Hi.
I have to soft reset my HD2 all the time because it often lags too much.
I will now list the things which makes me wanna reset my device:
- The HD2 lags so badly, that most actions take up to 5 seconds.
- One application can crash (mostly HTC_Messaging), and I have to soft reset.
- When I write messages, the keyboard has a input lag of 5-10 seconds.
- Screen wont turn on when I push the buttons
- The device wont unlock when I slide the slider, it just stops up.
Now this happens each time I upgrade my ROM, and I am currently using Artemis now.
The programs I've installed each time is:
- FingerKeyboard
- Touch X reset and wifi
- Touch X button icon in messaging
and now I use WMLongLife also.
My SD-card is an 8GB card.
So if someone could help me, I would be happy.
(Sorry for bad english.)

Start again. Install nothing and just configure settings.
Does it run slow and crash then?
If so you have problem that could be harware.
Try another ROM and if the same then I think you need to return the unit.
If all runs fine on a clean, vanilla phone then you are doing something in the install process that is causing the instability.
Try installs one by one to the phone mem and check operation each time.
NB. Some background info would have been helpful. ROM version, Model etc!

The problem is that I can't predict when its gonna happen. It can happen randomly, and then I have to restart the phone. After the restart, everything works normal and perfect.
This can happen upto three times a day, some days it wont happen at all.
Currently using 2.10.531.7 Artemis, but this also happens with the stock ROM. The newest one that is. My radio version is 2.06.51.07
Its kinda difficult to run things vanilla phone, cause the applications I use, I need.
for me htc messaging has never crashed...
i suggest you to flash a stock rom, 1.66 for example and try it without the sent button.
if there are still problems, u can try using mtty or send it back for repair...
edit: i had the problem where the phone was freezing while loading for a long time (over night), and the display won´t turn on. Switched back to manually update Facebook, Twitter and Weather, and had no more problems since...

Well I think its crashing.
That's what I usually use when I lock the screen. So sometimes when I try to unlock it, I just get half of the messaging program or nothing, on screen. And I cant do anything.
When I try to click the Home-button, it respons in some seconds and Home-screen is all laggy.

When you lock the phone apps still run in the back ground as if asleep and when you unlock they attempt to restore themselves as they were before the lock.
You have something clashing installed and that is calling the registry at the same time as something else. Remember when windows full size used to do it?.
I think you have a badly written piece of software installed (either preloaded or installed by yourself) and suggesting starting from vanilla is a way to issolate it!
i've also had similar problems as you. after hard reseting a couple of times, i noticed that the intermittent lag began after i started syncing my phone to my PC and myphone. it turns out that my terrible management of appointments, messages and contacts was the root of my problem (several duplicates of everything, and almost 5000 text messages). i suggest you attempt to work your phone a couple days without loading up any PIM information, archive messages and remove duplicates (sktools is excellent at doing this)
i suggest you do something similar, it really helps. i was able to get my device to prrform as well as when i still had the vanilla ROM
best of luck! your device is better than you think!
Also, use the Task Manager, and close applications that you don't use, especially the Internet browser and applications that use data connection. These ones can really block the phone when connection is intermittent.
Yet again, I'm left dumbfounded by claims of "serious" issues with this device. I just don't understand how almost everyone has a "story" regarding the HTC HD2 being SLOW or LAGGY. Fortunately for me, I haven't soft reset my unit in 46h 5m 19s and everything is still running flawlessly.
your phone sounds faulty or something. for me.. even with the Stock 1.66 ROM i had, it was working pretty fast n smooth. now with Dutty's ROM, its faster n smoother than ever. i love this beast
I never have these problem! I used Official or Clean EX HQ roms and never got these problem!
Try a Task 29 and flash with 1.66 Official or Most popular Cook ROM
Pa49: I have only installed the programs which I have listed in the first post. I guess im not the only one using them.
Kev007: I usually have a lot of textmessages when I dont delet them, but thats max 2000. I dont sync my phone with my computer, so no uneccessary contacts or something either. Dont even use calendar, so have no appointments.
Reignzone: It is really bad. It can happen upto three times a day, and I just cant use the phone at all. Just sliding the home-screen to see all my shortcuts takes maybe 10 seconds. I could film it with a camcorder next time it happens so people could see.
The same thing happens each time I've installed a ROM. So it has clearly something to do with the phone and not with the software I've installed.

