[Discussion] How many of you have switched to Nougat? - ONE General

The title says it all. Lets have a general discussion on how many people have really switched to Nougat - why have you / why have you not?
For me, after testing tons of Nougat based ROMs (PureNexus, LOS, CM14.1, RR, AOSP, AOSPlusOne, Slim7, etc) I switched back again to COS 13.1.2 because it has by far proved to be the most stable for me - I use camera extensively on my phone (Snapchat, Instagram are secondary, I do smartphone photography as well) and COS provides the best camera quality for me in all the apps. Camera quality is always the primary reason I have to switch back to COS. Performance and battery have been decent for me on COS too. I get around 4.5-5 hours of SOT with my regular usage always.

I switched to Nougat because it is latest and certainly has fixes and security patches over previous version and also every custom rom and even devs only build for Nougat now.
And most importantly it does my daily routine work with my device perfectly so there's no reason switching back to MM unless a burden falls upon you
Again not to forget the delicious ui on Nougat.

As in signature: I'm on TugaPowerROM N.
It comes rooted with MagiskSU, features ViPER4Arise audio and OMS7 (Substratum) theming engine.
CyanogenMod has switched to LineageOS, and Cyanogen Inc. ceased all activities.
Like Mr.Ak, I think that staying with COS will lead to vulnerabilities. TugaPowerROM is often updated, with latest Android security patches.

I really liked Nougat, and respect how all the development has shifted to N.
I just can't stand cameras of N ROMs ATM. Maybe in the future, they get better!

Completely agree to the COS part, i really want to switch. But i have a certain ocd when it comes to checking the camera quality in all the regular apps I use (whatsapp, instagram, snapchat, vsco, etc).
I guess i'll just have to look over this 'minor' niggle

What about the Xosp rom by @KalilDev?
I think it has pretty good camera with OOs blobs.
Or you really can't stand the OMS part? But Cos also doesnt support OMS.

All we have is an blueish UI with some nice Xperia additions and fancy icons. If you don't like the launcher you can switch , and , if you don't like the icons , you can apply new ones with the stock XOSP launcher . I hope you like it

The lags are because abkernel is agressive sometimes , my testers are checking for good kernel configs , and the best one will be featured in the rom. i would love to check the kernel , but my bacon is broken , so , i cant

Been testing a few nugat ROMs but everyone seems to have some king and off issue. Since I don't needs or want root because I want too use banking apps. And I want fast charging. Aka up to 2amp as you get on stock or cm13. Havnt found one that does both this things.

Its not activated by default. You need to flash an addon zip to activate it.
This was done so as to enable users to run such root unfriendly apps.

MM Android 6.0.1 Ho do you find with the new hydrogen ROM?

Do you find any bugs or improvement?
I've never installed any hydrogen ROM (always oxygen) but i'm curious to know if MM is more fluid than LP.
Does doze works?

Well, I've tested it. I can say that the Fingerprint is a huge improvement compare to OxygenOS' one. For the rest of the ROM, it seems to be pretty solid and smooth. I don't tested it more than 20 minutes (really don't like HydrogenOS..), but yeah, it seems to be a good improvement compare to OxygenOS in general. But I've had some troubles going back to OxygenOS, so if you want to test it out by yourself, be sure TO BACKUP EVERYTHING important into your PC (or out your phone).
But yeah, I hope OxygenOS will be as fast and stable as HydrogenOS is.

