Not booting - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hey guys question. Ever since yesterday for some reason anything i try to install will not boot. I have tried different roms and cant figure it out. any help would be appreciated. this is my only phone.

What have you tried, what model?
If you used Dirty Santa , I've seen a lot of people able to fix boot issues by following this step in his guide

It has come to my attention that some users have encountered abnormally long first boot time(over 20 minutes before first time setup)
To resolve this issue:
Boot into bootloader by pulling the battery and reinserting it and holding VOL- and phugging in the phone. then typing:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot2.img
fastboot reboot

I have tried about 4 different roms and completely wiping and installing. the only thing that works is re flashing my stock backup i made after i rooted. I will try flashing boot2. Do roms change boot images when you flash? I am on the verizon verient.

I'm not sure if you should flash the boot if you're on a custom rom. I am no expert so I don't want to make you brick your device.
Full wipe including formatting data when you are reinstalling custom roms?

Are you getting any errors whilst flashing custom roms?
The only thing I can think of right now would be following the steps from step 4 and reinstall and root a stock Verizon rom to see if it fixes your issue.
If that doesn't work someone else will have to come along and suggest some things.

/system definitely needs to be mounted before flash and after flash as well, otherwise it cannot override your stock rom.
Are you getting an error while trying to mount it? Or only during backup procedure? I was able to fix some mounting issues by simply rebooting TWRP.

[Q] HELP! Stuck in a boot loop :(

*RESOLVED*
I tried to update to 4.2.2 manually and got stuck in a bootloop. The first time, I got an error message (attached) and rebooted, so I went into Voodoo Root protector and deleted my backup of SU thinking that could be the problem. I tried again, got the same error, and now I'm in a bootloop. I am on stock Android 4.2.1 and using Franco Kernel r72. Please help me.
Thanks.

If you have unlocked bootloader, download Nexus 4 image from here, unzip it to get the various factory images and then flash using fastboot. If you have locked bootloader, you will have to unlock it using
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
.
CAUTION: This will wipe all data.
Follow this guide to re-root and install CWM.

Is there any way for me to keep my data? How do I cleanly do it? If I do need to wipe data, what do I do? Do I just go into CWM and tell it to wipe the data and then flash the operating system? I saw some instructions that had me flashing all sorts of stuff (i.e. radios etc). Sorry for all the questions.

My bootloader is unlocked. What exactly do I flash from the 4.2.2 image? Do I need to wipe my data first or is my data just wiped in the process?

yes, in cwm. wipe data then flash the rom. you can try just reflashing your rom first, without wiping data. if it still bootloops, then wipe data and reflash. flashing the system img via fastboit will wipe everything.

Since you aren't running the stock kernel, one of the kernel modules failed an md5sum check for a patch and the install stopped before attempting to patch a file that wasn't equal to what it was expecting.
a wipe data/factory reset in Recovery Mode can solve this bootloop, especially after you have just flashed a ROM.

Flashing from fastboot will automatically clear all data. There should be a system.img file. Flash it using
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
But to make a clean install, I would recommend you flash all the factory images. Refer this for more detail.

reflash the rom. franco kernel isnt flashable in recovery, you need to flash it via fastboot(.img file not a .zip).

Flashing the factory images will have restored the stock kernel.
If you are going to flash a factory image or anything like that, watch this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039162
after you flash that ROM, if your phone stucks in a bootloop, then go to Recovery, wipe cache and reset factory will solve the problem.

na, the kernel is always included in the rom. you flash a kernel if you want to use a different kernel(trinity is great with stock).

Roms won't work

I have RAZR with locked boot loader. I am rooted and have safetrap installed. I wipe cache and dalvik and it fails when I try to wipe data. Then I install stock ROM deoxidized and it only boots to boot loader and I have to restore phone with rsd lite. Whats is the proper procedure and why doesn't data wipe?

Hello, yes, I wipe cache and dalvik, then i rebooted back into recovery, hit mount button, checked box to mount, installed rom and rebooted and it goes to a failed bootloader. If I didnt have RSD i guess i would be bricked. I just dont want to lose this phone.
Thanks.
Are you making a slot and flashing there, or trying to flash over the stock slot? You won't be able to flash over stock, and this might be why it's failing. I also noticed that Avi crossed out the Safe Strap instructions in his thread, so maybe this won't actually work for SS.
rom slot needed?

