Just realized this is part of the stock ROM. Does anyone know which app under which conditions can take remote control of the phone? I'm just a little shocked that this is here by default.

Can't be much different on my phone vs the XC (I'm buying an XC but guessing here)
Settings -> Apps -> ("..." menu) -> Show System -> (now see system apps with normal apps).
I'm wondering if COM is specifically "system default" or is it just hidden from view normally?
Wasn't able to find that package on my beloved's XC, meaning I cannot investigate for you.
Maybe this is variant specific.
Could you give the build and variant of your XC?
Just got the F5321 a couple days ago, got around to checking today.
The aforementioned package is also not installed on my device..

Hi, basically the problem is when I go to settings there is no option called "users". when I swipe down there is no user avatar. by the way android lollipop is the software version. I was watching a review on YouTube, there they had the option. but I don't. anyone knows why?
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201506/20150620020245043/GEN_SM-T550_Galaxy-TAB_A_ENG_UM_LL_OC5_R2_AC.pdf - Page 66 describes how to set up another User account. Maybe after that it will give you options in the Settings? Not sure, don't have access to one of these tabs to play with.
I checked it out. It says go to settings > users.
my problem is that option does not exist. but thanks anyway
Might be something the carrier or region where you got the tablet doesn't support. No idea why, but there are carriers here that asks the manufacturers to not enable some options, such as the Download Booster on Galaxy phones. Either that, or maybe another updated version of the software enables it. You might look into custom roms based off of less restricted software.
I purchased an unlocked version. No carriers
The other way to do it is from the quick settings pull down, touch the profile pic (might be the standard person-head icon)
when I pull it down there is no user avatar (profile pic) nothing at all
What's the Build Number of the software?
Lollipop 5.0.2. The manual says the option of USERS in under the device tab in settings. but I don't have it.
Here is a screenshot:
http://i57.tinypic.com/9pur5w.png
5.0.2 is the android version, not the Build Number of the software.
oh sorry. The Build Number is: LRX22G.P555XXU1AOD9
I'd try to update to the newest version available, just posted at the beginning of the month:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P555/
One of the ones that ends in OH2 that corresponds to the region you are in.
Thank you. I will try that and let you know what happens.
anyone found way to bring back multiuser option ? (im on H2)
I noticed that my NSTV is missing an option.
If you go to: SETTINGS > PREFERENCES > HOME SCREEN
Mine only has 1 option:
Customize Recommendations
But, I've seen some YoutTube videos where they have 2 options on this screen:
Customize Recommendations
Recency or specific sort order
My NSTV is on the latest update when I check it.
BUILD: LMY47D.35739_609.6420
Never make attention before on this, but looks like I have same as you, same build one option.

I would like to have the software version with 2 options. I don't like how it automatically resorts my apps based on most recently used. It takes longer to find what I need.
Would like some assistance with an ASUS ZenPad 8-inch tablet. The tablet is not rooted; is about a month old; and is updated to Android 7.0. Recently I get an "Internal storage running out" notice. I trace it to a folder called mtklog>audio_dump. All of the files are just audio logs of what my daughter watches on YouTube. These files take up to 8-9 GB of memory in the span of a day or two depending on how much she's watching. I can delete the files but they just fill back up and it's annoying. I do not recall doing anything to start these audio logs.
Can anyone advise on what to do in order to not record these audio logs? I can't seem to find an app that's recording the logs. I've attached a screenshot of the files hogging up all the storage.
My Zenpad is also affected by this issue after the update. Mine becomes unusable within an hour or two due to the size of the files generated. Why was this backdoor spy added/activated?
Exactly same problem with ZenPad10 with Android7 . Anyone has any work arounds?
Hi Everyone,
I did some digging and found a workaround.
This is how I fixed it:
Click 7 times on build number found in software update option in settings to enable developer options.
Go to Developers options under settings menu and change 'Logger Buffer sizes' to off.
Voila! The issue is fixed. Hope it helps!

