What are some of the best new features for Nougat? I went through all the settings and didn't find too much new stuff.
I really like the performance mode option, the new System UI, and Device Maintenance in general
i missed double tapping recents to quick switch to last app from when I had the V20. Now its feels nice. Plus seeing 3rd party notification icons at the always-on-display.
Like increased resolution, maintenance stuff, ability to force all apps into multi view (developer options)
Like scrolling screenshots too

Got my update earlier today, in my case the settings menu is nicer, the flashlight LED intensity slider is cool, and the overall look of the UI so far. Nova Launcher works great with Nougat.

Tap once on the text of the icon, not on the icon itself.
I LOVE marking a message as read from the notification. Smaller toggles are nice too.
The only thing that I dislike is the removal of the fingerprint unlock animation but besides that I've been loving N since the start of the beta

If you take a screenshot while in 1080p mode then zoom in the difference is noticeable. But only if you zoom in. But I've tried using 1080p resolution for several days and saw no battery life increase so I just stick with 2k.
The fact I almost have my note 7 back
Thanks for the replies about screen resolution. I didn't notice any battery or speed difference either, that's why I asked.

I started using LauncherPro and it's like a whole new tablet (I heard ADW works, too). Some things that I love about it (I hold in Landscape always). See screenshot to see what I mean
http://i.imgur.com/kTuHF.jpg
-Full use of screen real estate (I have set to 10 x10 grid). I can now have icons all the way to the edges and top/bottom of screen. No more enforced white space
-Widgets
- First, LauncherPro widgets...I prefer the list view of Bookmarks
- Resizable widgets - an absolute necessity imho. Can even resize things like original bookmark widget, gmail, etc.
- Method of adding - I love the vertical list view of what I'm adding vs. having to scroll horizontally through pages and pages of widgets.
-Dock - I love having my 5 favorite apps on the right side of screen. It feels natural holding the device and choosing with thumb. Still have top/right link to open App Drawer (Wonder if ADW allows for more than 5 icons in your dock)
-Folders - why isn't there folders capabilities in Honeycomb?
-Screen Preview - Being able to click home and see all 5 (or even 7) screens and quickly jump
How did you install launcher pro on it? I would also like to use this.
Thought he was still rewriting it. ?

Downloaded from his website and side loaded it. Here is the link to the latest version which I used.

Also go to Settings > Applications > and check "Unknown Sources" to install.

Sweet. No fc or any? Worst case scenario installing this is just fc it right? Now software dmg or anything? Noob question.

That seems logical, however, it's just as choppy and laggy when you have the Xoom upside down (camera down, HDMI up). I only observe smooth transitions when in the standard, landscape position (and even this isn't always lag-free).

dxTop
I use dxTop Pro on my Xoom, pretty nice interaction. But I didn't set it as default. So each time I hit the home button I get a pop up to select either dxtop or launcher (the xoom default home). I find dxTop as a good alternative. That's why I don't use it as default, just when I wanna play around with a new home. Plus it offer the same exact 3D effects as the default home on the xoom. But with dxTop you have a "cube like" interface. So you can swipe up, swipe down, swipe left and right, and there is a swip for the center. So in all u have about 5 different swipe positon. Not just the current left to right position on the xoom default. You can google it for a demo and more info. Just thought i'll add my 2ยข.
I've used LauncherPro for about two years, on different devices, and it was always my go-to launcher, because it was fast, functional, and looked great. But ever since I bought my GNote it's been one of the worst launchers. It stuttered even when doing simple homescreen swipes.
After trying out most LauncherPro settings I tried...
Rooting and overclocking - zilch
Switching ROMs (Rocket -> Cassies) - Nada
Overclocking those - nope
Installed the latest kernels (Abyss 3.3&3.4 -> FM 1.5 & 2.0 -> Speedmod) - no chance
That's when I returned to LauncherPro settings and changed the one thing that used to make LauncherPro the smoothest on my last two phones.
Preferences -> Advanced -> Memory Usage Settings -> Homescreen Cache Type -> Compressed or Light
I've tried all three settings on my old phones and LauncherPro functioned best with "normal" but the GNote is just different I guess. I hope this helps.
P.S. make sure to keep: General Settings -> "Keep in memory" checked
I had problems with a lot of 3rd party launchers, but after i adjusted the DPI to 240 (stock 800x480 DPI) i do not have this problem anymore.

My experience with these launchers are;
Launcher Pro - Smooth with Home screen scrolling but lags / stutters on app drawer scrolling.
Go Launcher - Lags/ stutters on Home screen scrolling but smooth on app scrolling. Disabling High Quality Drawing minimizes the lag on Home Home Screen scrolling.
Twouchwiz - lag-free but lacks the features and flexibility of Launcherpro and Go Launcher.

Do you guys think the lag will be gone once we get ICS? Or does the launcher app have to be coded to use hardware acceleration?

It should be gone with ICS seeing how well nexus runs on ICS
Also don't expect much out of Launcher Pro. It hasn't been updated in forever.
If you have 2D acceleration checked on CM9 ICS ...there is no lag whatsoever. Tested ADW.

That sounds promising, so maybe in the end ICS will solve all of our lagginess issues. BTW slightly off topic, but has there been any progress on getting the camera app to work? That is the one major thing I cannot live without for a daily driver ROM.
have you guys tried disabling "elastic scrolling" on launcherpro? I did mine, what a huge improvement on smoothness! It's comparable now to touchwiz

Your welcome! I'm glad I could give back, no matter how small, to this great community.
Strange, I never really had an issue with homescreen swiping with LP, but only with the app drawer opening/closing effect.
This change didn't do anything for that, unfortunately.
And I don't understand why some of you say Touchwiz is smooth. I found it so laggy when I got it! (KK1 kernel) So first thing I did was to get rid of it, and found LP so much smoother (except for app drawer opening).

To be honest: I can't see any appreciable advantage after activating this kind of "powerguzzler"... just skip it, folks!

Just wonderering if anyone is using the Google Experience launcher? Looks really good on the note almost feels like a Nexus experience. Also it responds to the OK google command on the home screen. Always listening which I thought was only a feature on the Nexus 5 / Motorola?
I hate touchwiz and it was one of the main reasons I was hesitant about buying the note. Now I have the best of both world, best tablet and nexus like experience. The Spen etc still work perfectly. Worth giving it a try..

Hello guys,
I'm coming in from the Note Pro side and wanted to reflect the OP comments. The launcher is smooth as butter and as stated it's as though the GNL was made for the Galaxy Note lineup. Have you turned off screen rotation by mistake?
Just access the normal Samsung setting screen (by tugging the top of the screen down with your finger) and it is the 4th option from the left. Make sure it is selected... Only thing I can. Think of. Bet you have unselected it by mistake.

Yes, if you put the icons on the bottom row, then it is a dock and doesn't move as you swipe between screens.
I've got the paid Nova Launcher as well. I've stuck with it on my S3, but I haven't gone back on the tablet yet. On the S3, I thought the icons were too big and there is zero customization. However, I've enjoyed the Google Now Launcher on the tablet more so than I thought I would.
If there was a Google Now widget that is always listening that I could use with Nova, I would go back. Heck, I might still go back after the novelty of "Ok Google" wears off.
I finally did it......GREAT LAUNCHER!!!

If only they included a way to make the on screen navigation buttons smaller. Guess we'll have to rely on eXposed.
