Unlocked Bootloader splash/boot page? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Presumably like all of you who have unlocked your bootloader, I am faced each time I boot with the garbage page with random text telling me "my software cannot be checked for corruption". Can anyone tell me where that page is stored (partition or folder) would be thankful for any information.

Its not random, and if you look closer its a bootmenu. you can get past it marginally quicker by just tapping power button or use it to boot to recovery, fastboot/bootloader, etc.
And you cannot remove it.

You can go back to b20...

@nujackk and @lafester .. Thanks both of you for your comments. @nujackk I accept that the screen is a way of booting into fastboot mode, I just never used it, before I installed TWRP I always used MiFav Recovery to boot into fastboot. I am presuming that the screen is an integral part of the boot image and I shall continue to try and hunt it down.
@lafester as always lol your comment.
If either of you are interested I am just going to set up a new thread in "Themes Apps and Mods" where I shall post 3 flashable zip boot animations and hopefully in the coming days I will add to them.

The screen is part of the bootloader image. I strongly advise you to just live with it since if you screw up the bootloader you're bricked.

Might I suggest you start by looking around in the bootloader unlock zip. Might give you some idea where it is or if it can be removed.
Also look at older list mentioning it, I remember seeing mention of other phones it's been used on, maybe someone has more info in one of those forums.
And I will look for those boot animations. If I can suggest a superman or superAndy would be nice
Good Hunting

I know what you are talking about - on older motorola phones we did away with it - it was just a stored image in those phones. Seeing as how here it is a fully functional menu I would bet any attempt to remove or replace it would most definitely brick the phone. I gave up on it a long time ago.

@lafester .. @nujackk .. @bkores .. @tabletalker7 .. Thanks guys for all your comments - I guess my next step eventually, there is no great hurry for this, is to make certain I have a couple of good backups before messing around with disassembling the bootloader and boot image. If I ever get anywhere with this I will let you guys know.
@nujackk I note your comments re the animations. I'm about to add another Andy animation to the thread but have searched in the past for usable Superman material without much success, however I will see what I can find.

Yeah I haven't seen many that were very good either, but keeping hope alive :fingers-crossed:

Root Status

Well, I've asked a mod to lock the other root status thread. It was getting kind of out of hand. After about page 80, people stopped looking at what we had done so far, and trying to help by putting ideas out that already failed.
This is what we know:
Fastboot is locked down in everything but oem-78 mode. You can get to this mode by typing "reboot oem-78" at an adb shell. Fastboot is essentially unlocked, allowing fastboot boot and fastboot flash, only the .img images we try to boot or flash NEED TO BE SIGNED.
Goldcards no longer allow non signed firmware to be loaded, only signed firmware with a different SID.
All known flashing methods require the .img files to be signed by HTC. We do not have the privatekey, nor do we have any way to decrypt the key as it is RSA. Meaning this is a NO GO.
All previous known exploits (asroot2, g1 telnetd, DROID update.zip method) have been patched. They won't work. And there isn't a way around this.
All the partitions except /data are mounted as read only. Meaning, without root access, there is NO way to modify them. In the init.rc file, they are mounted rw, and directly after that mounted ro. We can read and write to /data as we wish, but NOTHING important is here.
The only folder anything can run as root out of is /system/bin. Every other partition is mounted with the nosuid option, meaning code CANNOT be run as root. Simple enough. We can't run anything as the user root, or the group root.
Lets try to stay a little more on topic this time. Please don't let this become another 40 pages of complete crap. And please keep this thread about root access, any other problems should be posted in the appropriate forum.
Thanks, and lets get this root done!
I'm currently comparing superboot.img in a hex editor to the vanilla boot.img for that phone so I can better understand what he did, and how. I'll see what I can turn up, maybe we can make one for the eris.
EDIT: It seems it's not going to be so easy. There's a lot of things changed. It appears he changed something at the top of the file right after the header, and then there is some sort of (SHA1?) hash right below that, but I don't know what it's calculated from. This is beyond my skills at the moment, I think.
Are any of the fields changed from the original boot.img show up in our boot.img? Chance of searching for each field in our img and replacing with possibly what he did?
is it possible that the guy who made superboot has htc signature, or somehow decrypted it???? 8-O
Yes I guess anything is possable but I think their is a better chance of monkeys flying out of my butt.
well i guess it was time to lock the other thread as some people could not play nice..... so i guess we will use this one now..... next idea anyone, and i am guessing jman will no longer be joing us, so it looks like we are on our own.
im ready to get this done what have we got so far?
About 140 pages of failed attempts.
well i know that much i have been sitting back following from the begining now im ready to get my hands dirty, though i have no clue what im doing

