Is my J500FN dead? - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
I have a (obviously big) big problem with my wife's SM-J500FN.
After WiFi problems I installed the App "Root Essentials" to do a "Wipe Cache Partition", due to some forum threads I found.
Unfortunately the Reboot to Recovery didn't work - now it seems to be bricked...
I tried some guides written in some threads here but nothing helped.
Here is what the phone shows (on start screen):
hxxps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7tGTxvXq1SceFFsbVRRYTRsdWM/view (change xx to tt)
I can switch to download mode and connect to Odin, but I'm not sure which files to take.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Do it again and follow the instructions .
- Make sure your device is in USB debugging mode: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging
- Reboot your device into download mode: Turn the device off, then power it on again by pressing and holding VolumeDown + Home + Power simultaneously. You will know when you are in download mode, it is really obvious
- Start ODIN
- Connect the device to your computer using USB
- Wait a few seconds, the ODIN screen should show you that a device is now connected
- Make sure that in ODIN NOTHING is checked, except the "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" checkboxes. Press the "PDA" button, and select the "XWKDD_insecure.tar" file.
- Press "Start". ODIN you should now be flashing the kernel, and the device should reboot.
- Wait until the device is rebooted, and while still being connected over USB, start SuperOneClick, and press ROOT.
- Reboot the device
- Done !

Thanks for the quick reply,
thats the same file i flashed. I re-downloaded the file from the link you posted and flashed again in Odin. Same result I can confirm the phone is in usb de-bug, the phone was turned off and started in the download mode (black screen) I got pass ok in Odin. The phone restarted afterwards but i get the same. When the program gets to this stage it locks up and has to be ended by task manager. Im running windows 7 x64 pc with i7850 processor ddr3 ram..
on the tut the file is called XWKDD_insecure.tar inside the rar file on the post its called zimage with no extension, i had to manually add the .tar to get odin to view it.

Any suggestions?

Why did you extract a tar file to make a tar file the instructions are to Flash XWKDD insecure .tar . as PDA through Odin
Long guide (for beginners)
- Download the attached ODIN file and extract the .zip file
- Download the attached XWKDD, but do NOT extract the .tar file

so no problem at all!!
Hey guys , I rooted my SGS2 with XWKDD_insecure.tar and superoneclick.
Everthing worked fine.
But after a while I found out, that I couldn´t make any videos with the device´s camera. All new recorded vids couldn´t be played. Message "unrecognised file type".
So, I decided to get some other ROM. I wanded to flash the litening 2.0 Rom and flashed it with odin.
But no flash changed my device. Yesterday I had thousands of konversations with experts from a german android forum. noone could held me.
Every odin flash seemed to finish correctly with PASS. But after reboot, my device always has the same state, the same kernel version, all installed apps after my rooting were gone, messages, images... all were gone, except these I had on my device before the rooting I did.
If I install e.g. CWM Manager and select the action "boot into recovery mode", I only can see the Options "reboot now", "install update from sd", "wipe data" and "wipe partition".
All data saved by my device, doesn´t stay on it, after i rebooted it.
It looks like after every boot, my device loads a special recovery point, like system recovery on e.g. Win XP.
Anybody an idea?
Nobody here who can help me with this problem? ...
Hello Humphrey,
when you boot into recovery, you can see ' update.zip' , usually that is cwm. Rom manager installs update-zip before you can use rom manager. Install update.zip via rom manager just incase that update-zip is not cwm, unless you know it is. When you install update-zip, via recovery and it comes back as unable to verify zip, then you are not rooted.
The cwm will allow you to format the caches and system, delvik and battery and then allow you to install a complete rom with a rooted kernel. To be quite honest, Oden could brick your phone because you are using 2 hardwares, computer and phone. I have found it easier to download a zipped rom to your sd card and use cwm to flash it. Remember to format everything I said but not usb or sd. I have found Designgears Cognition 1.13 rom, not 1.15, to be ideal. I also use Zeam desktop, which I find ideal. Cognition is already rooted. Rom manager has glitches, so I don't use it to reboot into recovery or anything else but to look at roms, which I don't download via rommanger. Also, I'm fed-up with downloading stock roms and then having to find a rooted rom and using Odin.
I hope you find this useful.

[Q] S4 stuck on "Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505" logo

Hello guys,
Previously, i tried to root my S4 and somehow it failed. I got this error message like "Super SU binary not installed.." I wanted to get rid of supersu in the system because it is giving me problems like my wifi cannot enable anymore. So, i performed backup and reset option but the supersu program is still inside my phone. i then tried to play with the recovery mode: "apply update from external storage" with the file - I9505_Omega_v3.0_XXUAME2_md5_05D08D598EF1873761CFF710BB628B25.zip, "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", etc. After i performed them several times, my phone now is not booting and only stuck at Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505" logo.
i've been reading several forums and most of them are saying that Flash ROM is needed. Therefore, i tried to download I9505XXUAME2_I9505OLBAMDM_SIN.zip from samfirmware.com but before the download finishes, my pc is showing me error message against this file and thus, the download is unsuccessful! Im running out of solutions guys, i really appreciate if you could help me.
What phone model do you have is it SPH-L720? Or the European version?

