Hy everyone,
I'm a little desperate now. my i9500 is stuck at Samsung logo even the animation sound that not complete, i had mokee rom 4.4.2, made a restore from a previous nandroid backup, barebone prism rom V3.0 worked perfectly, installed nandroid manager and restored some access point passwords, worked perfectly so far, my phone reached 1% in battery then turned off after a while. when i wanted to reboot it, the phone freezes in Samsung logo.
Recovery: Philz touch recovery
I tried everything that i know about,
1° reboot in revocery and restore from a previous nandroid backup (NOT GOOD)
2° reboot in recovery, perform a full wipe, restore from a working previous backup (NOT GOOD)
3° reboot in recovery perform a wipe reset (NOT GOOD)
4° restore via odin in download mode last stock firmware for my phone I9500XXUEMJ8 (NOT GOOD)
5° i tried mounting all partitions for check and .... Eroor mounting /efs!
i checked efs folder with aroma file manager ... 0 files inside :crying:
i had a previous backup for EFS found in kies in .tar.gz format
i tried to restore it with several methods
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392632
guess what ?? NOT GOOOD
i tried manually to copy files in EFS folder and changed the permission for EACH file with the same permission from the backup in my laptop then i reboot in recovery, the files still inside but when i reboot the system, the files are gone
i've read somewhere that there is two type of efs , and the efs made by some old stock rom won't work for a new one (Personally i don't know but like i said i'm desperate) so i downloaded from sammobile the FIRST rom that was in my phone and put it via odin (Re partition was never checked) then i tried the methods above ... :crying::crying::crying:
because i only have .tar.gz i tried restore it and witout rebooting the phone ===> (EFS Folder not empty YET) made a backup in .img format so that i can restore in /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 still not good
so i REALLY need your help and plz do not ask me to go to service center, warranty binary status is 1
Thanks everyone and have a good day

you need to flash a efs partition via odin. in tar format.
the your phone will boot normally. unistall knox and only then you could put your efs backup to the phone.

,,,You have to backup EFS once (via non-buggy twrp) and keep it stored on mobile and PC
... For ROMs..You just BACKUP system data boot
And restore them
... when shifting () different builds marshmallow to nougat... nougat 7.0 to 7.1 or whatever.. you need to INSTALL (not backup or restore) the CORRESPONDING vendor
That's it
Hey guys and gals!
After a few weeks of using the phone, I now feel comfortable doing a Nandroid Backup (TWRP).
I used to do it all the time on my OPO Kitkat, but now with Android Marshmallow, it's quite different.
Here is my situation:
A2017U (us version)
TWRP 3.0.2.2 Installed
Bootloaded Unlocked
Rooted
Xposed Framework v87 installed
Update B29 installed
Inside TWRP>Backup I have many options:
1- Boot (64MB)
2- Cache (2MB)
3- Data(6969MB)
4- Recovery (64MB)
5- System (3723MB)
6- System Image (6144MB)
7- EFS (4MB)
By default, the "Boot", "Data" and "System" are selected, but after some reading I could also backup "System Image" for a near-perfect restore.
Also, some said to backup the EFS in-case it gets corrupted/damage, but some say it can brick your device.
Could anyone tell me what should I backup in case I get stuck somewhere in the future.
Thank you !!
P.S: I have removed any fingerprints and set the lock screen to "Swipe" (no pattern).
First, make sure to flash the official twrp. Do not keep the one we use to unlock bootloader.
There is no harm in backing up efs, in fact it is a good idea to do so. Just do not select it during a restore unless something has wiped your current efs and its the only way to fix.
I don't see a need to back up a full system image but couldn't hurt to at least have one for safe keeping.

This? :
https://twrp.me/devices/zteaxon7.html
https://dl.twrp.me/ailsa_ii/
Edit: Looks like there's twrp-3.0.3-0-ailsa_ii Out for the Axon 7
But the official XDA Forum Page it's twrp-3.0.2-0-a2017u
After flashing the 3.0.2-0-a2017u, I now have in the backup sections: Modem (NON-HLOS) (95MB), I don't know if I should back it up.

If your phone is rooted then you should have twrp installed
and if you have twrp installed it has an options of what it
can backup when you select "backup" or "restore" and
there you will see an option to only backup efs or backup
other things in the phone like system, data, cache & dalvik.
Select EFS and nothing else if that's all you want to backup.
Good luck, have a great day!
Thanks alot dear.. I already did that in twrp. Is that the only thing which I need related to efs ? Is twrp efs backup is reliable ?
Yep.
But move a copy of the backup to your pc just in case you have any future problems.
Hi folks
How to take a backup of the efs partition ? I am not seeing it in twrp partitions list for backup. Any help is highly appreciated.
If you are looking for a quick solution, you can try the app(s) available in play store. Requires root and I believe you are rooted.
Nandroid backup through TWRP will save EFS with other partitions. Or you can try terminal commands through TWRP for backing up the modem files. Don't ask me for commands, I will probably mess up the code !