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash over the stock slot. If you're using SS on a locked bootloader, you can only restore over the stock slot. It's not about being temperamental, it's about having a locked BL.

Can't flash ANY ROM on nexus 7 2012 wifi

Everytime no matter what ROM I flash on this tablet I just get a bootloop and then I can't do anything in recovery like mounting SD card for instance.
I'm not completely new to this game, I have a nexus 5 that I'm always playing with and never had problems like this with the s3 or HTC one x. Could I be over looking something? Any help or guidance is much appreciated.

I have a similar problem. I flashed ParanoidAndroid yesterday and everything seemed okay but now everything I try to launch or install an app the tablet reboots, and I tried to flash cyanogen, flash stock, do all the wipes and factory resets but always reboots to the damaged Paranoid Android ROM.

[Q] Galaxy S4 I9500 Root and Recovery

Hi Guys
Hope you are well. Need some help here.
I installed twrp via ODIN, and also rooted my stock i9500. I did not do anything else.
I then booted into recovery wiped etc etc (Forgot to make a backup) and flashed GT-I9500XXUGNJ1_OzcanRom_Aroma_v6.2.zip ROM.
Rebooted, the SAMSUNG logo came up, its animating, and is not booting into the OS? I also wiped again and flashed ROM
Prism-Barebone-V13-NJ1.zip (Also tried another recovery CWM, same thing)
Did i miss anything, or how would i get this device recovered?
Anyone?

Not sure if i did anything wrong.... but it just gives me the spinning Samsung logo
Well then either you didn't wipe properly or somehow the .zip file is damaged.

I am currently downloading the stock firmware to load via ODIN. I hope this works
But the custom ROMS just dont want to work...

I found out, that my Root was not successfull. After ODIN firmware flash, i rerooted, installed customer ROM and it booted up!

Glad you got it working but your explanation is unlikely.
Root has nothing to do with flashing custom roms. You don't need root to flash a custom rom, just a custom recovery. It's probably just the reflashing of the stock rom that fixed it.

Problem with TWRP mounting (mmcblk0p39)

Trying to flash a custom ROM, actually, when flashing pretty much all ROMS with 3.0.2, I get the following error: "mount: Failed to mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p39 at /cust: Device or resource busy" I believed this didn't pose a problem, since all ROMs had flashed fine, or so I thought, until I tried to flash one of HTCMania's customs and it had to change the system font, but didn't. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Or how can this be fixed?

sorry for late answer,Nautilus rom is base on hw/eu location with build number C432B564,you need to flash location https://mega.nz/#!aB9kUDST!q_mT6cq9uEQjvscnbXBZq3B1X6BWsMk7iYKaDjfFzJU flash with twrp, then try to install Nautilus rom,for @sokkoban KangVIP you need chinese location, well i don't have that location you should search your self

I think you need to unmount /cust before you start to work with it. I checked the original Chinese rom which was it converted from and those guys are unmounting all mountpoins in the beginning of the install script (META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script):
Code:
ifelse(is_mounted("/data"), unmount("/data"));
ifelse(is_mounted("/system"), unmount("/system"));
ifelse(is_mounted("/cust"), unmount("/cust"));
This goes before the "ui_print("Formatting cust...");" line.
Sokkoban doesn't do it in his script so I thing that should be the problem.
I just switched my location to cn the other day and tried to install the new KangVIP B569. It went well, but i couldn't figure out how to install gapps (and I needed my phone live again...) so I switched back sokoban's modded KangVIP B564 version which has the same error during install. But it didn't stucked this time at extracting system and I guess it flashed /cust fine as well. And that was at 3am and I did not have the spirit to try to fix the script and flash again... Anyway you can try the code above but I suggest to switch location to cn and go for the latest KangVIP B569 or sokoban's KangVIP B564 (and you can try the script fix before flash). If you go with KangVIP B569 and you can figure out how to install gapps to please share.
If you stuck with location switching or don't know how to get official cn 6.0 android (also requirement for the modded 6.0) drop me a message and I try to recollect how I done that.
Good luck.