Head over to http://galaxys4root.com
They have a lot of useful tools and youtube videos on how completely restore your phone to stock.
What I would suggest is to follow the method listed on this site under the "GS4 stock firmware" tab.
To do this, use ODIN (which is a leaked software from samsung used to flash firmwares to devices) to re-flash the firmware to the phone (recovery and all)
THIS WILL DELETE ALL DATA ON THE PHONE!
It sounds like you don't have any acces to the phone, so I'm sure that is the least of your worries.
Use either this site or the sam firmware website.
CONFIRM WITH THE LABEL UNDER THE BATTERY FOR YOUR DEVICE MODEL NUMBER
You MUST use the correct firmware, otherwise you will run into problems like this.
Once you have the odin, drivers, and firmwares downloaded, run ODIN (with admin privileges) and select the firmware that was downloaded for your device for the PDA section.
Unplug the phone from the computer, boot into "download/odin mode" by starting from the phone turned off, turn it on, but before pressing the power button, old the home and vol down buttons, then power button.
Once you see the download mode on the phone screen, and the odin software recognizes it, there will be a button on ODIN that says "flash" or something to that effect.
Let the software do its thing and you should be good to go.
If you are using a windows PC, you need to make sure you have all the drivers, if you are using a mac/linux machine, there is a program called "Heimdall" that is an open source, cross platform version of ODIN, but I personally haven't had any luck with it, and I resorted to dual booting my mac with Windows 7.
If you have any questions feel free to reply, as I pretty much always have a phone/tablet/computer in front of me and will be able to see your reply quickly.
Good Luck!

USB connection failed, stuck on boot logo.

Hello friendroids,
First I want to say that I have already searched if someone had the same problem as mine. I cannot guarantee I have been through all the threads already posted but I tried to investigate, finding solutions that were not suitable to my case.
1) Explanation of my problem:
As a good noob I tried for the first time to root my Nexus 4. I am using a Mac Book Pro running OSX 10.9.3.
I have managed to unlock the bootloader but can only run the Recovery mode using ClorckworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.3.
I have already done "wipe data/factory reset" and if everything had went well, the next step was to reboot the system and install "UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.80.zip" using Android File Transfer.
Now this is when I think I did something wrong. I cannot remember for sure but I think I said "no" twice at the screen that said "root[something]", that did not appear in the tutorial I was following. Unfortunately I cannot remember the "something part" because the second time it just rebooted itself and got stuck on the booting animated colored bubbles. So I tried to turn it off but I might have unplugged it before it was off. I could not turn it off straight away (maybe for misusing the physical buttons...) and my screen was saying "DOWNLOAD MODE DO NOT UNPLUG the device until the process is complete." At that time I had my phone plugged again before seeing this screen.
Then I turned it off, booted the recovery mode, and following the Q&A section of the same tutorial, I wiped the cache partition and the dalvik cache (several times).
2)Question.
So now I am stuck on the same booting logo, unable to exchange files between the Nexus and the Mac through Android File Transfer. The good news (if I may say so), is that the battery is still charging through the USB cable when connected on the Mac.
Has anyone any thoughts on how to help me finish to root it, fix the USB connection and install OmniRom (in whichever order you want)?
Thank you very much for reading and for the general purpose of this forum. :fingers-crossed:
PS: Can I put a link of the tutorial I was following for better understanding of my problem or is against the rules?
If you just want to install omni rom then you don't need to root you device. Download the zip file and flash it using custom recovery or sideloading. Since you cannot boot you will have to go with sideloading.
And yes, you can post the link of the tutorial.