Here's hoping. I just can't get used to H2OS any time I've tried it. I guess I'd still rather use something closer to stock Android, even if it doesn't perform as well!
But if you change hidrogen launcher (with nova or GEL) doesn't seems like a vanilla ROM? Are there other changes from Oxygen over the quick settings and the launcher?
p.s. is only in english and chinese?

yes, only 2 language
the difference are in, launcher, notification, quick setting, different swipe (left for close app o erase notification, right for open notification or lock app, so you can't kill it in multitasking)
I've been running it for a couple of days. First thing I did was to remove some of the Chinese stuff. Second was to change the launcher.
There are fewer options for customization, probably because MM is new to the opt, and that its beta software.
The thing I miss is the automatic activation of do not disturb from the cm builds, not a deal breaker. There's no dark theme, but layers manager seems to do the trick.
It's fast, FP works better than any lollipop rom I've tried and at par or better with the FP on iPhone.
The only problem I e noticed with camera is occasionally it's slow to respond, possible due to doze, also the audio level seems to vary when recording video.
I didn't notice smart lock, but my email server prevents me from using it anyways.
The sound quality from the speaker seems clearer.
I've always had poor battery life battery is much improved, and it got better when I removed Facebook, this is subjective as I haven't tested it out much.
Some of the settings are hard to find, but it a learning curve.
Wifi will drop when doing a soft reboot, for theme changes, and it won't reboot into recovery with flashify, or reboot at all with xposed, again no big deal. Cycling wifi on/off in control panel brings it back I've occasionally lost the 4G/3G indicator, but data is still active, again cycling data on/off brings it back.
A few xposed modules won't work with mm, but that's kind of DUH, they aren't updated. I'm impatient for "alert slider" to get an update, as the flashlight on is very useful to me. I haven't installed many modules as they all are for lollipop. YouTube background playback works.
LTE seems to work, but it says 4G, I can use either sim and get LTE, something I missed on any other MM rom.
I did lose my twrp, but I flashed it over adb, and it now working with power and vol+
I installed kingmericans hos today. Like everyone has noticed FP is blazing fast. Rest is more or less the same as LP hos. A few lags here and there but it's definitely way better than OOS. Even I CNT get used to hos. I revert back to vanilla android eventually but I'm glad at least one plus got one of their ROMs to be nice.
I found it fast and stable. Great job, I was happy in lollipop, now I'm 10x times happier with this device even we don't have custom kernels yet. (Of course nobody will work in a kernel for a leaked beta)

For me was terrible. Now I clean flash it again and it looks better, I will test a few more days. Now I have 3h screen with maps 40m (GPS), WiFi and 4G, and 47% left.
I should erase logkits and all that stuff. I don't do it because I have done it before (before 2nd clean flash) and i had terrible battery life.

I used the leak for 2 days had a hard time coming back so i wouldnt recommend it.... But there were many bugs beyond that, the phone was extremely fast and fp sensor was just amazing didnt get an error in 2 days that ive used and but bugs do persist.. Lets just wait for the stock oos, its gonna be a great update

Using Kingmercians Hydrogen OS and with Google Now Launcher it is really quite amazing. Sure, it isn't as good as Oxygen, but it is Marshmallow and that alone makes it worth it. You can customize Hydrogen OS to be perfectly OK and while Oxygen is indeed preferred I'd rather use this until Oxygen comes out and then just install Oxygen, it's not like it is hard to switch ROM's.
Well it's butter. Can't stand OOS after this. Xposed works so customization galore. Of course battery is much better. Heck even Viper works. Finally OP2 works.
H²OS MM <3
Hey !
I just give my personal opinion.
I find this first beta v1.0.2 & TWRP 3.0.0 by Kingmercians incredibly robust and fluid.
The FP sensor is a marvel and is faster than the iPhone 6 Plus ! ;p
In addition it consumes nothing with Servicely ! And the best part about it is that the power save mode is 100% lag free !
I tried to return the phone in all directions, with Xposed v80 where I encountered some problems with Gravity Box...
Especially the percentage of battery level that does not stop to make small jumps. If I put the default settings in Gravity Box and puts the battery percentage from the system menu, it disappears in seconds...
(So I deleted Gravity Box and everything is back to normal when you reboot.)
If not except it Locale More works very well too. (For me it's in French !)
One last thing if I had the choice the first time I used the Oneplus 2 to change the preinstalled ROM (OOS), I would do it again when we see H²OS is its superb IOS like interface.
At any point of view I prefer H²OS.
Do not forget this is a beta, some bug not very important, works better than OxygenOS 2.2.0, there is no doubt.
Peace.