Hello, I had the same problem with my ASUS. lg23's workaround fixed the issue. Thanks!
Edit: Nope I thought it worked, but it didn't. Still creating huge audio dump files in mtklog folder...
Same issue for me.... do not understand how to turn this off..... have you found a solution ?
Hey guys, see if this works:
Install Engineer Mode MTK shortcut
Turn on developer options
Start Engineer Mode. Go to Hardware Testing -> Audio -> Audio Logger
Uncheck any boxes that are checked
Profit (and maybe reboot)
All in all, I don't understand why some tablets have the logging enabled and other don't, if this is indeed the issue. I've never seen it enabled, even after a factory reset.
If you have the audio logging issue on either the Z380M or the Z300M, please post:
Your firmware SKU
Your region code given by the property ro.config.versatility (may need a terminal app to read that via getprop)
The firmware version you were on when you reset your tablet

Hey,
I'm still having the problem. It seems it works for a few days turning off the logging in developer settings, but only for few days, then it starts again (without a restart in the meantime). Also tried the Engineer Mode and all checkboxes are unchecked.
Just an idea: can we somehow set the mtklog folder as read only?

Huh, that's weird... That engineer mode setting is what's supposed to control it. Maybe try checking the boxes, save, then uncheck them. Just to refresh the internal settings.
I suppose you can do something like this in TWRP or root mode to remove write permissions from that folder:
chmod -w /sdcard/mtklog/audio_dumpNot sure if that will stick or have any side-effects.
Did you figure out how to fix this?? I am having the EXACT same problem. The solution works for me for about 2 weeks and then without notice, it will just start again! It is so frustrating and I can't find any other solution on the web.

Hey, so far the only thing worked for me:
1) install "Automate" app (or a similar one which can run user created tasks)
2) create task, that deletes the "mtklog" folder every 10 mins (yeah, playing youtube can fill up my memory in 10 mins)
hi, thanks for the advice.
On automaton, how to create this task, please?

Same issue MTKlogger
I also have the same issue with my Asus tablet. The MTKlogger fills up my internal storage continually. This was how it came out the box, horrible quality control from Asus. I am still searching for how to stop the logging.
Can these files be converted into usable MP3s?
Quite often I would like to save the audio on YouTube videos and used to have plug-ins and apps that could do that and haven't bothered to replace them with modern versions. So I am wondering if there is data in these files that can be converted into MP3 files. A search of this thread found no hits so I am posting this reply.
Thanks! You guys here have always been life savers for me!

P.S. Funny how what most people consider to be a problem caused by this bug is viewed as a potential opportunity for a music nut like myself.... I've been working around software bugs as a user for almost 35 years so I don't mind having to delete them whenever they build up. Rather than delete them I moved 5.85GB of them to an ext sd card just in case....
P.P.S. As a user here is a tip other Z380M owners might find useful. One of my big complaints is that you need to remove the back cover to access the ext sd card. A second complaint is that because of the physical design I find the tablet to be unusable without a cover or snap-on case.
What eventually solved both of those issues for me was to leave the hard plastic back cover off as the snap-on soft gel case sold for around $5 on-line offers enough protection, at least for me. While I usually prefer to use a folio case whenever transporting a tablet in my goto bag I made up a protective cover out of cardboard and secured with two thick rubber bands. It might look like crap but it sure beats having to worry about a cracked screen!

Clicking 7 times didn't do anything. Was this some kind of goose chase prank? How would anyone even know to click that 7 times to access developer options and is there another way to access developer options?
I have the same problem. Not sure why it dumps, perhaps when I use a bluetooth external speaker. Mine takes months to accumulate,. I go to Storage then to Internal shared storage, Other then explore. I delete the files from here, under the mktlog folder, autio dump. They are stored here and can't be deleted with other programs like ES File explorer. Hope it helps.
Hi there
I have an ASUS Z380 and my internal storage be being eaten up by mtklog>audio_dump.
So I enabled the developer mode and set 'Logger Buffer sizes' to off in the Developers options.
I also installed the "Engineer Mode MTK shortcut" and unchecked "Audio Logger" from Hardware Testing -> Audio -> Audio Logger.
The disk space was the same as before so I manually deleted the entire "mtklog" folder from file manager, then rebooted.
Looks like things are nice. I now have over 6GB free space rather than just a couple of hundred MB.

