage, of course the 6.0.1 and 7.1.1 roms have problems just take note of the issues and problems each build has and see if it works for you. Just take a look at the ROMs and custom kernel section of this forum.
Thanks Jedid, would these roms remove bloatware upon installation? Which would you say is the most stable? Are they installed using Odin?

when you "install" these ROMs they actually replace the entire system and boot partition of your device, so they don't remove anything they replace it. In theory the Tinker Edition variant is the most "stable" as it is just stock with some apps removed. For non-stock based firmware (CM, LineageOS, Omnirom) I guess CM-13 has the most hardware support. Yes you use Odin to install these.
You wouldn't have clear step by step instructions to follow would you please? New to this it is rooted twrp and supersu.
Also could you provide the Rom on the tablet as it is now incase ever what to return it to normal.
Hi Guys I managed to install the Tinker Edition 5.1.1, it's still got kids mode Hancom, Samsung smart manager still on there? I don't seem to be able to move to SD card I thought you could on this rom? If not could anyone assist please?

Only 6.0.1 and 7.1.1 based roms like CM, Lineage and OmniRom support adoptable storage. For Tinker Edition use root apps like Link2SD to move to SD card.
With links2sd can you move any apps on the device to SD card? Are there any that do need to be left on the device?
After turning on the device today I don't seem to be connect to my wifi. Saying failed to obtain IP address also won't connect using tether from my phone either. All other devices in the household are connected fine, and there were no issues prior to installing Tinker edition rom last night. Can anyone help please? How to rectify? I've switched off router rebooted I've switched off device and still won't connect?
Sorted problem, the IP address needed changing!
If I have now installed custom rom after rooting my SM -T285 how do I put it back to how it was from new with no root or custom rom, none of the apps like sky sports mobile virgin media anywhere will work on a rooted device!

you can download the stock rom from sammobile, updato and then flash using odin
Would that over ride any custom rom then? Or would have to unroot after installing stock rom

In my experience, it's often more stable to root the stock firmware and then remove the bloatware (using Titanium Backup or Link2SD). That way you have a rom that's tailored for the device and you don't have issues like the camera not working on custom roms, certain video codecs that aren't supported, ...
Unless there's an official CyanogenMod or LineageOS for the device.

That is what I want, but can't seem to get it done. The newest Magisk is not working. Older versions aren't. Anyone got it done? Just need root to get storage rights for external SD for Syncthing..
ok, got root working now. used the "old" way, supersu, for an old ROM..
So I'm looking for advice, there must be someone that plays this game, so my friend got me into Fate GO ,but I keep getting error 60 which according to google means my phone is rooted OR may be because it is not an official ROM
so far I tried clean installs of RR and lineage OS