I get lags too when twitter is updating in the background. You would think a 1ghz processor could do two things at once
Backup your miscrosd. Try a microsd format. Restore your data. See if this helps.
T-Mo US HD2, still completely stock. I was having some issues with sluggish animations, applied many of the tweaks in the sticky threads here, things got better. However, it was super super slow to switch into some applications (SMS *always*, others occasionally).
Eventually I wondered about that fancy Swype keyboard and tried switching back to the full qwerty. All that disappeared and it moves like lightning now, I have to say.
I haven't played with updating Swype or maybe at least loading a ROM without it that I can do a regular install on top of. However, right now I don't miss it .
Lag issues
I have no idea what is causing your issues, but if it travels from one rom to the next, it may be your sd card.
I had an issue with lag in swype and other apps.
I noticed when I popped out the sd card the device instantly unfroze.
I then copied all files except App data and reformatted the sd.
No issues after that.
Hope this helps.
Sometimes I just hate my phone. I have an AT&T HTC Pure. I haven't done any modifications to the ROM or anything, just installing a few apps. Today my phone turned itself off due to low battery, so I put it on the charger for a couple hours. When I needed it again I turned it on and the HTC TouchFLO 3D loaded, showing my background and the big ugly clock along with my appointments. I noticed after a few minutes the time was off by... a few minutes. The screen had completely frozen. I couldn't use the slider at all. There goes my People, Music, Calendar, Weather, and Programs tabs I use all the time. I soft reset and it comes back, looking normal. I go to use the slider and it freezes in mid-motion... never to move again. I press the Start button and my Start menu comes up. I close the Start menu and I can still see it, although it doesn't respond and the X is gone from the upper right-hand corner. I tap the Notifications bar and my notifications show up. I click close and it's still up, just not responding to taps (frozen is my guess). I've reset it a multitude of ways now all with the same result... even taking out the battery.
I don't get this. It was working fine just a short while ago. I've reset the thing before and not had this problem. I haven't installed any apps since the last time I had to turn it off due to low battery, and it came up fine from that. What could be causing this?
The real thing is this has happened before. It's like if it ever has to reload the TouchFLO interface it just bombs 1 out of 20 times. Hell I was playing around with Android for the thing, which resets the phone when you want to go back into Windows, and not had this problem the whole time I was testing it. If my phone shuts down, roll the dice and I might get lucky enough for it to come back without this problem.
I resolved it before by doing a hard reset. Lost all my stuff. That sucks for what seems no good reason at all. It's not like I was modifying system files or screwing with registry settings. It isn't even a custom ROM.
Any insight on what could be causing this, and how to get it back to normal?
I'm regretting not buying an Android phone every day anyway, but thanks to 2yr service agreements and lack of sufficient disposable income to dump AT&T I'm stuck with this thing for a while.
Thanks in advance for any help and understanding!
Your issue is that you are on the stock ROM.
That's why XDA exists, because stock ROMs are full of bloatware, eating up memory, and lacking any performance tweaks.
Cooked ROMs are not a cause of issues but a solution.
I hated my phone out of the box, but now it rocks...
With that, if you are going to stay stock, I suggest you get a backup program and hard reset.
At this point I'm very interested in custom ROMs, yet I know little about them. Looks like its time to get on it and read up what I can.

Start with the Hard SPL thread. A link is located in the 2nd sticky.
This is the precursor to flashing a custom ROM.
Once successful, you can cruise the ROM forum for the ROM of your liking.
It's things like this that make me so glad I found this site
You can try installing "CleanRAM" and running it after every initial boot to clear excess memory. You can also configure CleanRAM to schedule your memory cleaning. I recommend you to use "Level 2" cleaning though.

