Is there a way to patch the true tablet UI back into 4.2? I'm LOVING the new features, enough so that I'd put up with the phablet UI, but, I still loved the old one. I know it JUST came out, but someone has to have some idea at the least. Would it be possible to import and merge the old UI somewhat? Taking the old tablet UI, and merging it(even manually) with the new phablet UI, to create something that looks and functions like the tablet UI, but is usable on 4.2. Any thoughts?
Breath and sit tight, someone will get it figured out

No way on stock I don't think. Custom roms have had Tablet Mode as a select-able option in settings, for a while now. I've been running SmoothRom for MONTHS using Tablet Mode.
From my understanding, Google removed the Tablet UI mode from the newer versions. The old code is still there, supposedly, but it requires custom coding to remake the connections for it to work.
Just remember:
Stock + Modifications = Custom
Sounds like you are wanting to use a custom rom anyway.
In the Apps & Themes subforum there is a thread for a flashable way to add it. Requires root obviously.

I just found a flashable zip for CM. But I'm on stock 4.2.2 with root.

A 2 second search in the subforum yields a thread with the title " [06/04/13][MOD+ROM][4.2.2][Stock Mods for odex and deodex][Reboot Menu and TabletUI]"
How much easier can it be?

I have searched for an hour - I found nothing. Maybe I was just to stupid
But thanks a lot for your help.
I knew what I was looking for so searched for "tabletui" so perhaps that's why it was easy to find. But honestly there's tons of useful things over in that subforum just browse through the titles and don't stop after the first page. The Nexus has been out almost a year now and some of the apps and fixes just worked so the last post may have been awhile ago simply because there's nothing new to say.

Or SmoothRom or AOKP or many of the several others that support Tablet UI out of the box. I've actually found PA's Tablet UI to be buggier.
Mine has always worked well. I don't see a difference in the two.

I just tried it, and the dialer didn't change at all. I believe if the OP were to upload his contacts.apk we might see results, since much of the dialer's appearance is drawn from contacts.apk.

Here at xda rooting is highly encouraged, but what if you don't want to jump ship enjoy what your s3 can do without voiding your warranty in some cases.
Here is what you can do :
1- Widget locker
This app is one of my personal favourites you can customise your lock screen as much as you like add desktop widgets toggles change the sliders etc etc you get the picture.
2- flip fonts
One of the hidden features of the s3 is the ability to change the font type to anything you want there is a thread on the apps and themes section just for that by bala_gamer
3-Custom launcher
These are great want to look like an iPhone no problem there is a launcher for that windows 8 sense they are all available just do a Google search some of them even support themes customise it to your liking
4-custom keyboards
These are amazing the number of keyboards out there is stunning and they have unlimited variations you can swipe to type tap change the colours and themes
5-live wallpapers
These will make your phone come to life from a Facebook and Twitter feeds to simple clocks that you can interact with they are all available
I hope I helped I will be updating this with more apps and links and pics soon

Throwing it against the wall personally, and buying a 9305 instead like I will.

Prove it.
why spend $500 on a phone and not take full control over it? having bloat is very annoying and running apps that require root is amazing.
sent from where i'm at.
Because some people buy a phone and just want it to work. Rooting takes a lot of time if you actually read all the instructions and precautions
No root then no XDA Developers forum exists .
Instead you have a fix my phone my phone is cooler than your phone forum with few posts .

Having a Non Rooted S3 is like having Ferrari FSD (For Sunday Drivers) with speed limiter on board and half of the features disabled.... You can drive it but you'll never know what the real fun is It's good idea for people who can't drive but fancy hot ride same applies to Non Rooted S3 (or any Android device)

I've replied to that question above
Hello everyone!
I just updated my Nexus 4 to Android 4.4, but it seems there has changed as good as nothing. (I was running Nova Launcher when I was updating, if that is relevant).
I don't find any of the new functions of the new android version: normally you can just swipe from the left to acces google now, but not on my Nexus. Everything seems to be just like android 4.3: the appdrawer, the homescreens, ... There are only a few things that have actually changed: the icons, the settings menu and the lockscreen.
I thought the problem could have been that I was running Nova Launcher while installing the update.
Does someone know what I can do to have the full Kitkat experience? I've already deleted Nova Launcher by now and the stock Launcher is set as default.
Could a clean install help me out?
PS: I can post some screenshots later if my explanation here isn't clear.
Thanks in advance!
Are you sure you updated? And are you sure you set Google search as your launcher in the launcher settings?
Sent from my N4, wanna know what I am doing? Check http://team-fun.eu
Search for and install Googlehome.apk
Nexus 4 KitKat update is different from Nexus 5. For example 4 is missing the new Google Experience launcher, transparent lockscreen. For GEL just install Google Home. For full transparent lockscreen flash this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527525.
Also if you like Nova launcher, join Nova launcher beta group on Google+ and became a tester. Nova beta supports transparent bars (you need enable it in settings).

I'm not sure why you bothered ether since we are both technically in the right.
Forget search it's lately almost always at the top of general (excluding sticky threads). If you can find how to post a new thread I'm sure you can find a highly active thread in general.

It's just that the constant “use the search” type of replies are about as effective as the war on drugs. You can take a dealer or user off the streets, but that will not do anything to actually impact the level of drug use or distribution. Likewise, there will always be people who don't use the search, so why not just ignore them so the thread dies, or actually offer a helpful response.
I'm more in the right. But that's probably because I'm awesome.

Some of you may have seen this:

Turns out it appears to work for the Note 4 Marshmellow users as well. I've been using it for only a little bit, one change I noticed is that it removes the Sprint branding in the upper left without requiring root. I searched for the app in Galaxy Apps, it wasn't available there, but you can download the apk attached to this post
The recent apps feature is pretty terrible, but it's something different you guys can try.
EDIT: I tried this with the fingerprint scanner, it made me not able to get past the lock screen, all I saw was a blank wallpaper. I guess it works on the Note 4 but not optimized for it. I was able to finally get past it by clicking on the notifications, messing with the settings on GoodLock, causing it to crash, and then my phone rebooted with it uninstalled.
This is interesting. I'm testing it out to see how it goes. Can you say anything about battery life compared to without it?

CAREFUL!! I just set up finger print scanner with this to see how it functions, now I can't get past the lock screen, all I see is my wallpaper, even in safe mode, I might have to do a hard reset :\
Edit: finally got past the fingerprint scanner after the app crashed and made my phone reboot, and then gave me the option to type in the password instead. It worked great prior to setting that portion up though, so mixed feelings about it so far.

negative. there's a lockscreen bypass you can flash in TWRP
it simply disables your lockscreen. I have seen it and for some time, had it, but no longer thanks to a goofed internalsd format ;(
if you find it, please post link!
It felt laggy to me, I've already taken it down. I love the notification bar though

not really imo, apart from letting you group notifications and setting alerts for them, and making the notification pull down menu look closer to stock android.
Edit: I take that back. When you take a screenshot now it comes up with 3 options, more/share/crop. If you hit more, it lets you take a scrolling screenshot without having to use the s-pen.

Alright, well, I jumped back on board to see if I could make this work for me. What I did was install the APK as usual and then used TB to delete the system UI (launcher). Since I use NOVA anyway, I also deleted TouchWiz and TouchWiz Easy crap... This setup has me running faster and with better battery life than ever before! Can't wait for a kernel for this MM situation!

That's crazy that you deleted TouchWiz, didn't even know that was possible lol, hopefully you don't run into any issues, because I had it crash once which caused it to just uninstall itself from my phone.
Good Lock updated with some gesture controls (Which I have yet to test) and bug fixes.
