storage/emulated need to make rrw but cant. I have root. - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on android 7 and have an issue with the emulated folder. by default it is not readable or writable. the problem that i am facing is that when I am in an app and going back threw folders to access a removable flash drive, I cant get out of the emulated folder and into the parent folder (storage).
In a file explorer if i view /storage/emulated permissions, it is not readable or writable by anything other than root. If i try to change permissions, I get an error access denied.
I havent tried it through shell yet. What would that look like?
anyways, anyone got a fix for this? I want to make the folder rrw or fully rw

Hmmm what apps are you using. Name your file explorer and it's version.
What did you use to root, what package from what source?.
Personally i flashed supersu from supersu.com/download which is systemless root.
Some apps and file explorers may not be compatible with systemless root.
For example i use es file explorer v3.2.5.5 and i had to copy paste the content of /su/bin to /system/xbin in order to recognize root and enable rw permissions.

I will look into that. I think I have system root though and using esfileexplorer pro.
Emulator apps are my issue though. I try to navigate to my flash drive to set up sons and save. Storage is fine but storage/emulated though is tricky.. Some apps will just recognize that it don't have access but still let it up folder to /storage/ where I can then select flash drive...
Other apps will get hung on the emulated folder.. Not letting me folder up further.
Its a pain.. And to solve, I would just like full access to emulated

Thing is that you need to get a popup to grant permissions to the root of the extrrnal storage you want to use, then a windows will open where you can select your device and then hit select button.
You're not getting that.
So i suggest to change to systemless root which is proven to work and test by yourself.
I do not have AndroidTV installed but full Android Nougat yet that basic feature if i remember correctly is available even without rooting because i backup my stuff to my external USB flash drive before flashing custom firmware and i never rooted while in AndroidTV.
Now, i use Hyperspin with Retroarch and all my hyperspin folder with system, roms, etc is in my external USB 3.0 flash drive and works great no issues with those apps recognizing the external storage. Same goes for writing to my microsd with other apps

Location of apps after app2sd?

With root explorer, i see that my apps are saved to something like '/system/sd/app,' but when I mount my G1, I can't find that folder. I can't even find the "system" folder. Anyone have any ideas?
Also, I pressed the "R/W" button on that folder in Root Explorer, but now I can't switch it back to R/O. It gives me an error saying, "Remount Failed: Device or resource busy."
what is it you want to do with the apps?
My gmail app is force closing, and I haven't found a way to reinstall it through market. I was going to try to replace the .apk.
I don't believe the gmail app is on the SD, it should be under /system/app/Gmail.apk
For the most part, the system apps install on the phone, the rest are on SD.
That still leads me to my first question, lol. I can't find the "system" folder after mounting my G1.
??
I don't know. I use the rooted file browser SUFBS and have never had a problem seeing the system folder.
Might have been associated with other changes you made to the system.
For me, if all else fails, I re-partition, wipe & re-flash.
Hopefully someone else can offer some better info.
I find it fine on my G1 via Root Explorer. It's just that I can't seem to locate it on my computer (i.e something like h:\system\app), after plugging my G1 in.
Sorry for any confusion.
You must be on a windows machine. You can not nativly see an ext partition under windows.
Look at the guides that tell you how to set up adb and adb push the application to the folder you want.

You can do these things right from recovery console, and probably terminal, I like recovery better though. place the file you want to use on the root of the SDcard. Since it is the Gmail.apk you want to replace you would go about it like this:
mount system
mount sdcard
cp /sdcard/Gmail.apk /system/app/Gmail.apk
reboot
thats pretty much it.