[Discussion] Favourite rom/kernel and why?

Hi all, thought I'd start this discussion (following a success of such thread I started for the OnePlus 5T) just for a place to talk about what rom we're all running at present, for what reasons etc. to offer an overview of what choices are available for our great device. Having this one thread for an ongoing discussion will prove handy for us all to keep up to date.
I've just purchased a Pixel 2 XL which will arrive in a couple of days and I'll be selling my OnePlus 5T. As much as I love it, I really wanted to have the stereo speakers, water resistance, great camera and fast updates.
So indeed, what roms/kernels do people suggest? I'm thinking Nitrogen OS will be my first rom...
I alternate between stock and DU atm. After the March security update, I'm going to try Nitrogen. It was my favorite rom on my 6p, and Nittin, the maintainer, is very good at fixing bugs and offering support. As far as kernels go, it's tough to beat Flash. He updates that kernel shortly after upstream changes are posted. Having said that, Snoke and Ex are also very good if you want to stay close to the stock Google kernel. And that's my 2 pennies worth ??

Yeah not taking anything away from Current ROMs, it's just that the stock ROM with just the right ingredients suites me better :good:
Yes there is a Magisk mod to customise the squeeze, haven't used personally yet though.
I really don't like having Xposed but chose to install for Flat Style Bar Indicators
Flash Kernel .....Just Sublime
Substratum to. change the nav keys

Yeah that could be how I end up to be honest! Am I right in thinking that Nitrogen OS is essentially a stock rom but modded? As so opposed to Lineage based or anything like that?
What I most want from a rom:
- stock camera quality/performance
- be able to swap recents/back button
- long press actions (eg back for kill, recents to last app, home button launch torch)
I'm not too bothered about many other mods

How to u alternate du and go back to stock, Everytime I flash du and go back to stock it using script to flash stock to both slots I lost my data because it ask me to factory reset all the time
AquariOS has been my DD going on a month now. Solid and has most everything you would need. Great ROM??
I think i agree with the most of pixel users,
Stock with a personal ingredients on top, that always work best,
My current setup is
• Feb Stock
• Flash Kernel/Kirisakura (am juggling between version)
• xPosed for Instant Face Unlock, Flat Style Status Bar, SudoHide (stop that app update notif in playstore, hide the app from it), and Exposed Edge
• using screen gesture & fingerprint scanner gesture control to do everything (back, home, recent, app cycling, shortcut, you name it). There goes the annoying on screen nav bar. And here come the fully immersive screen, all the time !
• Viper4FX + Dolby Atmos through Magisk
• Nova launcher with icon pack & google companion
• Substratum
• Adblock + WireGuard
• iYTBP - Just like how YouTube supposed to be. Background playback with no Ads.

Simple. My stock rom is on slot A, and my DU is on slot B. When I want to switch, I go into twrp, change to the slot I want to be active, then do a twrp factory reset, then restore my backup and that's pretty much it. I've probably done that half a dozen times in the last month ??