Unfortunately CleanRAM does absolutely nothing. When TouchFLO 3D re-loads it lasts almost literally 2 seconds before freezing at whatever I'm doing. I've even used the customized process cleaner to stop as many processes as I could (or just manila.exe) and it still will freeze when the interface comes up.
I've been able to get it to the standard Windows Default look and it works now, so that will enable me to back up what I'm going to. If I'm going to have to do a hard reset anyway, might as well put something better on there.
Maybe this might help
i experianced the same problem and the cause was i sync my entire e-mail acc. on the pure and it ran ok untill i restarted it and it boom hanged.
So i cleaned up the entire messaging folder under \Windows\
At restarted it and it was fine
So i suggest dont sync up entire e-mail in any form i.e headers only etc.
If this helps do P.M me
I installed a custom rom from dutty, and now it completely dies while in standby, have to remove the battery to boot it up again. Looks like I traded one critical problem for another.

Did you hard reset after flashing?
Also, which version of Dutty's did you install?
i900m - Bell Mobility running j4k 2.2. The phone has been ok till day 6 after upgrade to 2.2. I was using the phone, and it just randomly vibrated...though I hit something by accident, then 10 mins later...again.
Then i was using google maps, and it vibrates once, then 5 seconds later it vibrates 3 times quickly, and force closes google maps. I have been reading about force closes as being a sign of the 'end'...is there ANYTHING i can do to extend the life a little in case samsung comes out with a quick fix sometime soon? Please help...i'm paranoid now all the time
You can also try a factory reset/clear all caches and more (through recovery menu) and perhaps even flashing a new rom.
I've had problems with force closes after flashing roms as well at times, but these steps helped often (just be sure to backup apps and data because these steps will delete/remove them)
a forc close means problems?? i just bought like 1 week ago and have force closes everyday from launchers games and such.. does it mean my phone is defective?
Probably just a phone software corruption, perform a factor data reset then reflash with partition.. should clean/fix everything.
Clear the phone completly (full factory reset)
In dialer type *2767*3855#
If problems still persist, you will need to flash a new rom.

thats exactly what i'm afraid of: a factory reset.
From what i've been reading about the Bell internal sd issues is that a lot of people experienced the dead internal sd when they rebooted their phones (caught in endless loop)...i'm afraid of ever turning the thing off now!
If you don't turn it off it will eventually freeze.
Your screwed either way,
at least if you turn it off now you may have a chance of saving it.
Just backup all your apps, data and settings. I use Titanium Backup.

i've been experiencing a couple of vibrate and FC's lately, really mean its dying? or just a couple of FC's means the app crashed
Not entirely on topic but:
From my own experience, force closes really don't mean anything. In my mind, a FC is like a good old win 98 program crash, it just happens from time to time. I wouldn't read anything into it unless it starts happening on a regular basis to decent apps.
(And even then, spotify for ex. is notorious for FC-ing. It's annoying, but not something thats fixable)
programs that may help
I have a galaxy s2 too so far noprobs as i havent done much with it just rooted stock rom and making my mind with what rom to try but if you go in market and search for as previous reply titanium backup, superuser, rom manager and the best app for deleting apps root explorer. One of these programms come wit a fix permissions option may help.
Problem 1:
I've just rooted my nexus-s and I'm not sure whether it's due to rooting or a software conflict with apps installed on the device that's not compatible with android 2.3, but I'm experiencing quite a frequent phone reboot while I am in the middle of an active call.
Is there a way to capture the log of the phone's function and see what's causing the reboot?
Are anyone experiencing this problem as well?
Problem 2:
I probably have only used 240 Mb of the USB storage, and it shows that I have 13Gb free. However, when I put the check boxes beside the applications that can be moved to the USB storage (i.e. native apps2sd), I seem to have surpassed the limit allowed for moving the app for USB storage. I've got 21 apps that can be moved, but it won't allow me to move the 21st app. Error message says "[! Move Application] Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left." I've tried checking and unchecking boxes of different applications, and it has nothing to do with the 20 apps limit, but rather it's the amount of memory being moved to the USB storage