[Q] Inconsistancies accessing Device Storage from windows

I've just noticed this today and wondered if anyone else has see this?
There seems to be an inconsistancy between the tablet and the view of the Device Storage when connected to windows via micro usb port.
For instance. I connect the tablet to windows with micro usb cable and I view files under "Device Storage" which is the contents of the internal sdcard from /mnt/sdcard.
I also start up an adb shell and cd to the /mnt/sdcard directory. As expected, both show the same files. And if I create a file or folder in the windows exporer view, the file or folder shows up in the adb shell view as well.. great..
However, If I create a file or folder using the adb shell, it does not get reflected to the windows explorer view (until the tablet is rebooted). Likewise, if I create file in the explorer view and then delete it in adb shell, it stays around in the explorer view. Also, if I delete a file in the explorer view, it stays around in the adb shell view.
Anyone know what's going on here and why it doesn't stay in sync? Is the windows explorer view using some kind of cache view?
Thanks

I have had 100% of the same thing happen on my A500. I often find that my files are in the wrong location and I still cannot get the external SD to read from the computer.
I have another problem concerning these issues maybe you could help with. I may have either flashed an update without the proper files to go before it; or I have have forgotton to wipe something. Nonetheless, my A500 wouldn't boot. When I did some research, I went to this site {http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=2127076#post2127076} because it seemed in my eyes to have pertinent information. I got the update.zip to install and my A500 booted again! However, I could not get to stop two because my insternal SD card was wiped somehow and when I get to the main screen, do the circular unlock, the launcer, and many other programs repeatedly force close, so much so that I cannot do ANYTHING. How would you approach this, and is there a way for me to get into CWM. I have a recent nandroid backup that what 100% functional, and I would hope the MD5 sums would still match....
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!
ibrooks.. try the instruction in post#1 of thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132760
That will wipe the data, which I believe is causing all your force closes.
Once that is done, then you can root with gingerbreak.
After that, you can continue the instructions from that thread you referenced. But instead, I would suggest flashing the official 3.1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159443
Edit: The official 3.1 is not pre-rooted, you'll need to do the 3.1 root app if you want root access back.

Thanks.. I guess I was thinking about the leaked version that was released with pre-root. i've updated my post.
I've had that problem happen when I was trying to downgrade from the leaked 3.1. I was getting frustrating trying to flash different ROMs and the about kept showing the same version over and over again. Finally I realised that the files were just being copied to the device storage instead of the SD card. Taking the card out and copying the files directly did the trick.

Great! Nice to know that I'm not cRaZy! I was having quite a time last night trying to copy files back and forth from the tablet, only to have them not show up where I knew they were in Windows explorer when connected via usb,.

[how-to]Fix android market if it isn't working

Hi,
If your like me and you have had some problems with android market on your Kindle Fire (yes,I got one for christmas and its already rooted ) by following a guide with Vending.apk and though you can browse the market, it is stuck on Starting Download, I have found a solution to the problem... All you need to do is get a new file:bit.ly/tlWjSn
This file is simply an updated version to the Vendor.apk other tutorials provide.
All you do is the following(presuming you have rooted, got root explorer and GO launcher):
1.Copy the file to kindle at an easy to access location.
2.Long-Hold the file and tap move.
3.Navigate to / then system then app.
4.Set it to R/W mount (top left)
5.Paste the file.
6.Set the permissions like all other files(tick first 2 in first row, first 1 in second row and first 1 in third row then tap ok)
7.Reboot the device
8.Go onto GO launcher and add it to the screen (tap the list thing bottom middle of the screen, then tap Add. then select Application followed by Market)
9.Done! Enjoy!
Not sure if I should start a new thread or not.
I'm rooted and have SU. I have confirmed this by running Titainium Backup.
Market stopped working after the latest Kindle update. After I re-rooted, I tried re-installing vender.apk, but it still crashes upon launching it. Also, I am running Go Launcher EX.
When I browse folders while connected to a computer (using Win7), the system folder is hidden.
I never installed Root Explorer on the Fire. Is there a way for me to download and install it directly, or will I need to side load it? I assume if it's in the Market I'll need to side load.