I don't think I'll be following these threads anymore. I try to help you guys, but in the end some of you just don't appreciate the help.
I don't claim to be an expert, and I never promised anybody that I could root their phone. I simply have information to share that I think has brought you guys to a greater understanding of your phones and the Android system. Most of you are thankful, but I really don't need to be attacked personally in these threads that don't even have anything to do with my phone.
I'd like to thank the moderator for locking down the other forum, I'd also like to thank whichever moderator deleted the message that was quite insulting to me.... I only happened to see it because it came into my email. Yes, I subscribed to the thread via email to try to keep up with you guys and offer any help I could as quickly as I could.
I'm sorry guys, I wish you luck, but I just don't need to be berated in open forum like that for trying to help the Eris owners out, so I won't be keeping up with your rooting efforts.
There are a couple of you that have been very appreciative, and please feel free to PM me.
Thanks jman and I understand, if I was in your shoes I would do the same and I reported that post almost right after it was posted hoping you would not see it. But I know for me I have a greater understanding of my phone and like I have said before Thank you very much for your help. It's a shame to see you go but we understand.

doubt this will help, its all that htc tech support would throw up at me.

Thanks for sticking through with us. You've been extremely helpful since day one, and I would like to say thanks and basically say what Binny said above.
I haven't had a lot of time to follow the thread, but, I too, am happy that it was locked. Hopefully the Eris owners can regroup in a day or so after we all chill out. Sigh. Fingers are still crossed for root.
Has anyone been able to actually BOOT any of the images extracted from the rom.zip via fastboot in oem-78 mode? If so, and you could post how, I might have access to an image with root access. I've tried repeated times to perform "fastboot boot recovery.img" but it sends it and then sticks on "booting..." I have moved forward with the RUU at this point, but the device never actually boots into the img.
Unfortunately, I cannot not upload the image due to my job.
Also, if anyone can help with goldcard downgrading, I might be able to downgrade to an old version with root access. My downgrade continues to fail due to the bootloader version being too high. I created the goldcard per the appropriate thread and it appeared to work as the Cell South thread indicated, but still no dice on the downgrade.
If your gold card is made right it should work.... are you putting the .zip on you gold card and renameing it PB00IMG.zip?

Yes, but it still fails with error 43, I believe. "Main version check"

Yes. Perhaps goldcard doesn't work on this device like it's supposed to.

Bricked?

A good friend of mine supposedly shut off his A500 during a upgrade/update. The unit still powers on but all I can get it to show is "boot verified failed..." in the upper-left corner of the Acer screen. I've downloaded several ROMs and tried reflashing from the SD card but no luck in reviving this. All I get is the Android triangle. I've reformatted the SD card. I've tried the Vol + power + screen lock stuff, too. I can't get to any other screen to change any settings... period. Many of the ROMs that I would like to try are dead links now that the government has shut them down. This is a US unit. Would someone be kind enough to direct me to where I can get the right stock ROM so I can at least get this thing running for him?

Thanks for your response and it DOES look like it would work... IF I could access anything on the tablet - like enabling USB Debugging, etc. I can't get to it. What I need is something I can flash or boot right from the SD card as that's the only thing I have access to.
with this you do not need to have access to nothing. Download the file From the thread above to your windows pc. OPEN THE Zip file. it will have all the tools and A VERY DETAILED set of instructions. Find the instruction file and fallow it.
Many people have used this with ease. If you want help just flashing another.zip file. post the rom that was on the tablet . the recovery installed as well.