Well I have 23 apps on my USB storage, and I have the Voodoo Root kernel as well. It shows 2.1gb used, 11gb free.
I did notice a 'soft reboot' earlier today but it wasn't during a call, don't know what caused it but yeah. Honestly if I were you and the problem persists just reformat and start over.
Im having the same phone reboot problem as you during phone calls. I thought it was due to an app called Screebl being incompatible, but i just made a test call and it rebooted after about 18 minutes. Im going through my apps to see what else effects the phone state during phone call.
Ive heard of some people having problems with google maps causing problems during phone calls, or sprint nav (but we dont have sprint nav) So im going to try shutting down maps, and uninstalling my task killer, which i also heard can cause problems.
Have you been able to figure anything out? I really dont want to have to reset my phone and lose all my save data information from my games. My phone is not rooted, and i dont plan on rooting yet, so i cant use titanium backup for my data.
Phone only Reboots during active phone call, i can play games or surf the web on it all day long with no reboots.
So software issue in android 2.3, or some kind of app incompatibility im thinking
you can capture the log with adb logcat command, or download a logcat app from the Market http://www.appbrain.com/search?q=logcat
Why are you bothering with apps2sd? The Nexus S shares the Galaxy S line's hugh, I mean HUGE, 1GB of "disk" space for apps. I've got almost 100 apps on my phone and not a hint of low space. See the screen capture I've attached: 284mb used for apps, 724mb still free!
oh crap! please let it not be the same problem as in the SGS i9000m
that's one of the sign before the internal SD goes belly up

Didn't they switch the type of flash memory used from earlier Galaxy S phones? I saw some discussion about it not being movinand any longer, or at least some sort of physical difference between what the NS has vs the SGS line.

Haha this may be the case, but I've inherited the habit of obsessively moving apps to sd/usb from using my Nexus One. Combined, I am using about 450MB of space for my apps at the moment. But this is a huge improvement from the Nexus One.

Oh yes, I was the same on my N1 and even EVO 4G, but once I got a Galaxy S, never even considered it.
I'll wager the nand used for the "rom" space is faster than the nand for the "sdcard", another thing to consider. You're not even half-way used up with that 450...

I haven't rooted my Nexus S,but i've experience the same soft reboot during call.
I have the "End call using power button" option enabled. Im not sure if i was leaning on the button when it happened, but stock doesn't have a reboot option, so its unlikely. I suspect its a OS bug, rather than a rooting issue.
Let me know if you make any progress, i've since made calls with no problems.

You know, I thought there were software incompatibilities too at the first place. I did not use "End call using power button". But after running the same stock rom with rooting and apps for a week, I didn't see the soft reset during the phone call. I have just installed a new rom on my nexus s, the R2 version of MoDaCo Custom ROM for the Samsung Nexus S. Running great so far. No soft resets.
** Edit **
Actually, after posting this post yesterday, I did experience another soft reset whilst talking on my phone. I have the same apps that I have been running in the background, mainly: google pinyin, paypal, k-9 mail, ebay, rhapsody, google voice, bluetooth share, and swype. I am not experience the soft reset in all calls, after I have installed the R2 version of MoDaCo Custom Rom. I will post any problems again if I do see this happening again.
I did a factory reboot/restore and that seemed to take care of the soft reset during call problem.
Have made several calls without issue
Its doing it again, this phone is going back. The screen coating is already wearing off as well. Hopefully number 2 will be better.
I have yet to get one android phone that hasnt had to be exchanged once. Android phones really need to have better QC before leaving the factory.
Droid 1: 3 times (keyboard, GPS problems)
Evo: 4 times (terrible screens)
epic: 1 time (Keyboard)
Nexus: 1 time (so far) Screen Coating, Constant Reboots
Phone reboots itself during an active call.
I have been experiencing this problem and it seems to escalate in frequency. I got this Nexus S on day one when it came out. However, I have not experienced soft reboot issue until last week, after the OTA update. Since then, it keeps doing it more and more and now it's like almost every active call I make. First, I thought it's software conflict. Now, having read this whole thread, I think it's an OS issue.
I also sometimes encounter with completely losing signal. The phone can not register to any network, and I have to reboot.
One more issue is the voice search apk sometimes activates itself when I shake or move the phone.
My phone is stock, and I do not have any issue with USB storage.
I like the phone for its speed, and the contour screen. It handles most tasks very quickly, even it's still a stock phone, unrooted.
I still have it until Jan 14 to decide whether I will keep it or not. Hopefully, there are some ways to fix these issues.
Mine is restarting during calls and also when not in use. It restarted 3 times during calls within 10 days, and I witnessed it restarting by itself at least once when the phone was locked and not in use.
I have an unrooted Nexus S, which I started using yesterday. The OTA came almost immediately after setting up, so I installed that. It appeared to be working flawlessly until this evening when I made the first call on it. It rebooted a few minutes into the call. After redialing it did it again, the third call I ended without problem, but was shorter than the previous two. A few mins later I made some test calls and it rebooted during both of them.
I did a factory reset and wipe of USB storage - I didn't bother adding my Google account and just made a test call which lasted 13 mins before I hung up.
I'll have to make some more calls tomorrow and if they work, I'll try adding my Google account and restoring stuff.
I had this same thing happen to me quite a few times reboot during a call or locking up after a call. I work to a company and we purchased three phones. So I switched with another one and guess what? Same problem definitely looking like a software problem.
This just happened to me for the 1st time a little bit ago. About 35 mins into the call/conversation, phone rebooted itself. Non-rooted here, I hope it's a software issue, that can be corrected within the next OTA update.
Are the spontaneously rebooting phones possibly overheating? Do they feel warmer to the touch than normal when it happens?