Hi,
Thanks all for making this problem searchable and caring
Z300M with recent storage troubles.
I've Chromecasted many YouTubes without seeing any storage blockages.
However, I only recently experimented with BLUETOOTH for podcasting to my Internet Radio.
Now, memory full thanks to junk in folder "audio_dump".
I'll list the filenames because they might provide evidence of criminality
I can delete them manually without fear as I did a few days ago.

One of my projects is trying to get Daydreams to work. So far I haven't been able to. I have spent months upon months researching this and have come to several conclusions, however none of them have helped me in activating this feature.
1. Amazon tablets, (Fire 7, HD 8 and 10) have a feature called 'Daydream'. Its a simple screensaver that displays when you are plugged into a PC or charging. There are colors that display or slideshows of on device photos.
2. This feature is stock Android. Nearly every device has the feature enabled, except Amazon tablets.
3. the feature exists, in full, and is blocked out by Amazon.
I have tried several ways to bring the feature out. One being, taking the BasicDreams APK, from another Android device running Lollipop 5.1.1. Basic Dreams should be the catalyst to start the program, but it does not. I have tried it from other android versions too. No matter what, the APK won't brinng out the screensaver.
I have used activity launcher, with no luck. I have used Tasker and a Secure Settings plugin to bring it out. Nope not there either. But tasker does allow me to select the type of daydream I want, it just never launches it.
I have determined there is at least one thing, one word that stops dreams. Its loacted in /system/framework/framework-res.apk. I use a simple app (APK Editor Pro) thhat decompiles the APK. I then tap on files, res, values, bools. In that list is a configuration, 'config_dreamsSupported' which is marked as 'false'. Everything else from then on is in place. I change false to true and the APK will not recompile without errors. It seems Amazon assigns their own daydreams to certain attributes, but then blocks you out from seeing them.
So it seems I am only having trouble compiling a proper APK for the system. If you want to see the settings for daydream, Activity Launcher > all activities > settings > Daydream. Framework: Framework-res.apk > res > values > bools.
I will not rest until I am able to get this working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I managed to hunt down a settings.apk of an android 5.1.1 ROM. So as daring as I am, I uninstalled the settings.apk and reinstalled it with the new one I found. The daydream settings menu opens, I can select dreams like Colors. But again, the screensaver doesn't start. I also managed to install a settings.apk from a 4.0 ROM. In doing that, I managed to bring up the actual stock accounts menu. I was able to select all items to sync, remove the misc amazon accounts too. Though there was no daydream settings, most all the other options worked. I might add I was doing
Code:
adb install -r -d com.package.name
after uninstalling the settings.apk and was able to then install any settings.apk from any SDK. If I can rewrite any one of these APKs, we could have stock settings.
However, I don't have screen shots as I had to reboot and I bricked. So I have to sideload back to stock. Though I'm sure the brick was caused by my massive debloating and not from the settings modding.
So I managed to get the say dream settings to launch, but no screensaver yet. However, I have a surprise for later. This will be epic

After weeks of trying, researching and bricking, I've finally found a way to successfully edit/modify the values of framework-res.apk and SUCCESSFULLY install the modded version. I have enabled the daydream screensaver, however sofar it will only accept the clock as the screensaver. Though I am sure colors won't display because of something I did wrong.
That having been said, you won't believe what else I've been able to activate now

I've also been trying to do this. I've been unsuccessful. Can I ask how you were able to get it to take?
And my curiosity wants to know what else you've unlocked.

Hi all, wondering if anyone has attempted messing with this unit - found nothing on Google/duckduckgo.
Had it 2ish years, been a glitchy little monster and apps like Hulu show incompatibility (though they are 'preloaded' and on the menu). So far as I can tell the system OS has never been updated and am curious what might be done to refresh it?

Unfortunately most android TV's don't get updates because the manufacturer doesn't take the time or resources to make an update and push it to the TV's.
As for glitches and apps I would try expanding it's memory using a flash drive and moving apps to it and letting the device use it as internal storage. And I'd use a PC or laptop and download the free program called "adb app control" and use the debloat option and clean some stuff off it. I'd also suggest getting a lighter launcher than the default one. There's a few options here -> Link but I like one called dashboard from the playstore. Also install a launcher manager and/or button mapper (both are free). Hopefully some or all of this helps make your tv a little snappier. I have a fairly new Hisense android tv and I did all this and it feels a lot better than stock.
