Is anyone else having an issue in which notification sounds stop working after about an hour after the Xoom was booted?
I have rebooted it several times and keep having the same issue. After about an hour, the notification sounds no longer play, but the notification light will still blink. The clock alarm notification sounds still work at all times though.
I have tried changing the notification sounds on the apps but it has no effect. When it happens, all app notification sounds stop working. The only unaffected app is the Alarm Clock sound.
Reason (Bug found):
Ok, so after a lot of testing. I found what causes this bug.
I have 2 gmail accounts that I use for mail. So I set up 2 GMail Widgets on the home screen. One for each account, obviously. The problem happens after both accounts have received mail and the mail is accessed through clicking on the mails in the widgets to bring up the full gmail client. It doesn't matter if the accounts have both received mail at the same time or hours apart.
I did find that as long as you never open gmail through the widgets, the notification sounds keep working. I sent myself mails about once an hour to both accounts for over 8 hours using gmail on a PC. During this time, I simply listened for the notification sound after each email was sent. Every one worked perfectly, until after I opened the a mail item in each of the gmail accounts on the Xoom using the widgets. Then, I no longer received the notification sounds.
Now during all the times of testing, the notification light always works. Regardless of the notification sound. Also, sound within applications were never affected. However, when the notification sounds stopped going off due to this gmail widget bug, none of my applications notification sounds worked anymore.
After the notification sound bug kicks in, the only way to remedy it is to shut down the tablet and reboot.
Reason found and put into post above.
I have the opposite happening to me. My light won't blink on Gmail notifications but the sound works just fine. I've done multiple reboots too. Good find on what may be causing the bug though.

I am currently experiencing this issue but I dont have two gmail account widgets and after a reboot I still do not get any sound notifications.
I do have a gmail and an email widget. Perhaps I will remove both and reboot.
I am running Team EOS 3 (latest nightly)
Thanks
I have noticed that for the stock messaging app, that it repeats the alerts over and over again. It seems to repeat the alert about 1 minute after a new email and then eventually settles down to about every 15 minutes. It will do this forever until you clear the notification. This is extremely annoying particularly at night.
I cannot find anywhere in the menus to disable repeat alerts which seems crazy. Am I missing something?
This does not happen to me
Have you installed any other messaging apps? Even if you have uninstalled it, I've had my notifications messed up. Also, do you have any widgets which display your messages?
Good luck.
Anyone else getting the whistling notification sound (the default sound) coming from the phone, but no actual notifications on it?
It keeps whistling at me for no reason.
Yesterday evening it was doing it like clockwork every 15mins, but sometimes after 10mins. By night time it was sometimes every 5mins, driving me mental!
I disabled Gmail, Email, disabled most of the funky control functions (like "Air xxxx" and "xxx motion") and it still does it.

I've had some phantom notifications too, but only the odd one. I was thinking it was something to do with my pebble but maybe it wasn't after all.

I have the same issue and its really irritating... Sound notification without any trace of what program is notifying. I have tried with apps that log the notifications , but it does not even show up there. My workaround, put standard notification to "quiet" and set specific other notification sounds for the apps you do want notification from. Could be done in the apps, or in for example light flow app.
Not had this problem yet, been using mine for about 2 days now, the only other apps that I have that would give me notifications is whatsapp and Facebook, maybe something you've installed?
£620 machine needs to work without workarounds.
Looks like I need to reset and install apps gradually.
Check Settings under "accessibility"
there is an option for:
Reminder of Notifications all 5, 10, 15 minutes
turning off
The new gmail does this, since it has tabs for social promotions and forums and.primary and whatnot,it will only generate a notification for the primary inbox but the other inboxes still make a.sound even without the notification. This might be what your experiencing, I get this.on.my HTC one
Possibly even a.combination.of this and the.notification reminder setting

This option is not available on Moto X (VZW). I'm seriously sick of these notifications.
chime sound with no notification.

Goto setting, device, accessibility, Turn off notification reminder.
In the last few days I have a problem with notifications. I get notifications when the screen is on. But as soon as I turn the screen off the alarm doesn't ring, I don't get notifications from Whatsapp or Facebook Messenger. Weirdly enough, I get my e-mails instantly no matter if the screen is on or off, same with receiving phone calls. What could be causing this? My phone is rooted with Cataclysm ROM. But I have the ROM for some time now and it worked normally.
I have the same thing here.
Did you use gmail for works ?
I am a stupid idiot. Since I have a custom ROM I enabled "Long press back to kill user app" in the Cataclysm settings. In time I started killing all apps like that upon exiting them. When you do this to your clock, facebook or whatsapp it kills them and they go to sleep. You can only wake them when you start them again and then the notifications come. Maybe it's the same for you?
When I get app notifications for things like text messages or emails, entering the app directly and opening the corresponding message does not dismiss the notifications from the notification center. Is this normal behavior? I thought Lollipop did, but I could be mistaken. I either have to swipe the notification off, or click it to open the app to dismiss it.
I noticed the same, found it irritating and I got way to many notifications from all sorts of stuff, App's and OS. Eventually I disabled all notifications. The phone already makes a sound so i don't need any visuals.
I am getting the same issue, any fix/ workaround to get rid of the notifications?
In my case this seems to depend on the application. Whatsapp does this annoying thing, while Gmail and Inbox do not. I think that most apps are not yet updated properly for Marshmallow support.