While I cannot speak for anyone else having this issue, in my case - no. The phone didn't get warmer, or seem to overheat. Odd issue to say the least.
Stock ROM (2.3.1) here as well. Just had it reboot 10 minutes into a call, then one minute into the following call to apologise for the first dropped call!
Hi guys,
Has anyone noticed heavy lag and freezing when using the phone. I don't have a lot of apps installed and i have disabled most apps that i don't use and the phone is still giving me issues.
Any advice is appreciated. [emoji4]
I switched from RAZR MAXX HD and this phone is a space rocket in comparison to my old Droid. Have you tried factory restore? Then if it lags - I would try to return it to Moto.
Check CPU utilization. Maybe some app hangs on. I've noticed that noozy (music player) lags like hell when album is over and player remains in notification bar.

I have the same problem, I tried to removing as much as possible automatic start calling but often when I uncheck the receiver this puts me "failed" in Rom Toolbox, I have tried Xposed Auto Boot module, but I do not feel that it works.
But for me, I have a lot of app instaled and my UI is very modified (Nova Launcher, Gravity Box, various Widget), so I know why he lag, but I still find it overheating lot and that's what most do slow.
Hi, I am having same issue. My configs was same as you, @Trinytix, but I had uninstalled all of them because lag issues. And now I continue to have same lag issues. When I use the standard cam for five minutes it become freezy and lag and sometimes I lose some photos. All the time it is burning. Just stops to burn when I leave it without work about 30 minutes. I think the problem is the snapdragon 810 but in other foruns some say that the problems with this processor was fixed.
I've been having similar issues, I got really into theming (using nova prime) the last couple of months and at the end of January the phone started to really lag hard. A couple weeks ago I stopped being able to open any apps other than the phone and google's messenger. I tried to factory reset from settings and could not (device gets stuck un the power down sequence), so I went the recovery mode route. reinstalled a fraction of my apps, put back a much stripped down version of my theme, and things were mostly ok, if a little laggy. However, the phone insisted that there was no SD card (internal or external) despite there being a 64GB card, which would sometimes show up when viewed in settings, some apps (podcast addict) were able to access the internal memory, but others couldn't (cameras, sms, photos, music). Yesterday the keyboard ceased to launch for more than a split second at a time, and would not take any input (you would not believe how infuriating this is unless you've experienced it first hand). In an attempt to regain some functionality I started uninstalling everything that I don't consider vitally important (bus app, podcasts, messenger) couldn't get through more than 1 or 2 at a time because multiple windows would stack telling me processes like "motorola" "android" and "media" had stopped. I did succeed in stripping away all the automation apps and theming apps (tasker, nova, icon packs, etc). I can't even place a phone call on the first try.
Oh and to add insult to injury I have to darned green lines about 0.5cm wide now.
Looks like hw problem or system got corrupted. Try to re-flash whole system but if is hw...
