Hi, All -- I rooted my Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 using Chainfire's method, and it's now generating an error when it tries to install the OTA update to Android 4.3. I've unrooted the phone using SuperSU and have wiped it, but it still won't install the OTA.
Can anyone help?
Thanks, Alan

Ah. No, I haven't. I didn't realize that was necessary, and I'm searching now and not finding instructions on how to do that. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thank you!

If you rooted using CF-AutoRoot then it's likely your recovery was replaced. You need to flash the stock 4.2.2 recovery in all likelihood.
To be sure, what error does the screen show when you try to install the OTA. That will help us diagnose what isn't passing the OTA pre-check.
I have same issue here trying to update OTA update. Device rooted and bootloader unlocked.
When trying to install 4.3 OTA update, it rebooted into TWRP and start flashing but twrp mentioned some files not found and aborted, didn't even get a chance to look at the errors. After boot back up, it still show 4.2.2 and checking system update doesn't say new update found anymore.

Thanks so much for helping with this. The screen just says "error." Is there any way I can get more information? And if flashing stock 4.2.2 recovery is what I need to do, how would I do it?
Thank you!

No problem. Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43500355 and follow the steps, but try at first only doing the step that flashes recovery. Can you take a photo of your screen? What recovery are you using to flash the OTA?

I can get a screen shot of the error message, but it will take a little while. All it says is "Error!"

I updated my previous post. If you really want fool-proof working 4.3, you can follow the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388504 and just ODIN the full stock 4.2.2 and then try to apply the upgrade.

This. I was stuck on this for a while. You first need to make sure you have stock recovery. I also had to reflash a new system IMG but the recovery was a big problem.
OK, I followed the instructions to re-lock my bootloader, which seems to have been done successfully, but I'm still facing the same error (as seen in the attached photo). So I guess I need to flash the stock recovery. I'm game to try the Heimdall approach or the ODIN approach that have already been suggested, but I wonder if there's a simpler way to do this. Based on what I read here, it sounds like I could just download stock recovery from here, and then just type these commands to flash it:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Does that approach make sense? And sound safe? Or would I be better off going down the ODIN or Heimdall roads?
Thank you all for your help in navigating this!

This is basically what I followed to re-root after 4.3. Worked fine. You're just booting to CWM recovery temporarily to install the SuperSU update. Then it will revert back to stock recovery.

If the instructions are too technical for you and you can't figure out how to make it happen, following the tutorial, then I'm afraid I'll have a hard-time helping you unless I have the phone in my hand. Unfortunately, hacking phone is a process where we learn from our mistakes. I had a few times where I almost bricked my then new to me Samsung Galaxy SIII, but then I searched the Internet trying and trying again until I understood how do to thing to get it back to work.
Maybe, try to flash TWRP temporarily, you should at least give it a shot:
fastboot boot TWRP-lux-2.8.7-r4.img

I'm pretty sure it will work even if your bootloader is locked because it just install it temporarily. You execute the flashboot command, then you navigate the option on the phone until you see the option "Reboot recovery". It will reboot in TWRP recovery, then you could use the interface to install this recovery backup of Marshmallow. Instructions on how to install the recovery backup in TWRP, are here.

Hey Guys.
So, ever since i rooted my phone i never ran OTA (still using 5.1.1 i think) - last month it asked me to do OTA and afte postponing for a month or so, i ran it, and it just boots to Recovery many many times and fails.. after 20 or so restarts it says "failed to update"
so i decided not to update and forever postpone daily, but today i clicked "update" again, and now im stuck...
How would i go about updating the device? and can i do it WITHOUT losing anything on it?
also - can i do it directly from the recovery? (in case i need to download/upload a file to the phone?) because i don't see this bootloop ending any time soon.
Thank you!
This might break the bootloop. Boot into fastboot mode and enter:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Restore stock boot.img and stock recovery and you should be able to take the OTA. If you don't have backups there are firmware threads in the Development section.

It's really simple. If you flashed TWRP to your phone via the fastboot method, it's almost the same procedure to get it back. You just need to get the recovery images for the Honor 7x (since there's none available for the Mate SE. They're pretty much identical, though).

make sure they're both in the same folder and that you open up a cmd prompt in that folder (shift + right click, then "open command prompt here"

That's because there's no stock ROMs on the Huawei server for the BND-L24. You have to be a little bit patient for the release.
Sidenote: If you are willing to assist. Can you do myself and a few others on this forum a favour by kindly doing a full backup of your L24 and share for the benefit of us who bricked ours. Would greatly appreciate it

Hey guys, VERY new to the phone customization game. I gave rooting my ph-1 a shot and it crashed and burned. I tried flashing Magisk with no luck and now my WiFi will not turn on. It is stuck I the off position. This is incredibly frustrating. I tried restoring the phone and nothing seems to be working. Anyone out there able to help?

You have a firmware mismatch...
Because I don't think you can boot the device into the OS with the TWRP kernel anymore...
Which I'm pretty sure means you missed unlock critical...
And didn't read the output from the terminal window after running the flashall

Is there a way to bring this thing back to original bare bones stock? Are there tutorials around for that?

Just like you unlocked the bootloader, you now need unlock_critical.
Then go through the flash procedure.

1) boot to bootloader
2) fastboot flashing unlock
3) fastboot flashing unlock_critical
4) get the latest rom 9OPM1.180104.166 AFH from @invisiblek) and use flash all.
I had this same issue when flashing the wrong version boot image. Downloaded correct boot image, flashed and then flashed Magisk and fixed her right up.

Okay so this is the current situation:
I typed in:
1) fastboot flashing unlock - everything looked as it should.
2) fastboot flashing unlock_critical - the script ran and then said: FAILED (remote : device already : unlocked!)
3) I went forward with the flash-all-WIPE and the issue is still not corrected. I honestly don't know what else to do here.
I wholeheartedly appreciate all the help so far! Id like to figure this out!
GOT IT! WOOOO! Thanks guys!

Hi Silver1212, Please can you advice how did you fix this issue? I did the following as you did too:
1) flashboot flashing unlock
2) flashboot flashing unlock_critical
3) bash flashall.sh
It completed with no errors, but wifi still won't turn on
What did you have to do to fix this problem?

Do a reset of all your network settings. It fixed it for me some time back earlier this year