Lenovo A6000 Softbricked---- Needs some help--Please

Please note that I have done search and tried various solutions before starting this thread :
Hi My A6000 phone got factory reset and then I tried to recover some lost pics...but I was advised that my phone needs to be rooted first, so the software opened kingo root soft, It showed me the message that phone has been rooted and when it rebooted there was a notification of software update which I said ok and ever since then the phone is stuck on system recovery mode (not sure if it is called soft brick or not) and I have tried many things including choosing all the options starting from reboot system now, apply update from ADB, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, apply update from sdcard but nothing seems to work!!! oh I for got to mention on the top of the screen it says Androoid system recovery <3e>Kraft -A6000_S035_150507 and then gives all the option and i have tried this following :
https://boycracked.wordpress.com/2015/06/03/unbrick-lenovo-a6000/
but some how for the first solution it keeps on saying download failed, emergency recovery download failed...anyways it does not work
I have also tried this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/chef-central/android/unbrick-lenovo-a6000-plus-lenovo-a6000-t3137247
but it has ADB killed (tried looking and installing adbfixer solution--it says it cannot finf adb.exe even though it is there)
Is there any soultion to this!!! Please help if there is one!
the link from boycracked (mentioned above )actually worked the trick was to hold vol up+down key (while the phone is off) and then insert the usb into your computer, secondly my computer kept of saying that qualcomms --digital signatures not verified and the port is supposed to be Qualcomm Lenovo HS-USB QDLoader 9008 where as mine showed up to 9091, to solve this I uninstalled the drivers and then disabled digital signatures (use goggle how to disable signatures verification on whichever windows you are using) and it worked fine. Thank you all
install cwm
Install cwm from pc and then try
Use HW flash tool
Even my Lenovo a6000 plus was bricked. But mine is more complicated than your's.
I've installed CWM recovery before. But unable to access it, atleast native Android recovery either.
"Rev-app" folder from "System" folder were deleted unfortunately. I couldn't even wipe, hard reset or anything.
After a long struggle, i've found a way out. I've came across a Qualcomm flash tool "HW OneKeyDownload Tool".
And finally, i won on it!
Download it from here: docs.google(.)com/uc?id=0B3qYFBKKL2hieDM1RUNMQWRsSHc
You need to have:
1. Mobile drivers installed
2. Universal ADB drivers (That ZIP will have it)
3. Stock ROM or any custom ROM
See this post on AndroidXDA for more info:
androidxda(.)com/download-hw-onekeydownload-tool
install cwwm
installing cwm from pc is the best way to unbrick
Dont feel bro.just follow the steps which u tried before to install cwm.but before that if ur pc cant find ur mobile.then use this command.
"Adb shell"
And it shows searching for device.
Then put ur battery out and insert it again.ur device will be detect by pc.

Recently I was tried to update mobile firmware (latest Kraft-A6000-S_S014_150730) by OTA update (via system settings->about phone->system update), that time my mobile was soft bricked like above you said. I downloaded firmware and installed then some time after got some options menu. And I attached that problem as picture.
Before that I rooted my mobile using KINGROOT apk v4.0 , there after I did unroot again using in the same app.
I thought unrooted mobile does not affect by system update (any firmware or OTA update by LENOVO). But unfortunately my mobile got problem.
I didn't took any backup before that. I don't know anything about CWM backup and all. I know only the root and unroot using KINGROOT app.
I need to recover my mobile back or tell me how to install LENOVO A6000 PLUS stock ROM or any other way is there tell me to solve the problem. Please guide me step by step process or any video link there it was little better to understand for me.
Please help me, it will be appreciated. Thanks.
Attach the device to PC through USB cable and Install the CWM through ADB .
Install the Stock Kernel through Update Zip option within the CWM.
That will freshly installs the Android OS.

Bricked Galaxy Young GT-S5360 - ODIN Flashable Files + PIT File

First: I'm a noob. I only know the basics, and I am sure someone asked this before but I simply can't find it, after weeks and weeks of searching.
I have an original Samsung Galaxy Young from when it first came out. Recently tried to install a custom rom on it and 1. didn't back it up 2. didn't even root
It now boot loops or sends me to Recovery mode. From what I've read it's a soft brick, because I still can access the recovery mode.
Whenever I try anything it tells me:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I tried installing CWM from one of the threads here that still work (installed v6.0.1.2)
The menu opens but nothing works (ie: wiping cache, system, etc...)
I tried installing a custom rom with CWM: Can't mount cache; Can't open last_install: No such device
I tried installing TWRP and it doesn't work either
Tried ODIN (in admin) but phone doesn't appear (I installed the samsung drivers)
I simply can't find anything. I'm so sorry of asking you all to help such a rookie that makes dumb mistakes but I simply can't find any answers anywhere
Please, please help me.
Have u tried vol- + home + power keys?
Samsung have specific called Download Mode like semi-fastboot on most brands.
Same'kind of answer, did you boot in Odin mode before connecting the phone to the computer in order to'use this soft (that should unbrick your device if you flash a dedicated stock rom)

Yes and no: I tried it but it didn't work for some reason, but I just tried it now and it worked. i'll keep you updated if it works
Okay so it worked. Here's what I did in detail in case someone who doesn't understand anything ever needs these files (took me weeks to actually find them):
1. Install Odin3 v1.85 (i found mine on hardreset.info)
2. Get the partitioned firmware from here or from the attached files
3. Then, I entered download mode on my Galaxy Young (Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button)
4. Opened Odin v1.85 with Administrator Perms
5. Put totoro_0623.pit in PIT
6. BOOT_S5360XXMK1_REV05.tar in Bootloader
7. PDA_S5360XXMK1_REV05.tar.md5 in PDA
(I didn't put anything in phone but i guess you can put the MODEM file in that section, don't quote me on that)
8. GT-S5360-csc-DBTML1.tar.md5 in CSC
9. Checked Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. reset Time
10. Pressed START
And now everything works just fine!
The thing that was missing was 1. Odin Mode on the phone and 2. Odin flashable firmware (sammobile premium locked so I had to go look elsewhere)