OK, I tried it out and it doesn't pick up the tablet as I don't think USB debugging is enabled and I have no way to enable it. That's why I'm asking for a method to flash it from the SD card.
BTW, I found the S/N inside the SD card door.
You could try decrypting one of the update roms;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
Note that some are encrypted, and you have to de-crypt with the tool listed there.
Extract and copy the update.zip. Copy to SD.
Boot by vol- or vol+, and see if it will install.
There are a couple of other tips in the threads, like toggling the button for Portrait lock, to force the tab to start formatting.

Hey, really, it's no problem. Glad we all could help get you up and running.
No, I haven't used that method, since my HTC desire. Same principle though.
I'd tell you the principle behind it, but it's rather long.
Glad you got it going.
My pals and I, are launching a new site. Hopefully it will be for people not so technically PHD'd with android. Not quite so technical as XDA. You're more than welcome to place some info, when we launch. It's more community orientated, so a different venue.
XDA, is, and always will be the place to come for the really technical stuff. As you see, there are users here, which will give you what they know. May not always be the fix, but, some people here "do" care.

It seems that I was fiddling with my OTA and I lost my original build Kind of bummed out, and also the fact that I don't even know how to do a full backup. I did a nandroid backup which doesn't even work. I update to the new ICS firmware and messed up everything...Now I'm left in a gutter feeling utterly upset and don't know what to do. If there's anybody who pity's me, please help. It would be sincerely appreciated. I just want to start off fresh.

Yeah, I share the pity with you Mate. You shouldn't have to look at that busted tab. Just put that shameful thing in a box and mail it to me, to help ease your pain. Heck, I'll toss in shipping so you won't suffer further insult and pain...
Seriously, though, there are plenty of tools and procedures here to bring it back to life.
First off, before you muck things up further, I would look in your nandroid backup, and get the UID number. Hopefully you wrote this down somewhere before you originally messed with things?
For starters, I would goto this link, and see if it works for you...

At this moment right now, my a500 tab has that orange light on the bottom and it stays there, and when I turn on the tab it starts up normally like it would, and when it does it turns off. The strange thing is that orange charging light where the power button is, stays on even though I'm not even charging it.
I've tried changing the OTA, but after when it starts in the corner it says something like. " Not official blob" I'm not even sure I know what that even means....I have everything including nandroid backed up all the files into the SD card I had in my tab, I notice is there somewhere due to the amount of space it consumed on my SD.
So please! IF you know of any way to fix this I would be in great appreciation, also it's been a month since I've had this tab, as well I have a 2 year warranty.

Have you tried putting a stock update.zip on the root of your external sdcard and booting the tablet by holding the volume down button (left volume rocker) down while pressing the power button until the tablet finds the file and installs it. This should bring you back to unrooted stock ICS with locked bootloader and you can start over. Remember, this must be an update.zip file that is extracted from a stock RUU. You can't just rename a RUU file to update.zip.

Well, you get the orange light because your EC Pwr management is probably fubarred. That should be fixed when you install a stock rom as suggested in both mine and the other poster.
Considering you have your UID, you should be ok.
Of course I don't know if this is a 3.2 or an ICS UID. Best to have both. The sbk is the same, but the uid numbers differ.
If it's a 3.2., check the Q&A thread for a post I did for a guy earlier today.
But you should be able to follow the steps for the update I posted earlier.
Blob means Bootloader. And looks like you had an unlocked bootloader?
Try to roll back to 3.2. That's where I would start.

So like everytime I turn on the tab it shuts down instantly, as well every time I try to boot an update.zip file onto the SD card it shows this animation of the android with this circular sphere in it's stomach after that it falls over with a red caution sign.