I've been loving nitrogen and flashk. Has been running great since day one. Even with... Xposed installed. Lol. If i need my squeeze fix i go to stock for a bit ?. Never thought squeezie phone would be useful. Ive ran du and AquariOs also. There all great roms, very happy to have as much development as there is for the xl2. As far as kernels ive really only used flash. But all of the a available ones are from great devs and worth trying.
Ever since my first Android device (Nexus 6P), I've mainly run PureNexus. Got a Pixel XL and had PN on that too. Switched to the OnePlus 5 and had PureFusion on that as it was basically PureNexus for the OnePlus 5. Got the 5T and it kind of felt like a downgrade. Vibration motor felt "loose" or weak to me, and initially there was not much development for it, including the lack of PureFusion. Development kicked in eventually but I just wanted to come back to Google at that point.
Found someone to trade my 5T with, and now I'm the happy owner of a 2 XL My setup is:
Stock Feb update
Magisk 16.0
Xposed for Oreo
Using GravityBox to fill in the empty spaces stock leaves. I've always used custom ROMs in the past and this is my first time being happy with stock, and that is mainly because of the customization GravityBox offers!
As for kernels, I use flash because he was super helpful back in the 6P days, and is an awesome developer in general, so I want to support him! Also, he updates so frequently and I'm a total flashaholic (no pun intended:laugh so it's a win-win.
Whenever PureNexus drops, I'll definitely making the switch over, and I may play around with DU if I get some spare time to do so; seems like everyone is really loving that ROM as well
Sorry for the long post/unnecessary backstory of the devices I own, just thought I may as well include that bit in

I'm using AICP 12.1 (by optx) which is based on LOS14.1.
It's from January I believe but I have used it for a daily since then with next to no issues.
Sorry I don't have the link right now but I will edit this post as soon as I find it.
I find it best to not use Google Play Services and use "Yalp Store" which you can find on F-Droid site.
However some apps may need GPlay Services due to dependencies. (Just flash OpenGapps, make sure you flash with the rom and not after it's been booted without them installed)
(Snapchat requires GPlay Services to be installed before it even opens)
But yeah, it's very very smooth just battery life is not the best... I can still get a full days use if I don't sit on it all the time. (Tested a "new, genuine" battery which has same results...)
No issues with BT, WiFi, NFC or RIL.
All sensors working as supposed to incl. Fingerprint scanner. (Haven't tested heart beat sensor)
Only reason I have to link this is because the nightlies for Nougat have been removed from AICP's servers
Camera works great, haven't had one force close yet...

Thank you for the answer, good to know, because in the A510F I was sick of Samsung Experience but thanks to Exynos LineageOS was just awful, now in S5 I can install it and I'm curious. PD: The infrared works? I use it a lot (I'm a bit laxy hahaha) so it's an important feature for my daily use.

I'm using it right now, the phone is fast as hell. It's true that the battery is a bit worse, but is better than Touchwiz MM xD.

Yuppppp.
If you look in the quick tiles pulldown (statusbar) you should find a performance mode option. I use that to save battery when I don't need it to be zippy fast. (You may have to edit tiles) also go into AICP extras and look for scrolling cache and force disable it.
Is there any ROM with battery better than TouchWiz Stock ROM? I need battery more than anything. Haha

Don't know, I'm a bit amateur in this device. But probably not, maybe one Touchwiz based ultralight can help you.

I'm sorry to ask again, but I have a last question he he. I installed LOS14.1 and I have some Wi-Fi and Mobile data problems (like it power off and restart the signal or the WiFi is quite slow...) Do you have those problems in that ROM you shared in this thread? (If not I will install it, I'm a bit sick of the dam WiFi). Thanks in advance.
Oh... this is sad, because I tested LineageOS and the battery life was very poor...

Hi mate, no I don't...
I use LTE 90% of the time which doesn't help me answer this question much but I usually only have problems with Wi-Fi when the signal is low.
Have you upgraded the device to the latest stock firmware before flashing TWRP / new rom?
I noticed the Modem is read-only so flashing a rom won't change it.
Not sure what to say to be honest.
Have you got an aftermarket back cover? non-genuine or made of metal perhaps?

Are you referring to LOS15.1? Because battery isn't too bad on Nougat builds. Not the best but is usable.

Yes LOS14.1/15.1 are terrible for battery.
I understand other ROMs are built from LOSbut I've had better luck using AICP 12.1 (Nougat 7.1.2)
If you can't find a recent build let me know and I'll link one to you.