Unfortunately you will as far as I know, but for $3.99, it is VERY useful when rooting or installing app's. market.android.com/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en
Check it out. If you run into anymore problems feel free to PM me as it's easier
Hello guys, I have a little question related to market app that maybe has been already answered so I won't start a new thread.
I have my KF with 6.2.1 rooted and with the full android market installed (EX launcher and so on).
Usually the market works fine, but I always get errors ( process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly) and consequent force closes even if I can download stuff and apps. Basically, it happens whenever the market takes an action.
Is it a known issue or ir it "normal" ?
Thank you all in advance.
For me, I am having problems copying the Vending.apk to /system/app folder. I follow the steps in that tutorial but when I paste the.apk in the folder nothing happens. Help??
Got it rooted last night, and I'm using file expert since my cheap ass doesn't want to buy root explorer.

I'm afraid that without Root Explorer you can't change the /system/app folder permissions from R/O to R/W, therefore you can't paste anything in that folder.

File expert gives you that option too though.
if ur rooted but it wont paste or read and write in root explorer then ur su wasnt pushed properly in ur root process! When i rooted my kindle i deleted my old su and did the whole root process from scratch when i got the new root process. The whole thing went smooth and su showed up in apps when done but it wasnt totally rooted as i couldnt read or write in root explorer. Jcase told me that when the adb command for pushing the su wasnt done right thats what happens. he fixed it for me, great guy.
that was me though

[Q] How to replace files in filesystem

Hello,
i need some help.. the gps in my phone takes alot time to lock(?)...
someone created a gps.conf to replace the original file in system folder.. however i cannot replace the file neither edit it (i have root and tried it with ES Explorer)..
am i doing anything wrong? and how can i access the filesystem by usb? i tried booting the phone with power+vol up/down.. but there (pink screen) no drive was mounted..
thanks and sorry for possible english errors!
if you are using ES File Explorer, you need enable 'root' option and 'mount / /system as read/write' option to replace the gps.conf file
I have same problem.
I had rooted and flashed CW to get 2.2.1 -> Official 2.3 -> ICS
But on step 2. what needs to root and CW to get ICS it is impossible to get the system rooted and flashed again.
When going with + - on boot to magenta screen, Windows (Or Linux) does not recognize any drives to be mounted. Were there a external MicroSD card in slot or not.
I have now rooted device two different way and both say that device is rooted. Even the phone itself says that it is rooted. But no sudo is working so I can not even enable SE Manager root functions or to re-mount any partition as read-write mode because applications does not have root rights.

Unable to modify /system folder

I've looked all over and I'm unable to find a solution or even what's stopping me from modifying the /system folder in the root directory. I can remove files from that folder and all of it's subfolders but I'm unable to add any files into that directory. I am rooted on the T-mobile OnePlus 6t that has been converted to the international ROM. I know my root works cause I can perform other root functions. I also cannot modify the /system folder from TWRP either which is really strange to me. Also, when TWRP prompts me to install the app, it just reboots recovery since it's trying to install it as a system app which I can't do for this odd reason I have yet to find out. This issue all of a sudden showed up after an OTA update and re-rooting after. I have tried reinstalling TWRP, Magisk and Oxygen OS itself but the issue persists. I have also tried running "reboot disemmcwp" as root in a terminal window AND using adb but I guess that command no longer works. Any suggestions welcome as this is the last place I can find an answer to this issue.
Edit: found out I'm unable to uninstall system apps for some reason. So the issue isn't space related.

Known issue that in the Newer OxygenOS versions there is no free space in /system. I'd download Solid Explorer and check the Free Space in the Root Directory.

I've thought about that before. I use root explorer and can see there's more space than needed for the files I want to insert. Is there some buffer space needed in there and how much?

I was actually able to find the issue. Space was the issue. I guess there's a space buffer needed from what a file explorer says is left and what's actually left. I uninstalled a couple system apps I disable anyway and was able to insert files/apps into system again.
I made space easy I have the new OnePlus camera apk 125mb the old one is 67mb