In my experience the common cause for ending up with a caution sign is a corrupted update.zip (incomplete download, bad SD card, etc.). As for the tablet shutting down, my guess is that's related to the power management functions being broken.
im not THEE most savvy here but i do know a few methods and find it easy to discover lesser known ones, i feel bad for you . if you want you can skype video me and ill try talking it over and maybe a few methods? :highfive:
edit: ok from what i can tell your update was bad and your bootloader is causing problems, the power problems are probably arising from the bad power management as moscow desire told.
the tabs obviously rooted n all right? ok so how about flashing the v7 ics bootloader then trying a custom rom?......<-also recommended by moscow desire

edit: ok from what i can tell your update was bad and your bootloader is causing problems, the power problems are probably arising from the bad power management as moscow desire told.
the tabs obviously rooted n all right? ok so how about flashing the v7 ics bootloader then trying a custom rom?......<-also recommended by moscow desire

Hi Chismay, well I thought I fixed the issue and the problem. Guess again I did not This I can't believed I used a leaked ICS OTA, kinda ruined most of the things in my tab. Lol just had it for a month and already messed it up by fooling around with it. But your help is greatly appreciated buddy! Would like to get a one on one instructions on what I should do.
Cheers!
Correct me if I'm wrong on this...
1. You originally had Honeycomb on your tablet.
2. You flashed FlexReaper on your tablet
3. You probably got a recent version of FlexReaper.
4. You never upgraded your bootloader.
5. You can still get access to recovery.
If all of these are correct, then I think I know what the problem is. It appears you flashed a rom that requires the ICS bootloader and not the Honeycomb bootloader.
This, I think, is an easy fix...
1. Download the following file: http://www.darktremor.info/files/FLEXREAPER-R12.5-ICS-1.031.00.zip (this is an older version I have on my Acer A500).
2. Put the file on your SD card.
3. Boot up into recovery (if you can't get there, stop here).
4. Once you are in recovery, flash the FlexReaper file you just put on your SD card.
5. Now try to boot and see if it works.
Let me know how it works either here, in a PM, or e-mail me at [email protected]. If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to contact me.

Hahaha! Good job on guessing all that! I just followed your order from step to step and I was about to boot up normally! Everything might be erased and stuff, but hey at least I have my tablet working again :good: Case solved!

Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x19000008) after hard reset

Hey,
first of all: my Acer Iconia A500 is not rootet and I have no custom rom installed. It's all "original" and I don't want to do anything, that kills my warranty.
Yesterday I tried to upload some videos to youtube using "Google Chrome"-browser, but the Tablet crashed when I tried to open the directory where the videos are stored in.
In the top left corner of the screen was written something about a "mounting recovery image" or something like that (I can't remember). After that the tablet restartet but it won't go any further than the "acer"-logo.
I tried a few things I read in the forums but nothing helped:
pressed the "reset"-button at the bottom right side with a needel: tablet restartet but hangs again at "acer"-logo
pressed the "volume down"- and the "power"-button at the same time an released the power-button when the screen turns on: some writings in the top left corner of the screen (something about erasing cache... I could not read it because it disappeared to fast), then an Android-Symbol with some kind of cube in front ob the belly, then an Android-Symbol lying on the back with a red exclamation mark symbol on top of it.
pressed the "volume up"- and the "power"-button at the same time, released the power-button when the screen turns on and switched the lock switch on and off and on and off: top left corner of the screen says "Erasing Userdata... Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x19000008).
Now I really need some help... what can I do to make my tablet work again?
Thanks in advance