Like or dislike Android Pie

How's people liking Android Pie?
I installed on my stock OG Pixel XL and I think it actually runs faster, or seems to. I turned off the swipe gesture for the home key at first to get used to the rest if the changes. I just turned it back on and I am getting used to that now. All in all I am happy.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
OG PIXEL XL, here and one day in, I'm digging it. Hoping for root, Substratum, Dolby Atmos & Gravity Box
Root is already working, just flash magisk 16.7 beta.
I'm rooted and using elemental kernel, so far so good.
The OS itself feels a lot different than N or O, especially when using the pixel launcher.

Roots already available.
Substratum will never happen as they changed overlays. Say good bye to it.
The others I never used.
I personally love android 9. The new gestures are cool. Its speedy, battery life is real good.

You're right, about root. I guess I was thinking outside the Pixel realm. It's my backup phone. I could probably live without all the others, but Dolby Atmos. The rest are aesthetics, but I love me some car audio jamming.
I don't, his however love the Pixel and my Moto Z2 Play, probably won't get Pie.

I'm so hooked on Nova, IDK if I could even try Pixel Launcher.
Built AOSP last night is so much faster than the official build Pie is definitely going to be a nice experience
I have a weird issue where the battery icon stays lit up when charging while off. It them doesn't turn off when the phone is unplugged?
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Overall, it is fine. Pretty snappy especially considering I updated with the -w removed instead of doing a complete install. I haven't messed much with the new look and feel features since stock O was just fine to me. One bug is that when I click on/dismiss a notification the icon stays there sometimes until I swipe down on the curtain again. The new volume quick access that includes buzz and mute is nice though I don't like that just turning down volume from the main screen now controls media instead of ringer. The only thing I don't care for is the new window animation (app window bouncing open for lack of a better explanation). Seems like a waste of resources with no functional benefit. 2 apps that caused messages that they were designed for an older version of Android, but both worked fine and the message no longer pops up after hitting the OK button the first time you see it. All in all, P was a well though out and largely bug-free update. Clearly, it was extremely stable and ready for a general release that was earlier than any of us where expecting. I haven't seen anyone talking about reverting to O. That is always a good sign.

I stand corrected. I tried it on 8/6 using the regular Substratum app. Updated to Magisk 16.7 beta (not sure if that's important), downloaded Substratum beta v999, and it works. Thanks for proving me wrong y'all! My scorched retinas are forever in your debt.

I have a test build with it but I have not had time to flash it yet. I'll get to it tonight
It's pretty snappy. I'm digging all the little nuances, like the volume popup and the in call bubble that shows on top of other apps.
While using the phone, the clock in the upper left, catches my eye and I think it's a notification.
The nav pill is ok. I have a little trouble switching to previous app.
I signed up for the DIGITAL WELL BEING app. I don't know if it will be very useful, to me, but time will tell.
I do appreciate being able to darken the quick settings tray, but don't understand why notifications are left with white backgrounds.
I don't like having to pull down, twice, to get to settings.
ETA, I found another thing I like, the select text, expanding window and the copy / paste experience.

Black Bar in themes app.
I don't think this ROM gets as bright as the stock rom.
Some stutters in home screen but It's Miui stuff as It happened in Oreo too.1
Some stutters when locking/unlocking the phone.
Some stutters at the brightness slider at the end..
Very Minor but I notice these things.
The port is really good but MIUI isn't good xd anyway back to Stock..
The ROM is really good. But somehow the hotspot is not listed in WiFi and couldn't connect. Any solution pls ??
pls fix On Screen Nav Bars :crying:

For on-screen nav bar open the build.prop in root explorer, at the end of build.prop change the value from 1 to 0 of the line "qemu.hw.main.key=1"

hi @rashidmalyk. There is a noticeable battery drain, though I couldn't find out what's causing it. I have had 2 battery cycles already, my phone lasted for about less than half than the usual. Other than that, ROM is awesome!