Take a look for the ICS UPDATE files for the a500. Might be 3 or 4 of them.
Download them to your PC. DO NOT EXTRACT
You may or may not need to decrypt them first. Should be a Decrypt tool on the same thread.
After decrypt, open the rom.zip with 7zip (or similar zip program) Again, DO NOT EXTRACT. Just pull the update.zip out of it. Copy it to your ext sd card.
Holding Vol+ and PWR, boot the tab and remain holding untill you see the install start.
Now, you may have to try more than 1 of those update roms. But one of them should work.
Should get you going. If not,. your bootloader partition may be hosed and need acer repair.
Oh, and you will more than likely lose most of your data, so don't be surprised if some fotos and such are missing.
MD
I have the same problem as TS.
Trying to solve this but i can't find a decrypter.
You say it in the same thread some where, but it reads "coming soon"
Please help
Acer Decrypter
Here is the Decrypter tool.
Unzip the contents to a folder. Select your rom.zip
Decrypt it. New file will have the word "decrypted" in the file name.
Takes a couple of minutes.
MD
Thanks.
Sadly it doesn't work for me.
Nr 4 the one that doesn't have to be uncrypted seems a bit to work.
My tablet starts up with the acer logo and then i see flashing "ANDROID" for 18 seconds then 2 seconds blank screen then the flashing android again.
This goes on and on, i have let it go for about 2 hours but nothing changes.
Anyone any idea?
help please

This is what I would do if that was happening on my tablet.
First. I would get Blackthund3rs APX tool. Then I'd run it and follow the directions. Basically it goes something like this. Starting at the first screen of the APX Tool. Browse Bundles. Type in number 17 after getting the bundle list from the bundle market. Set it to be staged for flash. Enter your SBK. Use whichever BCT that you want. Enter APX manually, follow the onscreen prompts. and when you get to the end it will tell you to restart your tablet. But first... This next part is really important if you are on a stock rom. Reboot, but do so with the volume rocker pushed for entering CWM. ( The one on the left in landscape.) If you don't the rom will wipe the recovery that you just installed during the boot process and then you'll get to start all over. Once you get into CWM goto the wipe menu and do them all except the battery stats.
From there you can...
Reboot and see if the rom starts. (I'll bet that it will.)
Or you can flash any custom rom that you want/have, (put it on your sd card before you start.)
Or. If you want to go back to stock you could grab a 3.2 stock rom from the link posted above and install that. It will remove the custom bootloader and CWM. You will be totally factory stock after that.
Good luck.
Wow wait a moment.
I am a complete noob with this.
I don't know the you use and as you may have noticed; you're language is not mine language
Stock rom means the original rom ?
Going to search for the APX tool (whatever that means) and take a look.
Thanks sofar.

U will need either "civato's manual nvFlash" or an "EUU" based rollback (timmyDeans V4) to repair the bootloader - once that's fixed u can flash a stock rom to get back to factory original. Links and guides in the cpuid thread - if u need further help, ask away I know it can be really frustrating and the no.1 cause is always 'drivers', once u can get them installed AND adb running correctly then you're halfway home!! One thing I've learned with the Acer is everything is built upon u following the guides in a strictly orderly fashion, try to skip a step or not complete the preceding step correctly will always result in failure BUT the error will not show up straight away - u might get 3 or 4 steps further along b4 error'ing out...which is why its so darn difficult to troubleshoot....the only thing these tools cannot fix is a hardware issue..if this is the case then it will need to be sent to Acer for repairs....good luck

Acer A500 and believing in xda . . . right or wrong?
My past forum posts say it all with exception of this: (in essence: purchased new stock A500 16GB, forgot pattern, locked up during OTA two days before expiration of warranty Sept 2012 used xda developers suggestions for reset (update.zip) and today have nothing but:
Erasing Userdata... (in white on black screen)
Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x19000008) (red on black screen)
During my time trusting xda developers, I've encountered the full spectrum of online personas - both ends of the rainbow people. Regarding software, I found some interesting things in one of the (opened in "read only") "update.zip" files while just looking through the metadata and other files (I could open in notepad read only) hoping to find some useable reference and indeed found them tampered with. Not sure how you can police everything people post for our "help" but now wonder what my options are.
Not that xda could have forseen Acer rescinding the files, I missed the window of the Acer A500 stock rom last year and any reference now is either very old (2011), 404 - not found, or link to sites which install devious 3rd party software. I take precautionary measures hopefully relieving myself of risk but I'm not a tech. My tablet was not rooted nor altered in any way, just locked. I was able to download all my files with Mobogenie because obviously my keypresses were incorrect and all the information was retained on the tablet until last night. Last week, trying to reinstall a new version of the update.zip that didn't have the words "stupid user" and other code with null directives or whatever it's called in "code" lingo, in the binary file (opened in read only), and also before the wipe found a bootloader installed and how to explain is just too much. Is there a validated, quality reference one can use from xda developers that isn't compromised? Which someone with less than an Associate Degree and older than 15 can follow at this point?
I will donate out of my paltry SS income of 600 a month to whomever can lead me, step by step, to recover my A500 or find at this point it necessary to move on. :fingers-crossed:

How bizarre, never encountered files like that here b4?? There's a root guide in my Sig you're gonna need to look at. All files there have been d/l'ed multiple times with never a complaint, so far!!
First off, an update.zip is of no use.
You need an nvFlash-based tool. Either a EUU like tdv4 or the infamous babsector.rar file.
2nd, you are gonna need yr cpuid. See cpuid guide in my Sig. Until you can retrieve it you're stuck with a brick.
Have a read thru those 2 guides. You'll have questions after that so just post back here

What LS997-compatible ROM contains *all* working LG Stock Apps?

So the whole reason I rooted this damn phone was to be able to install working stock apps. Not just the Music and Gallery apps either--ALL THE LG APPS. Which LS997-compatible 100%-working ROM can I flash and get them all, if any? I keep hearing one exists, but no one bothers sharing that info and when I search I find nothing.
Really? No one?

@bgibson72
Im the only person developing a STOCK LS997 rom currently.. It contains the LG base apps and all the removed ones that we didnt get shipped with out model . Includes a ton of extras as well, alternatively we have 3 or 4 aosp roms you can use, but make sure you use twrp and backup your efs before flashing as it tends to jumble your programming up and cause issues. Otherwise you can flash the stock rom the Dev who provided the dirty santa unlock method.
Theres a good bit of info here to locate everything you need to have a awesome experience with the LG V20!

Hey thanks--I was fairly sure this was the ROM in question. Thank you for providing this! I was hesitant to flash because I'm always a little skeptical about the amount of help I'll get should I get stuck. I'm not exactly a noob at this, but I have plenty to learn. It looks like you've done a lot of work to provide a positive experience, so I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I promise to read and re-read the instructions on the first 3 posts, and to NOT bother you with questions that have already been addressed in the thread. . Thanks!!

if you made it through dirty santa the rest should be cake. 99% of the issues i covered for people were
after going to AOSP and not having a backup of their programing info in their efs and having to find a way to
manually go in and fix each fd up piece.
The other is being on older software and downloading a OTA and rebooting with it in your internal storage.
This one causes a endless boot loop into twrp, so be advised to delete the update if your on older software or be prepared to
hit my post # 3 for fixes and be near a pc as you need to fastboot erase the fota and misc directories to resolve the boot loop. A twrp wipe will not fix it and restores etc wont either lol.
Otherwise theres now a lil over 100 pages of chatting and troubleshooting, fixes and things that have gone on, and mostly its all outdated as ive provided the fixes for 99% of everything in the latest version 7.5
Just be prepared to take 15-20 minutes for the phone to boot up the 1st time. My rom is deodexed, and the 1st boot is doing 298 things before you get to the optimization part. There is not boot animations as the phone will always have the static screen issue on reboots so i went ahead a placed a disabled command there to just save time/batt life. The setup wizard is stripped and only there to give you the notice its done booting and time to get to playing around.
Magisk is kinda finicy being its systemless design. It takes some time to get used to it, and be aware that some older apps that dont support exotic root or systemless root may not request root and not fully work. Titanium backup is one i know is getting attacked by googles app scanning and needs to have that turned off before it will work, most of my apps have a option to set "force root" so it asks for a root request regardless if it understands MagiskSu's root methods.
just some food for thought. Hope everything goes well, and there is a ton of people on the forum here that have great knowlege and can help with troubleshooting issues you may have
